I'm a little confused on how to do this. I want to flash an RUU as my phone is spazzing out, constant freeze and reboot, it has even done it in fastboot and in recovery. I dont know that an RUU will help, but Im low on options and I just want to try it.
Anyway, when I unlocked the bootloader the first time, I used a script - consequently, I dont know how to get to adb. I am not sure I actually have adb on my computer, as I dont completely understand how the script worked. If I go to the command prompt and try to open adb the way certain tutorials say to do, I can't find it.
Any advice, or a pointer to a good tutorial would be much appreciated.
This is the very reason I hate 1-clicks
Here ya go tho:beer:
Ok download this zip- http://db.tt/5ePa4XV5
Go create a folder on the root of your main hard drive (C:/) named "android".
Unzip the download and stick all the files in it from that folder.
Open up a command prompt and type
cd\
cd c:/android
Now plug in phone booted up, with USB debugging enabled in settings>developer options
Type-
adb devices
Should see devices serial# pop up
Type
adb reboot bootloader
Once bootloader loads up, in red you'll see fastboot usb.
Type
fastboot oem lock
Now your relocked, don't touch the phones just run the ruu. Make sure you run the same ruu version of your phones firmware version
Done

Thank you! Now hopefully I can get it to boot up again, as it's now stopped responding. I had it all the way to the main screen earlier, but now it's being poopy again.

5. send signed hboot to proper partition-
dd if=/sdcard/hboot109.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12
6. Once it's done, resend it-
dd if=/sdcard/hboot109.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12
7. Exit out of shell, type-
exit
exit
adb reboot bootloader
8.wait for bootloader to start and then download-

Thank you, I can't wait to try this after work. However, when I plug in my phone now, nothing happens at all... It doesnt even show up in device manager.
Okay, I took it to work and plugged it in to my USB, and the battery light came on after a while, so I have hope that I will be able to boot at some point. Couple questions though:
1. Will I need to get to the settings and get to USB debugging first, or can I just mount the SD card in TWRP?
2. How do I tell if I have hboot 1.09?
Currently, in my Android folder, I have a folder called adb_fb_files. In that folder, I have:
adb
adbwinapi.dll
adbwinusbapi.dll
aruglobal.dll
fastboot
hboot109.img
You need to unzip the adb_files I had you download.....the files inside of it are what go into your adb folder, not the adb_files.zip itself......

If your on firmware 1.85, or 1.73 you have hboot 1.09............
You can do the steps from twrp recovery.....but don't mount usb, once twrp is booted you can simply open a cmd prompt, cd to your adb folder and type
adb push hboot109.img /sdcard/hboot109.img
adb shell
dd if=/sdcard/hboot109.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12
then press up arrow, then enter to repeat command
Once it's done, in twrp select reboot>bootloader
From there, reflash your recovery, then boot recovery, wipe your cache, dalvik, factory reset, system......flash new evita one x rom

Fastboot OEM lock. Fastboot OEM unlock and start the process all over again. Also wipe everything 3 times.
Including system and boot.
Also double check you're installing all the compatible zips.

If you have the SDK installed on your computer. Here is what you need to do in order to get back into recovery.
#1 Boot your phone into bootloader, Vol up and power
-Plug into computer using usb while in fastboot(bootloader) and see if it recognizes it. Type adb devices it should list a serial number for your device.
( My SDK is installed in c:\android\) so you would type something like cd c:\android\tools and hit enter and then type adb devices )
#2 If you have installed sdk and pdanet drivers and your computer still does not see your phone in fastboot is this. Go to the folder where sdk is installed and copy everything excluding the folders that is in the Platform-tools folder into the tools folder. After that download Stock Phone files unzip it into a folder on desktop.
Dont run the script yet, what you have to do is after you unzip the stock look in the folder you just unzipped them in and you should see a file called fastboot, adb, and some other .dll's AdbWinApi.dll and etc move only these 4 files to your sdk tools folder.
#3 Now re open a cmd prompt and go back to c:\android\tools (enter) then type in adb devices and your computer should recognize it this time around.
Then all there is left to do is download the recovery of your choice here's mine Recovery and after you download it rename it recovery. After you rename it move it to sdk tools folder and while still in fastboot(bootloader) type in fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
You should now be able to enter recovery and flash roms again
EDIT #1
If you havent setup SDK here is a wiki guide on how to do so http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Install_the_Android_SDK
Make sure you are using the most up to date drivers and then use ADB to install recovery again. If I'm understanding it right I think that's what you need to try.

and put it somewhere on ur computer
2. plug phone into comp
3. boot the phone into the fastboot mode with the android guy

This leads me to believe that SDK isn't set up properly. If it's set up correct you should be able to access adb without the phone even connected.

OMG yes i know im a newb but there is a first time for everybody for anything.
So i'm trying to unlock, root, install cwm and install custom roms but ive looked at all the instruction from many thread and a lot of them had missing steps
Anyways, i've downgraded from JB to 4.0.3, rooted, unlocked and now i'm trying to install CWM. So i installed android SDK and all tools, i've put recovery image in same folder as fastboot.exe, i've booted the tablet and selectied USB icon but wtf do i do now??
I'm basically here:
** FastBoot Method **
1) Install Android SDK
2) Download CWM Recovery image from the original thread and check the MD5 sum (don't skip MD5 check,is there to make sure the file is not corrupted)
3) Copy the downloaded file in the same directory as your fastboot.exe (unless you have /platform-tools in PATH then you can flash from anywhere)
4) Turn off your device and boot into fastboot mode (power on while holding volume down, then select the usb icon and hit volume up to confirm)
5) Plug the device into your computer
6) Run the following command via the command line:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
Where do i get this command line?? is it command line from windows such as CMD?? cause if it is, i've tried it and nothing. Do i have to point to where is the recovery image?? Its in C:\Users\Patrick\AppData\Local\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools but i'm lost from that point, i'm not sure what command line i have to use, and how to set it up so i can tell it where to look.
Can anybody help me please?

change directory to the folder the recover/fastboot is in, using the CMD on windows. So:
"cd C:\Users\Patrick\AppData\Local\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools"
make sure the recovery is called "recovery.img" and that its in the "platform-tools" folder alongside the fastboot.exe, then run the commands:
"fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery recovery.img"
and
"fastboot reboot"

Yes, command line is in your PC. The location of the fastboot.exe located in c:\android-sdk\platformtools (if you install from sdk).
On your PC, open CMD and navigate to the above directory where fastboot.exe is. Make sure your recovery.img in also copied to this same folder. Now you can execute the fastboot comand:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot

I think it's easier for you to download Voodoo OTA root keeper to preserve root, then upgrade to JB, then use OTA root keeper to restore root. After this you can install TWRP recover by download goomanager from the play store and install it, once you have twrp, you're home free.
Currently you are on ICS, becareful if you use a wrong version of cwm you could brick your device. Many ppl installed ICS cwm version then upgrade to JB without the right version and they bricked.

What stage are you in? Have you got clockworkmod-recovery installed?
I assume you are referring to superuser zip file. DO NOT unzip it, copy the zip file into your Nexus S sdcard, any folder.
Copy clockworkmod-recovery image file to C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\
1. Reboot into recovery: Power off, hold Vol-Up and long-press Power button. This should get you in FASTBOOT MODE
2. Flash clockworkmod recovery via fastboot: Go into Windows command prompt
Code:
cd C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo.img
3. Once fastboot is finished, choose "RECOVERY" option on FASTBOOT menu. That should put you in Clockworkmod Recovery menu.
4. Select "install zip from sdcard"->"choose zip from sdcard" and select the superuser zip file that you copied earlier.
5. Reboot and you should be rooted.

So it says sending recovery. But its just stuck on saying that and is it supposed to take long?
If you are on stock rom, clockworkmod recovery may be replaced by stock recovery upon each boot.
You can re-flash clockworkmod recovery each time you need it, or disable the recovery restoration. Search this forum for instruction on how to make recovery stick.

Have you got Android SDK-tools installed? Did you install the "Platform Tools" package via SDK manager? fastboot.exe is not installed by default. You may want to install USB driver too. See attached picture.
Test if fastboot is available and working: plug nexus s to pc:
Code:
cd C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\
fastboot devices
If usb driver is working, you should see some device id being displayed.

Please see previous post #11 to test if fastboot/usb driver is working. Nexus S must be in FASTBOOT MODE.
Install Google USB driver package from SDK manager if necessary.

Welcome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not taking credit for any files or programs here I just simply constructed a full guide on how to downgrade etc. for noobs and also people that is struggeling like I did .
Please be warned that you might damage your phone and also that your waranty voids after you unlocked your bootloader so I don't take any responsibility !!!!! But be assured if you follow my instructions you'll just be fine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It took me 5 weeeeeeeekssss to find all of these and figure everything out so be greatfull !!!!
I'm going to tell you excacly how i did it !
First things first ....
Copy Cyanogen mod 7 android 2.3.3.zip to your sd card
Open "HTC DESIRE S - All in one toolkit" and run it.Remember you should be in bootloader for this ( volume down + power ) and the navigate with arrow keys to fastboot and select it using power button. Follow all the instructions in the lefthand corner on how to unlock your bootloader
Next you have to flash custom recovery . Look in the right hand corner and select TWRP 2.4.0.0 and let it flash.Sometimes it will say your phone is not detected just exit that command promt and the next command window will flash it.
Now you have to go to your recovery ... While in fastboot select bootloader and then recovery ... A htc logo will appear and about 10 sec from that an TWRP logo .
Go to
After all that is done go to install select zip and find the cyanogen mod 7... .zip you pasted earlier on your sd card and then flash it . wait untill it completes.
Now you have to reboot your phone look for reboot in the TWRP menu and select reboot then bootloader . Once your in bootloader again go to the folder where all my tools are located that I provided for you .
Go to android tools and press shift then right click and select open command window here .
copy and paste the following :
fastboot flash boot boot.img
After its completed select the reboot option using your arrow keys.
Wait until cyanogen mod 7 fully boots up
Now go to settings > applications > developer options and enable usb debugging
After that go to android tools folder again and open the command window again paste the following :
adb push C:\downsaga\misc_version /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
adb shell
su
cd /data/local/tmp
./misc_version -s 1.27.405.6
exit
exit
exit
adb reboot-bootloader
After that the phone will be in bootloader again already in fastboot and then just type :
Fastboot oem lock
After that the phone will be in bootloader again already in fastboot
Now open the ruu I have provided for you and run it until it completes and whalah !!! You have hboot 0.98.0002
Now if you want to root it use the superoneclick app I provided and after that s-off also your bootloader with revolutionary i provided just follow the clear instructions(Your phone must be turned on and not in bootloader ! also remember to turn on usb debugging again !!!! )
after all of thos when you reboot into bootloader things will look like :

Edited Version
I just wanted to post similar one but You did it for me. Anyway i edited it cause it was a mess Still I wonder will this work without GoldCard on any phone...
This is a simple guide for newcomers to Android. Please be warned that you might damage your phone and also that your waranty voids after you unlock your bootloader and the author doesn't take any responsibility for that. Still things shouldn't go wrong.
Link for the necessary files.
1. Copy Cyanogen mod 7 android 2.3.3.zip to your SD card.
2. Go here and click THANKS button for hasoon2000. This is his tool and he takes all credit for his hard work.
3. Now open "HTC DESIRE S - All in one toolkit" and double click on Desire S.exe.
4. Follow all the instructions in the left hand corner on how to unlock your bootloader
5. Now we are going to flash recovery. Look in the right hand corner, select TWRP 2.4.0.0 and click Flash Recovery button and follow the instructions.
6. It's time to go to the recovery. While in fastboot select bootloader and then recovery. A htc logo will appear and then TWRP should start.
7. When you're in the recovery MAKE BACKUP. Then go to Wipe section. Now wipe these four: Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, System. After that go back, click Install and select Cyanogenmod 7.zip you placed on your SD card. Slide to flash and wait.
8. After flash is complete go back to TWRP main menu and select Reboot and then Bootloader.
9. When you're in bootloader go to the folder where all my tools are located.
Go to android tools and press shift then right click and select open command window here.
10. In the Command Window copy and paste the following :
fastboot flash boot boot.img
11. After it's completed select the reboot option using your arrow keys.
Wait until cyanogenmod 7 boots up. This is first boot so it may take a while. Don't get nervous.
12. When Cyanogenmod 7 will start go to Settings > Applications > Developer options. Enable USB Debugging
13. After that go to android tools folder again and open the command window and paste the following :
adb push C:\downsaga\misc_version /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
adb shell
su
cd /data/local/tmp
./misc_version -s 1.27.405.6
exit
exit
exit
adb reboot-bootloader
14. When your phone will be in bootloader in fastboot USB mode type:
Fastboot oem lock
15. After that the phone will give you Warning. It's fine. Stay in bootloader in fastboot USB.
16. Open the RUU I have provided and run it until it completes flashing.
17. You have hboot 0.98.0002 now. Use the superoneclick app I provided.
18. After that run revolutionary tool and follow the instructions. After it's complete reboot into bootloader. Things should look like this:

Yes it's too long. Try connecting your device to PC and in command line (adb) type: adb reboot recovery.
If this doesn't work try Three button reset. Push power, volume up and down simultaneously. If this doesn't work too follow these steps
1. Connect phone to USB
2. Remove battery
3. Phone will still be running
4. Shutdown PC to cut the USB power
Now boot into recovery (hold vol down and click power). I'm sorry this is partially my fault. I just switched my brain off during writing this assuming this was right and n00b proof :silly:. It isn't. There is one more step before flashing Cyanogenmod that you may not be familiar with. When you manage to get into recovery go to Wipe section. Now wipe these four: Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, System. After that flash (install) cyanogenmod again. This time it will boot. I'm updating guide right now and I'm sorry for your stress and inconvenience. If it works please report back.

Thanks for the anwser, although I managed to solve this shortly after posting last nigth. Basicly I just removed the battery break the loop, wiped data and cache and reflashed.
Yes, I will have to ID myself as somewhat of a noob on the andoid-front and want to point out some parts of the guide that aint 100% noob-proof. A couple of times I was actually forced to think for myself. That's outrageous!
1. Place the folder "Desire_S_All-In-One_Kit_v2.0" at your C:/ root and run the .exe from there. Won't work baked into some other directory I believe.
2. Replace "adb push C:\downsaga\misc_version /data/local/tmp" with "adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp". Otherwise you will be looking in the wrong dir the way this rest of this guide is set up.
3. At step 11. If stuck on loop, follw these steps:
A. boot into recovery
B. wipe data/factory reset
C. wipe cache
D. go into partitions menu, and format boot and format system. (I skiped this part this time)
E. install rom zip from sdcard
F. reboot
4. At the end of step 13 there seem to be one "exit" to many. (this is just a trivial thing ofc)
5. Step 17: I had to run this one several times before it got propper rooted. What seem to make the difference was actually the in order i did things during the su test after the "successful" root. Go to your phone app-list >>superuser>>Preferences>>Automatic responce>>Allow befor you click away the warning on your computer.
I also ran all programs as admin, didnt test if it would work without, but it's generally a good idea with these things.
Remember, when you write for noobs you have to include the obvious
It's the first time i've touched this root-stuff so take this for what it is. It solved it for me, but may not always be the correct fix.
I've been wanting to root without using HTCdev, but resigned to this after beeing thrown around to some 10-15 differnet sites and guides, with missing software etc..
Now to figure out what ROM to use as this one had Sense 2.1, and why TiBu crashes when I attempt to remove bloatware. But that will have to be another story...
Thanks for the guide guys, and for providing all the software needed in one package, that's probably the most useful part for a newcomer =)

Wrong can mean two things:
1. Did you misc_version from a root/temproot environment? If you didn't have the right privileges, you can't do this step.
2. Your phone is Branded (to your carrier), you need to either choose a RUU that matches your carrier (see "+files" then RUU in my sig) or create a goldcard, which should let your phone ignore the carrier/region check.

Hello all, everything works fine for me until this step: first, I was surprised to see the program is named "misctool" and not "misc_version" as specified in the example. Also, the option to use seems to be "w" and not "-s". Anyway, when I run "./misctool w 1.27.405.6" as root, I get "Error opening misc partition... must be run as root" twice... And I know I am running it as root since when I run "whoami" it returns "root"...
What am I doing wrong here..?
EDIT:
I was able to make it work using the commands using "adb shell" from the cmd prompt...
But now I am running into another problem, when I try to install the RUU I get :ERROR [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR
Apparently this occurs when you have the wrong RUU. How do I get the correct RUU for my device ?
Thanks in advance
how to get token ID?
Apperantly I got stuck on the 3rd step. How do I get token ID? What is the command and on which dir do I type it?

As far as i remember... U get token ID when u unlock your bootloader via HTCDev.. Go to HTCDev http://http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ select all other supported model and follow the steps a mentioned. u need to have a login account to do that.

The error would usually appear if USB debugging isn't ticked or you don't have the right drivers.

Hey folks,
I´ve ran my MZ601 xoom on EOS builds over the last 1,5 years.
Obviously its unlocked and rooted. Currently its running CWM Recovery 4.0.0.4
Now I want to go back to stock to install the latest official updates to get the updated drivers for the UMTS radio/modem module.
After that I want to unlock and get root again to use any of the lastest custom Roms again.
Switching to a touch based recovery would be nice too.
I surfed around a bit and I´m rather confused which steps I need to perform in order to do this.
I guess I need to remove root and lock the bootloader again before I can install official updates ?
Could someone please toss me in the right direction? Maybe some step-by step list?
You'll presumably want Build H.6.1-38-1 for Retail Europe from here.
Returning to stock:
Extract the files from the link above to your adb/fastboot directory if you have one. If you don't have one I've uploaded them for you here.
Connect your Xoom to your PC then open command prompt from your adb folder. (Hold shift > right click on adb-fastboot folder > click Open Command Window Here)
Type adb devices and hit enter, if no devices are listed then ensure USB debugging is switched on in Settings > Development > and tick USB Debugging, then try again.
If it still doesn't appear then download Motorola USB drivers here and try again.
If fine then run:
adb reboot bootloaderThen run the following to flash the stock image:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock
Flashing userdata.img is going to remove all your files so back everything up first.
This should unroot your Xoom anyway, not entirely sure if the lock is required to receive updates, but it's simple to unlock again.
Once booted and through initial setup you should receive several over the air updates. (I believe the stock image is Android 3.2)
Unlock:
Connect your Xoom again and open command window in the adb-fastboot folder as before.
Run:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot rebootYou'll now be unlocked.
Install Touch Recovery and Root:
Next download ClockworkMod Touch recovery from here, rename it to just recovery.img for simplicity, and copy the image to the adb-fasboot folder.
Download Xoom Universal Root from here.
Copy that file to your sdcard.
Then run:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img(assuming you renamed it)
Once verified, reboot by holding Volume up and Power. (Keep connected to PC and keep command prompt open)
Important: When you see the Motorola logo wait about 3 seconds and hit volume down. You should see 'Android Recovery' in the top left corner, now press volume up to enter recovery.
From recovery go, Install zip from sdcard > choose zip > and select Xoom-Universal-Root.zip
Important: After the root flashes do not reboot.
Run:
adb remount
adb shell mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from-boot.p.old
adb shell mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.oldThen select reboot in ClockworkMod recovery and boot as normal.
If you are unable to use adb in recovery, then you can enable this through Windows by doing the following:
Whilst in recovery and connected to your PC, open Device Manager, find your Xoom, usually under 'Other devices'.
Then right click on your Xoom > Update driver software... > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > Pick your Xoom (either one if there's two shown)
Windows should confirm the driver installed then adb should work in recovery.
Finally, run:
adb reboot recoveryIf ClockworkMod touch recovery is still there then all is good!
Hopefully I've made sense! Any questions, just ask.
Repeat of downloads:
Download Motorola USB Drivers (Device Manager) here.
Download ClockworkMod Touch recovery here.
Download Xoom Universal Root here.
Wow, what a detailed guide
Thank you sir
No problem!
Let me know how it goes, hopefully shouldn't have any problems.
Resetting worked great :good:
Right now I´m in an OTA marathon
all that unlock, root and recovery stuff sounds familiar so I don´t expect any problems.
Thanks so far :good:

Ok, so this is not working
after I flash touch recovery and do thta reboot thing I can enter touch recovery, thats fine.
Flashing universal root, fine.
THEN,
adb remount
adb shell mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from-boot.p.old
adb shell mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.old
gives me error since in recovery mode there ist no adb connection
Whatever when I choose to reboot the system, recovery warns me that it will get overwritten by boot and ask me to disable this.
Shall I do this?
EDIT: Nevermind, I decided to be a little brave and just confirmed that message.
Now touch clockwork seems to be persistent and I´m a happy Xoomer again
Sorry, I had meant to reply during my lunch break.
Edit: Realised the time on the second of your posts, so wouldn't have been much help on my lunch anyway
Well I believe I just learned something new!
Either that or I'd forgotten it asked.
I assume it disables the action rather than deletes those files.
My method was just so you can use the reverse rename in future to re-enable the overwrite on boot.
In future, not that you'll necessarily ever need this information, you can enable adb in recovery through windows by doing the following
When in recovery and connected to your PC, open Device Manager, find your phone, usually under 'Other Devices'.
Then right click > Update driver > Browse my computer > Let me pick from list > Pick your phone (either one if there's two shown)
Should confirm driver installed then adb should work.
I didn't include the above previously as I couldn't remember having to do it personally.
Glad to hear all is well though!
