Omg no!!! Phone is self updating!!! - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

It is 1.85 I woke up and is updating?! it wont stop no matter what I try.
HELP!! STOP THESE MADNESS!!!
IT's at 50% now!!!

I had to Hard reset at 91% and restore factory settings.
It saved it at least... but have to redo all the phone again...
Now I'm not sure why my phone hour is not right and I can't fix this.
Anyways I had no choice, I didn't had my phone rooted yet.

yeah thats the reason i just rooted and unlocked the bootloader, i got sick of that and understood that it would just update if i didnt do anything. Spend a couple of hours and do it and load Viper and never worry again. If you already have to set up your phone again, do it on a nice rom

Totally different things .... Sim unlock and bl unlock are different...with 1.85 go find one of the 1.85 root methods follow instructions root it and than look the bl unlock thread in our development section and get your bootloader unlocked .. than download goo manager and flash twrp
---------- Post added at 02:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:07 PM ----------
Again NO need to get a new similar actually it will do nothing bbut waste your earned money

Ok I'll admit it...
I snuck behind enemy lines today and pushed the big red update button today.
I was jealous of those of you with 1.85. I'm sorry

But 1.85 can be rooted, or did that get patched up as well. Thought only 2.20 was not root-able.

Anybody still on 1.73 I recommend updating to 1.85.....had some fixes and its perfectly safe for rooting and unlocking

Lost my chance... now I have to wait for the 2.20 exploit.
Oh well...
I am dumb doing all these things on my own.
I have no idea how I was able to do it when I had my HTC Tilt.
It kept popping the update add and today it said after 8 hours it will update automatically.

i'm pretty sure the ota doesn't force itself.
why didn't you go ahead and root/unlock? it only takes a few minutes to root, unlock, recovery, rom.

If you can't do one clicks on your own...umm.... I.guess 2.20 is the rom for you

At the moment I started working on this, my connection got terrible bad and lost it.
I was also having trouble with the clock settings and every time I changed it it asked me about the update.
And then it told me that next time I pospone it it will force to update.
So... no internet yet and I was pissed off because the date settings where not correct and trying to fix it... It began to update in a black screen and a harddisk and I couldn't do anything at this point.
I thought about forcing it off somehow but I didn't do it in case it could screw all up badly so I had no other choice.
Anyways... I can wait until 2.20, The programers always find their ways to exploits so I'm sure it will happen soon

Root and unlock the bootloader while you still can. Then you can flash whatever stock or custom ROMs you want. You'll always be ahead of the curve compared to those unrooted/locked, and never be jealous again. There are stock and custom ROMs already based on 2.40 and 2.41 now.

[Q] How Long Does 1.85.502 take to flash?

I rooted and unlocked stock RUU (1.73 something). Then I fastboot oem lock the device. So the bootloader is locked. THen I begin to flash 1.85 and the window has been displaying the "Sending" dialougue for half an hour. What should I do now? I think the RUU isn't working.

Thanks for the reply. I was just flashing, but a power outage hit my computer while the file was "sending". I freaked out, but luckily the phone still works still on 1.73. Are there any things I need to do before the 1.83 that I didn't do before? I'm going to try it again. The taste of custom ROMs is too good to live without (I came from an Atrix (awesome devs))

You might want to flash from a laptop. Losing power is the last thing you want to do during a flash and could potentially brick it if it were to fail.

Yeah, luckier this time. Finally finished flashing. Took about 2 or three hours. Maybe more. I feel so happy those nervous breaths are finally over! Thanks for all of your time.
It took me 10min to flash, but the whole process took me all day. My goal was achieve root and unlocked status and it was a success.

Trouble downloading new update

Hey guys I'm having trouble downloading the update (I know, shocking... who would want the update my issue is is that I first tried to download the update when my battery was below 35%. It said that there was an update available but I had to wait until I battery was above 35%. now that it is above 35%, when I click on the check for updates button, literally nothing happens. no dialogue no confirmation... nothing. I've already rebooted the phone and tried to clear the cache for the updater app. any suggestions? I know for Motorola phones there is a way to install the updates manually... anything like that for HTC? I'm not rooted or unlocked.

Set your date ahead 2 days and try again.
Why do you want the update. Honestly there's no reason to want it. YAY you lose root and probably can't get it again and furthermore you can get all the features the update gives in a rom.

Actually, as long as you were rooted and unlocked before, you're fine.

So I set the date forward 2 days, it discusses the update, then I got a dialog with a spinning circle saying "verifying update" with an "ok" button. I clicked the button and the dialog disappeared. Now I can't get it to reappear or download the update again. I keep setting the date forward two days and it says there's an update available but it never downloads.

I wouldn't recommend updating yet. I was having a hell of a time getting TWRP to work properly to the point of destroying my sdcard forcing me to RUU back to stock. Until a Recovery fix or Root for 2.20 is found I wouldn't update.

yes, currently software version 1.85 is rootable. i would strongly recommend staying away from any ONE-CLICK rooting methods, as you may inadvertently OTA yourself. one click asks you to check for updates, but back then there wasn't an update to be found. if you do one click, and you do begin to update, quickly run a factory reset to get out of the OTA
once you OTA, you can never root or unlock your phone. (that's what happened to me)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709424
I disagree with the other poster. Sure, you're going to check for updates, and if the one-click root does not work, it will start to download the update. The update is 100's of mb, so you have plenty of time to go and manually change the date in your settings. Just add two days. This will immediately confuse the server, and it corrupts the download and stops right away. Then try the root process again. It took me many tries of adding two days (got somewhere near the end of August), but low and behold, it finally was successfully.
Also, at any point feel free to do a factory reset and start again. All of the people's recent experiences are near the end of the thread I posted above.
FYI, I did this 3 days ago on my phone.

[Q] a couple of rooting/unlocking questions

Hey everyone,
I'm kind of a noob when it comes to development for the HOX and HTC in general; I previously had a Galaxy S II and it was incredibly easy to root and flash custom roms. I just had a couple of questions regarding rooting for the HOX:
1. I'm currently on 1.85, and I know that means I can still root. However, the 2.20 update hasn't even popped up on my phone. Also, whenever I check for updates, it just returns to the previous screen, like there's no update available. Does this mean I can still root using the 1.85 one click exploit?
2. How "safe" is rooting/unlocking the bootloader on the HOX? I know unlocking the bootloader is not officially supported on the AT&T version, and that you have to get SuperCID in order to unlock it. With all this modification, is it pretty safe to root and unlock the HOX? I really don't have the money to spend on another phone if I somehow brick it lol.
Thanks!

Good to know, thanks! I thought it might still work but wasn't sure. I see... What would be an example of a soft brick? I've read that if a problem occurs, you can run an RUU to restore it to factory default. Also, I don't have much experience with ADB either lol. I've read Gunnyman's primer though.

New to Inspire

Hey guys, I just picked up a Inspire as a play toy since my cousin upgraded.. What in looking for is a RUU for the latest update if there is any.. 2.3.5, firmware 3.20 if I'm not mistaken. (Its not in front of me at the moment).. I've tried numerous sites and it seems as though they don't exist anymore..
Quick history, phone worked fine. Bone stock, never rooted or unlocked. So she took the latest update, and ever since then it has problems... Main thing is when the screen goes black, it reboots. EVERY SINGLE TIME. So I decided to unlock via htcdev, fastbooted twrp 2.4.4.0, and flashed a rom to see if it fixed it. Flashed jellytime and respective gapps, no dice. Phone is still rebooting upon locking. Last resort is a ruu... I've tried over clocking, overvolting, etc... No go. I'm not ruling out hardware 100%, but bc it didn't do this before the update makes it last on my list... Any advice?

Hey thanks man. I'll give that a shot .
One more question, if I flash the stock lower firmware zip, would that be enough to run the aahk to s-off? Or is there more to it than that? Last time I tried it said the firmware was not supported up to that version

I wouldn't recommend flashing a lower firmware.... Not sure if anything bad will happen but it does not seem like a good idea. Besides, aahk has been retired. There is no support for it and it is only for advanced users.
You can try glevitans tool in the development section to unlock your bootloader but he two has left these forums due to too many self rightious (or however you spell that) noobs.

Hopefully someone could give a few more opinions before I throw this thing in the trash can... I'm still having the reboot issue... I can use it for hours on end as long as the screen is on. It will stay on if its connected to any power source... But when its not plugged in and the screen locks it reboots about 3 seconds later...
Didn't do this before I took the 2.35 ota.. I've tried 15 different ROMs, different kernels, I tried overclocking and trying to get rid of deep sleep. Don't know what else to do. I'd love to try to raise the voltage but every kernel/ROM I use doesn't give me that option.
Also I'd like to mention when I boot into bootloader it immediately searches for pd98img.zip. is this normal? I never seen another boot loader look for a certain file..
Anyway, any help will be appreciated... I'd hate to get rid of this phone if its fixable...
