[Q] Is there someone working on a root method? - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, as the title states, is there anyone working on root method for the latest OTA (9/4/12)? I foolishly updated, as always hoping they'd fix the reloading issue, and now I'm stuck on it because I can't seem to find a working root method for this update. If anyone needs a test phone, then I'm up for it, I gotta get this thing working properly already!!
Thanks,
John

EDIT: I found a way to downgrade it and so I wrote up a thread about it. You can find it HERE

You may want to watch here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1558532 I'm not sure what is happening but indirect is awesome.

I've been looking for one for the past 3 weeks and it doesn't seem like there is one...As to whether anyone is working on one, its hard to tell :\
But yeah, like Chad the Pathfinder said, you should keep checking that thread.

Yeah, I sent him a PM, actually two, but no response. Was offering him to test whatever he needed tested, perhaps he's still working on something to test.

I know what you mean, I've also gone through a bunch of different websites, and nothing there, perhaps another phone with a similar OS has a solution that could be worked off of. Heck, I've fiddled around with a few different methods, but the primary issue is not being rooted. I managed to get a part of the clockwork recovery, but even though I had a ROM in the sdcard root, my phone just rebooted, and no change was made, may try a different ROM for the heck of it.

Takes time if it's going to happen. He's a fairly busy person .

Haha yeah, someone spoken of so highly must be extremely busy as a result

He doesn't ignore the " newbs " . Remember we are all newbs at some point or another. He just has a busy schedule. Plus keep in mind he does not own a Shift.

I think I will, even though I just used an external application to do the reboots for me, where tacroot couldn't get the permissions.
It came as a surprise, as most of the stuff I tried failed me.

Hmm maybe this will inspire future devs to just mix and match rooting methods to get root
Nice job even thinking of combining those though

There is currently only one root method, as laid out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616 .
The other ones are just automations of our method. Choice is your's, you will learn more and be prepared in case something goes wrong.

Well, first, have you even tried searching the forums? You aren't the first person that's run into problems.
At the very least you could provide a little more detail. You can't really expect anyone to help just by starting a new thread saying "it doesn't work," instead of posting in Bubbys thread, where it should be.
One thing I do recall, though I haven't gone through the process myself, is you need root for the S-On tool to work.

ok so you gotta provide more information about this rooting solution you have going on. You cant just post in the dev section and expect everyone to be on your level and understand what your doing here... more info would be helpful to be clear and not have to answer the same question a billion times.

Ok I see this is for rooting your g2x using the zergrush process.. a little explanation goes a long way.. Although this should probably be in the general section since its not dev'in... just my opinion.

What is this? Root? Is that short for root beer? Wow its been almost a year now since I saw that topic brought up. Well thinking back the release of v21e. Hmmm what was that stuff we used to get back in the day? It is simple enough to do I guess. It is always good to have more than 1 solution. I really forgot about it being that all but 3 Rome have root.
And come on, why does it have to be a baby seal?
Does any one know if this will work on total 2.3.4? I would try but after I post I am flashing kwes's 2.3.4

My rom is already rooted. If youre on stock v21y you can easily root using super oneclick if you dont want to flash my rom, however my rom adds more then just root. Well its not my rom, I just kanged LG and made some improvisations.
On topic: OP you should really add more info to your posts if you intend on posting in the dev section. The majority of us know there are alot of easy ways to gain root, hell you can root a g2x with a scientific calculator if you put your mind to it...
Back off topic: i loled at the baby seal punching thanks.

This is the RAZR bootstrap... and just because it boots doesn't mean its working...The current bootstrap we have boots under ICS but isn't fully functional. It's not you or your work. It's the fact that there have been a lot of hard bricks and we need to be extra careful about releasing anything for the ics leak. It needs to be tested by more than one person. It might work for you but not someone else. We are all being cautious, that's all.

[How to] Unbrick MF3 Custom Recovery Fail

I figured that I might post this to help some people as I see this posted a lot.
Are you one of the ones that tried to install a custom recovery on the MF3 update? Are you facing a never ending boot sequence or device just freezing at boot screen?
Try this to help you get a normal boot so your phone is at least usable. (Note that your factory recovery will no longer work!)
First off, do a battery pull.
After you put the battery back in (make sure it's not plugged up) go into download mode.
Click Cancel instead of continuing into download mode. Chances are your device will boot up normal. I've tried this with a device I own and also tried it on a few others (through PM and chat online).
If this works for you please let me know!
Lol I figured this out in 2 mins of owning the phone.

If you're stuck in download mode and cannot get to your OS, I think that counts as a brick! Yes, btw, post 11 in the first thread I linked shows the solution which I have been telling others to do...which you did us the favor of making a post about as well. I agree that it's good to make this post, though I think your thread title could be more useful if you edited it.
Also, should this method not work for some people, an alternative method is a good thing to have.

Funny lol. Well, I tried. And failed lol. Was just trying to save some others time that keep getting so stressed about answering some of the same questions over and over.

I think my suggestion in post #8 is still a good one.
Your current thread title makes it sound like you tried to flash a custom recovery on MF3 and it didn't work. There's no way anyone would read that title and think there's a "How To" guide in it.
Alright maybe that will work.

Lol I found this thread after I figured it out for myself. I was kind of hoping this would lead me into a way to get back my recovery.
This is how I fixed my brick.
Flashed this file in ODIN. Now my phone boots normally. Got it from another thread with a diff issue here on XDA. I tried it and it worked. Wish I could remember where and what the thread was called. I believe it was this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2360859
