There is a .sh file that needs to be removed, totally forgot the location of it :/
/etc/install-recovery.sh needs to be deleted or renamed.
It's a "safety" feature in 3.3.1 and above to restore the stock recovery if it doesn't pass a check on boot each time.
This is pointed out in numerous threads...search a little for more details if you need them.
Ok thanks

Are you mounting the /system partition as read/write?
Use root explorer or similar or issue the remount command from the command line before trying to rename it.
that's the trick just rename the image, and the CW recovery will stick
that's the way it's written in the step by step guide,

I am having problems renaming it as well. I'm not sure what you mean by "use root explorer or similar or issue the remount command from the command line before trying to rename it.
I have tried using Astro and Android Mate to rename the file and both will not let me.
EDIT: Nevermind, I used root explorer and was able to find "mount r/w" and rename it finally. Thanks.

Because those won't allow you to modify system files. Get Root Explorer, like he said, and use that.

Cause u probably used ADB to get it to stop reflashing the stock recovery. Using root explorer is the same thing only less technical.

True, I used adb, spent like 2 hour trying to get the pc drivers to recognize the nexus. I used the PDAnet drivers eventually.

Are you on a custom ROM like CM or Bionix? They remove the script that rewrites stock recovery.
If you're on stock, what version of it are you on? 2.3.1 and higher have a file called /etc/install-recovery.sh on them, and if that's there it should be reflashing stock on every boot, whether you renamed the image you flashed to recovery or not...
Hey all.
I was messing around today and decided to post this. If not for the current lack of development, I probably wouldn't even post this.
Just push twframework-res.apk with adb, root explorer or root manager. be sure you overwrite the existing .apk.
The screenshot posted below was taken on the fly. you'll notice I'm using TEAM AERODKNG's Notification bar... Frankly, their theme is radness, but I thought maybe someone would want a little change!

LOL Corradokng hooked it up with a flashable framework-res.apk. Im back and will try this again. Im a goof ball and didnt check but since im back up i went into system/framework and see the following files, twframework-res.apk and framework-res.apk. I slapped myself in the head and tested again. Worked like a charm! I like the look, way better than before.

go into framework folder and copy twframework-res.apk to a safe place on your sd card, in case you want to revert. With the file in the OP paste it into that directory, making sure you have w/r in root explorer or whatever you use.

if your follwing the process verbatim and nothing is happening try super manager or another file manager with root permissions. It should work without a hitch

Are you saying you have successfully done a full restore of a full nandroid backup?? If so that would be a big deal since I think that was the last issue with the cwm beta. Drhonk was saying he got a full restore to work at least without error but it hung on reboot.

@Ricky download file to your computer hook your phone up to the computer mount phone to computer (USB mass storage) right click file go down to send to and send it to the proper mass storage for your phone I have vista so that's how it works for me that should put the file on the root of your SD card open root explorer first go into system/framework go down to the twres apk long press it and select copy you will see paste at the bottom of your screen hit the back button twice go down to SD and put the copy in any sub folder you may want I use downloads then go down to the new file on your SD card from robbitt long press it hit move go back to system/framework in the upper right hand corner you will see a r/w press that then hit paste it will say it already exists do u want overwrite click yes back out then reboot should work with no problem.I think what u did was move the orig twres file instead of copying it hope this helps you.And thanks to robbitt love this mod sometimes its just the little things

I've not seen this listed in the continuum forums so I thought I'd post the link. I'm pretty tired of seeing Verizon every time I reboot my phone. The shutdown animations are easy enough to change but I've had little luck finding or figuring out the .qmg file thing. I was poking around and I found this thread in the Epic forums. I am currently running the Charge boot animation and it works great. The one hitch, after you install through recovery you'll need to go in an explorer, I use root explorer, to system/media and rename the your bootsamsung.qmg to something like boot.sam and rename the bootani.qmg file to bootsamsung.qmg. Hope you anjoy. Credit goes to nubecoder.

messed up somewhere
I did the whole rename thing but when i did it they came together(the names) then i didnt know which was which. Anyway some how i got boot.ani boot.sam & bootsamsung on there. dont know how to get back, any help would be much appreciated. Now all i get is the droid charge sound but no animation
The one you want to use has to have the .qmg file extension. So, it would be bootsamsung.qmg
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium
Sorry please forgive my ignorance. What do I do with that file exactly? You said use it? How?
You use CWM recovery to flash it. Once flashed you need to rename the files as outlined above.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium
I did that, and the first reboot had started with the continuum boot then showed the droid eye, then came on. After i changed the names but somehow got boot.sam, bootani.qmg, bootsamsung.qmg all in the media folder. Now I can hear the droid charge boot animation just cant see it. Was thinking should i just reflash the DC07 rom. then try this again or is there an easier way? Thanks
No need to reflash the ROM. I'd reflash the shutdowns and repeat the process. I've not got a clue what you might have done.

Yeah. Es defaults to /sd card. In the app go menu settings. Under home directory, make it just say "/" then scroll down to root and mount system, and make sure voth are checked. Then you are good.

Wow, there it is. Thanks.
Next Question. I renamed the bootsamsung.qmg to boot.sam, which got rid of the boot animation, but I don't have the bootani.qmg. I reflashed the boot image I downloaded, and looked again but it's still not there. Any suggestions?
EDIT: I reflashed the file, and the bootani.qmg showed up. Kind of sweet. Wish I could use some of the custom ones that are out there, but I guess I should be happy I was able to change it for now, eh?

You CANNOT remove apps from this phone.
Please read the noob post, here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
You will have to get the fxz file from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415336
You can either flash this to your phone, which is what I recommend, since you did not read or search the forum, I am quessing you are pretty noob. This will take you back to 100% stock.
Or if you really want the abilty to f' up your phone more, or are more advanced than you have given the impression you are, keep reading.
You can use that fxz file, to extract the files needed from it to pack on your phone using the sdk, and pushing those files to your phone. I will not tell you how, but you can do some searches on XDA to figure all that out.

Try using the fxz files and extract the system.img I can't really tell you what to go and get to do that with, but a google search should help you.
Grab the sdk:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Install that and the drivers for the phone, from here:
This if on 32-bit:http://www.mediafire.com/?71c12qc4a1svqza
And this for 64-bit:http://www.mediafire.com/?ysphmaz131d3an9
find out how to mount that system.img file in windows, a google search will do well for that.
Copy those files you removed from the system/app directory/folder
and then find where you copied those files to and open a command prompt from there, and:
Code:
adb push filename.apk /data/local
adb shell
su
mount -o remount, rw /system
cd /data/local
cp filename.apk /system/app
chmod 440 /system/app/filename.apk
You will do the push for each file you removed, and also the cp and chmod, just replace the "filename" with the actual filename of the files.
Worst case, if you completely f' your phone up, you can restore the fxz, with RDS lite 5.6 or higher. At least this way you might learn something in the process.
Jim,
Let me ask you a quick question, pushing files with adb does the same as copy them using RootExplorer?
I tryed copy them with Root Explorer into system/app folder, still having problem.

No, you can not use root explorer, it does something funny when it copies those type of compressed files, an apk, is kind of like a zip, and that can be "extracted" so to speak and run, without taking the zip apart.
You HAVE to use adb to push the files, then use the unix/android cp command. Just use the code I posted exactly the way I have it, or it will not work.

The best way is before trying to remove system applications (showing in red in Titanium), freeze it with Titanium backup. And only if your phone is working perfectly with this app frozen, you might think about removing this app. But why to remove it if it does not take any resources when frozen?
Thought i'd put this on it's own thread so it doesn't get lost in the sea of comments where i put it originally. Mods, if this belongs somewhere else please move.
For anyone wanting to change their emoji and not sure if you want to use that switcher app, its very simple. Install ES file explorer (i can't imagine most of you don't already have it) and go to system/fonts and locate "NoToColorEmojii.ttf" and rename it to your liking (i just renamed it with NoToColorEmojii_OLD.ttf). Then download a replacement TTF emoji file, i used this one :

I am certain about root priviliges. SuperSU prompts me when root is required, and I am using a custom rom.
I used a script in the app RomManager to mount system RW to no avail.
I am using ES File Manager. I dont understand this, so any help is appreciated. Thanks

I'm not a noob by any stretch but I'm feeling like one again with this LG stuff so just to clarify this is basically just a guess, but if you're positive you have root access then it sounds like the problem could be with the file explorer you're using. I don't use es file explorer myself so if it is the problem I couldn't tell you why, but I use solid explorer and I haven't had any issues with modifying system files. Anyway just thought I'd throw it out there in case you haven't already tried with a different file explorer. Hope it helps

That's good advice. My first thought exactly. I think the real problem was i had assumed the rom came with Busybox already installed. I installed Busybox when scripts for read/write access wouldnt run in apps that required it. Now things work perfectly.

It's funny because I had a similar problem when I first installed Adaway because it would download the updated host but it kept failing to install, and then it finally dawned on me when I was doing something else that required busybox that it wasn't already installed because for some reason I also had just assumed it was. Anyway I'm glad to hear you got it figured out ?
