I am suffering from a serious issue. My A2 keeps hotbooting when I don't have service. Im on ICS with Swiftytricks rom. My signal will randomly drop, and im in a great service area. Once that happens I switch to airplane mode to try and reset my radio. The only issue is that it wont return to signal from airplane mode. Then I have to reboot anyway. If it loses signal and I wait for it to come back on, it hotboots...multiple times until it seemingly fixes itself. Any suggestions? It sounds like a bad radio to me, but Ive searched high and low to no avail...thanks

I live in Manhattan, so my day consists of going underground for subway, and then back out at least 4 times per day. I have noticed several times that my radio never RE-grabs a signal when coming above ground it just sits with the bars and an X signifying no signal, in broad daylight...until i reboot the phone and it then promptly grabs signal. I have a buddy with a NS and he noticed this too...we also noticed it happens mostly when we are listening to something when emerging back above ground. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, or if it isjust cooincidence...however, has anyone else noticed their NS radio not grabbing a signal when back in range??? It is SO annoying to be walking around for 10-15min after coming above ground, to notice you have been cut off the whole time.
just instal the airplane mode on/off toggle
and hit it when you are back out on the surface
some times it's slow for the machine to grab signal
yes, i have noticed
like when i go into the basement, or server room, or other places with NO signal
and go back out to a place that I Know there is signal, yet it still in X mode
so, i just swap on/off airplane mode, and it works right away

I'm also a metro north commuter and the same thing happens to me randomly as well. I can go days without it occurring once, however sometimes it'll happen twice in the same day. Attempting to cycle Airplane Mode just locks up the device as well, so rebooting is the only option to restore network connectivity.
Noticed this as well when I'm in and out of subway stations. It hasn't been happening recently but sometimes playing around with the settings in the *#*#4636*#*# menu might help, like selecting GSM PRL or WCDMA preferred.
Anyway, I had the same problem with my Vibrant... never had the problem with my Nexus One or MyTouch 4G. Maybe HTC's hook onto networks better?

I normally loose signal completely when I am in the underground parking lot of my condo building. But as soon as I am outside it connects almost immediately.

I've got the exact same problem, not sure how to resolve it. Really wish they would push out an update and fix these annoying issues.
I've set my phone to WCDMA Only ( since and on boot up it doesnt connect to a network ) & WCDMA Perferred doesn't seem to want to stick.

i have the same problem
Same problem with my Nexus S. Toggling airplane mode don't help. I have to power off/on my Nexus S then I get the signal again.
Almost every rom I flash ends up having the same problem: I randomly lose signal. Not the crossed out icon, but rather just no bars. This happens while sitting still and there does not seem to be any pattern to it. Some roms it would happen overnight, others it happens during the day. Some roms I can toggle airplane mode on and off to fix it, while others I need to reboot. I always end up back on stock roms because the issue renders all custom roms unusable. Does anyone know what I can do?

Have you tried going stock and see if the issue arise?
Did you try to go 2G only and see if your signal holds?
It could be a bad 3G signal and your phone is dropping in/out to boost your signal. you could be between two towers and your phone jumps from one to another because of low signal. Could be a bad antenna if the problem persist under stock and 2G only. There are alot of things that can cause this issue and the phone itself can be the source. You have to factor out every possibility to narrow it down.

I'm switching to 2g only and we'll see if it holds. I'll know in a few hours.
I would be surprised if it has to do with towers, it isn't something that happens exclusively in low signal areas.
At work I have full HSUPA+ signal and it still happens, at home I barely get 3g signal and it happens there.
It happens at my girlfriend's house too and there is moderate to high HSUPA+ signal.
The problem DOES NOT persist with stock roms.
DOES NOT lose signal when data is disabled
******************UPDATE***************
even when locked to 2g only, it still loses signal.
Seems to be a hardware issue. I had the same problem on my last phone (a LG-VU) and I red-necked it and stuck a small piece of wire in the phone's antenna. It worked surprisingly and I had no problems with it for the remainer of my contract. But before going to those extremes, I would flash back to stock gingerbread, and try several different ROMs and Modems.

HAve you tried falshing different modems???????
You might have a bad sim card. My phone was doing that last summer, and then one day I couldn't get a signal at all. Rebooting would fix it but only momentarily. I hit up an AT&T store on my lunch the next day and got my sim card swapped and lo and behold, no more problems. LOL I remember I was trying to hide my Cognition boot screen from the tech as my phone was still under warrenty at the time.
Was having random signal drops and what seemed to be battery issues. Called T-Mobile for a replacement, but it seems all the issues disappeared. Should I swap it anyway or keep the original with the low h boot?
Mine was doing the same. Then i found out it keep going to Airplane mode turning off. So i had to restart or turn on and off airplane mode. Once i changed the rom on my phone it stopped.

If you know what made the issues go away, just keep the one you have.
I can't comment on your battery issues, but for me the cell signal is way more stable since radio 1.06s. Still not very strong, but not as jumpy as it was before.
If it's really a mystery, and you think your issues might suddenly come back, get the replacement, altho that's no guarantee either. Do you know which HBOOT a new one would come with?

Well boot is 1.09 on the one I'm using. Not sure what the replacement is yet because I don't have it in my hands yet. I'm running the EU radio and signal stopped dropping and battery got better. There are way to many factors that could have solved it
My phone is dropping cellular signal without warning. Cycling airplane mode or cellular network mode does not fix it. Only rebooting the phone has succeeded in getting signal back. This problem started last night. Since then, I have experienced it three times.
Further info:
I've had the phone for a little over a year. I did a factory reset when I installed L. I am running stock.
Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it?

Mine does it all the time on lollipop. I moved to a different state a few months back, where I was living in florida I didnt have the issue but when I moved across the country it started for me. I went to att after troubleshooting all I could and they informed me that they dont have a reliable lte network here...it exists but its weak and slow. So I set my cellular preference setting to 3g and since then it rarely disconnects or drops signal. When I go to an area that lte is good I switch it to lte and it holds fine till I get back home.
I've got an XT1045 running stock 4.4.4, on Simple Mobile.
My cellar has no reception, and when I come upstairs the phone will not regain signal for a very long time, unless I reboot or toggle airplane mode. Sometimes I get to work and realize that my phone still hasn't reconnected since the morning because I went to my cellar before leaving home.
Does anyone else have this issue and/or know a fix?
