It's kinda hit or miss. I flashed the HD radio and don't really notice any difference... but that's just me. You gotta try them yourself to see which works.

I've tried three radios from rootzwiki and haven't noticed a difference with either one of them. Im currently running the HD one
Tap'n

Same here. Have to try them all. Not much difference on 4G although I did pick up a couple dBm on HD. May see biggest difference in 3G depending on how old the tower is. 4G towers are newer upgrades so most are pretty much the same on either band.

I could not make a call in my shop with all of the radios except for the HD one. A clear standout for me. (Boston area if that helps)

i notice that the HD modem is slightly better aswell... and i also notice slightly more battery use aswell. Not 100% if its modem related tho...how is your battery life with it?

Seams the same. Though I just switched to lean kernel and am noticing an improvement.

Comparing four s3's from three different radios, all the exact same no matter where I take them in my area.

I feel like my battery is crap but that may be because of aokp. But the HD modem is nice.

Thank you, my findings as well tested 5 times on same phone ....

I have been running the HD with both JB and ICS ROMs and have alway had good signal in both 3g and LTE.

I have tried them all as well. What I have noticed is this, the G7 radio worked better for me after my phone was updated to the G7 base. I tried flashing just the radio and it didn't make a difference at all. I then read Dev Scott C.'s take on how these radios depended on part of the software in the base for them to work properly. No mixing and matching, use the radio to match the base that you are on. I can only say that he is correct with the testing that I did on my phone. Try it for yourself and see, I am curious to see how many just swapped radios and stayed on the same base.

I'm prone to agree with this.
I noticed a nice improvement when I went from G1 to G7 with both Baseband and Build Version. But when I only updated the Baseband from G7 to HD and not the Build Version, I didn't really see any improvement in performance out of my device.

In my experience G7 gave better 3/4G speeds but HD gave me much better batterylife. The G7 had my battery discharging like mad.

I just flashed HD with CWM and went from -90 to -78 on 3g. I don't have 4g in my area, so I can't give updates on that. I'm on CODENAMEandroid 3.6.0.

In my case, one phone is still on G1, the other two took the update to G7 (no flashing, just complete ota). My phone is on HD, but as I said earlier, side by side they are all identical - that's traveling all over Utah and southern Nevada. That doesn't necessarily mean the same thing for any other area - also I did not compare battery life (too many variables) so I have no idea there.
Overall though, it doesn't hurt to try a new radio if you are not sure.

Hd radio and haven't experienced any drops of radio since. 3 days uptime.

Cos some hardware gets better performance on certain radios. And many, if not all, love to experiment with different modems to see what suits them best. I love one with more battery compared to one with more speed.

They're both AT&T modems, the Infuse has never been sold by any other carrier. (That is going to change Tuesday...)
As to them both being the same size, that's common for partition/PROM/firmware raw images. They ARE different - different md5sums.
so what is the difference between the two?

Has anyone checked if there are differences beyond version strings? Then again, I don't see why you'd bother to recompile a modem to release a new firmware unless the modem had changes as well..
Just wanted to say that I've been waiting for new modems to try as the UCKE3 I was using was pretty poor in 3G performance. Where my old Captivate was getting solid 3G signals most of the time, for some reason I wasn't getting the same with the KE3 modem on my Infuse in the same locations and I was somewhat often getting only edge or no signal at all.
Having tried UCKD5 for a little bit, it seems like download speed is better and signal is much more solid so far. Need to do more testing, but I like it alot so far.

Pretty much not possible without major decompiler/disassembler experience.
The radios might even be encrypted.
Most likely E3 has a bunch of bugfixes not present in D5 since it's newer.

That was my gut feeling too... E3 is an improvised version of D5.
Flashed UCKD5 modem
The building I work in is notorious for killing the signal. I flashed the UCKD5 modem yesterday and so far it seems that I have better signal than with UCKE3. Will run this modem for a few days more then will try the other. I sometimes wonder what I'd accomplish if I weren't a phone junkie

[Q] Help deciding on radio version

Hi, I was running CM7 on my Nexus S (I9020T) with Baseband version I9020XXKD1. People always tell me they have a hard time understanding me (muffled). Anyways, I just updated to CM9-RC1 and the problem has persisted. I'm guessing it has to do with the radio.
I updated it to I9030XXKI1 and it's jumping back and forth from 3G to H but both only have one bar. The speeds I'm getting are:
ping 197ms/download 1407 kbps/upload 446kbps
What radio should I be using?
Test them all, results vary by service location.

Thanks! Does it matter which one I choose or should I just start going down the list until I find one that gives me a solid connection?
That's all you can really do. I have used KB3, KD1, KF1, and the latest one from the ICS ota. I haven't really noticed a difference in my area between them though. Just make sure you stick to the i9020t radios!

Well, I tried all of the ones on that page and they all seem to have a low signal. Any other suggestions?
You should run each one for at least a full day. That will let you collect some significant data that will help you decide

[Q] HTC Sensation random reboot & battery drain

Hey,
I had this problem now for very long time (actually more than 1year) and I tried all the solutions that were proposed in other threads specially this one that reduced the number of reboot but not totally
What I remarked is that when the phone is on the edge of the cell on 3G and trying to move to 2G it will automatically reset especially when the battery is below 50%.
I tried locking the phone on 3G and the number of reset has reduced but the downside of this is that I don't have most of the time connectivity (all the way in the metro for example).
Does anybody know if there is custom ROM or Kernel or Radio (I don't which part do control this) that deal with this issue?
I was running ARHD 6.7(and previous versions) with recommended radio till this morning and now I'm on CM9.
I changed the battery to Anker 1700 so the issue is not coming from the battery.
My phone was bought from French Operator Bytel (SN : SH169V..... if it helps)
Sorry for this long Message
Have you tried get Ril? It's an application in the play store that's a great app. It will let you know if your ril is matching your radio, and if it is not matching it recommends and downloads a matching ril. This really helped me a lot. I was getting a pretty weak signal and found out my ril was not matching my radio. Once I downloaded the matching ril, my signal went from one bar to four and five bars! I was pretty amazed on what a difference it made for me. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try and see if it helps you. If not you can also change your radio and ril yourself and see if you can come up with a better signal. Thing with radio is we all live in different areas so it must be experimented with by you because what works for me might not work in your area. You would start by looking in the generic ics radios and matching rils. Remember your radio now so you can return to it if need be. But before I'd change my whole radio do try Get ril. Hopefully it will make a positive difference for you! Also I believe you must be s off to change radio. Don't know if your s on, or off? But give get ril a try and see how that goes. Best wishes. Hope this was helpful.

I tried the App GetRIL and it says RIL/baseband is matching (RIL 4.0.0013HMQ, 11.69.3504.00P_11.22.3504...)
Thanks anyway :good:.
I'm just wondering if it's not a HW or firmware defect on the serie of my phone (no limitation on the power usage during IRAT HO).
BTW I didnt get a reboot with CM9 till now but I'm in well covered area, I will see if it crashes again when i'm on the edge of the cell.
Had exactly the same thing last week, purchased a new battery and now the problem has gone away
Looking at the old battery you could see it was swollen
I picked up a battery new for £5 off ebay
I have already changed the battery and the issue is still happening. Anyway with the new ROM it looks stable so far.
I will test it for some days and see if it will happen again
CM Definitely solved the issue

Yes I tried open sensation myself and although I didn't get rebooting, I had NO data connection!! Have you tried some of the other jelly bean roms? I really like paranoid Android by Dragun. You might want to give it a try? Best wishes to you.

I think I'll try Paranoid Android too then. And that way I'll try JB too.
It's radio Issue
Finally I found what the problem is coming from
Changing the radio to the latest European version two month ago made the phone much more stable with using various versions of CM10.
The version I'm using now is : 11.76A.3504.00_11.24A.3504.31_M with the RIL provided by default in the rom(it shouldn't be impacting)
Hope this will also solve your problem.

I don't think there is a "best" modem for CM10. From what I understand, it depends on your actual device, your distance from towers and your usage patterns (e.g. how often you hop from 3G to 4G). I could tell you my limited experience with various modems and CM10, but it could prove to be unhelpful for your specific case. That said, the G7 modem worked better for me on both AOSP and JB/TW roms. I live in a cellular blackhole and my phone bounces between basic phone service coverage to 3G to 4G. When I was using the latest modem (K1 I think) and an AOSP rom, I don't think I ever saw my phone get a lock on 4G. And TW roms would always say "Network Extender" (instead of Verizon Wireless) on the lock screen.
In short, try 'em out for a day or two and see which one works best for you.
Every radio/modem is going to give every single user a different experience. There is no single "best" one because everybody gets various results. What's "best" for me may not be "best" for you. Only advice i can give you is to try out different ones and if you find that gives you really good results then stick with it, there's no reason to fix something that ain't broken
Okay. Thanks both of you! I live in a cellular black hole too and am very surprised I get to send texts at all because its just my phone,my bros iPhone, and Motorola phones that even get service in my house. I'll try swapping them around a bit starting with the factory one and ending with newest. Thanks!

Signal Strength

Why does the Signal suck so bad on the SIII. I am rooted and running the cleanrom with the latest radio and it still sucks.
I ended up retiring the SIII and went back the Mot RAZR MAXX and wow what a difference.
It doesn't suck for everyone. My call quality is better on this phone compared to my incredible. Dbm's are plus or minus 5 compared to the incredible as well.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Well I tested it side by side in several different places here in Florida and this a good strong signal area and the SIII just can't keep up with the Razr MAXX.
You think I got a dud for a SIII and there is probably nothing I can do about it other than get another phone. I can sell it and buy something else.
It's works great is most areas it's just when you get in the areas where it may down to one or two bars. Hell I had two bars and 3G and it won't even send a text. It will fail sending. I use the MAXX in the same area no issues at all.
I feel the SIII has a weak antenna in it.
For me it's not work using. I want a phone that will work in the areas I am in. I never had an issue until going to the SIII

It's a problem for some. I haven't had it ever switch off 4g. Pretty decent coverage all over Indiana. Moto is famous for their radios, its nice you were able to switch to another phone.
Yea I always keep a couple of extra of phones just for that purpose. I tried turning off the 4g and going 3G only still the SIII sucks in certain areas and the other phones have rock solid service.
I think I am going to ditch the SIII soon and replace it with something else.

Yes I just flashed I535VRBMB1 Radio the other day and it did not help at all...
Please provide links to which radio worked for you.
I am running clean Rom 5.6 right now. Just noticed there is a 6 out now...
So What Radio are you all running that gets good signal?
Just flashed JB Build 12 and if this does not help. This phone will be gone...
Well wiping and flashing JB and the latest radio leak did not really help. The SIII still had issues with signal with the RAZR MAXX did not.
The SIII is nice but not usable to me. Not when you can do a side by side comparison to other device and the SIII can't even keep signal when the other device has three bars.
I don't think the new S4 will be any better.
I might find me a HTC DNA I heard the radio is great in them.
I miss my thunderbolt and good old skyraider... Those were the good old days.

Did you download and install the RPM? I get fabulous reception with my SIII running same SW. I have found that the RPM, helps signal and certainly helps battery life, which makes sense. Try it. Locate and install the RPM that matches your modem.

I had the same issue since moving back to an AOSP ROM (Liquid Smooth). One of the leaked radios, VRMBA2, seems to work the best for me with good pings () and DL speeds ranging from 12Mbps - 34Mbps depending on sig. strength.
I did not try the RPM... I will do that now.
