So I've been having some weird battery drain the past couple of weeks. I have been trying to watch it and try to find the source of it but cannot seem to nail it down. I dont get that spectacular of battery life overall. First off, I am running zeus v6 with kl2 modem and nothing else done and no overclocking. Battery drain seems high overall, but above 50% battery its not too bad, however once it gets below about 50% battery the drain noticeably increases. Today for example, I unplugged my phone at about 8am, light usage pretty much all day, at 4 or 430pm it was about 50%, I get out of class at 7pm and the battery is down to 20%. Only thing I noticed was that I turned wifi on and left it on but it was connected to a network the whole time so its not like it was searching for a network. I had only about an hour of screen time, maybe a bit more. Its like this every day no matter what I do. I rarely get over 12hrs of battery life. I even got a new oem battery 3 or 4 weeks ago to see if that help but it hasnt much. I'm starting to wonder if it might be related to my phone that I just dont get as good of battery life? Not sure what to think, Im going to try flashing another GB rom in the next couple of days to see if that changes anything. I will post some screenshots of my battery life later tonight for you guys to look at. Let me know if there is anything else you want to know. Anyone else experiencing weird drain like this?

I had tried the two most recent versions of Zeus, and had unbelievably high battery drain. No WiFi or GPS use at all. If I was actively using the phone, my battery power would drop at roughly 1% every minute or two. And that's with screen brightness turned all the way down. Even with the screen off, it was pretty bad. I'd lose something like 7% an hour, with the phone sitting unused. I had basically the same results with Saurom. I pretty much just chalked it up to something within the ROMs themselves. I get great battery life with stock GB, CM7.2, and Paranoid Android JB.
I was reading that thread you posted qkster and it didn't really seem to be having the same issues as were in that thread. It's more just like no matter what I do the battery drains normally above 50% but below that it drains way faster even with less usage and not doing anything different.

My posts in that thread contained more links to other bigger threads and user experiences.
I was not offering a solution but only the means to one, if you are looking...
Alright, I'll look a bit deeper into that thread then and see what else I can find in there.

I was just wondering why there are so many complaints about the battery life on the s3...right now I'm on aosp pure Google and with 18 hours on the battery for the day I'm at 87%...This is pretty average with most of the aosp Roms I have used...I turn of WiFi and 4g unless I'm using them and I have a few battery tweaks in my init.d and build.prop that are on just about every site that is android related and are pretty easy to apply... If .7 % per hour is really something to complain about then get a junky flip phone...you should be able to get like 3 days out of that...battery drain is going to happen when you basically have a handheld laptop with the power and capabilities the s3 has...Just sayin

A lot of people here are considered in the 'heavy usage' category, which the stock battery drains quickly. For me, I could drain the battery in 5-6 hours easily. And fyi the time the phone is on matters very little, it's all about screen on time. With my extended battery I get 8-10 hours of SCREEN ON which is the most important aspect, glad the stock battery works okay for your usage, everyone is different.

Geeez...what are you doing to kill an extended battery like that? I get that much while playing games and using my browser...i am also over clocked at 2106mhz...i wonder if there a lot of these going out with bad batteries...i see more complaints from people getting drain with screen off than on

Unfortunately I believe you're confusing uptime with the amount of time the screen is on, I can guarantee you do not get 8-10 hours of the screen being on in a single charge with the stock battery, even at the lowest brightness setting. Post screen shots of those two screens when you get that much, I'd love to see it! That was only my 3rd cycle with the 4400 mAh battery, it's even better now, I just haven't taken any new screen shots.
Oh, and my brightness was at 50-75% that day.

So i was wondering if anyone else have noticed the battery drain in cyanogenmod10, i know that there's an issue with that, but i didn't find any tread about that, and i wanted to know what is considered to be, well let's say normal drain in that rom. . I didn't want to start a whole new thread, but thats life. You learn from the others.
Since no one have said anything, here is what mine - charged it on sunday, it last till today with normal usage, made phone calls over gsm, 3g video calling with skype ,normal internet browsing over 3g and over wifi, such as posting in the forum, readig news downloading files and also playing games for 30 min, wich was the reason to charge it ( from 27 % to 14 - in 30 min playing fifa). So i've noticed something else, my charging time now is less, i used to charge the tablet from around 7-9 hours, sometimes even more , and now it was charged for 4-5 hours.,
I think that battery drain is something really difficult to follow. You better install some application like cpu spy, better battery stats or such and present us with number and use patterns, so we can see if something is wrong.

Ок since last night when i charged now is on 83 percent and better battery stats indicates that the android os is used 42,71 %, screen -25 %, cell standby- 14,15 , idle6,19 , android sys - 4 % and all other stuff is les tha one pecent each. Is it normall drain or the cyanogenmod is eating out my battery.
Dude, not much of information there. I meant you to use the applications betterbatterystats and cpuspy.
But if you battery decreased that much and pretending you didn't use it at all, that seems something is preventing you tab from deepsleeping, and you may use the apps I recommended to known what.

That's what i've used. I 've used better battery stat pro and all the nfo i got from it was the same as the battery indicator in the android menu, nothing else o and that tapatalk was draining my battery even when it was closed and cpu spy shows that it was in deep sleep 80%
Sent from my GT-P6200 using Tapatalk 2
Play a little bit more with it, betterbaterystats is way more powerful then that. Kernel wave locks, partial wavelocks, cpu states, process and such.
Do some tests, stress tests and comparations, there are a lot of stuff between cyanogen and heavy battery drain. To assume it is cm is one of late things you do.

So far, I've owned 3 Android phone, and all of their battery sucked. I owned an Evo 4g, HTC Rezound, and I had 2 Galaxy S3's. Even with Extened battery, the battery won't last as long as an iPhone. And it doesn't stop here. It takes FOREVER to fully charge the battery only to find out that it gets depleted super fast. On the S3, I would be at 20% at the end of the school day, but with an iPhone, I end up around 60% with the same amount of use. The phones go up 1% after 5 minutes when plugged into a computer, and its annoying. I love Android with all my heart, but I can't deal with this problem. Anyone know of phone that has really good battery life (besides the MAXX)?
An iPhone's battery life is roughly the same in each iteration as a device from the Galaxy series. In fact it's been tested and the Galaxy S III lasted 6 hours and 55 minutes compared to the iPhone 5 which lasted 7 hours and 13 minutes. Both OS's implement battery management very well, and at the end of the day battery life is mainly dependent on user use. You can't expect an Android device to have numerous data hogging widgets as well as numerous background processes active, all while surfing the web with multiple windows open, and not drain just a little quicker than an iOS device that doesn't even utilize true multitasking. Please.
Also: It doesn't last as long as an iPhone "even with an extended battery?" GTFOH. Either your iPhone runs on nuclear material or you're full of sh**.
Why don't you use something like BetterBatteryStats and find out why the battery is being used ?
I get 3-4 hours of screen on time on my S3 with stock battery and kernel, but with some minimal battery-saving settings.
It used to be a lot worse - but I actually investigated and found out what was eating up the battery. I guess I could have just complained about it, but it was a lot faster to just work on finding a solution. I've been really impressed with how long my battery has been lasting lately - and it didn't take all that long to just read the BBS report and make changes.

In my words, its actually depend on your uses. Now a days we have 4"- 5" screen, where lots of processes are running in background. Using Dual Led Flash light for camera & having lots of Games, applications & files. We were used to have phone like NOKIA & BB. Where we just clicked over a button & thats all. But now when You click on screen, whole screen has to be work.
But yes, Few companies has taken it hard & Provided battery like MOTO MAXX.. also few have kernel bugs. So, it totally depend on you buddy, how you take it. Use data connectivity less & check whether your phone is going to Deep sleep / other name as per phone is going or not.
Be realistic with the brightness, keep it on auto don't run it at 100%. Try different ROMs with tweaks. Adjust settings with kernels for a faster battery recharge. Your options are infinte. Maybe android isn't for you.

And still, there's the problem of charging. It just takes too long!

There's an official Google statement that wiping batterie stats won't improve your battery life.
Wiping the stats forces android to recalibrate and calculate the battery stats.

Do you mean the time for one or both batteries ?
I get 3-4 on stock battery - but I always have my screen on the lowest brightness - and sometimes lower (using the Screen Filter app). I'm inside most of the time, so I don't need a very bright screen.
The only time I really lose battery like crazy is if I'm playing Ingress - because then I need to turn the brightness up and GPS is constantly updating so it's not exactly unexpected.

I never seem to have issues with my galaxy s3. You might want to get a battery management ap to see where all your battery is going towards. Or you might just be a heavy phone user and in that case, it wouldn't be the phone's issue...

Hello, I'm currently running cm 9, however the battery life is just awful
When the phone is on sleep it loses like 1 percent every 5-10 minutes
I am using an extended battery as well, please tell me what to do I was on GB before and the battery was outstanding, I could go on one charge the whole day with heavy usage, now i dont think I can make it through the day with light usage on this
thank you
EDIT: This could be a sleep problem, because when the device is on, the battery is normal
If you flashed the Feb 27 cm9 you should flash proton kernel so you can watch videos. Battery life isn't as good as gb no matter what you do. Also give it some time to settle in. It takes more than a couple hours.
alright thank you... I just flashed the newest version of cm9 a few hours ago, I was flashing a bunch of roms and this one seemed the best... do you know how to force a device into deep sleep cause that seems to be the problem i believe
OK I was just on 20 percent, then i rebooted my phone, and now im on 2 percent... im seriously considering going back to gb
Sounds more like a battery thing? With CM9.? + Proton I'm getting at least a day* with light use. Maybe a bad app or combo of apps? What does BBS say is eating the charge?
* - I say at least a day because I can't not use it for that long.

just the screen and the android system... very interesting thing though is happening
I'm running a bunch of quadrants to get the battery down to 0, and the battery is all the way down to 1%, however it's been on 1% for like 6 quadrant tests... maybe its just a problem with the indicator, however another indicator also says it's at 1%... very interesting
If you are on CM9, I suggest you flash Hefe or Proton.
I use Hefe because according to the posts being made it puts your phone into deep sleep, which means longer battery life.

Definitely a battery problem. This happens to me on one of my batteries but not on another. Time to buy a new one. I haven't tested it fully but it does appear to be just a display issue. Sometimes the bad battery will make the phone display 1% but it will still act as if it had way more than 1% charge left. I haven't done any testing on that regard but that's what it appears to do.

I don't believe it to be a battery problem, because I've been on GB with absolutely no problems and exceptional battery... I just upgraded to ics not long ago, and the battery life instantly screwed up
Have you set the cpu governor to anything silly like performance?
Have you let it charge up fully at least once?
Search xda for "better battery stats" app, use it to see if you're getting deep sleep.
Flash hefe over release 8 and youll have a little better battery. Proton doesnt deep sleep
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
Proton DOES deep sleep. That was one of its major features.
Certain scheduler/governor combinations work better on different kernels, though. If the specific one you like most sleeps better on Hefe, great. If the one you like does best on Proton, great. Just be aware that most issues are either physical or user-inflicted...
In this case, your battery is almost certainly dying. The variance in power over a reboot is a definite tell that your battery is probably swollen. If you can spin it on a table, the cells are starting to die. This does not mean you can't keep using it, but it does mean that your battery life will be irregular. It also means that you'll have significantly "higher" battery levels if you reboot the phone with external power connected, but the battery will discharge very quickly if it hasn't actually reached whatever level it believes it should be at.
