I set up ABD and did it Manually eek:Well Copy and Paste). I think this is the best way to see what is happening and you will have ABD setup for other things.
There is currently only one root method, as laid out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616 .
The other ones are just automations of our method. Choice is your's, you will learn more and be prepared in case something goes wrong.

Yeah, I would recommend going with jcase's method.
Ok thanks I will look into it...I have a rooted EVO running on CM7 n my friend just got a thunderbolt n wanted to know how to save battery life n well rooting to me was probably the best way to go in order to save battery but he is worried about bricking his phone...

I did the manual adb root instructions are posted in the development forum its really not that hard and you kinda learn the ropes that way too.
I believe a one step method is now available...
Spelling method correctly.

+1 for manual root. Personally I like to see what's happening all the time. The process was flawless. Just gotta make sure you look out for typo's and make sure your MD5's are good, and you should be fine.

I just want to get rid of some of the stock at&t bloatware, how much root do i need in order to delete system files, and not install roms?
Lol. This made me laugh, but in all seriousness you have to have S-Off to get perm root to be able to remove bloat. There is a video tutorial somewhere around here, just be careful or wait for my one click.

As long as that one click doesn't require flashing any ROMs. Matching the Unrevoked method would be cool!

Well, first, have you even tried searching the forums? You aren't the first person that's run into problems.
At the very least you could provide a little more detail. You can't really expect anyone to help just by starting a new thread saying "it doesn't work," instead of posting in Bubbys thread, where it should be.
One thing I do recall, though I haven't gone through the process myself, is you need root for the S-On tool to work.

ok so you gotta provide more information about this rooting solution you have going on. You cant just post in the dev section and expect everyone to be on your level and understand what your doing here... more info would be helpful to be clear and not have to answer the same question a billion times.
edit:
Ok I see this is for rooting your g2x using the zergrush process.. a little explanation goes a long way.. Although this should probably be in the general section since its not dev'in... just my opinion.

your missing the point.. you cant just post stuff in the dev section and have no info on it.. not everyone is fluent in geek. its not about simple instructions its about providing the most info for the end user so noobs have no issues testing your time and effort..
Or where you got it from. Unless you learned this stuff, with in a couple days, if so then Congrats.

Maybe, mind you this is a stretch, this should go in the apps/themes section above general since it does do something for the phone.

What is this? Root? Is that short for root beer? Wow its been almost a year now since I saw that topic brought up. Well thinking back the release of v21e. Hmmm what was that stuff we used to get back in the day? It is simple enough to do I guess. It is always good to have more than 1 solution. I really forgot about it being that all but 3 Rome have root.
And come on, why does it have to be a baby seal?
Does any one know if this will work on total 2.3.4? I would try but after I post I am flashing kwes's 2.3.4

My rom is already rooted. If youre on stock v21y you can easily root using super oneclick if you dont want to flash my rom, however my rom adds more then just root. Well its not my rom, I just kanged LG and made some improvisations.
On topic: OP you should really add more info to your posts if you intend on posting in the dev section. The majority of us know there are alot of easy ways to gain root, hell you can root a g2x with a scientific calculator if you put your mind to it...
Back off topic: i loled at the baby seal punching thanks.
Nothing to see here, I'll wait til the official tool is released by the dev.
Looks like Adam has combined a bunch of the best root & recovery tools into one easy to use package. The DebugFS root is also available separately here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342

Depends on the root method. If this replaces the rom then yeah you will lose everything, but if you use this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342
then you will not have to change anything and it's pretty straight forward.

I had to do a factory reset on my phone yesterday to troubleshoot another issue, so I can't say 100% but the few changes I made earlier today (wallpaper, lock screen shortcuts, ringtones, installed Pandora) stayed in place. From the script, it just copies files over and then moves them to system partition during next couple boots. It does not wipe data / cache / dalvik like when you load a new ROM.
I don't know about the java tool here but the one Aquila mentioned ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342 ) works perfectly.
You won't lose settings or have to clear anything. Its really useful if you're on the VRALG1 firmwares and don't want to revert to LF2 from flashing a rooted ROM.
I downloaded to my pc, then hooked up my gs3 nothing? What an I suppose to do?
Never mind it worked

Should move this Thread to the development section. And let the Devs tell us if this is good or not, Pros and cons.
just noticed that Adam is a dev.but should move to development so it can be seen more!!
This tool works well without loss to data...of course no one but you is responsible if something goes wrong but from what I see it uses the debug method I have used it and obtained root fine

I'm going to go ahead and say it...
Adam posted this in the development thread where they are working on cracking the bootloader. If he wanted the masses to be using it or if it was ready for the masses to use he would have posted it outside of that thread.
I don't know if it was bc of this thread or not, but this got picked up by droid life and he had to take it down off the R&D thread.
Stuff like this shouldn't be reposted outside of that thread until it is ready and the dev who came up with it says it is ok to do so (or just posts it himself).

It may be safe, it may not be. I would go with there is a reason he hasn't released it to the public and you should use previously established methods for all this stuff.

Hey guys, as the title states, is there anyone working on root method for the latest OTA (9/4/12)? I foolishly updated, as always hoping they'd fix the reloading issue, and now I'm stuck on it because I can't seem to find a working root method for this update. If anyone needs a test phone, then I'm up for it, I gotta get this thing working properly already!!
Thanks,
John

I know what you mean, I've also gone through a bunch of different websites, and nothing there, perhaps another phone with a similar OS has a solution that could be worked off of. Heck, I've fiddled around with a few different methods, but the primary issue is not being rooted. I managed to get a part of the clockwork recovery, but even though I had a ROM in the sdcard root, my phone just rebooted, and no change was made, may try a different ROM for the heck of it.
