who's in Vegas with the international phone? - HTC One S

From what I hear the 1900mhz band for T-Mobile in Vegas gets 4g speeds. Wondering if anyone out there has an international phone model and can tell us about the speeds. I made the mistake about buying the International model, because it's black. I love this phone even though I lack 4g speeds currently, but I'm curious at what's coming.
Thank You

The international version and the T-Mo branded device have the same radios. They read the same frequencies. There would be NO difference in performance. What you can do it change your build.prop for T-Mo specifics or install a T-Mo based ROM. Either way, there should be no differences with 4G.

No they don't. Currently only the T-Mobile one S supports 4g speeds.

I've run us radios and eu radios... It's the same firmware for the same hardware. Any difference in performance is ROM based

Here's the deal:
Before refarm:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G+/4G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100
After refarm:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800
3G+/4G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
All depends on where you are (location/tower)

Btw the refarm in Las Vegas is done, so if you are in Vegas (as i am) and are not seeing "4g" speeds yet, you likely never will. I now get hspa+ speeds in some areas where i used to get edge speeds.

I'm in NY. I'm asking because I wanted to know what kind of speeds people were getting. Hopefully by middle of next year I'll get them. If not sooner I hope.

International version should max out at a theoretical 21 Mb. So maybe speeds around 11 Mb for you.

[Q] Anyone using the Omnia 7 in the US on AT&T

Is anyone using the Samsung Omnia 7 on AT&T? I know it has support for AT&T's 1900 band for 3G but wanted to know how the experience is. I'm in Germany this week and was hoping to see if I can pick one up [not really happy with any of the AT&T phones].
Also, with updates possibly being controlled by carriers what's the workaround for buying an unlocked device from overseas and using it in the US on AT&T?
Thx!
can't tell you about omnia on at&t, but as far as i'm aware if your phone is unlocked from carrier, i don't see any reason/possibility for them to delay an update being rolled to your phone.
Cool, thx.
You should be able to get updates via the Zune software.
I'm sorry. this is my first post for this forum. Im not educated on on the compatibility of the EU phones on US carriers....
But is this really possible? I really like the SS Omnia the best so far.
an unlocked ominia will work perfectly fine on AT&T?
it will work perfectly.. except for the lack of 3G. The omnia lacks the all important 850 band at&t uses... and the 1700 band tmobile uses.
An explanation for "The omnia lacks the all important 850 band at&t uses" would be useful as AT&T also supports 3G on the 1900 band that the Omnia 7 supports. So seems like it should work...

Dependa on the tower. Lacking tje 850 band is a big deal on att.

Thanks for that response. I really wanted to see if I could sneak away with the omnia as the focus isn't really as good

One advantage with the Focus is it has an SD card slot to extend storage.
If you use you phone for music, movies and games it's a big +.

lacking 850 is not a problem since only mayor citied like new york, san fran, dallas etc. have 850 and the majority of normal city only have 1900. so 1900 is fine given you don't have access to hsdpa and hsupa, only regular 3g. now if only i can find an unlock omnia 7 under $650.

There are maps available showing coverage for each AT&T 3G frequency band. I wouldn't dismiss one band over the other. It all depends on what city you live in.
Check into the coverage areas before you waste money on a phone that won't give you 3G coverage in your area.
Very interesting as I googled AT&T 850 vs. 1900 MHz Coverage and pulled up a very interesting map [can't post a link due to my post count].
Coverage of the two bands is almost identical. I didn't know that speed is something to give up on the 1900 band though.
Good info. Yeah, I'm in Europe this week and no one is offering it unlocked!
here's the maps.

my question would be though, which is the band they are going to expand going forward???
so what's the difference between these bands? the phone does both so you would be "covered" so to speak

I'll be asking at an AT&T store, perhaps they can shed some light...
i personally am not sure if all phones handle the varying bands straight from the OEMs. HTC lists what bands their phone supports to each region, but in saying that it would be good to know what would happen if you got a omnia to the US (or in my case if i somehow managed to get an unlocked focus to australia ).

I don't think the phone supports at&t's 850mhz band.
according to this it does
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=pd...icially_confirmed_windows_phone_7_smartphones
and this
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i8700_omnia_7-3537.php
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS1900, UMTS2100
CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA
From what i've heard, ATT doesn't even really use the 850 spectrum much anymore...
Several people are selling this new on eBay for ~$600, but it does not support 3G. As per the one auction details:
* Works with AT&T and T-mobile EDGE but does not work with 3G networks in the USA
* Works with AT&T 1900Mhz 3G but not AT&T 850mhz 3G - Does not work with T-mobile 3G in the USA
I love the design of this phone too but is it worth paying all that money for a phone where you won't be able to take advantage of all its features? Edge is slow as Sh*t compared to 3g in my area. Just consider that if you really want this phone in the US.

No 3G or 4G connection

I have just 2G speed (checked by speedtest) with my Atrix 2!
As you know switcher 2G/3G is disabled on our phone!
I certainly have 3G on my account, I checked my SIM card with other phone and other SIM card with Atrix 2 and got just E icon (2G).
Any ideas???
did u check ur service provider does support the A2 3g frequency??? you need 850 / 1900 / 2100 either one of them to get 3g or 4g Speed.

I use USA T-Mobile.
So does it mean that AT&T Phones don't support 3G or 4G T-Mobile Internet even if unlocked?
From what I remember from the ATRIX forums is they use the same frequencies but with a AT&T phone on T-Mobile u will only have Edge or 2G speeds. No 3G or Hspa+

I'm going to return phone if this case .
If I root phone will I get 3G?
yup, as far as u know Tmobile USA only support 1700 but atrix 2 doesn't support that so you wont get 3g from it.
Also you wont get 3g even u root it, root doesn't do anything with the hardware.

It is said that tmobile supports 1700/2100 Mhz for 3G in wiki and Atrix 2 supports 2100 Mhz.
I think that's 2100 MHz is not the real 2100 band. It means 1700 download and 2100 upload. For more information, i think it is better to ask those peoples who are using tmobile usa.
I haven't run across any AT&T phone so far that works with T-mobile on anything but EDGE.
I think the galaxy s2 can. Someone has 3g ln there T-Mobile gs2. And they get better speeds lol

T-Mobile uses 1700Mhz/2100Mhz for UMTS/HSPA.
Like AT&T, they have 4 total bands for coverage, they do not use 1700 down and 2100 up. You pick either one. TMobile has a big disadvantage here, since with out a low frequency to carry hspa, they don't get any where close to the footprint per tower AT&T does.
Frankly TMobile is odd-man out in the US, and I am really surprised they have as many subscribers as they do.
All that said, my question is: How did you unlock an Atrix 2?

At&t UMTS Bands

Anyone have info on the t-mobile version's UMTS Bands?
I know during FCC testing I heard something about 850 / 1900 being included but I'm looking for confirmation.
I have the Black MAO model with just 850 it seems to work fine in NYC on At&t. I know with the Amaze the Bands werent advertised but 850 / 1900 was included in the tmobile Amaze anyway.
What kind of dl speed are you getting?

Yes, please, let us know. I'm also curious as I want the MAO version, but if it's not coming to T-Mobile, I'd like to know how it works in the U.S.
Im using the MAO version and ive seen 3 down 1-1.5 up in nyc but my battery life is only 10 - 12 hours. Im getting nothing like the 24 hour spans other people have mentioned. and i dont watch videos or make long calls.

[Q] AT&T LTE on Verizon model?

So I've acquired a Verizon M8 and looking at the possibility of getting it fully functional on AT&T LTE. Haven't found anything through search yet other than it doesn't work stock. Flashing new radio? AT&T Rom?

I used this same data in another thread, figured it might be useful here. Basically, you'd potentially restrict yourself a great deal by using a Verizon M8 on AT&T's network.
I think we need to know what’s theoretically possible with these phones first. Here is what the Verizon M8 has the ability to use:
3G (GSM): 850/900/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 14.4 Mbps
LTE: 700/AWS/1800/2600 MHz
Click to collapse
Source: M8 spec page
As it currently stands, these are the 3G and LTE frequencies for AT&T:
3G: 850/1900 MHz up to 21 Mbps
LTE: 700/AWS/1900/2300 MHz
Click to collapse
Sources:
List of LTE networks - Wikipedia
AT&T Mobility - Wikipedia
What this means is that the Verizon M8 would only be able to use AT&T's 3G up to 14.4 Mbps and not the full 21 Mbps (probably not a big deal). However, for LTE, it could only access 700 MHz and AWS, so you'd be out of luck if you're in an area that only has 1900 or 2300 MHz.
Again, this is all theoretical since it’s not totally easy to get a carrier-specific model to run LTE on another network, but someone had luck getting a Verizon model to run on T-Mobile’s network: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710720

[Q] May I get full 3G coverage in U.S. having the phone with such specs

I'd like to buy Meizu M1 Note having such frequency support:
LTE-FDD:B1/B3,TD-LTE:B38/B41,WCDMA: 900/1900/2100MHz,GSM:900/1800MHz/1900MHZ
I feel there is no LTE compatibility with US carriers, but at least may I get FULL 3G coverage of some carrier?
I counted on AT&T only, but this phone seems to lack 850 MHz support, that could mean that 3G coverage would be limited...?
Or maybe I'm wrong or missed other options??

It doesnt have to do with the specs of the phone about your 3G coverage. It depends upon your carrier which area it covers! If your phone has gsm and UMTS network support than yes it would have 3G no matter what the specs are!

Your coverage should be OK with either T-Mobile or AT&T. It does depend on the area though. AT&T typically has better area coverage, but T-Mobile has better 3G speeds where present.

A true "world phone" would suit you better. The problem with using a Chinese phone is that bands are often limited. Something like a Nexus 4 or 5, or Moto G with quad-band GSM and quad/penta-band UMTS would give you more coverage and versatility around the world.

I know that Sony or Samsung would serve me better in this case, because they support a bunch of frequencies for all possible cases and countries. But they are overpriced a lot. Besides, Sony now is not an audio smartphone at all.
It's just that my preference is not only frequency support, but a lot of other factors. I used to have Samsung a while ago, but since then I have switched to using other brands. And Meizu and BBK VIVO are my favorites for great sound (important for me) and decent price. Now when Meizu produced dual SIM phone as answer to my prayers, I've decided to buy it. And if 1900 is enough to get some 3G - it's fine with me
