[Q] Best forum for question about phone problem? - General Questions and Answers

I have never really been clear on which forum I should use when I have a question regarding a problem with my phone. Specifically, I have a Samsung Epic 4G Touch, an Android phone. I am having a problem with not being able to view logcats. I'm sure the best place to ask about something like this would be in the Epic 4G Touch Q&A forum (which is where I posted my question). However, I have often wondered if it is best to ask such a question in the Android Q&A forum, because, while I might expect the best answer from my device specific forum, using a device specific would greatly reduce the number of views of my question and someone with a different phone may be able to provide an answer to my question.
Additionally, I understand that we are not supposed to ask the same question more than once, but if my question goes unanswered for several days in the device specific forum, is it acceptable to reask the question in the general Android Q&A forum?
Any advice you can provide regarding this is much appreciated!

It's usually best to ask in your device's Q&A forum. If no one responds after a couple days, you may bump the thread (no more than once every 24 hours). Most likely you will receive help, even if it takes several days. If it becomes clear no one will help you there, I'd PM a moderator to ask about posting the same question in General Q&A which receives more traffic, but the downside is less people knowledgeable specifically about the Epic 4G Touch will see it. Hope that helps.

Request: New Forum

Hello,
While the thread for questions in the Development forum seems to be an o.k. idea, I believe that there should be an entire forum dedicated to questions. The questions thread seems to have become a mess, with a ton of discussions all mixed into one giant thread.
I think that an entire forum should be dedicated to just questions and answers, instead of just one thread. Shorter threads allow users to find information more quickly, and also makes information easier to find in a search.
I don't know if this is the completely wrong place to post this or not, but I just think that this needed to be seen, and that things could be made more simple and easy.
YES! great idea (no sarcasm)
we totally need this. people don't know where to post their question and they end up posting in either development (Where its not supposed to be) or the thread of the program that they need help with (where it never gets answered)
BRILLIANT!
Any moderators thoughts on this?
isn't the whole forum concept about asking and answering...
there is no need for aditional forums
why would you ask questions about eg artemis in some "qestions forum" when you can ask it in the artemis forum, where others have artemis and experience with it
i mean i get bugged by questions that are asked 1000times but the new forum would be useless

The "General" forum has so many hits because many users have dealt with multiple devices. So, if there was in fact a "General Questions" forum, the Development & Hacking thread wouldn't become so cluttered with random questions, along with the sticky thread.

Raphael Questions & Answers: All in one thread, or all in a new subforum?

So, should questions and answers remain in a single thread as they are now, or are they better of in their own Q&A subforum, with a separate thread for each topic?
Yes I know this is a new thread but I think it qualifies for one
this is gonna get merged into that big thread!!!
i think it should be a sub forum because:
1) the links don't redirect you to the post, it only takes u to the thread, which is huge
2) sometimes the answer is 10 pages behind the question, completely out of order
There is already an extire Q&A subforum. There are a lot of very wonderful users helping out over there. We probably wouldn't even need a Q&A thread here if people would just post their questions in a thread that already addresses the topic, or actually search before starting a new thread. Either way, this topic has been addressed before, and we're not gonna add device specific Q & A subforums at this point.
It's not hard to see which way this poll's gonna go!
It realy should be a sub forum, but it don't need to be a device spesific subforum. As long as the question have a tag for what device it's about.
The problem with the long Q&A thread is that it's impossible to search up anything in it. You can search and find someone that have asked the question you wanted to ask, but there is no way of searching where the answer is.
I do see some benefit in one long Q&A thread, that is to ask stupid question that most other forum users know, but if it's a more difficult question that only a handfull of member can answer it needs to have a own thread.
As it was pointed out one of the most important thing to do is to make sure everyone makes good topics for their threads. If someone make a thread called "Help, it doesn't work" they should be banned for like a week.

There already is a Q & A subforum, so i'm not sure why everyone keeps asking for one. As for the Q & A Thread, I think people forget that it's not intended to be a resource like the wiki. I created it as a safe place where users can ask the same silly questions as many times as they need to. Most of the time if users had really searched then they would't be creating new threads constantly anyway, but rather they'd find the answer or post in another thread on a related topic. I think a lot of the confusion is caused by people thinking that the Q&A thread is supposed to a searchable resource. IMO if the answer isn't really eays to find in the Q&A thread you should just ask it again. I have tried to monitor the responses to make sure people aren't flaming users for now searching, as that thread is a flame free zone.

Is There a Better Forum for Q&'s?

Is there a better forum to go to for how to questions that might be moderated a little better? My KaosFroyo question has never been answered and I see many questions on here with no replies.
Many times when a question goes unanswered, it has been answered before. So, the best advice I have is to use the search function to look and see if someone has answered your question before.
This is a large site and most questions are not new and have been answered multiple times in the past. Also, how you phrase your question and what kind of info you provide will help (such as phone model and software versions, under what conditions the issue happens, etc...).
Edit: Looks like you flash the update through recovery.

[Q] Can no longer post in development forum

I am no longer able to post questions or respond to questions in dev forums. What am I missing here?
I tried to post on a HTCHD2 forum and the message I got was if you have less than 10 total posts, you aren't allowed to post. I found that very frustrating as I (i) had an answer for someone (which was educated) and (ii) couldn't ask a very specific question about a significant problem I was experiencing with the mod. So, now I'm trying to post 10 "meaningful" posts...argh.
Gents,
The rule was put in place for very specific reasons, in that new members were spamming the develpoment forums with questions that if they had bothered to search would have found the answers.
This nuisance was putting developers off; i mean what good is a develepor forum without developers???????
The correct place for questions is the Q&A forum NOT developer forums. You should ONLY be posting there if you are a contributing to the thread/development or be dev'ing yourself.
Trust this explains why, enjoy the forums and please be aware of what you are posting where.
Cheers.
Tim.
Thanks, and I do understand the thought process. But, it's discouraging to see people with 300+ posts that are posting ill-educated and noobish questions, while I couldn't post a question which was valid and I had done my research...even the developers are sometimes poor about how the threads are used. By the way, likely most of the users here are gents, but not me...:> After posting some thoughtful replies elsewhere, I was finally able to post on the "proper" forum. I do think you are getting a lot of questions in the general Q&A which would best be addressed in the proper forum, but they can't post there...Anyway, have a great day!! And, thanks for replying to us.
Okay, so you would rather questions in the Q&A section rather then in the threads dedicated to the ROMS?

The rule had said that it was applied to users that joined after a certain date but members that have been here for awhile but acquired new posts were also affected when it was put into place.
i have some questions about developing roms and i'm willing to learn and get started.
i posted my question in the Q&A Forum 19 Vies now answers on page 2 allready.
My question are directly pointed to develop roms for samsung galaxy tab. so the dev's who could help getting me started have to read but they can't since they won't look in here.
Great ^^
Frustrating because frequently no replies. For example, I posted a question - 77 views, 0 replies. However, at least I can now post on the relevant forum! LOL.
have a great day...
Hey Guys n Gals,
Let me make this clear for avoidance of doubt.
Device specific forums generally have their own Q&A section, so if it is device specific, ask it in there.
If it isnt device specific ask it in here.
Dont ask general questions in developer forums for example "how do i root my xxxxxx" , they will get moved to Q&A or at worst deleted.
These are the rules, they are here for everyones guidance and to prevent dev forums from being cluttered with n00b questions.
Trust this makes things crystal clear, if not feel free to pm me.
Cheers.
Thread Closed.

Unfair penalty

In the description under GENERAL it STATES 'General discussion, tips, Q&A, ETC., UNDER. Q&A it reads questions about ATT HTC one x.
So I posted a question about TWRP and flashing. That is a general question whose answer relates to the TWRP and flashing procedure of custom ROMS, whose answer would be applicable to any phone.
One, I believe I was correct in my placement,
Two, it's kinda sad someone saw fit to make an issue,
THREE I KNOW THIS IS IN THE RIGHT SPOT.

Q&A is for any questions. This is indicated by the title of "Q&A". Seems quite straight forward to me?
Generally all questions should go in the Q&A forum. I realise that the description for General does state "..., Q&A..." but this is a little misleading, and Q&A is the place for it.
I'm going to close this now as it's redundant.
EDIT: I see you recived an infraction for this. Let me look into that.
