That is a nice option for anyone who wants to gain root and stay on stock JellyBean.
Good job.
I think it's TWRP recovery not twerp, lol!
Nice work.

In what way is this zip different from the zip available for download on http://androidsu.com/superuser/? I used that zip to root my stock JB install, and it works fine.
Can you use this to replace another superuser app?

Hi...
Sorry for my dumb question...
As I read before, I think to root the device we need to UNLOCK the Bootloader first and then we can root it and flash CWM and use Custom roms and etc...
My device has JB on it and I did not root it before....
Actually it is new but updated to JB.
Does this method you offered root my device without unlocking the bootloader or not?
If no, please give me the links to know what should I do.
Please accept my appreciations in advance.

The superuser app that I have now has the binary installed to /xbin so I altered to run from that folder. I got
Code:
-rwxr-sr-x root root 91980
I altered your zip file to remove the su binary from there as well, fyi. Once I flash, everything appears to work (binary flashed to /bin and app flashed to /system/app). I can open the app and do everything, except when I click check for new su binary, nothing happens. It's like the screen is dead. I have a nandroid that I've been reverting back to, but can't seem to nail down the issue. I appreciate the help so far.
EDIT:
With the flashed su package I get
Code:
-rwsr-sr-x root root 79504
It worked
Thanks. It worked.
How are we supposed to reboot to recovery? My transformer is unlocked and I have installed twr but when I try to go into recovery I get the android with the "!" in the middle. I also tried to boot to recovery through goo manager and it says that it requires root permissions..... I'm confused how am I supposed to flash this if I can't even get into recovery ?

That is the stock recovery, so you actually haven't installed TWRP. If you use Goo Manager, you need to be rooted - otherwise you must use fastboot from a PC to install the recovery.

[TWRP&CWM/Install JB OTA from custom recovery] Jelly Bean OTA for Unlocked Devices
Hi guys,as you may know,if you unlocked your bootloader you won't be able to receive OTA's anymore so you have to wait for Asus to upload the firmware on their site.Or even better you can use your custom recovery to flash a modified OTA pack wich will update your device just fine.
Warning:
** I'm NOT responsible for any damage caused to your device by using these files so use them on your OWN risk.
** This update will also flash the Jelly Bean bootloader so if you are still on .26 bootloader and you didn't used the NvFlash tool yet, well,it's time to do it because after installing this update there's NO WAY to go back, yet.
** You Custom Recovery will be replaced by the Stock Recovery (You can install this CWM Recovery after installing JB)
** I only tested with TWRP but it should work with CWM recovery too
** Verify your MD5 checsum after download
Requirements
* Your device must be unlocked and rooted
* You need to be on STOCK 9.4.5.30 ROM with no modifications to system files (build.prop, etc) (no need to do the Factory Reset)
* Use OTA RootKeeper before installing this update if you want to keep ROOT
Installation
1) Download the file for your specific SKU
2) Move the downloaded file on your internal or external storage
3) Boot your device in Recovery
4) Install the update / That's it,wait for the install proccess to finish
NOTE: If you are getting errors and you are using CWM recovery try renaming the file (i.e TF700T WW_10.4.4.16-20120927 OTA.zip - - > TF700T_ WW_10.4.4.16-20120927.zip)
Download Links
WW_SKU --- > TF700T WW_10.4.4.16-20120927 OTA.zip ----- MD5 checksum: 9d4e1e91a08254256357eb2870d2df7d

Because the update will fail to install if some system files are missing or beeing modified. Please don't try this on custom firmware, but if you do,just don't complain about it in case is failing or even worse.

Asus OTA updates aren't a complete replacement. Instead the update performs a patch to your existing files. A non-stock or non .30 version may cause a failure during the update process.
Truthfully if you're running an unlocked device you should wait for a ROM developer to make a new ROM and use that to update instead of trying to flash the Asus official update. It should only be 24 to 72 hours and a ROM won't do things like remove root or replace your custom recovery with the stock recovery.
Works 100% with CWM recovery!
Thanks a lot My friend!
I can also confirm, this method works! I`m on jelly bean now

Quoted for fiction
It's fine to flash if you are on stock .30. Replacing the recovery costs about 30 seconds, and replacing root on an unlocked device takes about 30 seconds as well. Then you can evaluate an Asus jb yourself before seeing a custom jb.

I have Jelly Bean 10.4.2.17 installed with 4.1.1 Android~ Im trying to root the device and tried by: Unlocking the bootloader and flashing onto the tablet cwm. From there, I Tried installing the root-signed.zip file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668173~ After installing and trying to reboot, I get a message from cwk saying "you may lose root if you restart" something along those lines. After reboot, I try using root checker but no pop up comes up from superuser. Anybody have any ideas on rooting this device?

Thanks for the guide. I have a tf300t on version 10.4.2.17. It has never been rooted/unlocked. I'm too scared to try the guide (which is very clear), since I cannot find any references of anybody with a clean slate 10.4.2.17 who installed TWRP. Can somebody please confirm that they have executed this successfully?

The guide assumes you are unlocked, otherwise everything is spot on.
Copy and save the terminal commands - good to have in your bag of tricks once you are rooted.
I'm pretty confused at the moment. I just unlocked my device using the ASUS app but now I can't find a thread on what to do now so I can start flashing roms. This is what I've gathered so far and correct me if I'm wrong on any of this. So I flash CWM using adb then flash su through recovery then I'm ready to go with stock root without a wipe right?
I'm on version 10.4.4.20 if that helps at all.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
The next step after unlocking is to install a custom recovery. If you are already rooted, you can use some app and do it on the device (Goo Manager or ROM Manager?). In any case, you can use fastboot from a PC to flash a blob.
Flashing su is only useful if you don't plan to flash another ROM afterwards.

Nope not already rooted. I'm 100% stock minus the unlocked bootloader. No blobs. I'm really just looking for root permissions on this device, flashing custom roms will come but probably not until Google fixes a few issues with 4.2. I guess what I'm really trying to ask is at this point, do I just fastboot flash the CWM recovery.img, then obtain root privileges by flashing superuser? If it's really that simple this is the easiest device I've ever rooted.

Yes, to root your current stock ROM, that's it.
Ah, almost - the recovery must be in NVidia blob format for the TF700's fastboot implementation. The bootloader only accepts signed blobs for flashing, but after unlocking does not require the signature to match, or even to be actually present.

Do not follow that guide blindly - at least, use a current version of TWRP. Version 2.2 is not compatible with the JB bootloader and may brick your device if you select "wipe data" from the bootloader menu.

You can
gain root flashing SuperSU - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
To root can't you just unlock bootloader.
Download superSU to /storage
http://download.chainfire.eu/372/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip
Then download CWM and boot recovery (don't even need to flash it) using the following (apologies if syntax not 100%, I'm not at my laptop to check)
fastboot boot recovery cwmrecovery.img
Then just flash superSU via CWM.
You don't really need any special rooting 'tool'. Its just basic stuff.

Hi guys, here I'm sharing with all of you my new creation, I called it Unlock me! :good:
Code:
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed.
This is a flashable zip (yes, you need a custom recovery) that allows you to unlock your phone. Use it only if you don't remember your password or if you would try this zip. I've tested Unlock me! with these kind of password: PIN, password, face unlock and pattern, with these it works fine .
You don't need root or busybox and other stuff, only a custom recovery.
Please leave a feedback.
PC version:
If you have not a custom recovery you can use this tool. Be sure that your phone is rooted and has the usb debugging turned on before using this tool.

You don't need root for a custom recovery. You need an unlocked bootloader to be able to load the recovery. You can have a custom recovery without root. Many roms are not adding root as Google is locking android down

Yes. Many roms are even starting to come without root built in. As Google does more to lock things down root will become harder and harder and may soon only be on nexus devices.
