Samsung boot animations - Continuum Themes and Apps

I've not seen this listed in the continuum forums so I thought I'd post the link. I'm pretty tired of seeing Verizon every time I reboot my phone. The shutdown animations are easy enough to change but I've had little luck finding or figuring out the .qmg file thing. I was poking around and I found this thread in the Epic forums. I am currently running the Charge boot animation and it works great. The one hitch, after you install through recovery you'll need to go in an explorer, I use root explorer, to system/media and rename the your bootsamsung.qmg to something like boot.sam and rename the bootani.qmg file to bootsamsung.qmg. Hope you anjoy. Credit goes to nubecoder.

Good find
Looks Like once you rename the files after the flash, you can reflash another without having to change names again.

Thanks for this!

messed up somewhere
I did the whole rename thing but when i did it they came together(the names) then i didnt know which was which. Anyway some how i got boot.ani boot.sam & bootsamsung on there. dont know how to get back, any help would be much appreciated. Now all i get is the droid charge sound but no animation

The one you want to use has to have the .qmg file extension. So, it would be bootsamsung.qmg
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium

Sorry please forgive my ignorance. What do I do with that file exactly? You said use it? How?

You use CWM recovery to flash it. Once flashed you need to rename the files as outlined above.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium

I did that, and the first reboot had started with the continuum boot then showed the droid eye, then came on. After i changed the names but somehow got boot.sam, bootani.qmg, bootsamsung.qmg all in the media folder. Now I can hear the droid charge boot animation just cant see it. Was thinking should i just reflash the DC07 rom. then try this again or is there an easier way? Thanks

No need to reflash the ROM. I'd reflash the shutdowns and repeat the process. I've not got a clue what you might have done.

Ok, thanks a bunch, think Ive got it now.

The rom is EC07 not DC07... Try not to spread bad info. People get confused easily.

Stupid question, but I can't find /system folder. I'm using ES file explorer. Any help?

Yeah. Es defaults to /sd card. In the app go menu settings. Under home directory, make it just say "/" then scroll down to root and mount system, and make sure voth are checked. Then you are good.

Wow, there it is. Thanks.
Next Question. I renamed the bootsamsung.qmg to boot.sam, which got rid of the boot animation, but I don't have the bootani.qmg. I reflashed the boot image I downloaded, and looked again but it's still not there. Any suggestions?
EDIT: I reflashed the file, and the bootani.qmg showed up. Kind of sweet. Wish I could use some of the custom ones that are out there, but I guess I should be happy I was able to change it for now, eh?

Hey all.
I was messing around today and decided to post this. If not for the current lack of development, I probably wouldn't even post this.
Just push twframework-res.apk with adb, root explorer or root manager. be sure you overwrite the existing .apk.
The screenshot posted below was taken on the fly. you'll notice I'm using TEAM AERODKNG's Notification bar... Frankly, their theme is radness, but I thought maybe someone would want a little change!
word up, folks. happy MoDding.

LOL Corradokng hooked it up with a flashable framework-res.apk. Im back and will try this again. Im a goof ball and didnt check but since im back up i went into system/framework and see the following files, twframework-res.apk and framework-res.apk. I mistakenly changed the name and pasted, which softbricked.
I slapped myself in the head and tested again. Worked like a charm! I like the look, way better than before.

go into framework folder and copy twframework-res.apk to a safe place on your sd card, in case you want to revert. With the file in the OP paste it into that directory, making sure you have w/r in root explorer or whatever you use.

try supermanager, root explorer for some reason hasnt been playing to nicely with system files and binary files.
if your follwing the process verbatim and nothing is happening try super manager or another file manager with root permissions. It should work without a hitch

Are you saying you have successfully done a full restore of a full nandroid backup?? If so that would be a big deal since I think that was the last issue with the cwm beta. Drhonk was saying he got a full restore to work at least without error but it hung on reboot.

@Ricky download file to your computer hook your phone up to the computer mount phone to computer (USB mass storage) right click file go down to send to and send it to the proper mass storage for your phone I have vista so that's how it works for me that should put the file on the root of your SD card open root explorer first go into system/framework go down to the twres apk long press it and select copy you will see paste at the bottom of your screen hit the back button twice go down to SD and put the copy in any sub folder you may want I use downloads then go down to the new file on your SD card from robbitt long press it hit move go back to system/framework in the upper right hand corner you will see a r/w press that then hit paste it will say it already exists do u want overwrite click yes back out then reboot should work with no problem.I think what u did was move the orig twres file instead of copying it hope this helps you.And thanks to robbitt love this mod sometimes its just the little things

changing boot animation trouble

not having much luck when searching.
I downloaded and followed the instructions exactly as shown here for nexus prime boot animation:
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/08/download-nexus-prime-boot-animation/
but still no change. still has the stock gummy one from GBE 2.0. not sure if i have to removed the old boot animation physically? I dont want to screw things up.
i also tried to do it this way but i cannot paste into system/media. apparently it is a read-only file system. i just went through astro, es file manager, SU, root explorer, i just purchased and tried all of them and returned them. none worked.

[Q] /data empty

i botched a simple bootanimation.zip change. i also cannot find the steps i was following. i have a sensation ARHD brand new version. i chose a bootanimation i like followed the steps using the program File expert. i copied and pasted into, if i remember properly /data/local once i hit paste a prompt came up and i i saw that i chose overwrite accidentally, but i didnt get a chance to read it. in any case it didnt work rebooted/powered off my phone and now the /data folder is not showing and under system/ i believe there used to be a data folder in there as well. What did i do? where are those folders? How can i successfully change my bootanimation? im new please be gentle with me.

A backup in CWM is a nandroid..In the old Amon recovery it was just called a nandroid and is stil typically referred to as that, but a backup in CWM is the same.
If the bootanimation didn't change (or changed to nothing), you probably need to set the permissions...This can be done a few ways, either thru the command prompt or a file explorer. You need to give it read and execute permissions..From the command prompt you should be able to run "chmod 777 /system/media/bootanimation.zip" and that should work fine
no issues thankfully. just believe something went wrong bc i couldnt find that directory.
Also try another app such as root explorer. Some of these apps have a hard time reading /data.
Edit: glad you got it... Lol posted while you were posting

Theres a free file explorer on here called "root browser" that works great.
I think the issue here is the file permissions.

Where do you get boot animations? And do they work with all roms?

I saw a cool transformers one. I want a cool one like Spiderman or something instead of my HTC boot animations. Do I just flash it from recovery?

I was a noob once
Someone has already beaten me to to the punch. Lol. And since that is already done, there's no point in wasting more precious XDA space. It completely depends on the ROM you're using. I'm using OrDroid. And the bootanimation is placed in the /system/customize/resource/ folder with the name "hTC_bootup_sensation.zip" All I do is find another boot animation made for the Sensation or it's resolution, and replace it using ES File Explorer with the root access and "mount System as rw" options checked. This location is different for ARHD. I think it's in /system/media. Browse around and locate this file first. Then the rest is easy. Hope I helped!

you have to change the permissions on the folder the original bootanimation file is on to read/write. By default the directory is set to have only read permissions

You can also make your own boot animations ax it is fairly simple to put the animations together. The only real hard part is making your pictures and scaling them to the right scale. Here is a tool to make them with if you do not want to write the text file your self. But like I said it is not hard. P m me if you want some further details.

[How To] Boot Animations

Figured while we are waiting for some custom roms, we could still get a little custom action going on. I got tired of sprints boot animation and started playing w root explorer. Need root access, and a file manager that has permission to write to system folders.
You may want to back up the original sprint_bootanimation.zip to another location before copying any other files, just in case you want to return to stock. I ended up losing mine in a wipe, once I got it back I figured it would be a good idea to have one posted for anyone who needed it, see below.
Below is a link to the Razr stock bootanimation.zip (most 960x540 animations will work, as well as several other resolutions, play around and see what you find and like), rename it sprint_bootanimation.zip and copy it to /system/media. After it is moved change the permissions to rw-r--r-- , should be able to do this by long pressing the file. The other is an OGG file (do not rename), also copy this to /system/media folder. Voila, you now have the stock Razr boot animation whenever you boot your phone, sound and all.
If anyone would like to post some more stock or custom animations below, feel free.

That's odd, I assume you granted root explorer su permission. Maybe go into system settings, apps and clear data in root explorer? If that doesn't get it try es file manager, open menu, settings; close to the bottom of the list is root settings, check all the boxes. It will ask for su permission & you should be able to do it then.

Just a thought. Did you hit the Rw/Ro toggle in the upper right hand corner when you were in /system? People sometimes for get about that.
@OP, Here is a Pro-Tip that I have been using for a long time on a few different phones if you like to swap bootanimations a bunch.
If you drop your "custom" BA in /data/local and set permissions, it will boot up when the phone does. By doing it this way, you can test out as many BAs as you want and all the while your original in /system/media is left clean and unadulterated. I have collected a bunch over the years and have them on my sdcard. Another trick to put them in folders to easily copy over into /data/local at will. So it would be sdcard/MYBootAniations/Clockhell/bootanimation.zip or sdcard/MYBootAniations/RollerCoaster/bootanimation.zip.
Sometimes, I will drop one in my wife's /data/local and then the next time she boots up BAM!!! She is pretty saavy at these things, so it is shortly after bootup when I get a text or call.
Nice, thanks for that, I will give it a try.
