How to create/modify snote templates? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Themes and Apps

The templates that come with snote have fields like date and time and other such objects not available within snote itself. The templates that are pre-packaged are nice but I would like to add others.
How do you create snote templates? Is there an app for this? Is there a how-to that details the extra features that you can put in a template?

Also the possibility of using your own pictures as background would be great

Just wondering if anyone has worked out how to change the included templates yet?

For the Templates Background to be change, the images in the "template_custom_bg_q1" folder inside the apk need to be changed. It contains all the backgrounds for SNote.
For complete templates, you need to create SNB files and place them in folder assets\templates.

Not sure if this is in the Galaxy Note (phone) version of S-Notes but in the Note 10.1 (8013) there is an option to import your own image as a background file. Not sure about how to get the input fields to work but you can import a new image.

How to create a S-Note Template from a PDF file
When I imported pdf files, I just started Snotes, the app, not a new note, and under the menu picked import. Choose the pdf file but if you get the box that asks what to use to open it, ignore it, click on the screen with your pdf, make sure the file is selected and choose done up at the top. you'll magically go back to the snote screen with your pdf document showing. In order to save it, you'll have to at least make a mark and then can erase it so the save option will be available. When it's the blank you'd like to save to use each time, you can name it and save it as it is. Just be careful that whenever you open it to start a new blank, you need to rename the changed document so it doesn't overwrite your blank form. If it's helpful, when you're ready to save the 'template' open the menu and choose set as shortcut. That will give you the fresh template on your home screen. I put several running notes on my home screen that way and a blank 'template' - an Snote the way I like it set up. Just be careful not to overwrite it as I've accidently done a few times. Now I have extra blank copies.

Am I wrong?

I'm just wondering if someone can elaborate on this a little bit and let us know how to fix this. I don't seem to have the productivity toolbar or haven't found where to select it. Specifically I can't do the handwriting recognition.
Thanks
The first icon enables or disables edit.
Next to this, in fact to the right of it, is a group of 4 icons.
The first is the drawing icon, next is the icon that you're looking for.
By double tapping it you can change between various features including formula, shape and text recognition.
Maybe this is common knowledge but I just discovered today that different templates have different functions embedded in them that apparently aren't available in other templates, e.g. long pressing on the contacts field in the meeting template allows you to bring up your contacts, you can also bring up a change date window in the date field etc.
In the diary you can change the weather icon types, in travel you can open maps app and import a clipping of an area and so on. It's very disappointing that you cannot seem to insert/use these fields in every note. The functions you want don't appear to be in a memo based note but are in others.

Agreed. This seems like quite an oversight on Samsung's part. You should be able to use all of the functionality regardless of the template. This took me a while to figure out until I watched their videos over again and picked up on this.

Same issue here. You have to pick a template to suit what you want to create. Its quite confusing. There also seems to be little documentation about what template has what tool.I can understand the floating note pad not having all tools but everything in the full snote app should have them. Maybe a tools toggle button to turn on and off what you want in the tool bar would make even more sense.
But i still enjoy the device

Hi. Pls let me know if you ever found out if the memo template has the productivity tools icon. I also can't find it.
productivity tools
To reach the handwriting to text, click on the productivity tools twice or hover over the button with your s pen and click once (looks like the shape button) a drop down menu will show up with the handwriting to text on the last options. Hopes this helps :fingers-crossed:
HI all
I have note 10.1 2014, and the snote does not have productivity tool icon in any template I have tried. Can someone help me?
The attached image is what I get in snote:
thanks
couldnot attach the image, here is the link instead: image

S note background designed for printing

I have a lot of notes but printing in yellow seems to be a bit wasteful. Can we customermise those background templates to our own? Moreover, is there anyway of changing the size as it seems to be much smaller than A4
I don't have my note with me to upload the pictures and it's in a thread here someplace but, you can scan a regular ruled piece of paper to use as a background. You have to import it and then select your template. Also you could go to your note and choose change background from dropping down menu and just set it to white.

Thanks and it works. Glad that I can change my template this way. is there a permanent solution? Selecting import everytime I have a new note seems troublesome. Is it possible to make it one of those pre-set template / make it default by changing some system files?

I believe there is a thread around here somewhere were there was talk about modifying the s-note.apk to include different backgrounds. You probably could try. I've thought about it but I was kind of waiting until the update came out so I wouldn't have to do it twice if it's even possible.

[Q] Putting a click-able link into an Snote

Just wondering if anyone has put a click-able link into an Snote. If so, how did you do it?
I was able to paste the link, but it is not clickable. Also, how can I drag and move a text box around?
Thanks.
Also, how can I turn off/down the sound of taking a screenshot...

So far, you're unable to include hyperlinks in with the note its self as it doesn't have the formatting. It may act as a hyperlink when exported as a PDF, though.
To drag/move the text boxes (this also applies for images and other items) you simply hold down on the object with your S-Pen, or finger if you have touch enabled and it will eventually let you edit it. This allows you to resize the object, also. This also brings up a list of things you can do with said object.
As for the screen shot sound - I have no idea. It's doing my head in, too.

Fast notepad, available on google play, it is tiny, 1-2 megabytes, it saves it's txt files in the fast notepad folder somewhere, but the file name are the date on which the file was made.
On another note, you could use es file explore, which is NOT light, but extremely useful, and has the option to create a new text file, just by pressing the "new+" button on the bottom bar and choosing file, it is like using a pc, except that "file" can only make txt files.
Press Thanks if I helped!!!
Download root browser, it comes with a great txt and XML editor

Watch Face XML editing.

Has anyone successfully edited the XML on a custom watch face and imported it back into GWD? Is it possible to borrow some options from the stock watch faces, like the stylize button? GWD is seriously lacking in a few places but it seems to be possible, with some tweaking, to add some customer features in. Hopefully something as simple as changing the color of some watch hands by double tapping.......
Anyone have any tips on editing the XML???

Yes, I have done this, but a very limited, specific task.
First I changed the xyz.gwd filename to be xyz.zip. Extracted the watchface.xml file. I took the watchface.xml into my xml editor (XML Marker ver 1.1) and discovered how the "swap background on tap" was coded. It involves using an image-set tag, and an action tag. I then used this to make a swap-on-tap Hour hand. Saved the updated xml code, and inserted this back into the xyz.zip. Then renamed this to xyz.gwd and put back into GearWatchDesigner\workspace\.
Open the design inside GWD. You can then look at the hour hand and see the button action to change image, although you cannot create this action within GWD, only an xlm editor. Did the usual build and Run on Device. Once the watchface was on my watch, I did have to reboot the watch for the functionality to work. But it DOES WORK. Tapping the hour hand did change the appearance of the hour hand (black/white swap).
This was a very simple test. But the basic idea of modifying the xml to do other things does work. HOWEVER, you need to know what other options are available. I have no idea if the xml codeset, that is understood by GWD when building the .tpk file, supports double-tap, stylize, or other complications. And if so, what the actual xml code would be for these functions.
Thanks for the information.
I had tried most of this but I failed to notice that hour hand would have the button action change. Guess I'll give it another go!

The details of the modified XML
for the watch hand to be swapped, in the group\part\ replace the <image> with a <image-set>
<image>basic_clock_hands_hr_shadow.png</image>becomes:
<image-set><image>basic_clock_hands_hr_shadow.png</image><image>action/image/basic_clock_hands_hr.png</image></image-set>
Add the new action to the hour hand part
<action on_event="tap" target_part_id="basic_clock_hands_hr_shadow" type="image-set-show-next"/>
and I have added a couple of watch screen shots. As I said, a very simple example.
Thanks again. I'll give this a try when I get home.

I really appreciate this example that you previously provided for me. Unfortunately, the newest update to GWD has broken this. I assume its because the XML schema has updated from 0.1 to 1.0. I cannot figure out how to write the new image set code to display the same thing with the updated watch face. Any help would be appreciated!! :fingers-crossed:
It Worked
Thanks to "cnguinn" for the instructions, followed these and it worked.
I had been scratching my head over this most of the morning, but what I hadn't done was rename the gwd file to a zip and save within the zip and then rename back to gwd.
I used the program "XmlPad3_02a" to edit the xml files.
adding the relevant lines to refer to the image file and changed the action set
I added the image file in the appropriate folders, ( res and debug/tpk)
and then just saved the whole folders ( rather than just the individual xml files) within the zip file.
Tested on the laptop and worked fine, exported up to the Gear S3 and perfect, new colour added to background on tap function.

Sorry if you could tell me more.
It’s impossible for me to change the color of the hands along the anchor (pictures).
Please post the entire code of the hml file.
Thank you very much
