[Q] Can someone provide a new way to root the GX2? - T-Mobile LG G2x

So, I was following the steps of this thread to get Super One Click, only problem, one link directs me to an FBI notice, the other directs me to a petition against the FBI.............
Can someone point me into a, currently working, method on how to root the GX2?
Edit: read the 4th reply for my current problem.
40 minutes have passed, and Gingerbreak has done nothing (it hasn't completed, but it's been 40 minutes, and there's no indication of its progress...) :/ I'm at a loss here. I can't root the GX2, and without it being rooted I seemingly can't install any custom roms.
Can someone please provide a noob-friendly tutorial that explains how to root the GX2? I've tried NVFlash, Super One Click, and Gingerbreak 1.2.0. None of them have produced any results...

Use nvflash to flash CWM Recovery, then flash a rooted stock ROM (or any other ROM, for that matter)

Running nvflash pops up an error, saying "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. ..."
Apparently there's a windows version? Downloaded. Im confused... how does this work?

I think I got Gingerbreak to work? We'll see.

The first problem I see is the thread you referenced here is for the O2x, not the G2x. You need too confirm which phone you have. The G2x is LG P-999, while the O2x is LG P-990.
They cannot use the same root methods, AFAIK

That is the least helpful response to a request for a noob tutorial I have the GX2, GB 2.3.4, all the tutorials I'm finding are to root 2.3.3 or lower, everyone I come across is wondering how to root 2.3.4, and the only seemingly helpful tutorials are blocked by the FBI. Can someone please point me to a *helpful*, **working**, ***current*** tutorial?

How is saying something is unhelpful, disrespectful? I merely specified what I was looking for, after not getting any actual help from neglecting to do so previously.
Allow me to reiterate my problem:
I have an T-Mobile LG Gx2 with GB 2.3.4 installed. To my knowledge, SuperOneClick, NVFlash, and GingerBreak have no effect on 2.3.4. Also to my knowledge, there are a handfull of people in my same situation who also have the same problem (on a YouTube tutorial on how to root the LG Gx2 specifically, which only shows 2.3.3 installed).
To me, there seems to be an impassable obstacle here, and I was hoping to find some help. What I found was non-help, which I explained.
So, I respectfully request help on this issue; how am I to get around this seemingly impassable obstacle? If you have the know-how, please explain it intimately, as I am still learning how to do these things (I have upgraded my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant SGH-T959 to CM10, but I have yet to come across any problem like this before).

1. Download both files 2. Unpack it to the C drive to their respective folder 3. Remove the battery 4. Hold Vol Up/Down (and keep them held) 5. Insert the USB cable 6. Install APX driver from the your APX folder
For windows 7(and vista? please confirm): Open Device Manager in Windows and you should see "APX Device" listed with an error Right click on the APX device Select 'Update driver software' Select 'Let me pick...' Select 'Have disk' Browse to directory you extracted the APX Driver Select the *entire* 'APX Driver' folder Accept any warnings, including the big red alert (you may need to disable UAC) Now in Device Manager under 'USB Controllers' you should have an 'NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for mobile devices' If not, uninstall the driver, reboot, rinse and repeat Unplug everything 7. Hold Vol Up/Down (and keep them held) 8. Insert USB cable 9. open your ROM folder: 10. Run Flash.bat file and wait for the process 11. After the logo appears on the LG phone 12. Unplug USB cable 13. Seriously? perhaps you're just the worst noob ever. You says you used something you find in the forum for a DIFFERENT phone. We can't help you if we're giving you instructions for the wrong phone, so confirming the phone is a very important step. Also, if you would try just a little bit of searching you would find countless tutorials for noobs on this site.
I can personally confirm nvflash works on 2.3.4. Nvflash does not depend on the ROM in any way, shape, or form.
And if you want to install any custom ROMs on this phone, nvflash is pretty much a must. Follow the instructions verbatim and you should be fine.
And try not insulting people who have been here for a while and are trying to help you, because you might not get much help after that

This thread has a link to a batch file that uses nvflash to push CWM. It will walk you through the steps. Also, you may need to put your computer in compatibility mode to use it. Sorry I can't help with that part, I'm not running Windows 7

Nv flash will root your phone... Just follow the thread in the dev section. Step by step. It will seem kinda weird cuz you plug the phone into the pc without the batt but I can assure you it will be fine. You will reach the promise land when done!

Basically, if you don't use nvflash then don't bother rooting your phone.

How to root Samsung Galaxy 4g

Pretty simple root method.
1. Download SuperOneClick found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2. Once installed click rage option then Root.
The rage option is if you look on the right of SuperOneClick you will see Exploit and there you will see rageagainstthecage option there. This could be just an SuperOneClick 1.7 option. If you don't see it either upgrade or using just the root button should work.
If it is frozen at waiting for device you will need to install the samsung drivers found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
If all goes well you should be rooted. Pretty simple wasn't?
At this time ClockworkMod nor RecoveryManager work so please don't ask about them. When they get updated we will post it.

true, however that thread doesn't have the links needed to do the root in the OP, so actually this thread is better for those looking to root without the need to go searching throughout the thread.
also when i rooted my device there wasn't a "rage" option for me to choose. i just clicked on root and everything went fine.
They can delete my thread if they want, it's not that big of a deal.
INCORRECT!!!
I did not have to use rage against the cage, i just did default exploit in superoneclick and everything went perfectly!

I also don't know what this Rage option is. I did shell root for temp root and then perm root via the root button on SuperOneClick 1.6.5

I get an error message saying that it can't find the file specified. This is my first time rooting a phone and i have no idea what i am doing. I looked at the other thread and tried using the rage thing. Nothing is working.
I connected my phone via usb. Put it in mass storage, as opposed to Media Player or the Kies option.
Not sure where to even begin.
Dont put mass storage. Just leave it charging while having usb debugging.
Just tried that. Saying the same thing. I turn on debugging, connect the device via USB, open SuperOneClick, hit root, and it bring up the same thing.
Saying the system cannot find the file specified.
I just got the phone today and haven't done anything else to it, or added any apps to it or anything. Is there something i need to put on the phone or no?
all right thanks man ill try it out see if it works

Hahaa nice i was same place as you where... I had Fuze and then Touch pro2 running energy roms... Well man you could try an older version of super obe click but.. The new one never gave me trouble.
And if as you say, you want to root to possibly flash a GB ron later the possibukity of Odin flashing a pre rooted Rom its still a good choice if super one click keeps giving you trouble, it will basicly leave your stuff like pics music etc intact and flash a rom with root included ill add you a few thread links when i get to my pc.

I do have a question tho. Your links are for ultimate unbrick, right? So basically that is a staock rom for users to flash back to if they go too far down the rabbit hole?
- Thanks, Kevin
It works fine if you don't use zergrush as the exploit.
Zergrush kept hanging for me with latest superoneclick version.
Switched exploit to psneuter and it worked fine

For anyone looking step by step guide:
1. Download the Clockwork 3.0.2.4 file, Clockwork 4.0.1.4 did not work for me (it was able to unlock but would not detect the now unlocked phone)
2. Extract files to C drive or desktop
3. Enable USB Debugging on the phone by going to Settings->Application->Development
4. Run the PDANET installer included in the ZIP
5. Plugin the phone when asked to
6. Once drivers are installed with the phone ON, run the run.bat file included by right clicking and selecting Run As Administrator (If windows 7 or Vista)
7. Follow the prompts

Root sidekick quick and easy. One click with recovery

Guys so i wanted to root my phone and
1) i just didnt have to patience to do all the work
2) i didnt get some stuff
3) and i wanted to do this quickly and effectively
i found this youtube video after like an hour of searching and it worked GREAT. [Video and end of post]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
pretty much the instructions are to:
Download the drivers first *NECESARRY*******IMPORTANT. this is one of the ke things cause without this is wont work in the beginning
*JUST A MENTION*
i tried doing this on my 64 bit system and it wasnt as easy when i did it on my 32 bit.
so it could have just been my comp.
just a heads up.
64 bit driver:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32 bit.
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
After that you're going to download this file:
http://tinyurl.com/Sidekick4GALLinOne
this is the file/folder whatever that will root your sidekick and add the CWM.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^REQUIRES WINRAR^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so to start rooting and the CWM
1) You're going to install the the driver that you download...64 bit or 32 bit etc.
2) after that you're going to set your phone to "USB DEBUGGING" when connect and ofcourse
connect your phone
after that your open up the folder thats called "sk4g root with good recovery"
3) ignore everything you see and just go straight to run.bat
4) click it and then wait, "Press any key to continue" press anything
5) let the thing run and you should be set at the end.
ENJOY
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
your phone will reboot during the process and that is ok
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
if your doing this to install a new rom i recommend ayoteddy's GingerCloneV2. if great and has barly any glitches

This phone doesn't have much of a life left anymore anyway. Most people have already left. The phone was a great idea, just needed to have better specs and have a more open source. Right now its just on it's last breath. Kinda makes me sad, the keyboard was amazing. The doubleplays keyboard doesn't even compare. But I couldn't handle how slow a single core CPU is. As with most people.

[Q] Official CM Installation Method Confusion

Greetings,
My name is Tim and I'm looking for some assistance with getting CM 10.1.3 up and running on my GS3 (d2vzw / SCH-i535). I'm not a complete noob, as I managed to successfully flash CM to my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and my Droid X2 after countless hours of reading through XDA forum posts for each of the devices, however...I'm still pretty new to a lot of this stuff as I usually don't mess with it once I get CM up and running, and struggle with command prompts still, so I apologize for any/all idiocy posted herein.
I am using the instructions found on the CM site under the d2vzw device (I'd link you but it doesn't appear as though I'm allowed to), and after reading that I don't need to root my device to install CM, I'd prefer to stick with this method (I'm also uncomfortable using Odin or any other such software, as I've heard bad things and already managed to soft brick my GS3 once with it.)
I've got all the appropriate files listed at the above page, but I'm confused with several aspects of the "official" install instructions, and would like some clarification, if possible. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
1) USB drivers: I installed the Samsung drivers, but when I ran heimdall print-pit in CMD, it failed giving me an error 12 (can't remember what, specifically, but apparently it has to do with USB drivers). A bit of Google-ing, and I was able to determine that Samsung drivers = bad. Okay, I can deal with that and have uninstalled them. However, does that mean I need to NOT let Windows 7 Update auto install drivers? Further, do I need to use the zadig app to install drivers before I can use Heimdall appropriately? I ask because after I uninstalled the Samsung drivers and rebooted, I tried to flash but it failed.
2) Wording of CMD commands confuses me. Heimdall flash --ABOOT aboot.mbn - okay, I get that I'm typing "heimdall flash" as the preface, but the actual aboot.mbn file is within a .tar file...so do I just flash to the location of the actual tar file? Or do I extract it with 7zip (as I initially tried) and try to flash to the location of the actual aboot.mbn file? Further, --ABOOT doesn't show up on the list of viable options within CMD, which confuses me (is it part of the command, or is it a place holder for some command I'm not understanding).
3) Same question for the other CMD commands.
I've looked around on XDA, the Heimdall site, and elsewhere for more detailed "official" install guides, but they all seem to either involve Odin or rooting, and as I mentioned I want nothing to do with either of them, if possible.
Thank you kindly for your time.
Sure you can do all that, but there are some easy one click root apps for the gs3. Then install cwm recovery. Then flash CM and GAPPs.
Just search the forum and you should be able to find the thread.
Good luck!!

The only "one-click app" I know of is Framaroot which does not work on the VZW varient of the GS3. So what app are u referring to?

I was not referring to an apk on the phone, meant pc app.
I have not personally used this, but looks like it will do the trick.

I thought I downloaded that before and it ended up being a jumble of files...but I just downloaded it now and it looks promising. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try tomorrow!

If you want just go try out the cyanogenmod installer from the play store. It should root, unlock, and install for you. Just follow the instructions in the app.

Well, I just tried using the "casual" root one-click thing.
I successfully rooted, but it took ~10 minutes on the flashing of aboot. It claimed to be done, but when I tried to flash CWM it rebooted into the "unauthorized software, contact verizon" screen.
Any ideas? This makes me sad. I don't know why this is so much more difficult than my other devices.
-e- I can still get into download mode, but when I try to go into recovery it just loops back to the main samsung screen with the custom icon and then hops into the verizon unauthorized stuff. Also, when I plug it in to charge it just vibrates once every ~5 seconds without doing much else.
Additionally, I still don't know which USB drivers I want for doing all of this. I'm relying on the ones Windows 7 auto-installs currently, if that helps with troubleshooting. Thank you in advance, again.

you just didn't unlock your bootloader that's all. Flash stock (or stock recovery) using Odin. Then root using the same method above. When rooted unlock your bootloader using EZunlock1.2. Its an app that runs on your phone. Then flash recovery. Done.
Edit: at this point it may be easier to just flash a prerooted stock ROM using Odin.
