hello guys,
my desire s worked fine with IceColdSandwich-8.3-Linaro-Perfecto-Edition, but i still wanted to try a new rom.
first of all i went from cwm5.0.2.0 to 4ext 1.0.0.5 rc6. and wanted to flash JellyTime_CM10_Saga_R15.0-BLINDNDUMB.
i did a full wipe (except sdcard), flash the rom, flash gapps, flash the boot.img via fastboot. but i had a bootloop at all, dunno why. so i decided to restore my backup, which doesnt work because of ''error while formatting /system!''
after all my phone dont want to boot, it stops after htc logo and i have a black screen.
is there any help for my telephone?^^

i unlocked my phone via htcdev
best regards
What happens if you go to recovery and try to manually format system?
You could try wiping system and installing another stock ROM and the correct boot
although you said that you unlocked via htcdev but you're s-off so you're clearly downgraded and unlocked via revolutionary

if i go to recovery it says ''ATTn: recovery is in safe mode this is becasue the following partition is not accessible:"system"
please enter the wipe menu and format system!
if u changed hboot you should choose to format all partitions (except sdcard)
afterwards pls reboot recovery''
if im trying to format /system it says :"
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p25
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p25

I'm afraid that I suspect you've a corrupt Emmc card, and I'm not sure if there is a resolution for it that I'm aware of, so I'm out of my depth now and not sure what to suggest next, sorry, hopefully some one else will?

Only options are warranty return.or paid fix, but if out of warranty, probably best to put the money towards getting a new replacement upgrade device, HOX or SGS3

is there any way to boot from sdcard?
whatever i'm going to buy a desire x at the end of the month at all...

I would have to agree with Ben's comment about the eMMC If it is then you might find it worth having a look at this thread [GUIDE] How to run SD version of CM7.1 on HTC Desire S (fried emmc chips too)
If you feel really brave then you could try to replace the eMMC chip yourself. Amidabuddha recommended these guys part4repair
Also, if you've got nothing to lose, I'd be tempted to try the stupid things just to make sure;-
flash new hBoot
flash new copy of 4Ext recovery
try installing a full RUU to burn everything
if you have unlocked bootloader, you must flash boot on fastboot after install custom rom. include in custom rom zip.

nahh no problem dude, i know what its like to soft brick your phone so ill help to the best of my knowledge. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126631 it's here. on teddy's first post. so pretty much, you would download it, put it onto your phone which is the /sdcard part, then 'flash it' (fancy word for install) by going into cwm mode, and going to install .zip from sd card, find the cwm3xx file at the bottom, then flash it. THEN it'll pop up a 'new' cwm mode and from there factory reset, reset the cache, go to advance and erace dalvil cahe and check your mounts, then flash the new rom..if your trying to flash a rom that is lol. if you have questions post away!
oh and i think this should go in the general section.
Im stuck on the Sidekick/Tmobile/Samsung screen now and it will vibrate once, then 3 times then wait 3 seconds then vibrate once then 3 times etc.. WHy?? is it bricked now?

Yup, that kept happening to me.. Im gonna try and install this cmw now.. By the way, do i still have to check the mounts and storage because i've successfully installed the maximus rom gingerclone. Do i have to check mounts and storage everytime i need to flash a rom, if so what should they be, as far as Data, sd card, cache, and system etc..?

no you do not have to check!
Yes you do need to check! Not checking is what makes you soft-brick.
it should read:
System: Unmount
Data: Unmount
Cache: Unmount
Anything else isn't an issue.
Don't worry about the errors reading that cache file, they happen to everyone, it's part of the kernel.

I am getting this error on my sidekick 4G
E:format_volume: make extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure
i was trying to upgrade to Lite'ning ROM but it gave me this error, i did already ODIN to stock and it did not work and what i mean by it did not worked i did get to stock and started from scratch but still getting the same errror..... any other suggestions?
Don't worry about that error, that just means that you don't have an android secure partition on your sdcard. nothing to worry about.
I don't see why red CWM would be any different from Orange CWM in having to check mounts... I always check my mounts, and have always had to.
well u say not to worry but i can't update the rom to the lightning rom b/c i cannot factory reset, if i don't factory reset, phone bricks
You don't have to factory reset, just make sure you check your mounts. that's why it's bricking.
ok... so what are the mounts?

You will find in the OP (original post #1) there is a step:
CWM Final
http://www.krylon360.com/file_host/sk4g/update.zip
Place in the root of your SD.
After your in clockwork mod recovery (orange) (and have downloaded the update.zip to sd card) make the selection: -apply sdcard:update.zip (this will load cwm again (red cwm)
Now: reattempt!
I have an Inspire 4G. I've been running AndroidRevolution 5.6.2 for awhile now, probably 6 months. It's been running great so I haven't had any reason to mess with it. Today it locked up for no reason (no changes, no new apps, etc). It wouldn't boot beyond the "HTC Quietly Brilliant" splash screen.
I jumped into HBoot and then into CWM (version 2.1.3 RC2). I tried wiping Cache and Dialvik cache and rebooting with the same results.
I then tried a "Fix Permissions" with the same results.
I then tried a "Factory Reset". This time it seemed to give the same results, but when I tried to go back into CWM it loops... it loads the file system list at the bottom below the menu, flashes black, then does it again over and over again. I can control the menus (vol up/down, power) for the split second that they are available but then CWM just restarts, over and over again.
I was going to try Gene Poole Factory Reset tool, but it states that the /cache need to be EXT3 and mine is EXT4.
Is there any hope for me? How can I either get back to stock or at least a working CWM (3.0.2.6 or newer) to load AndroidRevolution 6.3.1?
Please help!

Download the Ace hack kit and take the CWM image in the folder tools/recovery. Rename it PD98IMG.zip and then copy it to the root of your SD card. Boot into Hboot and when prompted press volumen up. That will flash a new recovery image. Then try flashing a new Rom from the CWM...
You shouldn't have made a factory reset without flashing a new Rom.

In the Inspire 4G General forum there is a thread right at the top that explains how to deal with this type of problem. Marsdta also provides links to a Recovery img already in PD98IMG.zip format as well as flashable stock RUUs. That should get you back up and running.
I got a good Recovery installed (CWM 5.0.2.6). From there I ran SuperWipe which completed fine. Next I tried installing the AndroidRevolution 6.3.1 ROM and it failed with "Insallation Aborted" and "Status 7". After that, trying to Super Wipe or install the ROM fails and reports "Status 1". I'm trying to re-format the SD card and re-download the ROM right now. Any other tips?
Thanks in advance!

Try flashing some other rom. Maybe the file is corrupted...try installing RCmix3D or Coredroid or maybe some other rom and see what happens.
I'm getting a lot of errors in CMW along the lines of "E:Can't Mount /cache/recover/log" and "E:Can't Open /cache/recovery/log". When I try to run Super Wipe I also get "(cache is unmounted alread)". Is there some problem with how my cache is formatted, mounted, or something like that? When I try to Mount /cache manualy I get "Error mounting /cache!".
Thanks again.

Tried that just now. Got as far as

assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img" . "boot")
E:Error in /sdcard/Android_Revolution_HD-4G_6.3.1.zip

Is there anything special I need to do in regards to formatting the SD card beyond FAT32 and full format (not quick)?

Do the following....try to change SD card, and don't flash Android Revolution...try to flash this:
http://rcmix3d.blogspot.com/2011/11/rcmix3d-runny-v40.html
Flash that rom to see what happens. Two options, or the zip file you are trying to flash is corrupted or the SD card is having issues...try the rom I posted, if is not working then try with another SD card....that should solve the problem
Formatting the SD card is a possible way of solving corrupted patitions....
Tried this. Flash of the rom seems to have completed but wouldn't boot beyond white HTC screen. Rebooted and still wouldn't boot past white HTC screen. Re-entered CWM, cleared data, tried flash again. This time the flash seemed to load correctly but now I can't even power on... complete brick...
Is there any chance to save my phone?

Ummmm...things are not good. But I heard that if the partitons are corrupted then you are lost. Try leaving the phone with no battery for a while. Then try to boot it...and see what happens. If it boots butvis still stuck in hboot, then return to stock with Gene Pole's tool and make a warranty claim. If you cannot even turn it on...then do the same. But if your carrier finds out you jhave been messing with your cell then you won't get much...

Total brick. Had to be hardware failure that initiated the downward spiral. Luckily I have an ATT DCS Center nearby and the swapped the phone out with a new(ish) one within about 3 minutes of troubleshooting. Thanks again for all the help. Not sure what ROM to flash to the new phone, though all I really want is tethering... Is there anything else out there as "stock" as Android Revolution HD 6.3.1?

Well you can just root the phone and maintain the stock rom...or there is ERBUS ROM that is just stock but without ATT bloatware and some other stuff...anyway you can just check some other roms and decide by yourself...there is no correct answer for that!! glad u solved it.
Noob A la VISTA!! Long story SHORT HTC Sensation bought downloaded an application went to erase it thru a File Manager and def deleted a wrong folder cause after that HTC started rebooting non stop. Rooted the phone installed CWR thru revolutionary CM7 thinking it was a software problem booted the phone and when on FASTBOOT the phone starts scanning the sdk and reads:
SD loading
-PG58diag.zip
-PG58diag.nbh
-PG58IMG.zip
-.nbh
-.tar
-.aec
-.enc
and No image for each one of it.... is this the cause of the HTC keeps rebooting btw the screen reads:
Revolution
Pyramid PVT ShipS-off RL
HBoot- 1.17.1111
Radio- 10.14.9035.01_m
eMMC boot
so what should I do to fix therebooting issue and the no image file etc?? thanks for any help in advance!!!!
Just a guess but you could try removing the microsd card from the phone and rebooting.
removed the card... rebooted... htc went into custom ROM... but now freezes up constantly and reboots... any way to fix this or should i start from the beginnign all over again from root??
easiest thing to do would be to reinstall the rom. most roms don't wipe user data, so go into fastboot, choose recovery and re-install the rom from the sd card and wipe cache and dalvik cache.
that's really all you can do at this point. even if it does erase your phone data (not sd card data like photos, videos, etc), its better than not having a working phone.
You could try using one of the Super Wipe ROMs, and then reinstall the custom ROM that you want to use. Also, make sure that you've applied one of the 3.12 firmware images if you're trying to use one of the ICS custom ROMS
super wipe roms? i waas trying the cyanogen mode 7 for htc sensation... have clockwork recovery btw if the phone freezes up on CWR what typ of issue could it be?...

where can i find the firmware and rom's?
Hey guys,
The problem all started last week when I encrypted my tf300. For some reason it did not occur to me that this would be an issue when I started the process of rooting today. I used the asus bootloader unlocking tool and got fastboot to work long enough to flash cwm but when I tried to flash from sdcard it said that it cant mount sdcard. This is where I messed up. I realized that I needed to format data so that I could unencrypt. Booted to cwm and formatted system and the two others that are there but it refused to format data. Now it boots to the Asus screen and recovery does not mount sd. fastboot devices list is empty same with adb devices.
Any ideas??
Thank you
So I guess my question is how do I erase or format data partition so that i can flash a rom.
any help is appreciated.
thanks
Switch on with power + VOL down then VOL Down, then VOL Down twice to move across to WIPE DATA, VOL Up or power should select it for you.

Ah you will probably need the standard recovery image as there is probably some lock on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668173
You will need to ask XpLoDWilD for it then flashboot it back onto there and try again?
ok ill give this a try. hopefully i can get fastboot to flash the image. i had a hard time getting clockworkmod on there.

Hello Everyone
To flash a new ROM you can do as follows:
boot in Recovery
format cache partition
from your PC use adb to mount /sdcard as tmpfs:
adb shell mount -t tmpfs none /sdcard
put your ROM on the (fake) sdcard
adb push <your rom> /sdcard
use the recovery to flesh the ROM as usual
This worked form me.

I am not very familiar with adb and fastboot i have only used it a couple times and this is when im being led through it by some forum on xda.

from what i have seen this is a driver issue?
i have used this same stuff to help root my phone a while back. could that be an issue?
i tried the commands while the device was in recovery and while in fastboot mode.

Reading from that thread the only way to wipe encrypted image is if you boot into it, not sure the standard recovery will do it
When I found out that the encryption was the problem I tried to do a factory reset in the settings and it just booted me into clockworkmod. I should have just flashed stock recovery then.... lesson learned.
I hope I didnt make an expensive paperweight.

Stay on TWRP 2.3.3.1 as all versions above have issues wiping.

All Roms are pre-rooted unless otherwise stated so no need to flash superuser.zip unless you are trying to root the stock software preinstalled on your phone.
If you want to flash a ROM, this is the procedure:
Download ROM
Check MD5 or SHA to make sure its a clean download
- If hboot is greater than or equal to 1.14 and S-ON - extract the boot.img from the ROM
Copy Rom to your phone if you didnt download it on your phone
Boot to recovery
Wipe cache, dalvik cache, system, factory reset
Install the ROM.

- If hboot is greater than or equal to 1.14 and S-ON - reboot to bootloader, fastboot flash boot boot.img (the one extracted from the rom)
Reboot phone.
