You need to fxz back to 2.3.5 then OTA to 2.3.6, then you should be able to OTA to official ICS.
If you was on 2.3.6 then use the normal fxz and patch, and if you was on ICS Leak#1 use Jim's script.

Axis, Just wanted to make sure...
I am not sure that we can do OTA after 2.3.5 FXZ as I remember somebody already reported as they don't see 2.3.6 OTA any more. I thought we had 2.3.6 FXZ package in that download page ( sbf driod developers page, last one is for 2.3.6 I believe). May be alteredkindness confirm as he is the one put together 2.3.6 fxz (for downgrading from ICS leak#1).
Edit:- Added the link for fxz download page

Yea i believe he said it was possible to fxz to 2.3.6 from GB in a related post.
Edit: Unless I'm overlooking it, I'm pretty sure if you are on GB 2.3.6, you have to go to 2.3.5 with the patch and OTA to 2.3.6. I believe the problem you're stating was related to ICS back to GB and that people couldn't OTA. But I think thats how the ICS to GB 2.3.6 came about.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
Double Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32113181 this has the gb 2.3.6 fxz for everyone on gb still. Apologies for not seeing this sooner.

I was also wondering about this...
I was also very curious about this, seeing as my phone came stock with 2.3.6 and all I've seen is 2.3.5... I suppose you could just update from there.
EDIT: I need more coffee. Please disregard last post, I was linking to a post with the tar for the KK1 2.3.6 update, not the subsequent UCLA3 2.3.6 update. Couldn't find a good link for the LA3 tar (Silver had posted one but the link has been down for a long time).
At any rate, you could Odin back to KJ2 stock and see if the official OTA update is still available (it was available yesterday to me on my secondary skyrocket...)
Anyone notice it was sent from a 777

I was on 2.3.6 and flashed the ICS and ran it for a few days and went back to 2.3.5 and tried the OTA update for 2.3.6 and it fails every time.

ya i restored to my 2.3.5 and found the update waiting for me. ATT only updates in waves so they don't overstress the network so that could be a reason.
And the update didn't work damn
I'll try it again in a few days, not much of a change anyway between the 2 OS's for me.

Using the link on the forum here to flash back to 2.3.5 will cause the OTA of 2.3.6 to fail every time. Person on another forum took his phone back to a corporate ATT store to have them reload the original OS and then it updated to 2.3.6 first try.

its a long process(might be a shorter way but i dont know any other way)downgrade to at&t 2.3.5 using jim's script and then using rsd lite flash searat asian retail 2.3.6 and then upgrade to ics
hit thanks if its helpful
Did the backup you are trying to restore get moved or renamed on your sd card?
That will cause a MD5 mismatch error

we dont know if he is having ATT hardware or other hardware
so if you are on ATT hardware then only go with JIM's script "FXZ back to 2.3.5" here
if dont have ATT hardware ..... dont flash above fxz else you will HARD BRICK
one more thing ...... FOLLOW THE RULES xactly as in jims script .....
all the best :fingers-crossed:

[PLEASE READ] Do NOT OTA update if you're on ICS and why

AT&T and Moto have released an OTA update for our initial (and stable) first leak. See the link below for more information on the first leak:
First leak info
The first leak is the ONLY version of ICS that we can safely FXZ back to GB from. I have seen many threads of people bricking lately due to installing this and making silly mistakes.
Until further notice, the Atrix 2 developers and other senior members are advising against installing ANY OTA update to ICS. If you want to be on ICS, then follow the procedure in the thread above. I REPEAT:
WE ARE ADVISING AGAINST INSTALLING ANY OTA UPDATES TO ICS. REGARDLESS OF WHAT LEAK YOU ARE ON.
Once you are on the ICS leak FREEZE the update process, so you don't get nags about updates.
We are just trying to allow you to keep the freedom you want on your phone and to save you from a brick.
THREADS YOU NEED TO READ FOR MORE INFO:
Threads on the OTA updates for our leak:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877140
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879998
Thread on ICS and your Atrix 2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882335
Let me go one step further. If you do not listen to the warnings and update anyway,Do not start a thread crying for help. There is no fix at this time. When/if a way back is found I assure you that it will be posted for the community.
So there is an official OTA for the leak but not to go from GB to ICS yet? Thanks Moto, not!

Honestly it seems more likely that this is an OTA for devs, or it's just trying to catch the people that installed the leak with their pants down.
Clarification

Thank you. OP title is "if you're on ICS", but the above seems to say "for any reason". This may be obvious to others, but I want to clarify - are you advising that those on GB 2.3.6 NOT update OTA to ICS either?
And if you're only saying that because we cannot safely revert to GB from OTA, is there any reason we wouldn't want ICS OTA so long as we can root?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, the devs and other senior members are recommending against doing the OTA update to ICS from GB as we have no way of going back. Because of the locked boot loader this phone depends on the fxz to get us out of soft bricks. And yes we currently can root the ota ICS update, but merely rooting your phone will not save you from a boot loop. Atm only an fxz will do that. We have ICS builds that are safe to flash. Read the links in the OP for more info.

So do you know if a fxz will come out for the OTA ICS? Or is there something built into it that will never allow an fxz for ics?

An fxz is possible. But we just can't know for sure. We have to find one. Just a waiting game.

It is possible to get back to the first ICS leak from the OTA. However, the method is not very user friendly and it is still recommended to stay on the first leak.

[Q] OTA ICS fails

Hey,
I rooted my phone a long time ago and really didn't do much with it other than used droidwall. I tried OTA updating and it failed. So I did a factory reset and then tried the OTA and it also failed. What are my options?
Thanks!
You've deleted or modified one of the files it checks. At this point you need to fxz to stock.

If you are rooted, you can check /cache/recovery/last_log for details about the install fail.
But, yes, you can use the 2.3.6 fxz if you are on GB.

If you was on ICS Leak#1, you can fxz back to 2.3.6, but if you was on 2.3.6 GB, you'll have to go back to 2.3.5 with the normal fxz and patch.
Edit: wow, I was slow on the draw!
Just be sure you use the correct one.

Where do I get FXZ 2.3.6 to 2.3.6? I looked in the UPDATE[7/22/12] The Beginners Guide !!! (NOOBS)[ALL IN 1 RESOURCE GUIDE]
I did not see the files. I am rooted and 2.3.6 I am getting an error when I try to update to ICS. I checked the cache and the error I had is:
failed to open the file (java.io.IOException at com.estrongs.android.pop.app.ct.run(unknown source) SO I assume if I FXZ to 2.3.6 I should be able to update to ICS?
