[Q] Isuue with Wi-Fi - HTC Desire S

Hello. I have some problem with Wi-Fi after flashing [07 OCT 12]CM10. When I'm trying to search any Wi-Fi networks it just stuck on "Searching for WiFi networks..." and nothing happens. I tried to flash CM10 again with full wipes, but nothing changed. S-OFF, HBOOT 7.00.1002, Radio 20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.110, [07 OCT 12]CM10.
Sorry for bad English.

I have had the same issue, and, apparently, it is caused by some routers like d-link and Linksys. I have resolved by specifying a static IP address and DNS. I hope it will work for you too.

Thanks, I'll try to configure my router, but I can't set static IP adress. I don't know why, but this option is inactive.

Which ROM are you running?

Well, after another flash of CM10 with full wipe I found the solution - I just set region code and it worked for me. Thanks everyone for help.

Can't connect to internet even though connected to router

hi i am in need of a lot of help here. on sunday i decided to search something on the internet and i kept getting web page not available on every page i went on... the thing is according to my phone it was connected to my router and was displaying a wifi signal bars and everything.. all my other devices are working as usual but on my phone it will connect the internet will work for a minute or two then i wont be able to connect again till i reboot my phone.
any info would be appreciated.
Zachary
sounds more like a router problem to me than a phone problem, try connecting it to a diff network.does the same happen?
What router are you using? Sounds like a router issue to me.
First thing to try is always a router power cycle. They can occasionally go nuts. Unplug for 30 seconds.
Second thing to try, log onto your router, and see what wifi protocols are set to. If it's set to B/G/N combined, try setting to G/N. (assuming you are not using B anymore!) If not using B or N, set it to G.
Third thing to try, disable Wireless Multimedia Extensions (WMM). Not sure where it'll be in you're router.

Have another thing to try...
You might not picking up gateway information from the router. The solution could be to configure a static IP address instead of using DHCP.
To do this do the following:
Go into Settings, then ‘Wireless & networks’ then ‘Wi-Fi settings’ then press 'menu' and select 'advanced', scroll down and select the 'static ip' box.
In the ‘IP address’ box enter the same IP address which is shown higher up the same form.
In the ‘Gateway’ box you will need to put the IP address of your router. To find this out I opened a command prompt window on a PC on the same network and typed ipconfig. This will give you a Default gateway address which is what you need.
In the the ‘Network prefix length’ box put 24 (this assumes the subnet mask from ipconfig is 255.255.255.0)
Finally in the DNS 1 box put the same IP you put in the Gateway box.
Now click Save, disconnect and reconnect from the network and when you are reconnected you should have internet access.

Erm, guys - you jumped in at the deep end, surely a restart is the first thing that should be tried.
A) Restart router
B) If not fixed, restart phone
C) Do what the above say
i have already done a power cycle on my phone and router..
i tried to set up astatic ip but now whenever i try to connect it says disconnected after trying to obtain ip address
help please....excuse my ignorance if i missed anyhting
EDIT: managed to get DNS to work will test and see and update you

[Q] wifi problem

Wifi problem in atrix 2 is very well known . I know cwm9 dev is in progress. So is there a way to install to replace the stock module/drive with cwm9 driver.
Or any goddamm way to resolve this wifi problem.
I am really frustated . This is my second replacement and I don't feel like sending it back.
I have had my a2 for about 2 months and no wifi problems here. It connects quickly and stays connected.

Try changing your Wireless authentication and encryption to WPA2-PSK TKIP?

Not sure how "well known" this problem is. I have had my A2 since Nov 2011 and it has always connected to wifi without problem. Not disagreeing with you, just saying my experience with wifi is different.

just google for atrix 2 wifi problems ..
well i changed my wifi security to wpa2 .. and there has been some relief ..
the problem is still there .. but no frequent ..
I have solve the problem. What i did was just set the IP address for the Atrix 2 to static, instead of dynamic.
Hope this works for you guys.

This is what I did as well. Make sure and scroll down in the advanced wifi settings page to include the DNS and netmask numbers as well as gateway.

Gingerbread didn't always play nice with dhcp, hence the reason a static ip helps resolve the problem. Another solution you can try is to check the lease time for issued ip addresses. Some devices running gingerbread had issues with infinite leases, so the solution was to simply change the setting on your router to renew leases. As long as the lease isn't set to "forever" any other value will work. Just wanted to put that out there for those who have trouble with intermittent wifi.
i have made extensive RnD on my phone .. from lease times to assigning static ip's .. nothing works .. most people won't notice disconnection when using static ips because it does'nt disconnect so frequently . you will notice when you make a 20 min video call...
I am thinking of installing supercharged rom .. what do you guys think .. can it solve the problem .. or since it is another gingerbread the problem will persist. ?

Most likely the dns address will be the same as your default gateway. An easy way to check is open a cmd prompt on your pc and type "ipconfig" and you'll see the default gateway, dns server, and subnet mask for your connected adapter. Just use the same settings, but give your phone a unique ip address.
Example
Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
DNS Server - 192.168.1.1
IP Address - 192.168.1.101 < the last 3 octets need to be unique or else you'll have an ip conflict.

only changing the router to work with DHCP and the same on the sensation xe seems to solve this problem.
i just started the DHCP at xx.xx.xx.230 and all my other computers in the lan which use a static ip, continue to use their static definition

When you fill in the fields under advanced menu you must fill in ALL the fields in one stroke else your connection might not work!

HTC One X Stuck on "Obtaining IP address"

My phone keeps cycling obtaining IP address without ever getting one on my home network. It has previously worked fine on my home network for a little over a month now and the problem suddenly started yesterday. No other devices on my WiFi network has the problem. Phone and router were rebooted, problem continues.
Any ideas?

That used to happen to me all the time on my Kindle Fire, particularly after flashing a new rom. The fix was setting the date and time to automatic, but that may not apply here.

Depends on your network
DNS you get from your ISP, check router for it.
Prefix should be 24
IP whatever you set in the router ie 192.168.1.125
Gateway is whatever your router is ie 192.168.1.1
Google setting up static ip network it will help explain it and over at ddwrt they have pictures to help... very easy stuff. PM if you want/need help

You can try to turn off auto-DLNA..
It may causing device to configured itself under private ip range..
Same problem. Using stock rom. Tried static ip but not works.
This problem is a software problem? Or hardware?
This doesn't apply to my device now but on my previous HTC this would happen quite frequently I think it's more of a software bug then firmware it would seem that the drivers for the antenna are hit or miss

I had this issue and my phone wouldn't connect to any router "obtaining ip address" forever. Mind you my phone was 5days old, so took it right back to Rogers for a new exchange. My HOX is now perfect and connects to all wifi without issues.
Did you possibly enter the wrong spa password, then re enter it correctly and now you are having this problem?
If so, try this ... works on most Androids.
Click where it says obtaining IP address, the press "Forget"
Turn off Wifi.
Go Into Hone Settings > Power and disable Fast Boot.
Now power off the phone ...not restart.
Leave the phone off six minutes and not a moment less.
Then power up and try again.
Be careful to enter your wpa password correctly on the first try.
If still same problem try rebooting router.
Also consider installing SmartSync Disabler which can be found here on xda and at the google play store.
That app should solve the remaking wifi annoyance affecting these one x phones
the employer blocked the WIFI from employees (obtaining the ip address issue)
we cant access the WIFI in the hotel at where we work and although there are a password you put at the hotel's WIFI website but they did something lately to all of us and it is when any of the staff open the WIFI on his mobile it just keep showing obtaining IP address and no result so if you guys could help me in this and do i have to get a new phone or to try hiding my IP i tried a lot of apps but no way plz help

WIFI problem after ICS upgrade

HI. Today I updated my non-rooted HTC Desire S to ICS 4.0.4 (3.0.16-gce03037 Kernel) from official site... Everything is working fine, but I have problem using the WIFI connection.
I can enable/disable WiFi, I have no problems with OS freezing when I switch on or off wireless, etc. I configured it properly (I did not restore any settings from my backup software) and manually, and in status bar I can see that network is connected. It seems that everything is working fine but:
1. I cannot access the Internet from the phone
2. My access point does not list my HTC as connected device at all
I am desperate because this is the only thing that is not working after upgrade, and I use WiFi a lot
Thank you all for helping regarding this.

I don't know if it is the same issue i was experiencing some time ago, but seems that older Wi-Fi router have some problems with ics roms and later versions (jelly bean). I have resolved by changing my router but you could try specificy a static ip address for your phone and see if it works.

No, I don't think so, but maybe the AES encryption could be the problem. Try swiching to WPA or WPA2 and see if it works.

Well, no. You could still try to root your phone, install a Jelly Bean based Rom and specify a static IP. JB is slightly better with WiFi than ICS so I think this is your last call.
Otherwise you can still use the pass-through internet option is "Stock option" of the Rom settings, but this means that the phone must be plugged in the PC.

OK, now things are getting very weird!
First of all, I tried with "wifix" and bunch of other market "wifi fix apps", but with no success. After that I connected to my WiFi and try to ping my laptop which resides on the same AP and.... with SUCCESS! I looked at my AP statistics and I cannot still observe that my HTC is connected to the AP, but I could ping the laptop and default gateway (which is AP of course). I tried to do SSH to the HTC and that was successful too. It seems that my WIFI is working only locally, because when I try to ping public IP I get the destination unreachable error message. On the ifconfig's interface statistics I can see Rx and Tx counters increases on the wlan0 interface, but on the AP I still cannot see that my HTC is connected.
I looked up in to the routing table, and there was everything as should be. I am sure that there is no IP address conflict inside my network, I am sure that my HTC is authenticated and connected on the right wireless channel.
Guys, this issue is very weird, can somebody give some hint about it?
Please, see attachments there is much more info regarding this.

Ok, here is the update in attachment, it seems that I have problem on the layer 3 of the OSI model. I think that I can summarize the following:
1. Radio is working
2. All MAC layer things are also fine
3. Encryption is ok
4. IP packets transportation between the HTC and router is not working.
I am not good with linux, and my phone is not rooted. What can I do to troubleshoot this part of the networking now?
Hello to all again.
Believe or not I still have the same problem. HTC support is USELESS... I tried with factory reset, and I still got a problem. I am loosing patience now... Can somebody tell me how to revert back to previous OS, please? Where to download, and how to install it?
