Phone randomly rebooting. - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

This has probably been posted before but im in a hurry and i can't go looking through threads.
My Galaxy randomly reboots, ill be sitting playing ps3 and i see it reboots itself. My friend says its a problem with my kernel, but if it is. How would i fix that? I only know how to flash roms and thats bout it.

Do you have an sgs4g t959v? What rom r u on? Kernel?

I had the same problem. My phone would reboot once a day, at least. Usually, when I was asleep. I was using Val-Final. Since flashing AntonX's OC/UV kernel, I haven't had a single reboot.

hate to dredge up an aging topic, but my wife's t959v has started exhibiting undesirable behavior including momentary freezes while in use and random rebooting. it's running gingerbread kj6 rooted (from lumin30's guide here) with the following details:
firmware 2.3.6
baseband t959vuvkj6
kernel 2.6.35.7-t959vuvkj6-cl694130
build gingerbread.vuvkj6
now i'm infinitely more comfortable flashing kernels and the like with my htc sensation, mostly due to the fact that i don't need to mess around with kies/odin/heimdall. is that AntonX kernel fairly universally seen as a reboot fix? usually i'd dive in and just flash it, but last i heard, cwm restores don't work on the t959v, so i'm a bit wary.
thanks in advance all

The CWM issue was fixed when bhundven started with CWM 5. It's the older version that had an issue. The newer version is in Bryan's & AntonX's kernels and should not be an issue as far as I know.
Flashing Anton's kernel will fix the random reboot issue assuming you're using one of the kernels that exhibited that behavior vs. something else going wrong with the phone. There's a link to it in my signature if you choose to use it.
Good luck

awesome, great to hear about the newer CWM at the very least we've got two identical t959v phones (mine isn't rebooting randomly, but also isn't a daily use phone, natch) so i'll flash the new nifties on my "disposable" first. thanks much for your help!

No worries. Let me know how it goes or if you need any help.

You can always use the SGS Kernel Flasher from Google Play to flash kernels on our phone as long as you're already rooted. No need to worry about Odin or Heimdall.

This isnt the right section.... Read the rules
And stock rom as in? Try flashing eb 1.04... also make sure u have the right kernel.... You might have downloaded a gb kernel by mistake

Which Trinity kernel are you using? Right now there aren't any listed for stock ROM.
Also as has already been said this should be in a different section.
If he really flashed trinity on a stock rom and that's the only problem then someone should let Morfic know, maybe we can finally get a stock OC kernal, I've been waiting for one since I got the phone.

Yea I did, and the bluetooth issue comes about AFTER overclocking with pimpmycpu. I tried uninstalling but the problem doesn't go away so I went back to stock with Paul's Patch and everything is fine. Kinda sucks because my phone was real fast. Also when Paul's Patch and Trinity are applied together I wasn't getting sound at boot animation and I'm OCD so it did bother me lol
and if you guys are wondering I flashed the 2 following trinity versions: (without paul's patch and still got the bluetooth issue)
Trinity15 G2x - EB1.04 Froyo - EXT4 - Vibrator works, usb mounting might not
Trinity15 G2x - EB104F - EXT4 - vibrator works (new 5/16/2011), possibly usb mounting doesn't work
Usb mounting didn't work but all you need is a Multi-Mount SD card application and you're good.
UPDATE: Just redid my phone to complete stock and it seems that the bluetooth issue is still there, I think I found exactly where it's coming from and has nothing to do with the kernal or the patch. the issue comes up only after I restored my application data and apks with my backup pro so I'm guessing something is corrupt "/
mods...please move this thread
and when someone posts in the wrong section, can we refrain from answering please? all it does is create more clutter.

[Q&A] [ROM] LinuxBozo's Galaxy ROM Hellraiser

Welcome to a new and sick, twisted world
Ever wish you could take one of those nice shiny GalaxyS (i9000) ROMs and flash it to your lovely Infuse? Well now you CAN! Yes, I say GO AHEAD and flash away. With LinuxBozo's magic Hellraiser, you can raise a little hell with any JVQ based i9000 ROM on your Infuse.
How's it work?
Select any JVQ based ROM for the i9000. If you don't know what this is, then this is not for you.
Push your selected ROM to your /sdcard
Download Hellraiser below
Push Hellraiser to your /sdcard
Reboot into Recovery (RED RECOVERY PREFERRED)
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Flash your chosen JVQ ROM
Flash Hellraiser immediately after
Reboot and enjoy your JVQ ROM goodness
PLEASE NOTE: I am not responsible if something goes wrong. Seriously. If you don't flash Hellraiser correctly, you can be left with a phone that needs to be returned to stock with Odin or Heimdall. If you don't know how to do this, this is not for you.
FAQ:
Do I need to disable Voodoo Lagfix?
Nope.
Can I flash JVO/JVR/JVP ROMs as well?
You should be able to, but I only tested with JVQ. So you are on your own there.
Can I flash i9000 Kernels with this?
NO
Can I flash other Infuse Kernels, like Infusion to get OC/UV?
YES. Neat, huh?
Can I flash i9000 CM7 or MIUI with this?
NO. This will only work with Samsung based ROMs
Can I flash Samsung based Captivate ROMs as well?
Has been successfully done by at least one person. Make sure you use a Samsung based Gingerbread ROM.
Which ROM do you recommend?
Which one you choose really is a matter of preference. However, I tested with Sensation from Crysis21: http://is.gd/D5LJm6
How does this work behind the scenes? How is this even possible?
What Hellraiser does is flash in appropriate hardware libraries and userspace applications, and the Infuse specific modem (UCKE3) and kernel. This allows the existing i9000 ROM to work on the Infuse all while still thinking it's an i9000, but addressing the Infuse hardware.

What is Hellraiser? Any links?
I figure it allows you to put i9000 roms on it, but only certain kinds?
Does this allow me to put a fully functional GB rom on my Infuse? If so, how's this different than your work with porting over CM7?
Nice to see another dev is using a Q&A thread. stickied.
Hey man, Great Work!
I was wondering, does HellRaiser works with 100% of the Infuse's hardware?
I'm asking because I am aware you've been fixing the Bluetooth/GPS modules to bring that functionality to CM7.
So, is hellraiser a 100% hardware thing or does it have the same issues with bluetooth and voodoo sound driver than the unofficial CM7?
Thanks in advance and apologies if this question has been addressed somewhere else.

There's more detail in development. Read there, ask here.
Define "fully functional"? With the exception of HDMI and data speed issues in some areas, ROMs derived from the Rogers Gingerbread release were fully functional.
Since the low-level video/audio/etc stuff from Hellraiser is derived from that same ROM, the same limitations apply.
But it lets you take any i9000 ROM based on the Samsung Gingerbread release (tested with an XXJVQ-based ROM) and use it on the Infuse.
It will NOT work for getting anything CM7-based from the i9000 to work. CM7 has a very different low-level architecture than Samsung ROMs (which is, for example, why Bluetooth still isn't working in CM7 on the Infuse.)
I'm sure LB will still be working CM7, but every once in a while you need to take a break and do something else. LB, gtg, and Mikey have been working this off and on for a few weeks. CM7 was getting more focus, but there's only so much bashing your head against the CG2900 driver that a man can take before you go do something else for a bit. Hellraiser is the result of LB taking a break from Bluetooth.
It works AMAZING. It opens up a world of i9000 and Captivate roms for us to flash.
So far Blockbuster, Mosaic, and Darky's worked perfect.
Hellraiser
would somebody mind posting the full mediafire link for hellraiser please ... for some reason the is.gd link isn't working for me. Ty.

Yes. It's quite a bit easier to go from Samsung ROM to Samsung ROM than it is switching over to something that's completely open source like CM7. Samsung uses many closed source drivers, which we can drop into other Samsung ROMs based around the original GalaxyS platform, like the i9000 and the Captivate.
Thanks

Would love to hear feedback from people on why they like the ROM they have chosen.
Right now Infused 2.0.2 has been my ROM of choice because it's fast and I can't find a single thing wrong with it but if there's a compelling reason to check out some of the i9000 ROMs I might do so!
Also kudos to LB this is a really clever idea

I am running the one LB was running, Sensation. I gotta say its soo much smoother than 2.0.x.... I was on 2.0.1 through 4... and they just didnt seem to be right.. gtg knows his stuff but until GB is official on our phones this is the next best thing right now. battery life is awesome also, been unplugged since 3am its 1pm now, with calls, bt, wifi im at 75%
Infused is one of the best roms that I've ever used, fast, great battery life. But, I had a Captivate before that. And just seeing those Cappy roms on our big screen is neat. Nothing life-changing, just neat. If you're a tinkerer and enjoy playing around with roms, this is a must.

I would say that yes, if you reboot into recovery manually, and took a backup directly in Red CWM it would. I wouldn't trust Rom Manager to do it for you.

[Q] How to choose a ROM?

This is what I call a "high class problem". With so many ROMs to choose from, how does a noob like me decide. Aside from stability, we all probably have different wants and needs.
Can anyone who's checked out the majority of the available ROMs give the rest of us a rundown on the pros and cons of each ROM?
For myself, I'm looking for:
1. Basic
2. Reversible
3. No known issues with wifi, sms, battery drain, ciq, marketplace, etc.
Which one should I pic?

its close. if i have time this weekend you will see something drop. i have a few more tweaks i want to do before i consider it ready. internally, im already up to beta8, lol. i hope to have beta10 release as an RC1 for everyone.
From what I seen so far I seen no reason to try them though somebody has to or they never get fully debugged.
Some of the ROMs are AT&T only ..... sorry got SGH-I727R
Some of them do have Rogers ROMs but I read of Sleep of Death and losing LTE connection..... sorry too buggy and I NEED LTE or I would of got the Galaxy Nexus.
Finally what I really want is ICS and NOT ICS themed ROMs
None of them are for me but I check everyday when a ICS ROM comes out I will try it.
Finally I recommend you NEVER try Roms if you are not sure that you can restore.
I have backuped my ROMs, Apps and Data, APNs I am 95% certain I can recover from anything.
For that other 5% I have Odin and the orginal Rogers ROM
Just to agree with everyone else, you've got to try them out. There's no harm in it as long as you've done your nandroid back up, you're pretty safe when it comes to reverting back to your previous ROM and settings.
Reading the features and change logs for each of them helps alot... but it still doesn't give you a full grasp of what it has to offer until you flash and test it.

[Q] NEED HELP - Infuse 4G not booting up after 1.8 kernel installed

I have a Samsung Infuse 4G, rooted, CWM installed and just flashed the OC/UV kernel (v1.8) and rebooted. My phone has been stuck on the Samsung screen for 15-20 min now. Any advise?
Hi there, if you are able to get into download mode then you shouldn't have a problem restoring your phone back to stock. Also I think you bricked your phone.
Try getting into download mode by pulling out the battery insert it. Then while holding down both the buttons on the volume rocker and insert your USB. Make sure kies is installed for the drivers.
Maybe try flashing another Kernel before going to the step below.
Also you may check back here to unbrick your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
Source: I've had this happen to me, its no biggie.
Thanks Sarius24. I did brick it however I was able to load the ROM I installed last night. Now I'm doing a restore from a backup I took just before doing the kernel flash so hopefully it comes back up. It was strange b/c I tried doing just a restore first and it did not work. It still got stuck on the Samsung screen.
That's a froyo kernel and it's not the most recent one either. Also it's not actually 1.8 GHz it was an issue with clock reporting. The hummingbird is not capable of more than 1.6 GHz without bus overclocking which causes more issues and even at 1.6 you need profiles because running GPS and the 3g radio will cause too much heat (my phone used to crash running google navigation but with newer modems and GB it might not be an issue) . many can run 1.6 on wifi with good stability but it's all overrated anyway.
If you are on GB you need a GB kernel. If you are on froyo you need a froyo kernel. If you are on aosp (CM7/MIUI) the included kernel has overclocking.

Thanks for the info Dani897. I'm using Numas vOne ROM and not sure if I'm actually on GB. I think I am. Here's the info -
Firmware version 2.3.6
Baseband version 1997UCKJ2
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-1997RUXKG3-CL366622
Is there a OC kernel for GB? I've not had any luck finding one. I've been searching the forums for a while.
Yes you are on GB ....2.2.xx=froyo, 2.3.xx =GB ..

So where can I get an OC kernel for GB? Do I even need a kernel? I tried using SetCPU (before flashing the 1.8 kernel) and it gave me errors when I tried to run it.
Type "Infusion gingerbread" into the search box in the Dev section. The one that says "search this thread," not the assisted google search on the top of the screen.
I'd give a link but it's annoying from my phone.

If you don't know any of this stuff you shouldn't be flashing!
Start searching, researching and read before attempting something you know nothing of.
YES you Need a kernel
YES you Need a modem
NO you don't Have to be OCed
YES the infuse can be OCed
YES you need compatible kernel to rom build match up I.e. GB to GB and Froyo to froyo not GB to froyo and vice versa.

Can't handle someone speaking the truth huh?? He really is right. You didn't even know if you were on froyo or GB. Please read more. Yes Bignate came across as a rude ass but he's telling you the truth. People don't sugar coat crap around here.

Well I'm not looking for sugar coating but I don't put up with bull**** either. I'm just starting out with this so forgive me if I'm a bit ignorant. I honestly doubt if you or bignate or ANYONE on these forums knew everything there was to know about flashing ROMs or OCing 3 days after you got your first Android. Correct me if I'm wrong please. I doubt I am.
I've been on enough of these threads to know there is always someone out there that just replies to piss people off. bignate is one of them. I chose to ignore him and not pander to his ego.
I'm not saying anymore on this. The whole reason I blocked bignate is because I didn't want to get into some bull**** chest-beating contest with some wise-ass.

For one I didn't try to flash anything on my first android which was a captivate, till I Researched my Ass off so I wouldn't brick or ruin my phone! I'm not trying to get into a chest beating contest but when you start asking if you even need a kernel just clearly shows you have no clue what your doing. Two ,almost every thread says so to read before attempting and also states which system its runs with or for .
But hey, whatever floats your boat kiddo

Not sure if its just me but wifi is showing up as error. I tried redownloading and fixing permissions problem still their.

This kernel is for BML roms. Wifi calling works on those roms because they are stock based.
I'm new to this phone and not sure what bml is or what its used for and is this kernel for ics based roms

New to this phone or not. Search is the best feature on XDA.
If it's not BML, it's MTD. Search the Q&A forum for MTD. There you will find a thread by eollie which quotes the epicmtd thread and a post of mine... here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699506
(yes, I have answered this question a billion times. Why, because no one searches.)
Edit: No, this will not work with MTD roms, like CM7, CM9, AOKP, SlimICS, etc... This will work with Valhalla, Valhalla Black, Unnamed, Stock UVKJ6 based roms.

Yes read op.
I first want to than you for your support on a "update for a BML kernel".
i think it belongs in dev but still don't have enough posts to post.
I ran into a few issues with no log cat because of hardware freeze.
1st Tegrak will not load module for custom tweaks. Hardware failure vibrates indefinitely, and battery pull needed. works fine if you don't try and tweak. running 1.4 GHz without optimization works fine but can't underclock because of issue. the screen freezes and becomes pixilated.
restoring from nano backup finishes but stays at gs4g boot screen for t mobile
nano restore might be user error. i just factory reset and restored from there using the one click. restoring nano after one clicking resulted in same boot screen freeze as original
im sorry i don't have log cats but i hope i can provide further information if requested.
running latest Valhalla Black Edition with 1.3 OC undervolted
created backup with VB kernel recovery
booted fine with first flash of kernel running at 1.4
tried tegrak to underclock 1.4 and hardware froze with pixilation of screen in very light but noticable amount
reboot
wifi fix didn't work with flashing with cwm, suceeded with flash just no end result
tried to recover using cwm recovery with modded kernel caused boot freeze
one clicked back with no problems
i love this forum and want to try and provide feedback when possible, thank you for all you have accomplished over the years and i can't wait to see the perfect kernel and modem for ics. FB i love the AOKP. Unicorn Power!!! thank you all for all of your awesome work.
Ughhhh..... Lets break this one down, bit by bit.

You probably forgot to wipe data/factory reset or something...

Tegrak will not work. This kernel is already OC/UV. You just need setcpu or rom toolbox to set the cpu speed.

nano backup only backs up the kernel. Don't use it!

I don't even understand this stuff. You should work on making yourself more clear with ENGLISH grammar. Spell check helps too. Not trying to be a jerk, it's just hard as hell to read.

ugh... then say that in the aokp thread, not here.
My crystal ball says: you are younger then 17yo.
You just cleared up a bunch of crap for me... no I'm not 17 I'm 23... was just tired and my battery doesnt hold a charge on the laptop, it shut off a few times before I could post. That was some info and things I had installed and tried to do... Like I said probably user error, I was extremely tired and forgot to wipe my phone first... Ill try and learn from my mistakes. And I'm sorry I forget there is a thanks button...

I'm just saying. Everything you type is one long run-on sentence.
Notice how I break mine up.
It makes what you are saying easier to convey to others.
Don't worry. I was tired and grumpy
So what we learned:
Type like you're writing a letter
Don't use nano backup
Download alogcat/alogrec
Wiping cache and dalvik is fine, don't always need to wipe data, but sometimes you do.
I get grumpy sometimes too
Is this the kind of battery life we can expect for the mtd version of this kernel and/or the aries kernel port? I noticed this does have some things from aries (per Github History). The battery life with this kernel is epic, better than anything else I've used.
Thanks,
David
We don't know what kind of battery life you will expect from the ICS kernel because no one has tested the ICS kernel because bryan hasn't finished creating it yet. If and when it's released you'll get to see what kind of battery life you get with the way you use your own phone.

There is a reason for calling this kernel BlastOff. It's going to go through the galaxy of snacks Google has named their Android releases. It's starting off on Planet Gingerbread, BML style.
Eventually, if the stars align, it will end up reincarnated as MTD on Planet Gingerbread.
After reincarnation, it will head towards planet ICS... and on and on...
For now, we are still packing the ship with goodies. OC/UV, governers, I/O schedulers, mmc changes, and bcm4329 have already been packed. But I'm still adding more!
So for the medium term, this kernel will stay BML. You may see me experiment with MTD, but I would stay away from that stuff and stick with the BML kernel for now.
Enjoy my naming scheme.

No need for that kind of reply, I was simply asking a question. From what I can tell, this does use bits and pieces from Aries and that's what prompted the question. I didn't ask for an eta or anything to that affect. I also know that battery life is dependent on usage, but I know for a fact that on gingerbread the standby time is leaps and bounds better than what we have for ics (currently) (for most users) . It's even been mentioned that the kernel for ics had some battery draining issues by Bryan himself.

That "kind of reply" was merited. Like I said in that post, we're not gonna know how the battery will be until the kernel gets created and tested. I can give you a prediction and tell you that it'll last you 10 days with heavy usage but I may be wrong.
We won't know until we test it.
BTW, unnamed - bhundven edition has been posted to the teamacid github.
I'm not making an official zip yet, as we have some bugs still to work out, but if you want a rom to play around with the new kernel, git clone it and run the mkzip.sh.
Let me know what you think, if you feel so daring
(again, disclaimer, I'm not responsible for messing your phone up, thats your problem. This rom has been tested and won't brick you, unless you do something stupid. This rom will not work with any other kernel, for now.)
