how i plan to root my warranty replacement - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

easy as heart surgery...
ill simply pop out the logic board of my current device and replace it in the warranty replacement hehehe
the warranty replacement is for lcd burn so theres nothing wrong with the board BUT..............................
is there REALLY no way to root and rom 2.20?? i mean NO workarounds?? i dont care about flashing kernels i just want to flash viper or aokp or something i dont care about kernels and modems i thought i read about a work around if you flash a boot.img through fastboot/adb or something
sorry im so new to HTC ive only ever had samsungs

Flashing the boot.img from fastboot is the requisite method for flashing kernels on 2.20. You must be rooted with an unlocked bootloader to do this.
There is currently no root method for 2.20 whatsoever.
But good luck with the swap! Let us know if you go through with it and how it turns out.

Well when you remove the 2 screws you will break the tamper seals. Also when they power it up and find the imei is different they will bill you 504$. So use caution.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

If you switch the boards id expect to get billed for the price of a phone like mentioned already. Warranty replacement is usually a refurbished device that you receive no?? There's a chance you'll get another device with 1.85. I just bought a refurbished unit last week and it came with 1.85 i successfully rooted and unlocked it, no issues.

Hmmm hasn't considered the getting billed for wromg imei...suppose a hard brick on the phone being sent back is in order.

Or perhaps I'll just decide to keep my old one technically their getting the imei they originally sent me...but really still switch the boards and keep the new screen and housing

Uh, if you're so technically gifted, why not buy a screen on eBay and install it yourself. That's what I've decided to do over my cracked screen. It was either that, or an SGS3.

I'm somewhat interested to see if it works or fails. If it fails it will end up costing a lot more than the price of a screen. If it works then id like to know.
Would be funny if you get the last screw in and find out a root for 2.20 was found lol

He's taking the screen from one phone, and putting it on another phone......of course it will work

I'm not even trying to be an a*s here, but this could be a beneficial thread if the op would present it as a walkthru or a tutorial. XDA is here to help or to get help.....opening a thread with easy as heart surgery, and discussing what he is capable of doing with a smirk does nothing. That's the only reason I spoke on this thread.....it would be nice op, if you would demonstrate, and teach everyone how to safely do this so it can be used in the future....you will gain much more respect and be offering the community more, instead of simply saying hey look what I can do, it's very hard but I'm skilled enough to do it *flexing*

They didn't promise anything about the sensation. This phone was a month from release when that was announced. U had to know they meant phones after the sensation and Evo 3d

I really wish people would stop crying over the fact that this phone will have never have it's bootloader unlocked. It's depressing.
Jesus Christ u guys are f***** babies.
This is like the 8th thread about the same thing. There is one Rom avail. If s off was availble u will be complaining about the one rom that is present and u want more. U have root and u have the overclocking ability now. U know what u were getting into during the purchase. The ones that are complaining should have just held out till s off has been implemented.
U want it so bad develop it.
Humans are working on s off not robots. The phone isn't even a month old so pull down your skirts and stop complaining. They already said the developers are bricking their phones trying to get s off correctly. So do u still want them to rush it? Than that will be something else you guys can ***** and moan about. Than 100's of threads will pop up:

No, we don't have the overclocking ability with the Sensation, only with the Evo 3D, get informed before taking such a superior-I-m-more-adult-than-you tone.
We can only downclock so far, it won't go over the stock 1188Mhz.
As it was said here before, whether HTC unlock the Sensation and the Evo or not, they could at least answer YES or NO. It has been one month with not a single official piece of information from HTC about this.
The work of devs on these devices is amazing, no need for them to rush in, they already did better than HTC did, when for HTC unlocking our devices would just be so easy.....

How do I perm-root my TMO USA Sensation

I want to root my Tmobile USA Sensation but I am clueless. I have never done this before so I was wondering if someone can give me a step by step guide.
Also, once I reboot the device, will it go back straight to stock version and not have any side effects?
You cannot perm-root at this time. Check the dev forum for temp-root options.

How to root sensation:
1) place in washer with light colored clothing. Darks will bleed and cause screen discoloration.
2) add mild detergent, no bleach.
3) do not use spin cycle, this may damage phone.

Polite Request

Hello everyone, I'm Indirect and while most of you have no idea who I am, I was politely asked to come help you all out for development towards downgrade / s-off on your devices. Now, as much as I would LOVE to help, I can only do so much without the actual device. I know this sounds like mooching, annoying, etc that some other "developers" do to try and gain attention but I'm sure you can see that I've made progress in just a few short hours as you can see here So I would like to now ask the community I'm trying to help if they would be willing to help me out as well and have my job be just a bit easier. I own multiple devices that I work on (Evo View 4G tablet, Nook Tablet, Nexus S 4G) and I develop for the evo shift when I can get around to it, but since I am not 18 and unemployed, I can't really go out and just throw down cash for a mytouch. Developing is essentially my career, balance that with school and my life gets hectic. So, if you read on, you will see how much I'm working towards.
What I need vs What I have:
Bought a device and it had a board failure within 2 hours... -- edit: RMA'd this one
New device, killed that one and since it has a void sticker broken and I'd rather not send it to HTC for moral reasons, I want to have it JTAG'd.
Well guys. I bricked 2 MT4GS while helping test s-off. Looks like I need to RMA one and JTAG the other. What do I need? Well, it cost 40$ + shipping. I know some stuff about the kernel, but not atm enough to get a custom kernel up and running. Also guys, I seriously only have 1$ to my name, pretty sure it won't be enough. Lol.
This would be fantastic - I was working with this character last night in IRC and he's got the enthusiasm necessary backed up by the knowledge we need to get in our corner of XDA.
People are complaining from time to time about the anemic development here in the MT4GS forums, well, here is a way of increasing that dev.
If people aren't interested or able in picking up the torch themselves to get involved in development, then helping someone like this get a device in their hands will help us all out.
Normally i'm not such a fan of this but this is the real deal - we get a device in his hands and we WILL see more dev around here.
Look at the progress he's already helped us make towards the S-OFF issue - we got past getting the misc.version put in place and unraveled another layer of the issue, now we are stuck on hboot being our block.
Not bad for someone without a physical device in their hands, eh? Imagine what he could help us with not having to work proxy through one of us...

well , there's a phone I want to buy and the seller stays at newlondon...my brother is at Stamford, but he said it would be trouble traveling that distance to and fro...
so if there's anyone closer to newlondon willing to help me...
pick up the phone from the person, and just ship it to Stamford or meet personally....
I'm willing to pay them for the favour too...
the phone is a bb9930...
thanks...
Well you will be hard pressed to fund anyone to do it in my home town. To be honest I would not do it unless you can be there to test then phone and check the IMEI. New London is not the place for blindly trusting people.

this is the link- http://newlondon.craigslist.org/mob/3176559153.html
and the person wants 140-150$ for it...
i have his email, facebook link...
he seemed fine in conversation...
anyone who would like to get it for me, i'd add about 20-30$ for them...
All I will say is be careful. I grew up in NL my whole life and only have been out for the last 4 years. Finding someone to do it from there to Stamford will be a long run for them.
Good luck

Don't take this wrong but I trust very few. Like few enough I can count on one hand with fingers to spare.
I will ask around when I get up as it is a 4 hour diff from here and most of the people I knew have moved.
Even odder is you trying to find help getting a blackberry in an android forum or on XDA at all as we don't support BB lol

[Q] Question about possibility of community bounty on 4.3 stock eploit

I know this is probably a long-shot but I've been tempted to throw a childish fit ever since I updated to 4.3. I'd killed my ROM while trying to flash CM11 and I had to go back to stock in order to put things right. Little did I know, Verizon had a sneaky trick up their sleave. I hadn't kept up to date on the news for my phone and I took the 4.3 update. I bet this sounds really familiar for many people. I'm personally willing to contribute USD50 to a community-driven bounty on the exploitation of this new lock because I'm fed up with terrible battery life and many other things. I'm personally not sure how to set this up or organize it. I'm just interested to see if there's a demand large enough for this.

Go and put that money up for the Verizon s4 unlock bounty. Chances are if they get a exploit we will be able to use it or modify it for our use. But I can tell you right now a bounty for the s3 will be a waist of time.

I hate to say it but even the s4 bounty is a waist of time because it had a exploit that got patched. But not enough people updated to that patched boot loader to really care.

I mean if you really want to know, there's over a $6000 bounty (Verizon only), I think AT&T is also over $5000 to unlock the bootloader. Trust me, anybody who's capable of doing it is either working on it already or simply can't do it. If the bootloader gets cracked on one of those devices, the method would probably trickle down to the s3. Also, people pledge money all the time but never pay up. Developers know this and don't necessarily work on the exploit simply for the money.
The developers who are trying to work on this wouldn't post relevant information anyway in a public forum. Any progress on this would be completely hidden from anybody to ensure the integrity of the exploit.

I know when the s3 came out I put up a fund me project and the money would go to Adam Outler to get our boot loader unlock and or work around. He came through but I don't think he'd revisit our phone when the issue is so small. Most of us on here are unlocked and will never take the OTA.

To be clear, Adam did not unlock the S3 bootloader. Nobody did. Adam was provided a leaked bootloader from a pre-release S3. He even said so in his bootloader unlock thread in the original dev section. Not taking anything away from Adam because I and countless others are entirely thankful for that feat.

Right, he did package together CASUAL which is still being used right now I think? Which at the time was a great tool because it was cross-platform. Someone on here donated all $600 to adam which I thought was cool.

What does this have anything to do with unlocking a bootloader?

hahaha great minds think alike :good::good:
Well, from the looks of it I'm going to have to either buy a new phone or sit tight. The only reason I'm hesitant in changing phones is because the S3 has a much larger apreture than any other phone I've seen xD However, I'd love to find something to help my battery life. Maybe it's time to look at XPosed. Thanks everybody.
