I dropped my three-week old HTC one X on driveway by accident. The screen was shattered like a spiderweb. So I ordered a HTC One X screen/digitizer replacement from Amazon.
Today I tried to follow each step described in youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceHw6mezG60). In the last step when tried to separate glass screen from LCD, the LCD was ruined.
The glass and LCD were glued very tight. In my opinion, it is almost impossible to separate them safely. There are some differences in cables and connectors between the US version and the one showed in youtube (i assume it is the international version). There is one cable in the AT&T version that is very hard to disconnect.
Just to be clear, I consider myself very handy in electronics. I hope you can learn from my lesson. Tomorrow, I am going to send the phone to HTC repair center. Since I voided the warranty by disassembling it. I have no idea how much they will charge me.
i learned my lesson on this with a friends Inspire 4G...I have changed many many iphone screens, but the Inspire was a whole different ball game, and i would expect the One X to be even worse.
You are right, pay someone to do it.

Why don't you just order the whole LCD/digitizer/glass module? And of course the things gunna be hard to separate, you need to heat it up A LOT to loosen the glue

Agreed
I learned my lesson with iphone/ipad digatizers. Of course its less than half the price for just the digi but the lcd/digi combo is definitely the way to go. If you do get it separated you have a lot of cleaning to do to get all the old glue/glass off and they are much harder to get back together than you would think. Also invest in a good set of tools. The tools are garbage that they send with the parts.

A screen is about $50, and a screen/LCD combo is at least $180. If I knew it was so hard to separate, I would probably order the combo. Another concern is, I am not really sure that the LCD/glass combo from ebay is as good as that from HTC.
Fyi I had HTC replace my cracked screen. They also replaced the housing (new case, yay) for some reason. They had it for two days plus 3 days shipping time to get it back. Total cost was $220. I'm handy in electronics but seems this is the way to go for now based on costs for the full assembly. They really had great service through the process and you can track the repair online.

Oh how I wish I saw this thread before..
So I sure did break my digitizer.. and when I tried to replace it, it sure was glued to the LCD, and it did come apart lol. On the brighter side, I got a new digitizer and tools, I ordered an LCD but they shipped the wrong one.. but I will say this, I don't think it's that hard to take apart and reassemble.. aside from everything being glued together, and from what I gather the international version is not this way. Everything seems to make sense. I am starting to get lonely without her working. Sometimes I ADB into her just to say hi, mount my storage and make sure I got everything out just in case I butterfingers it and short something out. So aside from my agreement, here are the lessons I have learned.
1) Have a hair dryer handy, that glue is like concrete.
2) Don't just tug that battery cable out, the wires will come out of a socket (took 2 hours to get em back in)
3) For those of you whose digitizers and LCD's are broke.. "adb shell /system/bin/sdutil ums enable" will mount your storage so you can backup some stuff.
4) That torx screw driver you think you might need, haven't seen a torx screw yet, just loads of glue.
5) Take pictures of stuff before you disconnect it, and how you disconnected it for reference in reassembly.
6) This is the correct part # for the LCD 60H00664-01P, except no substitutes.
7) There are little crystal gluey things on the back of the digitizer that go through the case and transfer light. Don't expect them to fully light up ever again without remembering to move them (if you can)
8) It's worth fixing, sure I pre-ordered an HTC-One, but my One X will remain my phone because I love her, she's my first HTC and by far my best android ever. My HTC-One will be for Dev purposes >
9) Resist the urge to take the heat shield off to see if you can upgrade your storage by some kind of hidden micro sd, even if there is one, I'm sure it's got 5lbs of that crappy glue AT&T insisted upon.
10) If you think you want to change your digitizer just to rid your self of the AT&T logo, It's not worth it, I'm in it for 18$ for the digitizer and $43.99 for the LCD. Sure it's worth the money, but my sanity is long gone, I will name my next dog sanity.
You guys are the best ever! Good luck! God Speed!

I think I might do this if AT&T doesn't let me take my upgrade early to the One. So you would recommend HTC to do this? Just out of curiosity, was your phone rooted/romed when you sent it in? How long ago was this done for you?

Are you not enabling auto brightness?
Well..
Not that if he can't do it no one can, but the threshold of glue being heated to separation vs. the heat destroying the lcd is so close.. and the parts are so cheap to get independantly of one another. In the words of the hunger games.. may the odds be forever in your favor.

Hmm..
LOL figures I would run into a problem like this, new screen stops the phone from booting, old screen fires up the phone, if i plug in the new one while its running, the new one works fine, if i restart, back to death.. i could reassemble with it still running and pray i never need to restart my phone, but that would be messed up.. any ideas?
I've never had problems with it. Even while drinking. Just apply heat, then pull. If it doesn't come that easily, then it isn't hot enough or hasn't heated evenly.
Btw the combo fpr screens and digitizer rins $50-75 on eBay

Hello
Alright, so I had my lcd digitizer combo replaced, since the glass was broken. At first the lcd didnt work because it was AOM or something like that and wasnt Sharp's model like originally, but i syncded it as follows:
1.Took out the battery
2.Connected the old screen
3.Put back your battery
4.Start your phone
5.Wait about 2min to be sure
6.Take the old screen and replace it by the new
7.Press power button
8. Should be running and working.
But now.. after assembly it does detect the sim card, but gets no signal, so i cant make calls go to internet etc.. But wlan however does work ?
is there something I broke in the progress or ..
Hoping for some help, thanks

Sure sounds like you didn't re-connect the cell antenna correctly. Those ribbon cables are a *****. Could also be the little EMI tabs that come off of the blue antenna PCB and connect to the case, I would think (just guessing, as I'm staring at my disassembled phone right now).

Hey everyone,
I recently bought my HOX at my local AT&T store about a month ago and managed to drop within the first 2 weeks I had it, and break both the glass and LCD. I went on ebay and bought both the LCD and glass together and installed it on my phone with no luck. Screen is totally black with no response. Everthing else works flawlessly, vibrator, capacitive buttons, and speaker. The aftermarket LCD screen's cable was straight so I had to make a fold in it like the original cable was. I worry that that might be what the problem is, though I highly doubt it. I would appreciate it greatly if someone could give me some advice on what I should do at this point. Return the LCD and glass or try something else. Thanks

Welcome, search the forum. Long story short, call HTC and have them fix it for ~$220
If you signed a contract when you bought the phone and are still within 30 days, I would just have AT&T add insurance to your line and make a claim for it.

Try both the old one and the new one without placing it into the housing...
The problem you will face most is with the LCD strip which has to be inserted fully in the slot..
Which is very difficult to do so and needs lots of time on it...
see some Replacement videos on Youtube. It do show you step by step guide on replacing the LCD..
Just place the battery and all the connectors and try powering it on b4 inserting it into the housing..

Yeah i think the new LCD is broken. With a flashlight i can see Android on the screen
So i think the backlight is broken. So i will repair the phone with a new Display and Digitizer Unit. Right?
I tried the same thing, but mine was just the glass. Forget about trying to separate LCD from glass, really you are not that skilled (any of you!). anyway, It was about 45 days after receiving my HOX and I called ATT and just told them what happened and that my phone was in 1000 pieces, said I now have a contract and no phone (though I was much more miserable and depressed sounding at the time). She said "no problem, I will just toss out this old contract and we will start from scratch" It cost me another $99 but they sent me a brand new phone. I was shocked. First time a carrier ever made me smile (other than running LTE Speed Tests)

There must be a hole between lcd screen which let an ant to go under it. Im sure that hole will cause some dirt to go inside as well which later can create something like a dust cloud inside. Have you been to the store to see if it is under warranty? And what they told you?
Supposedly the screen should be sealed. I think! Or not!
Just contact Samsung and ask them what you should do. Obviously this should not be possible.

I'll attempt blowing some can air into the speaker grill. If that fails ill contact Samsung cuz I bought this from amazon.
if it's still eligible to return, send it back to amazon and just say that it wasn't working properly and you'll get a replacement in a day or so.
ask me how i know....lol.

Could have got in the micro sd slot and crawled around. I worked in the field years ago for a cable company, a lady called in and said her cable box LED display was cutting off numbers so 8's looked like 3's and so on. I went to here house and noticed about 20 roaches inside her box!

Wow that's bad. I would not want to touch anything in that house. Would have to disinfect like the biochemist do.
Hold a vacuum cleaner hose up to wherever you think he got in and maybe it will suck him out?
the memory card slot has always been covered...and i honestly cant see him crawling in through the speaker grill. its way too tiny
Maybe the charging port? Either way tablets are not air tight, and the ant got in.
Pretty sure Amazon can work with you as well, I have always had good customer service experiences with them.

hello all looked every where seen similar ? but know answers any where .....have mt4gs that wont turn on just vibrates once was having problems with screen stuff looked distorted rainbow colored or screen not responding would have play with phone like slide keyboard in and out to get working again .....couldnt get to work pulled out battery put back in wouldnt start up.......same thing happen to the one before that similar prob still have it does same thing vibrates once........from what i gather from other posts is it might be flex cable have it apart flex cable looks fine ...would i be able to see if flex cable is messed up......... could it just be something came loose.......these are both factory oem no mods ...
If it's still under any kind of warranty I'd send it back with a note to quit returning the same phone to you. If you CAN send it, put a small indelible mark under the battery so you can check. If it's NOT covered you could theoretically fix it yourself if you're "electronics repair" inclined but it's not for the faint of heart....i.e., not easy.
If they try to SELL you another, you can get them on Ebay for half of what they'll try to sell you one for. For what they'll try to sell you one for, you can buy a Nexus 4 from google that's unlocked.....with enough change to take your GF out for a nice meal. A REALLY nice meal.
no warranty , not new to electronic repair or modding ....have two of these phone dont want to throw them out ..especially if it only needs and 18 dollar flex cable ...which would be cheaper than buying any used phone....... trying to find some info first so i dont waste money on flex cable for no reason ...ps phone is totally apart..........i think phone is turning on but nothing happens with screen and screen was buuging out when stopped working both times on both phones ..... any ideas thanx

There are a few ways, usually the manufacturer is stickered on the back or product number. If you can't find this there is a line indented across the back of one and not the others

This forum is dedicated to the MT4GS. Your description indicates the MT4G. Different devices.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
It started out simple. At first, the screen would cut off when I closed the keyboard sometimes...and then all the time. Next, the touch screen stopped working. Afterwards, the screen would freeze occasionally. Now, I can't see the screen at all.
I'm not ready to give up on this phone yet. I'm just not sure if it's a digitizer and sensor, or the flex cable issue. Does anybody have a clue?
90% need a new flex, be sure to get one with the speaker soldered on to make life easier and take your time reading before disassembly, lots o sticky stuff there

If both the LCD and digitizer are having problems (with no signs of external or water damage), I'd suspect the flex cable as well.
Thanks!
I thought so, but I was in denial. I've only ever replaced digitizers, so I was hoping I just had to do something like that again.
By the way demkantor, what's the other 10%?
9% digitizer going bad and then soon after LCD, 1% software/firmware issue 90% get a new flex. So if it were me id buy the flex, or at least open it up and have a peek around

Changed my flex two times by now, first time lcd showed color noise, second time touch died.
First time there were rips on the flex, second time - nothing particular.

My MT4GS has just gone blank after 3 years of continuous use. Screen went random colour pattern, then totally black, though phone is still working fine behind it.
I've done a search, but places like http://www.etradesupply.com/htc/android-models/htc-mytouch-4g-slide.html suggest there are two - a motherboard flex and a slide rail flex that look very similar but are two different prices. I'm a long way from USA, so spares take a long time to ship and are expensive. Can anyone recommend a supplier/specification so I get the right one? Help much appreciated. Thanks.
In the link you sent those are one in the same, can't say why the prices differ but one may have speaker and one not, I'm on mobile so its hard to zoom in and tell.
As for supplier I'm in the us and have just purchased from random eBay people before so I can't say what's best for you
Also note it is possible you're LCD is bad (but bless likely the cause) if you are to get one of these know which one you have first (there are a couple out there and aren't interchangeable)

Thanks - reading other posts on other threads (inlcuding one guy who posted a picture of exactly the last thing I saw on my screen before it went black (-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092608)) seems to point to the flex. That post also has a link to an ebay sale, but the picture has been taken down so I've only got the name to go on. And of course that doesn't match what I can but other places so I'm just guessing at the moment..
Is it the main motherboard flex? Perhaps I'll have to strip the phone at the weekend and see if I can work it out... Oh well, another thing to add to the To-Do list. No wait, that's on my phone and I can't get at it!
