Hey guys,
I'm a little bit confused. Which forum should I follow in order to get custom roms on my Sensation XE? Should I follow the Sensation forums, or the Sensation XL forums? I know that the XE isn't available in the US, but surely there are roms for the XE as well?
Sensation XE is the same as Sensation.

My CPU says it's clocked @ 1.5GHz as standard ...
What happens " If " we put a custom ROM on.? - Standard Sensation is clocked @ 1.2GHz
I'd like the new ROM to be the same speed when I check the phone, or even better if possible.?

The majority of Sensation ROMs are set to 1.5GHz since the XE came out.
I'd suggest Android Revolution HD

Yeah, I was planning on Revolution HD, those guys always do great stuff.
I do have a question though. What about my phone's firmware? I just got my Sensation XE today (sealed) so do I need to downgrade or upgrade to a certain firmware?

one click root, worked fine first time for me on XE
if you have any issues, come back and check on XDA but it will no doubt be fine...
You should first root your phone. Use the link from the member above me. then use Android Revolution HD Rom. Those are excellent better battery life, etc...

How come alot of the custom ROMs are switching from the HTC one s/x ruu s to the HTC ville ruu? What are the advantages of one over the other? HTC one S ruu seemed to work just fine

I suppose the One series based ROMs are more stable with lesser bugs.
But the Ville is based on the latest firmware thus making it the most up to date version.
The major problem that has come up in the new ROMs based on the ville RUU is the hardware acceleration issue.
This seems more of a development announcement than a general announcement, so I've posted this here. Mods, if this needs to be moved to the General section, I apologize.

It seems that HTC can't get their hands on enough S4 processors, so they're shipping the HTC One S to "select markets" built with the S3 clocked at 1.7GHz. Any hope that this will solve some of the bugs with the current batch of Sense 4 ROMs for the Sensation?

The RUU for this phone is what all the Sense 4.0 ROMs are based off of.
Right, he's asking if the new RUU that will come out with this phone supporting the S3 processor will make any of our bugs on those roms a little easier to deal with/fix.
This is gonna be a mess for HTC, there will be a performance diff between the two, regardless of the processor over clock to 1.7ghz... People who end up with the S3 processor and know the diff between that and the S4 are gonna throw tizzy fits.
So do u mean we can use the one s Rom instead of the Ville c rom???

This means there is a possibility that the One S based roms will run better.

HTC have released an Android 4.0.4 ROM with Sense 4.1 for Ville C2 and thanks to Football we now have a link for it

When we thought they were going to leak a JB rom here is the old 4.0.4... Every update is welcome of course but maybe this is a sad sign of no real plan of a jb upgrade for ville c2. Maybe this is a sop given to ville c2 users just to do not them leave without upgrades while s4 users will get jb...

Hang on a sec, "old 4.0.4"? Ville C2 never had 4.0.4 until today. Even One X doesn't have an official JB RUU yet, only test releases. S4 version of One S only has 4.0.4, no test releases for JB at all.

Yes, I meant "old" because s4 got 4.0.4 time ago, and the new os is 4.1.2... 4.0.4 for s3 is almost matching the timing of new JB for s4.
Isn't ViperS already based off the S3 Sense 4 rom? Or is this just special because it's Sense 4.1 with 4.0.4 for S3? Will this be easier to port into a completely working Sense 4.1 rom for Sensation than the current base used for ViperS?

It's not Sense 4.1 - they are deluding you, it has the Rosie.apk from S4 version of One S and that is the only Sense 4.1 feature I am aware of in that ROM. As for android 4.0.4, no it has android 4.0.3 libs and maybe up to 90% of the framework is 4.0.3 - I do not know the exact percentages but what little 4.0.4 code there is comes from the Ville RUU (One S S4 variant)

Porting uses mostly libs from the devices the RUU is meant for (with the exception of hardware specific libs such as Bluetooth and kernel libs) but yes it is possible to use 3.33.401.153 files as the ones that are used for the target device.
This is what myself and mikrosmile will be doing for our ROM - the annoying thing is we spent nearly a month attempting to get our sense 4.1 ROM based off Ville S4 into a stable condition and just when its nearly ready, this is released

In response to your reply Johnny, I wasn't asking about ViperS. I was asking if THIS ruu was special because it's Sense 4.1 with android 4.0.4 for the S3 processor, I was also asking if this ruu would make for a better (fully working?) port of Sense 4+ for the Sensation. The only thing I really asked about the ViperS Rom was if it was already based off an S3 Ruu, I am now assuming its based off an S4 ruu.

ViperS 1.3.5 is based off the S3 Android 4.0.3 Sense 4 1.11.x RUU
There is no current port of Sense 4+ because Sense 4+ is only on JellyBean and the only device to have JellyBean is the One X. It's not worth porting anything from the One X because everything needs to be resized. Sense 4+ is actually Sense 4.5 but for some bizarre reason HTC decided last minute to name it as Sense 4+
This RUU will allow better ports of Sense 4.1 and yes this RUU is special because it is Sense 4.1 and Android 4.0.4 for the S3 variant of the One S

HTC just uploaded the Ville_C2 jelly bean kernel sources. For those that don't already know it is the One S with the sensations processor in it, the msm8x60.

I'm pretty sure that even with the same processor, kernel source for another device is quite useless to us.
If I'm wrong someone with kernel dev'ing experience please tell me so!
EDIT: Even if I am wrong, my nexus 7 is only at 3.1.10, officially and on every custom kernel. I find it hard to believe 3.4.10 could get ported to the sensation without a very, very substantial amount of work and hackery.

Porting 3.4.10 code for the VilleC2 to the Sensation is very possible. The only reason why it's possible is because the Sensation and the VilleC2 have the same chipset. I've even built a kernel for the Sensation using VilleC2 source and it booted.

This definitely has ion. The 4.0.4 sources for the villec2 had it aswell. Also as a bonus this kernel may score us powered OTG. The stuff has always been there but was dissabled in the source due to hardware concerns. It doesn't require the charging chip we discussed in the otg thread. The 8660 has the ability on chip.
