Hi !
I found that 128MB RAM for the GPU is too much especially if I dont play 3D games, and 370MB(in CM7) not enough when I use browser or launch much apps in same time.
I think 64M more than enough for GPU, so I will have almost 450MB in the system.
Is there any method to remap RAM, "stole" some RAM from GPU and bring it to the main system?
Any help will be much appreciated.
This would be pretty cool.

I know morfics trinity kernel took some from the GPU, about 30 megabytes to put it at 403 or around there so it probably is possible.

I believe it possible, I've seen kernels for o2x with 64m hack. So there must be some setting which divide ram between gpu and cpu

Thx man, I'll ask in trinity kernel thread about.
I heard thru the grape vine that he tried 424 but it wasn't stable or something so he went back to 403.

You can flash the BFS kernel; it supposedly boosts FPS rates a lot.

+1 The BFS kernel won't change the GPU, but it will allow for faster gameplay on the CPU processing end.
I think I read somewhere decadence or someone was gonna work on the gpu
Ya I read that too. I posted in that section asking about it. But didn't receive any info back. There was a whole topic about how our gpu on another phone was ocerclocked and running 40 fps.

I believe (may not be right about this) that the project to OC our GPUs was abandoned because there wasn't a way to actually do it with our hardware.
I can't seemed to overclock over 1000 ghz. Am I missing anything?

You have to have a kernel that allows overclocking.

Are you using a custom kernel??
If you are use pimp my cpu to oc
G2X
Also, in case you didnt know.. Kernels may state 1.5Ghz and such but that doesnt mean YOUR phone will be able to go that high. Every device is different so every device's has a different max frequency.
Set CPU currently doesn't work with out kernels. You must install one of the OC/UV kernels from the development section and use the pimp my cpu app to overclock

Ok, that makes sense I'm using the EB 1.04F trinity kernel +48 and was using pimp my cpu and I can overclock just fine there but I wanted to try out setcpu out.
I have it over clocked @ 1.2 -50 in all frequencies and scheduler is the default one. Force Min Frequency is checked as well.
Thanks

On a side note, my g2x has been highly unstable after leaving it sit while using pimp my cpu. However, I created a .txt file with clock frequencies and I was able to use setcpu with little to no side effects. But after all, what is ocing even good for? Benchmarks... Mt4g, n1, g1, mt3g, hd2. Tried ocing on all of them and didn't see a noticeable day to day difference compared to stock frequency...

Over clock is good for overall performance.

On the mt4g I was able to play dungeon defenders OCed at 1.5 without much lag. Without it the game was almost unplayable because it would lag like crazy when the graphics got too intense. But on the downside it sucked my battery dry within hours

If I'm going to overclock my phone on cm7 what would be the best speed or should I just leave it and how do I freeze my blot wear
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Ive been using hellfirephoenix rom which is an offshoot of cm7 and i can overclock to 1.5 ghz easy, which is the max safe setting id say for everyday use. You also have to have a kernal which supports 1.5 ghz though such as faux123's kernals.
In order to freeze stuff i use AntTek which you can get on the market its very easy to use. Otherwise you can buy the full version of titanium backup i believe.
Use morfic's kernels. There is no max safe overclock, it's up to what your phone can handle. I am sitting comfortably at 1.6
I read you can use pimp my CPU to overclock but I can't find the app

Yes you can but I couldn't find a link for that on xda. Id say setCpu is still better. Its also free for xda members

You must be blind then, it's on XDA, and it's also free for XDA members. I don't like the UI of it though.
Not blind found it they want you to down load it from the market so its not free

it says on some links that its free for xda members but there's no DL link except to the market.... Sooo ya
Does overclocking have any downside to it? Like more battery drain or something?

less stability is the main issue if you OC too high. if you set the right profiles in setcpu you can actually get much better battery life.

Yes. But combined with undervolting I get better than stock battery life running at 1.6.

I personally use ROM toolbox lite (it's free) to keep from overclocking...I prefer to underclock...
I personally use the "ONDEMAND" CPU governor setting in CyanogenMod, with a minimum clock speed of 200MHz and a maximum of 1.2GHz.
In general, I find overclocking less important to good performance than ensuring software minimalism is maintained. For me, I've noticed RAM consumption will hurt performance much harder than a slow CPU clock speed, and excess RAM consumption is caused by bloated software. Keeping your always-running apps in check will amount to greater performance gains.

Any one clue me in on how to get Ram speeds upwards of 1000 on the Antutu benchmarks? Ive heard of 1100. Thanks
I'm guessing you're looking at overclocking/volting/somethinglikethat. I have no what you'd have to do to overclock RAM on a phone or how quickly that would go badly thanks to lack of active cooling.
if you mean u wana more ram >>>> i think you need new kernel modified
Well, since posting this I discovered custom kernels built for my Captivate that also have kernel mods that can be downloaded to adjust live voltage settings etc. N's tools does it as well with the stock kernel at times with root. Thanks for the replies!
