[Q] Need tool to access phone using PC, cant access phone - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have accidentally installed a theme that is probably of higher resolution than my phone screen. Now in locked mode the unlocking option/pattern/graphics is not visible as it is 'spilling out of screen'.Only a part of large lockscreen wallpaper is occupying my entire screen. Android debugging is on in my device (thankfully). Please suggest me a tool/method using which i can control the phone using PC(or atleast unlock the phone). I (obviously) cannot install anything on my phone, i found some such apps that need installation on phone.
Last option is to flash my phone in recovery with a ROM, but i dont want to do that if other ways possible. my phone is on MIUI ROM developed on 26/9/12

You can wipe your /data in recovery if you don't mind
Or you can manually delete the theme using adb(the apk will be in /data/app).
PS: make a nandroid backup first in case anything goes wrong...
Edit: if you don't know the Apk name, navigate to /data/app and type find(Idk if it will work on windows, cause I tested it in android )

how to i enter in my phone's system dir using command line??
what commands to enter?
thankfully i am able to atleast see files and folders in my phone's system using http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/

Why would you enter in your system dir.
Btw now that you have access to your phone, download rootexplorer or es file explorer and you'll have access to /data, /system and more

FIRST YOU STOP SPAMMING EVERYWHERE
What is the problem when you can see all system files and folder. Go to data /app.. and delete it. Or if you have moved the theme apk to sdcard.. just browse your sdcard using an adapter and delete that appname.apk from ".android_secure" folder.
Use these (if you havent moved the app to sdcard)
adb shell
login as.. su
cd data/app
ls
rm appname.apk
reboot

problem solved
Sorry 'senior member' , i did not mean to spam but if u can understand my desperation. btw problem solved- a noobie like me suggested to call from a different phone and while on the call change the theme....
i myself tried a lot fiddling with command line but wasnt able to figure out.
Peace \/

Download the zip file to the custom screen animation you want to use to your memory card. Boot up into clockwork recovery. Go to install from sdcard then choose files from sdcard. Navigate to the file u want to use then install it. The next time you boot the phone normally it should show you your new screen animation. Atleast that's how I do it with my rooted epic 4g using clockwork recovery

Use adb push or a file explorer with root to place the bootanimation.zip (from my attachment) in the folder "/system/media" it is the animation from your first youtube link.
If it says something like cannot write, read only permission, you have to type this into a console on the phone or in the adb shell first
"mount -w -o remount /system /system\n"
The boot animation is safe, it either shows, or it doesn't.

Yes dont extract just copy it there.
Either your phone supports this and shows the new animation.
If it doesn't support it nothing happens and you see the old animation.
Nothing can really happen. The old animation is still there.
If it is supported your phone will look at that directory and say ahhh a bootanimation.zip lets use that instead of the default one...

[Q] /data empty

i botched a simple bootanimation.zip change. i also cannot find the steps i was following. i have a sensation ARHD brand new version. i chose a bootanimation i like followed the steps using the program File expert. i copied and pasted into, if i remember properly /data/local once i hit paste a prompt came up and i i saw that i chose overwrite accidentally, but i didnt get a chance to read it. in any case it didnt work rebooted/powered off my phone and now the /data folder is not showing and under system/ i believe there used to be a data folder in there as well. What did i do? where are those folders? How can i successfully change my bootanimation? im new please be gentle with me.

thanks for responding

A backup in CWM is a nandroid..In the old Amon recovery it was just called a nandroid and is stil typically referred to as that, but a backup in CWM is the same.
If the bootanimation didn't change (or changed to nothing), you probably need to set the permissions...This can be done a few ways, either thru the command prompt or a file explorer. You need to give it read and execute permissions..From the command prompt you should be able to run "chmod 777 /system/media/bootanimation.zip" and that should work fine
no issues thankfully. just believe something went wrong bc i couldnt find that directory.
Also try another app such as root explorer. Some of these apps have a hard time reading /data.
Edit: glad you got it... Lol posted while you were posting

Theres a free file explorer on here called "root browser" that works great.
I think the issue here is the file permissions.

[Q] How to enable boot audio with CM

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, I can change audio easily with stock based roms but nothing I've found is working for CM based roms, preferably CM9 if possible. I don't know anything about this, looked up multiple threads none worked I tried the changes they said, editing lines in build.prop, init.local.rc and a way that says to run a script in Android terminal, everything is added/modified I get no audio still

There's an app called BAC lite, it shows an option to install boot audio binary and tells to use android_audio.mp3 in /system/media/ I haven't tried it with an MP3 or even a properly named ogg but I'd say to give it a shot for a possible quick, easy fix.

I couldn't get it to work, app changed boot animation fine but when I tried audio it said it installed the file but still heard nothing during boot
Can't remember where I found this procedure but it does work for me using CM7. I would guess it would work for CM9 and above as well.

*NOTE: Anything in brackets is either description of what is happening or an action you need to perform; don't type in anything in brackets*
What you need to do to get a boot sound on CM7/AOSP is the following.
1. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/bootsnd.sh Apparently some people had issues with the first link, so I uploaded it again. Download that file, place on your sdcard.
2. Take whatever sound you want and rename it to: android_audio.mp3 [needs to be mp3 format] and save it to the system/media folder using a file manager that lets you access system directories. I use Root Browser Lite (you can get from Play Store).
3. On your phone, open terminal emulator, and type in the following:
su [enter]
cd /sdcard [enter] *you can store the bootsnd.sh file to any folder on your SD card, so use this command to navigate to it*
ls [to list all files, you should see bootsnd.sh]
sh bootsnd.sh [enter]
You won't see a confirmation, or message, it just runs, and returns you to a # sign.
Reboot, and enjoy your boot sound.
*NOTE*
If you flash / change roms, you'll have to re-run the process to enable the boot sound again. If you get tired of it / don't want it, you can use root explorer and delete the file.
If your having trouble getting sounds to play this should fix the problem.

Here is how to fix it.
Make sure you are mounting in R/W mode on each of these steps.

Delete any instances of it.
Using a app like root explorer, goto /system/bin and delete the file bootsound.
Back out to /system now open build.prop in text editor mode, look for this text.
Code:
ro.config.play.bootsound=1
Delete it from the build.prop and save and exit.
This is optional but recommened.
Reboot phone.
Verify no sound is playing.
Now run the script again and reboot.
You should have a boot sound again.

A word of advice: NEVER delete system applications, instead just freeze them. You never know when you may need them or want them back, and if you delete something (case in point here) that you want back, then you're asking for possible unwanted issues...

Try doing "adb install com.motorola.PerformanceManager.apk" or copy it to SD card and then use some file manager.

Easiest way is to download the file to your computer, then connect your phone in usb mass storage mode to your computer, copy the .apk file you downloaded to your sdcard (which might show up as D: or E: in your PC), disconnect phone from computer, on phone use the "Files" file manager, go to "sd card", locate the .apk and tap on it to install. (Unknown sources should be ticked in your Settings > Applications)
Delete previous performance Manager that you have copied to system/app folder
Extract the attachment then copy both files to system/app without renaming or modifying them
Now to set the permission press and hold both files one after other for 3 seconds a window will appear in that select permission .
Now set permission as I have attached a Image.
People please help me I copied the apk and odex file and I have set the permissions but its not helping

For future reference just copying files to system/app never works. You ALWAYS have to push them with adb. Do you have adb set up on your computer?
If you must use root explorer, you need to copy the files first to the /system folder, and change the permissions to rw-r--r--.. Then "multi-select" both files and "MOVE" (do not copy) them to the /system/app folder, then reboot immediately. If you can go into recovery mode (with bootstrap or cwm on boot feature), then wipe dalvik and cache partition - if not, it may act up.. and it may not.. I have done this countless times with no issues (unless I was sloppy and forgot to rename or change permissions).
It's not the best method - farshad525hou is right, adb is cleaner.. but it can/does work

Yea, I know some folks are opposed to it and/or can't get it to work properly, but I've doing it for quite some time and never ran into a problem - unless I don't do something right. But, come to think of it, I am usually overwriting old files when pushing with root explorer, not placing new ones - I wonder if that may have something to do with it..?
But, I am all for adb - it's an excellent tool that everyone who wants to mod needs to get familiar with.
I suppose we are getting off topic, but this would make a good discussion thread somewhere...
EDIT: just checked, I guess I'm not alone after all!! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412729 - the key steps are to set permissions (which can't be done on the sdcard) and MOVE to /system/app (or where ever)
Where can i get abd?

Just do adb install xx.xx.xx.apk there is no need to remount (or odex file). What is the error message do you get when you tried adb install? If it says already installed, then go to settings -> applications -> all and uninstall the same, and try adb install again.

[Q] XBSALL'S ICS Ported rom 3D Converter problem

Hi everyone,
I'm sort of like new here, I had a problem entering download mode after flashing xbsall's ics ported rom, that's solved now due to some users posting threads with the same problem. Thank you
I noticed that no one is talking about the 3D Converter not working properly, I tried Angry Birds 1 (Space didnt have 3d functionalities under GB and Star Wars appears to be going the same way, I think Rovio is planning on realeasing another trilogy on the 3DS and that is why they took away 3D functionalities for smartphones).
Anyway, Angry birds 1 3D functionalities were not working properly under the 3D converter so I decided to delete the application through root uninstaller in order to be able to install the GB HRZ.apk version. While I was trying to do that, before being able to touch the uninstall feature, I noticed the root uninstaller did something and it deleted the application but in a wrong way. I was not able to install the HRZ.apk posted inside an xda thread because the system was telling me that it was going to replace a system application, bla bla bla and after going for its installation, it gave me the message that the application was not installed.
Through root explorer I deleted every single com.lge.lge3dconverter / hrz file and folder I could find, I cleaned the dalvic cache feature through the ram booster program and after all that, the system was still telling me the same thing as before when I tried to install the HRZ.apk GB app.
What can I do in order to be able to have a perfectly functional 3D Converter application for my games like I had it when I was using the GB rom? :crying:
Thank you in advance...

Thank you, I did what you said, I put the HRZ.apk GB app inside the /system/app and rebooted the phone, nothing happened, I do not *know what launcher are you talking about...sorry for that.
I did something else too, I put the HRZ.apk inside the /system/apps/boot (or bootloader cant remember) folder and managed to see it inside the Application manager app listed as needing an update (maybe its still detecting the ICS 3d converter app badly uninstalled as installed). I tried to update the app and it gave me an error.
Do you or anyone have or has the xbsall's ics 3d converter apk ? If so, can you put that apk version available here as a download, please?
I know it was the one that was giving me problems but if the system is not letting me install the GB 3.0 version, I need the one that came with the rom in order to see if there is another way to fix the problem...
Thank you and thank you guys for your help...
