If you removed or changed any "stock" apps and can't ota to ICS please read - Motorola Atrix 2

I see a lot of people in here asking for stock apps that they removed instead of froze, and have also seen people having issues with the OTA not working, due to trying to save root through an OTA, or having bootstrap/bootmenu installed.
Look guys this has been covered a billion times in here, since the 2.3.6 update was out in Jan.
Please use the fxz back to 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 if you were on 2.3.6, or if you are on leak 1 then use my script in the dev section, then do the ota with out installing ANY apps at all.
This is really the safest easiest way. If you are on leak 2, then that is the exact same as the OTA, so no need to apply the OTA, you will gain nothing and you already can not fxz back, so..

Oh didn't realize that leak 2 was the ota. Awesome, I'll stop spamming update checks now. Thanks Jim!

will FXZ back to 2.3.6 before applying the update.
phone currently says that "you are up to date"
I think you had mentioned in one of your posts that when we FXZ back to stock 2.3.6, do not login to google and then try OTA.
It will go through? wont get up to date message. Am I correct

Confirmed Future ICS Update!

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00046726&fm_seq=49755
So finally the blaze has been confirmed along with others to get ICS which I knew would and am glad I haven't messed around with root or anything else so the update works and makes this phone even better!
Rooting shouldn't affect the process of updating or the update itself.
Anyway, I'm glad to see that this is happening.

I was under the impression if you changed the kernel you wouldn't receive OTA updates. The process is reversible, but just saying.
That being said, I'll continue my streak, and bet you $10 we don't see ICS from Samsung within the next 3 months.
Oh yeah, I forgot..... this may not be the case anymore, but I remember back in the 2.1-2.2 days that people were always looking for someone that had a phone on 2.1 that received the OTA update to 2.2 to not install it until they had a log thingamajiggie running, as it helped people do their magic with the official rom.
I'm no wizard but if this is desirable to anyone who wants to work on roms for this phone whenever they decide to push ICS to us, lemme know, and lemme know how to do it.
I had to unroot and restore everything to get the ota 2.2 update to work back when I had my Motorola...

[Q] dont like ics, want gingerbread back

NOOB HERE
i'm from india and using mb865.
i updated my phone from gingerbread to ics a week back. But i'm hating it(interface) and want to go back to gingerbread as i loved it then..
but before updating moto clearly stated that we CANNOT go back to gingerbread...please help i want my earler phone back!
You can't go back to gingerbread from the official OTA to ICS. Sorry mate. You're stuck.

Yes you can
You can indeed revert from ics to gingerbread. I have done it and it works.
I hated ics mainly because of the rotten battery back up...On gingerbread i used to get about 3hrs for every 10% drop in battery..but in ics it used to drop by 10% every 1.5 hours. Hated that.. Plus there are hardly any benefits of ics on the atrix if you installed go launcher and other apps..plus if you can debloat it using titanium, it becomes even smoother than ics,.
This is how you do it
Install RSD lite 5.6 (search in google)
Download the motorola drivers and instal it
Switch off your phone
switch your phone into the bootloader mode by pressing both the volume buttons and then the power button....then choose fastboot ap
open RSD lite and browse to the original untouched GB rom
You can download the rom from hxxp://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php download the asian retail searet 28.37
plug in the phone through usb.. wait till all the drivers are loaded
then click start>>uncompress and start flashing
the flashing will take about 20 min and the atrix screen will switch on and off repeatedly...
DONT disconnect the phone until it says "finished" in the RSD lite
and you are back in GB
Mae sure that you battery is atleast 50% charged before starting and that the computer doesnt go into sleep during the flash
I have done this about 2 times without any issues but i will not be responsible for any bricks
happy flashing
Do Not Attempt Without Further Evidence!

The real question here is whether you (spunxhoe) were on a leaked version of ICS or the official OTA release of ICS. We're all aware -or should be- that the only known way to FXZ back to GB is if the user is on a leaked version of ICS, not the official. If you were, in fact, on the official OTA ICS and flashed back to GB, please provide more tangible proof other than 'yeah, you can -I've done it twice'. If you have had success coming from OFFICIAL OTA ICS to GB, then you need to give us some legitimate evidence. As it stands now, we all have been advising users NOT to flash back to GB if on any official releases of ICS due to the certainty of soft bricking...
Get your facts right
Right...and whats the proof you require?
These are all the things that have done...stock GB rom to ICS leak..then back to stock GB..then upgraded OTA ICS..and then back to stock GB rom..The GB bootloader has a A.68 version.. the ICS bootloader was A.72 or 73..cant remember..I HAVE FLASHED back to GB from OTA ICS using the method described... Apparently you have got your facts mixed up...THE AT&T ICS ROM leaks have caused bricks..not the SEARET ones.. MOD EDIT.... NO PROFANITY.
---------- Post added at 10:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 PM ----------
Oh yeah.. i have had three soft bricks..thats only cos i tried the clockwork recovery mod specifically modified for atrix 2.. it did work at times but it also caused the soft bricks and had to reflash the roms..
I wonder what's the "in principle" difference between a leak and OTA. I flashed the ICS cheesecake leak which turned out to be the SAME as the OTA that was pushed out later.

I HAVE FLASHED BACK FROM THE OFFICIAL OTA ICS TO GB STOCK ON MB865 SEARET USING RSD LITE..
But i cant stress it enough...the AT& T leaks have got bricks..but not the searet....take my word for it..as far as you can throw me atleast....
and if proof is required lemme know..i will give em as far as i can make out there is no way of proving a version 18 rom to be a leak or OTA..

Fair enough. And, for the record, if you thought I was in any way slighting your statements from your own experience regarding the above conversation(s), then I apologize. Perhaps, it might bode well for you, and others on SEARET ICS for you to post a thread with some definite instructions/screenshots/etc. with the abilities you (on SEARET/MEARET) have to flash back to GB. You would find yourself much more well received in doing something such as that...

In fact, there is. Somebody had posted the OTA file on mediashare. The MD5 checksum was the same as the version 18 leak. So the OTA and leak are identical...byte for byte.
Anyway, whether they are identical is not important. If someone is speaking of difference between a leak and OTA, there must be some difference between them other than the title! No?
I think the point would be that if this does not work the phone is a paper weight..... So working or not someone who joined this week and has a post count under 10 makes proof that much more needed..... In the past there have been quite a few people that have made claims that fell short and bricked quite a few phones and like that they were gone..... In the best intrust of the OP wait for a dev or other with the proof of concept before you attempt anything..... If you value your device ICS is better than a brick!!!!!

I would think the risk involved of FXZ'ing back to GB from an official ICS is just not worth it, since I think INDIA Moto's have NO WARRANTY.
However, what is the probability of rooting, installing bootmenu manager, and from there, doing a restore, then flashing a GB rom without the stock recovery?
I have not read anything on this as I think most people want ICS and I have not seen anyone try. I think this could be a way back to GB, but I am looking for someone who has tried this, I AM NOT ASKING SOMEONE TO RISK A BRICK TO FIND OUT, just wondering has anyone already tried it and what happened???
Another possibility: There are launchers themed for ICS for GB, are there any GB themed launchers for ICS for the nostalgic fellows like this guy??
But, I guess if he is looking for webtop, then like me he is waiting for JIM's ICS webtop project.

Hi,
Indian Moto A2's come with 1 year warranty.
Please see the link in my post above. People have flashed back from ICS to GB and lived to tell the tale.
Will get you the screen grabs for the flash back
guess no one has faith in humanity afterall...gimme some time and i will get the required screen grabs...it aint easy to update the OTA ICS and then reflash GB...and this is when i had completely customised and debloated my GB rom the way i wanted..

Confused about OTA update

Ok, so I got a message for the OTA update today (ver 67.21.125.en.US). Now, I see all these threads that say don't apply the OTA because you can't flash back. But they seem to be talking about if you are already IN ICS. I am running a custom mod version of the supercharged 2.3.6 rom.
Is this the official ICS update? Should I flash all the way back to stock and then just do the OTA's? Will that process make it so I will not be able to FXZ back?
Or Should I follow the instructions in this thread? --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968
The only question I have about the above linked thread is I am not sure if that info is out of date regarding this update I just saw today. If the OTA that came up today is nothing new (and it just took forever for me to see it for whatever reason) and everything in that thread still applies, then I will probably go that route. However if this is a new/different update, then I dont know what to do.

All of your questions have been answered numerous times in numerous threads over the past week.
I suggest to read - A LOT - then, make the choice whether to go on the official ICS (your phone must be in stock 2.3.6 GB condition), or non-official leak#1 which you linked (which yes, we are still able to downgrade with leak#1 ONLY).
If you are going to go on custom roms in the end, then it really doesn't matter... and in my opinion, I'd prefer to have the option to FXZ if I'm in trouble - so I'm personally sticking with leak#1 as a base firmware - at least until we get an FXZ package for the official at&t 4.0.4 ICS.
Ok, I suppose I should have phrased it better, but my main question/concern was whether I was seeing a newer update than what all those threads were talking about. It seems as though I am not.

Restore back up from AT&T 4.0.4 1st leak on SCV7 to official OTA 4.0.4 also on SCV7?

Restore back up from AT&T 4.0.4 1st leak on SCV7 to official OTA 4.0.4 also on SCV7?
I haven't made the mistake just yet, but inevitably, I am sure I will need to FXZ at some point. When I do, would it be OK to restore my current backup (AT&T 1st leak on SCV7) on the official OTA on the same ROM, or would that cause any problems? I have read that I wouldn't be able to restore app DATA from one ROM to another, but haven't found anything that said either way based on the firmware version. Thank you in advance.
I didn't have anything clever to say here.

[Q] ICS (via OTA) got downloaded

Atrix2 ATT, on stock GB 2.3.6
I accidentally hit download on the prompt for ICA OTA. Couldn't stop the darn download so it's now downloaded and keeps prompting me everyday to install it.
How do I get rid of it? I don't want it. Rather hope & wait on the JB port that Jim is working on
Thx
The downloaded file is in /cache, I think you can delete it
But the ICS is awesome, there're no reasons to stay on GB
Anyway, you must be on ICS to flash JB

You'll need to be rooted and have a root explorer/browser app installed to delete it. The directory is simply /cache and yes it's safe to remove it. If it was me I'd just let it install since jimbridgman has already said that porting the jb leak was not likely to happen and he isn't working on it anymore. See here:

You can install NUMA on leak1 or leak2(which is the same as the ota). No matter what, you have to be on ICS in order to install an ICS ROM. Personally, I am on the ota and running NUMA, so I can say from personal experience that it works. NUMA is a very good choice, by the way.

Thx for helping a noob :good:. But I have more questions:
1. So you have an US AT&T atrix 2 that you OTA's to ICS? And then put on NUMA? I see a gamma version of Numa out, what are the bugs that you know of? I recall seeing that in ICS, icons (like the dialer button etc) were made smaller. Is it the same in NUMA?
2. If I OTA to ICS and put Numa, then want to revert back to the ICA OTA, is that possible?
3. Different question: If a JB based rom comes out in the future for us, will being on ICS OTA be a disadvantage. I suppose NO. I recall reading many times esp in Jim's posts, that many things require being on ICS leak1 and not to OTA. Is that constraint gone now?

You have a lot of reading to do.lol Bugs in NUMA will be listed in the change log in the op. Personally, I haven't had any issues with it, but read the entire thread to see what others are reporting.
To revert to ICS ota you'll need the fxz, aka firmware, posted by Pzyduck over in the development section. For a tutorial on how to do that look in the general section, Alteredlikeness has a great one called something like "fxz what?" or something similar.
There is Paranoid Android, CM10, CM10.1, and Magic Mod, all of which are jb ROMs that can be flashed on ICS.
Staying on leak1 was most important before Pzyduck posted the ICS fxz. Now the only reason that I know of to stay on leak1 is if you intend to go back to gb. I don't know of any reason to go back to gb unless you just want the better version of webtop.
Now do yourself a huge favor and read, read, read, read before doing anything else. And just when you think you understand, read it all again.
Good luck to ya.

I will answer number 3 for you.
It is safe now to upgrade to the ICS OTA, since we do have an official AT&T ICS FXZ version that can be flashed through RSD lite. Now if you are a fan of webtop or GB, and want the ability to go back to GB, then do not update to the OTA, or leak 2. You can go back to GB from ICS leak one ONLY, I have a script in the dev section for just that. There is NO difference between leak 1, leak 2, or the "official" OTA, so you can pick what you want to install based on the notes I have given here.
Yes you can load any ICS or JB ROM once you are on ICS, just not any of the GB ROMs.
Sorry but I do not have much knowledge on NUMA, since I was mostly working on CM, and the like, or I would have tried to answer your other questions.
Thx!!
yes. I located the thread with the ICS FZX here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961310&page=11. Alright baby steps. I am ready to finally accept the OTA to ICS. Its already downloaded.
---I am stock GB (only thing I have done is uninstalled some ATT bloatware apps like ATT navigator etc...).
---I assume the ICS OTA will be successful? If something happens, what should I do?

The OTA will most likely fail since you've removed some system apps. You'll probably have to factory reset, then push the OTA. If all else fails, you can flash the FXZ that you downloaded using RSDlite, same effect, but it isn't an upgrade like an OTA is, it's just raw flashing. If the OTA fails, no worries, you'll be able to boot back up, but you'll have to explore the options I just stated.

Sort of, but not exactly. The only real difference between leak 1 and leak 2 is the bootloader version that gets installed, once leak 2 is installed the bootloader will not allow you to go back to GB no matter what. As far as the firmware/ROM itself, all three do not have really any noticeable differences, so you can use any JB or ICS ROM on top of any of them with out issue. I think that there might have also been a small kernel update in leak 2 and the OTA as well, but it was a very small one, that does not effect much for the end user.
On thing we have noticed with leaks and OTA's since the 2.3.6 update, is that motorola will not put a leak on their servers until it is very stable and very close to the final OTA.
Also note that ONLY AT&T phones can use the leaks that we are speaking of. There were different ICS leaks for the international and the TW/HK versions of the atrix2 as well, so they will have different posts out there, if you need those, and you can not flash any other firmware if you are on the AT&T branded phone, and if you are on an international, or the TW/HK phone I would NOT flash the AT&T version (it might lock you to that firmware). The AT&T phone will hard brick if you install the wrong firmware, so be very careful.
Here is the link for the official FXZ and also where all the FXZ files are kept, for future reference:
All FXZ files for the atrix2:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
The one for ICS and AT&T:

Now the FXZ method is the best and easiest way to do this, the leak method that I have is a real PIA, so I am laying them both out here for you, so you have all the cards in the deck.
Again the ONLY reason to stay on GB is the ubuntu webtop, and while I still had my A2, I kept it on leak 1 without any issues, and would go back to GB weekly to try and get the ubuntu webtop ported to ICS, but without much luck. so.... there it is all laid out for you.
Let us know what you decide to do and how it goes, then also how you like ICS, I think it runs awesome on the A2, much better than GB.
Done. ATT OTA to ICS was successful. My my setting and apps were retained.
Now: since I am test engineer by profession, on to finding issues.
1. I read somewhere that ICS was to bump the cpu to 1.2ghz? I downloaded android system info and it said current frequency is 1ghz :crying:
2. Next I plan to root. I assume rooting is needed (for trying custom roms later on?) and has no negative aspects. I should follow this thread to root right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787796

Thanks for reporting back. I'm glad you got it. The root method I use is the one posted by jimbridgman here:

Other than the things I have screwed up by my own mistakes, I haven't noticed anything but positive effects by rooting. No biggie as long as you have an fxz and/or nandroid backups. You will need to be rooted to install custom ROMs, and you'll need a custom recovery as well. Some ROMs are specific to certain custom recoveries, just be sure to follow the install instructions for each ROM to a T and you can't go wrong. As far as CPU speed goes, it's a really weird thing that seems to vary for some reason I don't quite understand so I can't elaborate on that too much. (Maybe someone with more knowledge on that can fill in the blanks for us both.) But daavis has some over clock zips posted in the development section. I haven't used them since I was one of the lucky ones that got 1.2 GHz out of the box, but most people seem to have had good luck with them.
