[Q] Can't flash invisiblek v2 Kernel in Jellywiz - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Terribly sorry but the search function is not working for me right now and I'd rather get this sorted today. I am completely new to this game and just installed Jellywiz.
I use SetCPU to overclock, and previously on the stock rom when I flashed Invisiblek V2 Kernel in EZ-Recovery, it allowed me to OC to 1.8Ghz in SetCPU.
Unfortunately now with Jellywiz installed, when I flash Invisiblek in EZ-Recovery and hit reboot recovery the screen stays dark, blue light stays on, and the phone just vibrates in these intervals.
My device is an SCH1535, what can I do to overcome this?

Sounds like your trying to flash TW kernel on JB rom. No bueno. lol Will most likely have to Odin back to stock and start over.

So why is it a bad idea to flash TW kernel on JB rom? Is it because it's made for ICS? What would starting over fix?
I just want to be able to get SetCPU to allow me to OC to 1.8Ghz, and the only way I knew how to before was flashing to Invisiblek in EZ-Recovery.

Just reflash jellywiz. And yeah it's JB and not ICS, their not compatible apparently.

Okay so it's a compatibility issue. So how would reflashing help?

Kernels are touchy things, and on the GS3 they are definitely tied to the base ROM you're running. An ICS-based kernel won't work (or boot) on a JB ROM. Until Dan ("invisiblek") gets his hands on the source-code for the kernel, we're all SOL for overclocking using what we're used to.
I've seen/heard that the KT747 kernel will work on the VZW I535 with JB, but I've yet to prove it myself. It boots, but it comes up with nothing but lameness, so I had to put it down and reflash my BOOT.IMG using CWM "Advanced" mode restore so I just grabbed the kernel out of the backup and not God and his dog and everything in between.

Why are you flashing through EZ recovery???? I'd say flash through normal recovery. Why take the beaten path?
Again, another example of somebody making their life tougher.

Sky Ice Cream Sandwich ROM - Deep Sleep issues

Hello all,
I installed the latest Sky Ice Cream Sandwich ROM RC6.3 and used faux123's kernel but have issues where my skyrocket never goes into a deep sleep causing a severe battery depletion.
Using CPU spy shows instead of a deep sleep my device is CPU is at 384GHz.
Can anybody help with suggestions? I tried Da_G's 0.42 kernel with the ROM and battery isn't great either.
Help me please....

I was using da_g's .4+ and worked great for me. I m using faux123's kernel and out of 36 mins i got 6 mins of deep sleep and the other 30 mins i was using the phone.

Turning off wifi makes a big difference, letting it go into deep sleep a lot more than 384

I agree with trying out the .3 Da_G kernel. I was having some of the same issues you were having (Deep sleep, battery depletion, bricking a phone for example). Try that out.
How do I change from one kernel to another?
Download the kernels and place the .zip's on the root of the SD card. From there, since most of them are CWM flashable, boot into recovery and wipe the cache and the dalvik cache. From there, install from SD (or internal SD) and you're good to go!
The most popular ones are the stock ones, Da_G's, or I've even heard of some people satisfied with the Cyanogen ones, if that's your thing. If you still have issues try flashing a stock kernel and/or rom. It never hurts to start anew!
Here you can find instruction on changing kernels!!!!!!

Mainly I was wondering if doing that will erase or overwrite the other flashed kernel I have. Sorry if I left some info out before.
Oh. Well. Yea, they will. If you want to keep them then go ahead and make a nandroid backup.
Now that I think about it, I heard somewhere that flashing stock kernels before flashing another custom one reduced chances for bricking, but, I haven't practiced that and I'm doing just fine. Might be just me though.
OH shi** i m sorry. I updated the thread and that's y it did that. Forgive me for doing that. Here is the rite one.

EDIT: wow. don't know why this thread wasn't refreshed for me. sorry you already answered that a while ago haha.
OK. I started over by installing sky ics again. Then CPU spy. And as soon as I install set CPU, my phone will no longer go into deep sleep. Even if I uninstall set CPU. Now what.
Update- I cleared set CPU data under manage applications, then installed, then UNPLUGGED THE STUPID CHARGER!!!
Now it gets deep sleep again. I guess I will have to try system tuner with the next OC kernel I try..
The problem is Setcpu. Use No-Frills CPU instead.
I may give that a try
Update - I flashed latest faux123 kernel and I checked CPU spy and i'm overclocked to 1720000 with no tuner app installed. Problem is definitely with set CPU.

Thank you everyone for the quick replies... There are two KERNELS submitted by Da_G:
1- [KERNEL] AT&T/Rogers dag .42 1.83GHzOC/UV/init.d/BFQ/BLN/FUSE/adb root/optimized
2- [KERNEL] Cyanogenmod Skyrocket Kernel 0.43pre v4
Which one do I use? I attempted to use the Rogers 0.42 kernel
Oh BTW is anyone experiencing any SoD's with the latest Sky Ice Cream Sandwich ROM (RC 6.6). I've gotten two with less than 24hrs since I installed it yesterdat .

Great Silver is back!!!!!!!!!!!!
silver... excellent work again amigo! I'm testing the UCLA3 kernel zip you PM'd me and all good so far. I wiped cache partition first, then CWM flashed the kernel zip. Script worked without a hitch. Rebooted, and confirmed kernel playing well so far. Did a SpeedTest.net test and it's about twice as fast on 4G (I was getting around 3700 kbps on KK1 kernel... now on getting ~ 8100 kbps on UCLA3 kernel). I already had the UCLA3 ROM and UCLA modem flashed but the missing piece was this kernel.. very happy with it so far.. great work guys.
I've just applied the kernel through CWM after wiping cache, delvik and battery stats..rebooted and Kernel still shows 2.6.35.11 under "about phone"!!
The patch applied successfully with no errors

Silver, you are a goddamned hero. Thank you good sir!
Thanks UCLA3 radio and kernel work great on stock-rooted odexed 2.3.6 ROM.
CIQ was disabled on my phone before the kernel update, now it's ALL GONE!
Thanks!
Thanks!! Confirmed it works on Alien 5.5. Will have to test and see how it performs. Looks good, till now. Of course, I had flashed the UCLA3 radio on top of Alien 5.5, first.
The only thing is the Alien 5.5 boot animation is gone and you have the AT&T rethink possible wallpaper (no animation), initially I thought it was stuck, but realized the animation is in the boot.img (I am guessing), it does boot up.
Awesome silver, thanks bro.

Just a quick note...
I think I read this somewhere else, but I'll put it here incase it helps someone else. I noticed my bottom 4 touch keys wouldn't light up after flashing the Kernel. I went to settings and saw that they were still set to "stay on" (which I keep that way). I unchecked the box and re-checked it and they only stayed on until I left "settings" and turned off again. I went into Clockwork Mod and "fixed permissions" and all seems to work fine now...lights are lit. Very simple but maybe it will help someone else.
I did pretty much the exact Same thing and my buttons light up as normal.

Seems I spoke too soon. It worked for a while, but then I noticed when I hit the power button "to put the phone to sleep" they sometimes come back on and sometimes don't? I tried fixing permissions and wiped the delvik cache a couple of times already.
I only "wiped the delvik cache" before I installed the kernel. DO you think I need to go back and take some additional steps and try to re-install the Kernel?

Phone randomly rebooting.

This has probably been posted before but im in a hurry and i can't go looking through threads.
My Galaxy randomly reboots, ill be sitting playing ps3 and i see it reboots itself. My friend says its a problem with my kernel, but if it is. How would i fix that? I only know how to flash roms and thats bout it.

I had the same problem. My phone would reboot once a day, at least. Usually, when I was asleep. I was using Val-Final. Since flashing AntonX's OC/UV kernel, I haven't had a single reboot.
hate to dredge up an aging topic, but my wife's t959v has started exhibiting undesirable behavior including momentary freezes while in use and random rebooting. it's running gingerbread kj6 rooted (from lumin30's guide here) with the following details:
firmware 2.3.6
baseband t959vuvkj6
kernel 2.6.35.7-t959vuvkj6-cl694130
build gingerbread.vuvkj6
now i'm infinitely more comfortable flashing kernels and the like with my htc sensation, mostly due to the fact that i don't need to mess around with kies/odin/heimdall. is that AntonX kernel fairly universally seen as a reboot fix? usually i'd dive in and just flash it, but last i heard, cwm restores don't work on the t959v, so i'm a bit wary.
thanks in advance all

The CWM issue was fixed when bhundven started with CWM 5. It's the older version that had an issue. The newer version is in Bryan's & AntonX's kernels and should not be an issue as far as I know.
Flashing Anton's kernel will fix the random reboot issue assuming you're using one of the kernels that exhibited that behavior vs. something else going wrong with the phone. There's a link to it in my signature if you choose to use it.
Good luck

[KERNEL] [JB 4.2/4.2.1] Stock kernel - CWM flashable

Hello all,
I made this over at the GNex forums for a stock GNex 4.2/4.2.1 kernel... here it is for the Nexus 7 for those that accidentally flashed a 4.1.2 kernel or just want to get back to stock.
Flash at your own risk, should work just fine though!
UPDATED: Kernel should work now! Sorry about the bad zip before!
Will it work on 4.1.2? I have AOKP on my device, would like to flash this, just need to check if it's safe...
Cheers

I flashed LeanKernel and then wanted to go back to stock kernel before flashing latest Faux Kernel.
So I have just flashed your kernel but "about tablet" is telling me I still have LeanKernel installed?
If you can overclock then you're still on lean kernel. Either way, I'd suggest a reflash.

It was definetely still on LeanKernel, I tried it twice.
Only issue could be that I was using an older version of TWRP that wasn't updated for 4.2, but it seemed to flash ok.
edit
Ok, tried it again now I have the updated TWRP and the same thing happens...i.e. nothing, it flashes in the normal way but changes nothing.
This is all wrong. The boot.img inside does not match the one from the N7 nakasi factory image and the updater-script is written for the Galaxy Nexus.
Code:
"of=/dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/by-name/boot");
N7 certainly doesn't run OMAP. Flash at your own risk, indeed.
I urge you to take this down and make sure you know you've got it right before you put it up again. Only saving grace here is you were using the platform by-name method (which just plain won't work on the N7) instead of the actual mmc block names or you could have really messed up some peoples' devices.

Can anyone confirm if the kernel listed (jop40c) is the actual kernel used in the stock 4.2.1 system? The build is jop40d, and the question seams to be getting overlooked. I cannot find the stock jop40d 4.2.1 kernel anywhere, and just do not have any interest at this time in flashing the factory image/re-rooting etc. Any help would be appreciated.

This.. I was about to post, my N7 (16g, wifi) is JOP40D as well, not 40C.
Thinking about trying out a custom kernel, but want the stock to fall back on, as it's super stable.

As it turns out, I built a "slightly rooted" JOP40D stock flash kit yesterday (mods to build.prop in boot.img, and su/SuperSU in system.img). I'm posting this reply from that.
I started with the Google JOP40D (grouper) distro to do that. I thought I was going to need to unpack the boot.img from the OP's .zip to do comparisons of the kernels (to answer your question) ... but it turns out that his boot.img has the same MD5 sig as the boot.img from Google's JOP40D... and the OP's updater-script merely flashes boot.img to the /boot partition.
That means one of two things: either the two successive Google releases (for grouper) had identical boot images (which implies identical kernels), or there is some mistake by the OP. (I don't have the 40C distro to check ... only picked up my N7 a few days ago.)
It should work in your specific case though, as you are on JOP40D.
In any event, flashing boot.img is way way more than just a kernel replacement. I haven't looked at it for a while, but I would suppose that Koush's kernel flasher is a much more appropriate technique for switching ONLY the kernel out from underneath an arbitrary ROM.
cheers
That's great info there. I'm searching for the simplicity of just flashing a kernel instead of pushing the entire boot image. Thanks for a step in clarifying this question

[Q] Safestrap help

So recently I got safestrap after being impatient to wait for a bootloader for a tripped 4.3 d2vzw (which I doubt will ever come out). I followed the safestrap directs carefully. I installed the latest 3.71 apk, installed the recovery, and booted to it. Whenever I try to flash any roms though (in a seperate slot of course) it says successful but when I boot nothing happens, it is just black. I can't turn it off or "on" during this unless i pull the battery. I've tried many roms including, CM10, CM11, Paranoid android, synergy, and cleanrom. The only one that stood out was synergy, it had an installer pop up but after it "installed" and i rebooted it did the black screen thing again. I've tried wiping each rom slot every time messing with different options everything. I even flashed the kernal thingy after each one. It just refuses to work. Anybody have any ideas? It would greatly help. I just want my phone with no samsung bloatware and preferably CM11. Thanks

So what would be an example of a touchwiz rom with no bloatware and no samsung root checker? Isn't Synergy one of those?

You can only flash TouchWiz 4.3 roms.
No aosp (cm, aokp, pa, slimkat, etc.)
And no TouchWiz 4.1.2 (hyperdrive, synergy, cleanrom 7, etc.)
just follow the download list and you'll find everything you need.

Thanks

First, be sure to read the safestrap thread thoroughly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2605648
paying special attention to post #11 where it says you can only flash TW 4.3 ROMs using safestrap. So that would be Alliance, Wicked Sensations, CleanROM, MOAR, samstock, old & slow's stock ROM, and Scrosler's stock ROM. Check the development section for all these ROMs. You can't flash any AOSP ROMs, which includes CM, through safestrap.
Edit - Holy schniekies, ninja'd to the max by multiple people I guess I type too slow and put too much info in my post. Good job fellas. I will answer your question about Synergy though. It is still a 4.1.2 ROM as it has not yet been updated to 4.3.

It's not that you're slow and detailed, I've just simply mastered the art of ninja'ing. My uniform should be coming in the mail shortly.
