HTC desire s hboot downgrade from hboot 2.02.0002 to hboot 0.98.0002 - HTC Desire S

Welcome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not taking credit for any files or programs here I just simply constructed a full guide on how to downgrade etc. for noobs and also people that is struggeling like I did .
Please be warned that you might damage your phone and also that your waranty voids after you unlocked your bootloader so I don't take any responsibility !!!!! But be assured if you follow my instructions you'll just be fine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It took me 5 weeeeeeeekssss to find all of these and figure everything out so be greatfull !!!!
I'm going to tell you excacly how i did it !
First things first ....
Copy Cyanogen mod 7 android 2.3.3.zip to your sd card
Open "HTC DESIRE S - All in one toolkit" and run it.Remember you should be in bootloader for this ( volume down + power ) and the navigate with arrow keys to fastboot and select it using power button. Follow all the instructions in the lefthand corner on how to unlock your bootloader
Next you have to flash custom recovery . Look in the right hand corner and select TWRP 2.4.0.0 and let it flash.Sometimes it will say your phone is not detected just exit that command promt and the next command window will flash it.
Now you have to go to your recovery ... While in fastboot select bootloader and then recovery ... A htc logo will appear and about 10 sec from that an TWRP logo .
Go to
After all that is done go to install select zip and find the cyanogen mod 7... .zip you pasted earlier on your sd card and then flash it . wait untill it completes.
Now you have to reboot your phone look for reboot in the TWRP menu and select reboot then bootloader . Once your in bootloader again go to the folder where all my tools are located that I provided for you .
Go to android tools and press shift then right click and select open command window here .
copy and paste the following :
fastboot flash boot boot.img
After its completed select the reboot option using your arrow keys.
Wait until cyanogen mod 7 fully boots up
Now go to settings > applications > developer options and enable usb debugging
After that go to android tools folder again and open the command window again paste the following :
adb push C:\downsaga\misc_version /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
adb shell
su
cd /data/local/tmp
./misc_version -s 1.27.405.6
exit
exit
exit
adb reboot-bootloader
After that the phone will be in bootloader again already in fastboot and then just type :
Fastboot oem lock
After that the phone will be in bootloader again already in fastboot
Now open the ruu I have provided for you and run it until it completes and whalah !!! You have hboot 0.98.0002
Now if you want to root it use the superoneclick app I provided and after that s-off also your bootloader with revolutionary i provided just follow the clear instructions(Your phone must be turned on and not in bootloader ! also remember to turn on usb debugging again !!!! )
after all of thos when you reboot into bootloader things will look like :

Edited Version
I just wanted to post similar one but You did it for me. Anyway i edited it cause it was a mess Still I wonder will this work without GoldCard on any phone...
This is a simple guide for newcomers to Android. Please be warned that you might damage your phone and also that your waranty voids after you unlock your bootloader and the author doesn't take any responsibility for that. Still things shouldn't go wrong.
Link for the necessary files.
1. Copy Cyanogen mod 7 android 2.3.3.zip to your SD card.
2. Go here and click THANKS button for hasoon2000. This is his tool and he takes all credit for his hard work.
3. Now open "HTC DESIRE S - All in one toolkit" and double click on Desire S.exe.
4. Follow all the instructions in the left hand corner on how to unlock your bootloader
5. Now we are going to flash recovery. Look in the right hand corner, select TWRP 2.4.0.0 and click Flash Recovery button and follow the instructions.
6. It's time to go to the recovery. While in fastboot select bootloader and then recovery. A htc logo will appear and then TWRP should start.
7. When you're in the recovery MAKE BACKUP. Then go to Wipe section. Now wipe these four: Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, System. After that go back, click Install and select Cyanogenmod 7.zip you placed on your SD card. Slide to flash and wait.
8. After flash is complete go back to TWRP main menu and select Reboot and then Bootloader.
9. When you're in bootloader go to the folder where all my tools are located.
Go to android tools and press shift then right click and select open command window here.
10. In the Command Window copy and paste the following :
fastboot flash boot boot.img
11. After it's completed select the reboot option using your arrow keys.
Wait until cyanogenmod 7 boots up. This is first boot so it may take a while. Don't get nervous.
12. When Cyanogenmod 7 will start go to Settings > Applications > Developer options. Enable USB Debugging
13. After that go to android tools folder again and open the command window and paste the following :
adb push C:\downsaga\misc_version /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
adb shell
su
cd /data/local/tmp
./misc_version -s 1.27.405.6
exit
exit
exit
adb reboot-bootloader
14. When your phone will be in bootloader in fastboot USB mode type:
Fastboot oem lock
15. After that the phone will give you Warning. It's fine. Stay in bootloader in fastboot USB.
16. Open the RUU I have provided and run it until it completes flashing.
17. You have hboot 0.98.0002 now. Use the superoneclick app I provided.
18. After that run revolutionary tool and follow the instructions. After it's complete reboot into bootloader. Things should look like this:

It been 20-30 minutes now, and still booting. Is it now time to get nervous?

Yes it's too long. Try connecting your device to PC and in command line (adb) type: adb reboot recovery.
If this doesn't work try Three button reset. Push power, volume up and down simultaneously. If this doesn't work too follow these steps
1. Connect phone to USB
2. Remove battery
3. Phone will still be running
4. Shutdown PC to cut the USB power
Now boot into recovery (hold vol down and click power). I'm sorry this is partially my fault. I just switched my brain off during writing this assuming this was right and n00b proof :silly:. It isn't. There is one more step before flashing Cyanogenmod that you may not be familiar with. When you manage to get into recovery go to Wipe section. Now wipe these four: Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, System. After that flash (install) cyanogenmod again. This time it will boot. I'm updating guide right now and I'm sorry for your stress and inconvenience. If it works please report back.

Thanks for the anwser, although I managed to solve this shortly after posting last nigth. Basicly I just removed the battery break the loop, wiped data and cache and reflashed.
Yes, I will have to ID myself as somewhat of a noob on the andoid-front and want to point out some parts of the guide that aint 100% noob-proof. A couple of times I was actually forced to think for myself. That's outrageous!
1. Place the folder "Desire_S_All-In-One_Kit_v2.0" at your C:/ root and run the .exe from there. Won't work baked into some other directory I believe.
2. Replace "adb push C:\downsaga\misc_version /data/local/tmp" with "adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp". Otherwise you will be looking in the wrong dir the way this rest of this guide is set up.
3. At step 11. If stuck on loop, follw these steps:
A. boot into recovery
B. wipe data/factory reset
C. wipe cache
D. go into partitions menu, and format boot and format system. (I skiped this part this time)
E. install rom zip from sdcard
F. reboot
4. At the end of step 13 there seem to be one "exit" to many. (this is just a trivial thing ofc)
5. Step 17: I had to run this one several times before it got propper rooted. What seem to make the difference was actually the in order i did things during the su test after the "successful" root. Go to your phone app-list >>superuser>>Preferences>>Automatic responce>>Allow befor you click away the warning on your computer.
I also ran all programs as admin, didnt test if it would work without, but it's generally a good idea with these things.
Remember, when you write for noobs you have to include the obvious
It's the first time i've touched this root-stuff so take this for what it is. It solved it for me, but may not always be the correct fix.
I've been wanting to root without using HTCdev, but resigned to this after beeing thrown around to some 10-15 differnet sites and guides, with missing software etc..
Now to figure out what ROM to use as this one had Sense 2.1, and why TiBu crashes when I attempt to remove bloatware. But that will have to be another story...
Thanks for the guide guys, and for providing all the software needed in one package, that's probably the most useful part for a newcomer =)

Wrong can mean two things:
1. Did you misc_version from a root/temproot environment? If you didn't have the right privileges, you can't do this step.
2. Your phone is Branded (to your carrier), you need to either choose a RUU that matches your carrier (see "+files" then RUU in my sig) or create a goldcard, which should let your phone ignore the carrier/region check.

Hello all, everything works fine for me until this step: first, I was surprised to see the program is named "misctool" and not "misc_version" as specified in the example. Also, the option to use seems to be "w" and not "-s". Anyway, when I run "./misctool w 1.27.405.6" as root, I get "Error opening misc partition... must be run as root" twice... And I know I am running it as root since when I run "whoami" it returns "root"...
What am I doing wrong here..?
EDIT:
I was able to make it work using the commands using "adb shell" from the cmd prompt...
But now I am running into another problem, when I try to install the RUU I get :ERROR [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR
Apparently this occurs when you have the wrong RUU. How do I get the correct RUU for my device ?
Thanks in advance

how to get token ID?
Apperantly I got stuck on the 3rd step. How do I get token ID? What is the command and on which dir do I type it?

ghhhaaaa i can get past step 17. I realy need some help. i think comodo tought this files was a treath an placed them in quarantine
and i can get it to un quarantine them.. :crying: ( aahhh i needed to unlock bootloader again "crap.. now i need to figure out how i did that")

As far as i remember... U get token ID when u unlock your bootloader via HTCDev.. Go to HTCDev http://http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ select all other supported model and follow the steps a mentioned. u need to have a login account to do that.

The error would usually appear if USB debugging isn't ticked or you don't have the right drivers.

Rooting issues - ADB unable to locate phone in fastboot

Hi everyone,
I have looked everywhere on google and have been at this for over 5 hours now. I have tried rooting my phone from 3 different PCs (XP SP3, SP2 and 7). With all of them i have managed to get the drivers for adb installed (after many problems) and got all the way to the fastboot part of the rooting.
Once i get there, i have the same problem on all 3 PCs. ADB can no longer find my phone! Following the instructions, i checked for the device before i powered it off and found it by doing abd devices in cmd prompt. The moment the device is powered off and then back on, bam! No more device!
I am at my wits end at this point and just don't know what else I could possibly do! I would be immensely grateful for ANY advice.
I did check that my device allowed USB debug so that's not it either.
Also, my phone is a Rogers phone and I have just put through the upgrade they sent this morning.
adb cant find your phone in fastboot mode but fastboot can
Try writing fastboot devices instead of adb devices
All the comands in fastboot mode start with fastboot...e.g fastboot flash xxx xxx.img
I ran into this problem as well on my attempt, I forgot to re-enable (or enable) depending on where I was at "usb debugging" which is in:
settings> applications > development > check the usb debugging box.
After that, when you do abd devices in your shell, it should surely list after that. Good luck!
edit-- woops scratch that.. sorry I just read back that you made sure of that.
Thank you for that!
Now, i see it in fastboot, but when i try typing fastboot boot recovery.img i get a "cannot load recovery.img"
Sorry, apparently i need a lot more hand holding than i though!
(this is where I am getting the instructions from HowardForums. I'd post the link but I can't do that yet on this forum...
Basically, these are the instructions i am following:
If the phone you have is an HTC Magic (no hardware keyboard), the method is pretty much the same. I modified Haykuro's zip with files that were meant for the Magic. You can grab it here:
*link*
Again, open another command prompt as steps 2, and 6-8 are entered in the command prompt.

These are pretty much the Haykuro instructions for the Dream, which I modified to apply to the Magic. The boot and recovery images were made by Amon_RA. Happy Rooting!
Just like with the Dream, the first part flashes a good SPL, the second flashes a rooted boot and recovery. The easiest way to test if the device is rooted is to open another command prompt in the tools dir and type
Code:
adb root
If it returns that adb is already running in root, then you're all set.

Am i doing something wrong?
Thanks so much!
You need to navigate to the folder where you saved your recovery.img
For example if you put it on d:/Android dev. you will need to do (inside cmd)
d: (switches to drive d
cd d:/Android dev. (changes the folder to android dev.)
and then issue the fastboot command
without the brackets of course...

Again, thank you so much! It seems I am still having issues as now I'm being told that "remote not allow".... is this a rogers thing?
Again i do apologize for all the hand-holding necessary here
yes, i am getting this <remote:not allow> message too. I was able to fix my other magic (purchased in october) via fastboot boot recovery.img but not this new one i have (purchased in Dec).
Anyone have any ideas how to bypass this block of 'remote, not allowed"?

Temp Root:
1. Enable USB debugging on your phone and place your phone on CHARGE ONLY (If this doesn't work, try choosing 'HTC Sync' when connecting USB)
2. Download the DHD Downgrade folder and extract it to the root of your hard drive (usually this is the "C:\" drive on your computer)
3. Run the file named "RUN THIS FOR ROOT". A command prompt will open and will begin to do the adb steps for you.
Alternatively (If step 3 fails):
1. Open a command prompt (right click "Run as Administrator" is using Vista or W7) and locate the downgrade folder (type "CD C:\DHDDowngrade" minus the quotes in CMD)
2. Run the below commands (be sure to press enter after each line)
adb push fre3vo /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/fre3vo
adb shell /data/local/tmp/fre3vo -debug -start FBB00000 -end FFFFFFFF
Click to collapse
If the scan hangs, just reboot your DHD and start again.
You may not get all the messages (due to flushing issues when we kill adb), but if you get kicked back to your system command prompt, try "adb shell"
If you see '#' you successfully have temproot.
If you want to use Titanium Backup, you must do the following:
1. Download Busybox, su & fixsu.sh and Superuser.apk
2. Run the following commands in CMD...
adb push fixsu.sh /data/local/tmp
adb push su /data/local/tmp
adb push busybox /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/fixsu.sh
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/su
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/busybox
Click to collapse
3. Install Superuser.apk
4. Install Titanium Backup from the Market
5. Run the following commands in CMD:
adb shell
# cd /data/local/tmp
# ./fixsu.sh
Click to collapse
If you see...
rm failed for /system/bin/su Read-only file system
Click to collapse
...ignore it
You can now use Titanium to backup all User Apps + Data (You can backup System apps too)
If you don't want to go any further than rooting, and just want temproot to remove bloatware, you can also use Titanium backup to do that.
Temproot will be enabled until phone is rebooted.
Downgrade:
1. Create a goldcard:
1. Format SDCard to FAT32
2. Download Goldcard Helper from Android Market
3. Open Goldcard Helper with the SDCard in the phone, and you will see the mmc2 reverse CID
Note: Do not use the Copy feature in the app as this will copy the wrong CID!
Alternate to the Goldcard helper app:
1. Open up a command prompt (Windows Key + R, type "CMD", press enter)
2. connect your phone as "charge only" and have usb debugging enabled
3. navigate the command prompt to the downgrade folder.
4. Type the following command:
adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc2/mmc2:*/cid
Click to collapse
5. Select and copy the cid
Click to collapse
4. Go to http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard
5. Enter your email address and the mmc2 reverse CID that is showing on the Goldcard Helper app then submit it
6. The img file will be emailed to you, download and save it somewhere you will remember
7. Download this hex editor - http://mh-nexus.de/en/downloads.php?product=HxD

FAQs
Q. How do I run CMD?
A. Windows Vista and 7 users: Press Start, type CMD. You should see CMD sppear, right click and 'Run as Administrator'. Windows XP users: Press Start, Press 'Run', type CMD, then click OK.
Q. How do I enable USB Debugging?
A. On your Desire HD go to Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Enable USB Debugging
Q. Why do I keep getting CID error in bootloader?
A. This is most often a problem with your goldcard. First make sure you have created a goldcard using the guide at the top of this post. If you have created a goldcard, format the SDCard using FAT32 and try again making sure you have followed each step very carefully. Also, make sure you have the .bin file on your SDCard after doing the adb steps.
Q. When going into bootloader it says "no image or wrong image"
A. This message will be displayed when files it is looking for cannot be found. Leave it to continue and it will update. If it displays this message after searching for PD98IMG.zip, then the file is damaged or you do not have it on your SDCard.
Q. Do I have to disconnect the phone from the computer before booting into bootloader?
A. Yes....Simplez
Q. I have tried many times to create the goldcard, but continue to get errors.
A. This could be because you are continuously making mistakes, or your SDCard cannot be made into a goldcard, try another SDCard.
More will be added when needed

Don't change any thing as far as I know It'll boot into "Fastboot" incase if it didn't choose "FASTBOOT"
It'll check Recvoery, Tp , etc. I forgot to name them.
Follow CuBz90's guide it works 100%. I downgraded n rooted n now running custom ROM.
Is there a way to gain root status in 2.37, so the phone can be backed up (via Titanium backup or similar) prior to the downgrade?
Failing that is there any other way to backup the phone?
I assume that when downgrading all data will be lost.
kindly reupload the "Download this ROM - Mirror" link as whenever i click it i get

You can backup apps with MyBackup, but you cannot backup the data as 2.37 cannot be rooted
Hellow, just want to confirmed it works! Happy happy joy joy! Thanks for all magicians here that made this possible!

I have added the additional step of going to SoftBank ROM into the official downgrade guide
I am still looking forward to getting a proper, universal root method for 2.37, but this will do for the time being.

Well this is not even my thread, why are you asking my help here?
Anyway, you do not need to make a goldcard, and you do not even need any downgrade guide. Just put stock 1.32.405.6 PD98IMG.zip (get it from my downgrade guide) into your SD card and reboot to bootloader. Accept the update and make a cup of coffee.

[GUIDE] How to Debrand, Rebrand & Flash Stock ROMs to your Sensation

After searching with no success for a clear way to debrand your sensation, I finally found a way reading lots of snippets, so thought I'd write it into one guide, to help others. This guide was written assuming you're running Windows, but other OS users should be able to follow most parts, except extracting rom.zip from the RUU.
This method can also be use to rebrand/reflash back to stock.
NB
If you follow this guide, you do so at your own risk, I cannot be held responsible if something goes wrong.
This process will wipe ALL data, including any recovery partitions or boot loaders you have installed.
S-OFF WILL BE RETAINED. (If you want restore S-ON, see last section)
CONTENTS
S-OFF
DEBRANDING
- METHOD 1
- METHOD 2
S-ON
S-OFF
First your Sensation needs to be S-OFF, if its not, follow the guide below (thanks to ikhzter's thread).
(99.9% of devices are shipped S-ON)
ikhzter said:
Step 1. To S-OFF your Sensation
Visit http://revolutionary.io/
download the application for your operating System.
IMPORTANT
Fill out the form under the download links with your OS, Device, Hboot Version and Serial number. This will give your beta key to enable you to S - OFF. Make a note of this.
How To get your Hboot Version - 3 methods below
1. Run the revolutionary Utility you just downloaded from http://revolutionary/.io and if it has found your device it should read
"Found your Device: HTC Sensation Z710* <pyramid-1.17.**** <This is your hboot version "1.17.****"
2. OR Take out your battery and put it back in. Keep hold of the volume down button and switch your phone on.
3. OR make sure fastboot is disabled in settings and shut down your phone
This can be done via Settings > Power> Untick "FAST BOOT" at the bottom.
4. Keep hold of the volume down button and switch your phone on.
Once you have completed the above
1. Uninstall HTC Sync and/or Doubletwist if you have them installed
2 WINDOWS USERS- You must Install these HTC drivers DOWNLOAD HERE. Linux Users can skip this
3. Confirm that USB Debugging is on (Settings -> Applications -> Development)
4. With phone on (not in HBOOT, just regular home screen), plug in USB cable and set it to HTC sync mode (IGNORE warning messages on your phone telling you it cannot find HTC Sync )
5. Launch revolutionary.exe. It should detect the phone and ask for your beta key
6. You're DONE S-OFF is complete...if it hangs on method 3. Try These Drivers HERE: or Factory Reset and then start again
7. Your Device is now S-OFF
Special Thanks to AlphaRev, unrEVOked Team, Bin4ry & to everyone else that made this happen

DEBRANDING
METHOD 1 - CID CHANGE
Thanks to ikhzter, ironeagle, broncogr and sowen222 for their posts to help create these instructions. You should try this method first, and use Method 2 as a fall back.
NB
Whenever you see: Enter the command "bla bla bla", you should type the text without quotes and follow with a carriage return (ENTER).
Before you can change the CID you need to decide what you want to change it to, a couple of examples:
SuperCID (flash any ROM) = 11111111
Stock Unbranded (UK/EU at least) = HTC__001
Vodafone UK (may cover other countries) = VODAP001
I am getting people to post their CIDs in this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195475
Otherwise this thread contains a number of different CID codes, although originally written for the DHD, HTC has kept most if not all codes the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10007960&postcount=206
1. Uninstall HTC Sync and/or Doubletwist if you have them installed
2. WINDOWS USERS- You must Install these HTC drivers DOWNLOAD HERE. Linux Users can skip this
3. Confirm that USB Debugging is on (Settings -> Applications -> Development)
4. Download and the Android SDK (or if you know where to find it, just the adb and fastboot tools, then skip straight to part 10)
You can get it from here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html Choose the zip file.
5. Extract the contents of the zip file, and run the SDK manager
6. Accept and Install the Android SDK Platform Tools, you can reject all others as they are not needed.
7. When the download and install is finished, close the SDK manager.
8. Now copy the newly created "platform-tools" folder found in the SDK folder you extracted to an easy location, e.g. "C:\platform-tools".
9. You also need to copy "fastboot.exe" from the "tools" folder of the SDK folder you extracted, to your newly created "C:\platform-tools".
10. Open Command Prompt, either Run "cmd" or go to Start, Accesories, Command Prompt
11. Enter the command: "cd C:\platform-tools" (Or whatever location you copied the folder to earlier)
12. Ensure your phone is switched on (regular home screen) and connect it by USB in charging mode (Ensure usb debugging is on settings > applications > development)
13. Enter the command "adb devices". It should come back with list of devices attached and then your serial number.
14. Enter the command "adb reboot bootloader". (You device will restart and boot into fastboot USB)
15. Enter the command "fastboot oem writecid [CID number]"
(use the CID number chosen above, do not include square brackets) e.g. "fastboot oem writecid HTC__001"
16. Enter the command "fastboot reboot-bootloader"
17. Enter the command "fastboot getvar cid". If cid is what you entered you have succeeded
18. Enter the command "fastboot reboot"
19. You now need to pick the RUU you wish to flash, a good source is this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
To debrand my Vodafone Sensation, I chose "RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.1_Radio_10.43a.900 7.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_198179_signed"
20. Once you have downloaded the RUU you would like to flash, run it (it can take a while to load), follow the instructions and your done!
21. Your phone should now reboot to first time setup, with your newly flashed ROM!
METHOD 2 - ENG HBOOT
Now the method I found to debrand (rather than messing about with CIDs), is using an ENG HBOOT, this is only temporary as the ROM we flash later on overwrites it.
Grab the file below (thanks to Bin4ry), and put it in the root of your SD Card. (i.e. if your on Windows, X:/ [where X is the letter of your Sensation's SD Card])

Flash ENG HBOOT
1. EITHER:
1a. Shut down your phone, then take out your battery and put it back in.OR:
1b. Make sure fastboot is disabled in settings and shut down your phone (This can be done via Settings > Power> Untick "FAST BOOT" at the bottom.)
2. Keep hold of the volume down button and switch your phone on.
3. When it asks "Do you want to start the update", press Volume Up to accept
5. Press Power Off to reboot back to normal homescreen
6. Remove PG58IMG.zip from your memory card
Download an RUU
2. Once you have downloaded the RUU you would like to flash, run it (it can take a while to load), and stop when you get the welcome screen, which has a picture of a Sensation on the left and a red caution notice on the right.
3. Move this window out of the way (it forces itself into foreground), then open up windows explorer and go to:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp
4. Then sort by Date Modified. Find the newest folder with a long random sequence of numbers as its name, go in here and you should see, three files and a folder: corecomp, dotnetinstaller, IBSEW64. (the files may be different on 32-bit OS), now go into the folder which has another long random name.
In there amongst a lot of files (use search if you need to), you will find rom.zip. This is the rom we want to flash!
5. Copy the rom.zip file to the root of your SD Card
(i.e. if your on Windows, X:/ [where X is the letter of your Sensation's SD Card])
6. Rename the rom.zip you just put on your SD Card, to PG58IMG.zip (ensure you do not rename it to PG58IMG.zip.zip or it wont work!)
7. Find the "HTC Android ROM Update Utility" Window, and hit Cancel.
THIS IS YOUR LAST OPPORTUNITY TO BACKUP DATA, ALL EXISTING DATA, CONTACTS, MESSAGES SETTINGS, APPS, ETC, WILL BE DELETED AFTER THE NEXT STEP.
MAKE SURE THE BATTERY INDICATOR IN THE NOTIFICATION AREA SHOWS GREEN, NOT ORANGE OR RED, BEFORE CONTINUING.
Flash RUU (rom.zip)
1. EITHER:
3. When it asks "Do you want to start the update", press Volume Up to accept (this can take a while and its normal for the system part to appear to go in a loop several times)
5. Press Power Off to reboot to first time setup.
6. Your phone is now debranded!
7. Remove PG58IMG.zip from your memory card
S-ON
You may want to put your phone back to S-ON after following the rest of this guide, for example if you have reflashed your original rom and want to return it for warranty repair. Thanks to ikhzter thread, we have a way to do this!
1. Open Command Prompt, either Run "cmd" or go to Start, Accesories, Command Prompt
2. Enter the command: "cd C:\platform-tools" (Or whatever location you copied the folder to earlier)
3. Ensure your phone is switched on (regular home screen) and connect it by USB in charging mode (Ensure usb debugging is on settings > applications > development)
4. Enter the command "adb devices". It should come back with list of devices attached and then your serial number.
5. Enter the command "adb reboot bootloader". (You device will restart and boot into fastboot USB)
6. Enter the command "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3". (Thanks Dazweeja)
7. Reboot into bootloader using "fastboot reboot-bootloader" or remove & reinsert the battery and press power on while keeping hold of volume down.
8. Bootloader should now read Pyramid PVT Ship S-ON RL.
9. Remove and reinsert the battery. Press power on as normal
You should now have S-on back and you can return your device or do whatever it is covered again under warranty.
10. IF IT DOESN'T REBOOT and bootloader says ***Security Warning**
Remove and re-insert the battery and go back into bootloader and holding Volume Down +power button select fastboot
11. Run RUU_Pyramid_***.exe to reflash stock rom. (the one you downloaded earlier) and then reboot. It should work now
Enjoy!
Thanks for this, its very useful and handy. I have included you in post 1 of my Sticky, It could help a lot of users.
how about in the temporary folder people search for rom.zip using the search tool. that could work too.
Thanks man, brilliant guide. Goodbye Orange crapware!!!

One question - will flashing the RUU using this method (or by running it normally) revert the device to S-On?
I'm asking this for warranty purposes if in any case I'll have to send in my phone for repair.

Nope it stays S-OFF
Played with this process... pretty happy with the results on my TMOUS S4G. Haven't tested everything, such as the 4G radio, but I will report back.
Another step I think is worth doing if you're coming from ANY other ROM and would like to totally start clean:
After copying PG58IMG.zip to the SD card, shut your phone off. Pull the SD card out of it. Boot into recovery, and then fastboot over USB.
Issue this: 'fastboot erase system -w'
It will completely clear anything related to your current ROM. Now, shut your phone off again, put the SD card back in, and boot into recovery. The flashing process should begin as described in the OP.
Of course, before you do any of that, make sure you can get into clockwork recovery and do a nandroid backup.
Update: Looking good. No '4G' icon, instead it shows H for HSPA. Don't really care about that... it works as it should. Speed tests showing 6586/1724 HSPA and 21415/4134 cable/wifi.

Install Superuser from the market.
Install SuperManager from the market.
Install Busybox from the market.
Install Terminal Emulator from the market.
You can flash ROMs in the same manner the SU package was flashed.
If you want to edit / change system files you can su then remount the FS to rw with the following command within terminal or adb shell :
mount -o remount,rw -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system

i used these steps and I still have s on. When I tried to flash a new rom it gets stuck at the htc boot screen. Any help would be great!
I think I would use the downgrade to .5 then revolutionary from there..

I tried this just now but when it goes through the integrity check it does not give me the option to update.
Yes, if you can downgrade at all do it that way. It's much simpler. If you aren't familiar with linux the above will be a hassle for you.
Reason being is, you have to remount the file system to read write every time you want to make a change. It resets to read only on reboot. Thus the s-on.
the weird thing is I already have a rooted devices cause I have the cwm recover still loaded on my device. Just can not flash anything over it. Im on windows 7 right now but I dual boot my laptop with linux mint.
I haven't tried to flash a ROM yet. I just wanted access to some system files so I could edit them.
But according to the post I got the Clockwork info from the below steps should work to flash ROMs.
1. Copy <ROMname>.zip (where <ROMname> is the name of the ROM zip file) to your sdcard root
2. Start clockworkmod recovery :
---A. Unplug USB
---B. Turn the device off
---C. Hold volume down button (HOLD IT) and press power
---D. Hboot will start. Navigate to recovery with the vol down button. Press power to select and enter recovery.
3. Select "install zip from sdcard"
4. Then select "Choose zip from sdcard"
5. Then select "<ROMname>.zip"
6. Then select "Yes - install <ROMname>.zip" to confirm
7. Then go back
8. Then reboot.
I don't know however if the ROM has to be signed.
need a hero
I followed this guide and every other guide to root my phone. I could not downgrade the way the other guides told me to the 2.11.605.5 at all. I followed this guide and when i was in the bootloader i did the whole fastboot flash and it worked but now my phone still says s-on (strange thing is that I have the clockwork recovery). I can flash any rom but nothing will take and I either go into bootloop or will not boot past splash screen. I need a true hero to save the day. It is my only phone and means of communication.
Did you get SU and busybox installed?
I'm not sure, I can't boot in any rom so if it was in the su.zip this guide linked me to yes, if not i didn't. Could this be the problem? Can I fix it through h-boot or recovery?
The method I used will allow root access but does not give you s-off.
I'm still looking for what has to be done for that.
apparently you have to have s-off in order to flash a ROM.
I was able to flash skyraider and now have my phone up and running. I updated superuser, installed Rom manager and flashed clockwork recovery. My phone still says s-on and will not boot any bamf 3.5 roms or the eternity rom, so I'm still kinda confused as to why. I would love to have a sense 3.5 Rom but I'm stumped...
That is strange, being able to flash one ROM but not others.
I still think it's got to do with the s-on/s-off.
Supposedly ICS is coming for the T-Bolt soon.
I'm hoping it won't be locked down like 2.11.605.9 is.
i rooted as soon as rooting was available, no downgrading or anything, it was easy as pie. js
Have you tried going to revolutionary's site after the OP method and try to get s-off... HTC method will not give you s-off & is not a true rooting tool..
Big thanks to the OP for putting this together!
This was the only way for me to gain root on a factory flashed 605.9 phone.
EDIT: i'm a linux user so i thought i would share what i did to get root. it's basically what the OP did with a linux twist.
1) Get Fastboot and adb for linux here: forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=630613&stc=1&d=1308537 331
2) Extract the zip to your home directory.
3) open a terminal and issue the following command: sudo chmod 777 fastboot adb
4) Unlock the bootloader using this site: htcdev.com/bootloader
5) you will need to register/login to use the unlocking features of this site.
6) once logged in follow the "unlock device" links to get to the instructions. use these instructions to put the phone into fastboot mode and connect it to the computer. you can ignore the rest of the instructions as most of them are for windows. just click through until you get to the part about submitting an "unlock token".
7) with the phone in fastboot mode and connected to the computer issue the following command in a terminal: sudo ./fastboot oem get_identifier_token
8) copy this token into the submit box and edit to make it look similar to the example on the same page. submit the token and you'll get an email with a file "Unlock_code.bin"
9) save "Unlock_code.bin" to your home folder then issue the command: sudo ./fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
10) download clockwork recovery to your home folder from here: downloads.unrevoked.com/recoveries/cwm-4.0.1.4-mecha.img
11) issue the command: sudo ./fastboot flash recovery cwm-4.0.1.4-mecha.img
12) Download and install the superuser package
goo-inside.me/superuser/su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip
1. Copy su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip to your sdcard root
2. Start clockworkmod recovery :
---A. Unplug USB
---B. Turn the device off
---C. Hold volume down button (HOLD IT) and press power

This post HTCDev unlocks, but sadly does not S-OFF.
tool in sig but if you did this and unlocked you will have to wipe data to use it. (email me for instructions)

Toolless Mi A1 rooting guide NOOB FRIENDLY (bootloader, twrp, root, rom)

DISCLAMER: DOING THIS MIGHT RESET YOUR PHONE SO PLEASE BACKUP YOUR FILES BEFORE DOING THIS
now lets get started
download this tool (even if you already have adb and fastboot)*
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
and go to your phone's settings then System > about phone and press on build number until it tells you: "you have developer options"
now go to System > developer options and enable android debugging and OEM Unlocking
now plug your phone into the pc and open the file: "cmd-here.exe" from the tool you downloaded
now type adb devices and it will probably tell you unauthorized, if it does then open your phone and click on accept
if you dont see any thing other than "list of devices attached" then download this
open it and input in, N and then Y so you dont install adb but you do install the phone's drivers
now type adb devices and you should see random numbers, if it says unauthorized just go back to when I said how to fix it
so now that everything is working type in the command prompt: adb reboot bootloader
now you should see a russian cat fixing a android machine with blue text: "FASTBOOT"
now type "fastboot oem unlock" and it should unlock your phone
now type "fastboot reboot"
--------------------------------------------------------
good, Now you have the bootloader unlocked
--------------------------------------------------------
If you are now put in the setup screen don't do it, just shut down your phone and then when it's shutdown hold on the power button and volume down buttons until you enter fastboot again
now go to this page: https://github.com/CosmicDan-Android/android_device_xiaomi_tissot/releases and download the latest boot only and regular versions
put them both in the adb (tool) folder and type in the command prompt: "fastboot boot boot-recovery.img"
if your phone doesnt do anything (doesn't do anything in the 30s after you input the command) then restart it and get it back in fastboot and type fastboot --set-active=b
and then type the previous command again, if that doesnt work then restart your phone back to fastboot again
and then type fastboot --set-active=a and the command "fastboot boot boot-recovery.img" and it should work
so now you will be in twrp, good!
type "adb push (regular twrp zip name, remember to put .zip at the end!) /sdcard/"
example:"adb push TWRP-Installer-3.2.1-with-Tissot-Manager-2.5.zip /sdcard/"
and then in your phone go to install and you should already be in /sdcard if not then go there and then tap on the zip and swipe on the thing
after it finishes installing go to reboot and then tap on recovery
--------------------------------------------
good now you have TWRP installed!
-------------------------------------------
Now its up to you, do you want to install only root or rom and root? its up to you
Root Only:
Download Magisk (you can also use SuperSU but I strongly recommend magisk)
put it in your adb (tool) folder and type "adb push (magisk's zip name, remember to put .zip at the end!) /sdcard/"
example:"adb push Magisk-v17.1.zip /sdcard/"
go to install, press on the zip file and swipe on the thing and click on restart system at the end
and congrats! you have root on your phone!
Rom:
If were talking about a treble rom then you should follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/treble-stock-to-treble-everything-to-t3793734 but if not you can continue using this one
download your favorite rom and download magisk (you can also use SuperSU but I strongly recommend magisk)
also go to opengapps.org choose arm64 and the android version your rom is and I recommend the nano variant
now in twrp tap on Wipe and Advanced Wipe and choose everything there (you dont have to choose micro SDcard tho) and swipe THIS WILL RESET YOUR PHONE AGAIN BUT YOU PROBABLY DONT CARE ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW
now in the command prompt type: "adb push (rom zip name, remember to put .zip at the end!) /sdcard/"
example:"adb push RR-O-v6.1.0-20180709-Official /sdcard/"
and install it, some roms include gapps and other things in their installation for example: pixel experience. but most roms don't have that
so if you check the xda page and they say nothing about including opengapps in the rom then you should be able to fully follow the next steps.
type "adb push (magisk zip name, remember to put .zip at the end!) /sdcard/" and install it
then type "adb push (opengapps zip name, remember to put .zip at the end!) /sdcard/" and install it
now tap on reboot system and congrats! you just rooted and custom rom-ed your phone!
* "even if you already have adb and fastboot" the reason for this is because that link uses the newest version (or new enough) that is surprisingly not common in other places I downloaded adb and fastboot. the new version adds a new command that is used in the guide if you are experiencing a certain problem
I hope I helped you, if you have any questions or problems post them in the comments
a big THANK YOU
Months ago I rooted and installed a new ROM for first time in my life and, although I read another guides, with them I always break my phone, so I must flash and start again. And your guide, 4 months later, saved me again. I don't know why, really. Maybe because is super friendly. But thank you, again. The only thing I'll add is wtf to do when TWRP asks if install in slot a or b because that's the point I always mess it :'(
Thank you forever
