[Q] Help! I think im bricked - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
The problem all started last week when I encrypted my tf300. For some reason it did not occur to me that this would be an issue when I started the process of rooting today. I used the asus bootloader unlocking tool and got fastboot to work long enough to flash cwm but when I tried to flash from sdcard it said that it cant mount sdcard. This is where I messed up. I realized that I needed to format data so that I could unencrypt. Booted to cwm and formatted system and the two others that are there but it refused to format data. Now it boots to the Asus screen and recovery does not mount sd. fastboot devices list is empty same with adb devices.
Any ideas??
Thank you

So I guess my question is how do I erase or format data partition so that i can flash a rom.
any help is appreciated.
thanks

Switch on with power + VOL down then VOL Down, then VOL Down twice to move across to WIPE DATA, VOL Up or power should select it for you.

when I select wipe data the device boots to clocworkmod recovery.

Ah you will probably need the standard recovery image as there is probably some lock on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668173
You will need to ask XpLoDWilD for it then flashboot it back onto there and try again?

ok ill give this a try. hopefully i can get fastboot to flash the image. i had a hard time getting clockworkmod on there.
thank you

I've been flashing recoveries all day and had no issues with it.

Did you format:
System,
Cache,
Staging
Data
then wipe cache
then data/factory reset
then advanced and wipe dalvik

i was able to format system cache and staging but when i try to format data it says:
error mounting /data!
skipping format...
done.
says something similar when i try to mount sdcard so that i can flash .zip files

Have you tried Factory reset from the main menu?

when I choose wipe data/factory reset i get:
--wiping data...
formatting /data...
error mounting /data!
skipping format...
formatting /cache...
formatting /sd-ext
formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...
error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
skipping format...
data wipe complete.

Standard recovery might let you wipe it.
Just had a look on XDA and this might help you?

Hello Everyone
To flash a new ROM you can do as follows:
boot in Recovery
format cache partition
from your PC use adb to mount /sdcard as tmpfs:
adb shell mount -t tmpfs none /sdcard
put your ROM on the (fake) sdcard
adb push <your rom> /sdcard
use the recovery to flesh the ROM as usual
This worked form me.

i am going to start by apologizing for being such a noob. Thank you so much for your help.
I am not very familiar with adb and fastboot i have only used it a couple times and this is when im being led through it by some forum on xda.
when i run the first line i get
error: device not found
from what i have seen this is a driver issue?
i have used this same stuff to help root my phone a while back. could that be an issue?
i tried the commands while the device was in recovery and while in fastboot mode.
thanks again

Reading from that thread the only way to wipe encrypted image is if you boot into it, not sure the standard recovery will do it

When I found out that the encryption was the problem I tried to do a factory reset in the settings and it just booted me into clockworkmod. I should have just flashed stock recovery then.... lesson learned.
I hope I didnt make an expensive paperweight.

Yours is a bit more difficult but I have managed to mount and push files in recovery to my sd card.
Need to work out how to format yours now.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

could there be a way to partition and do some sort of "dual-boot"
just a random idea.

nahh no problem dude, i know what its like to soft brick your phone so ill help to the best of my knowledge. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126631 it's here. on teddy's first post. so pretty much, you would download it, put it onto your phone which is the /sdcard part, then 'flash it' (fancy word for install) by going into cwm mode, and going to install .zip from sd card, find the cwm3xx file at the bottom, then flash it. THEN it'll pop up a 'new' cwm mode and from there factory reset, reset the cache, go to advance and erace dalvil cahe and check your mounts, then flash the new rom..if your trying to flash a rom that is lol. if you have questions post away!
oh and i think this should go in the general section.
Im stuck on the Sidekick/Tmobile/Samsung screen now and it will vibrate once, then 3 times then wait 3 seconds then vibrate once then 3 times etc.. WHy?? is it bricked now?

Yup, that kept happening to me.. Im gonna try and install this cmw now.. By the way, do i still have to check the mounts and storage because i've successfully installed the maximus rom gingerclone. Do i have to check mounts and storage everytime i need to flash a rom, if so what should they be, as far as Data, sd card, cache, and system etc..?

no you do not have to check!
Yes you do need to check! Not checking is what makes you soft-brick.
it should read:
System: Unmount
Data: Unmount
Cache: Unmount
Anything else isn't an issue.
Don't worry about the errors reading that cache file, they happen to everyone, it's part of the kernel.

terra i'm having the same problem you are. keep this thread in mind http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214432 hopefully i'll be getting a response soon. orange cwm is my nightmare
Please help!
I am getting this error on my sidekick 4G
E:format_volume: make extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure
i was trying to upgrade to Lite'ning ROM but it gave me this error, i did already ODIN to stock and it did not work and what i mean by it did not worked i did get to stock and started from scratch but still getting the same errror..... any other suggestions?
Don't worry about that error, that just means that you don't have an android secure partition on your sdcard. nothing to worry about.
I don't see why red CWM would be any different from Orange CWM in having to check mounts... I always check my mounts, and have always had to.
well u say not to worry but i can't update the rom to the lightning rom b/c i cannot factory reset, if i don't factory reset, phone bricks
You don't have to factory reset, just make sure you check your mounts. that's why it's bricking.
ok... so what are the mounts?

Please see thread: [RECOVERY] CWM for the SK4G. Enjoy!
You will find in the OP (original post #1) there is a step:
CWM Final
http://www.krylon360.com/file_host/sk4g/update.zip
Place in the root of your SD.
After your in clockwork mod recovery (orange) (and have downloaded the update.zip to sd card) make the selection: -apply sdcard:update.zip (this will load cwm again (red cwm)
Now: reattempt!

[Q] Can't wipe DATA -- FIXED

Hi:
I am quite worried, because my Xoom is unable to boot normally. I have EOS Nightly 99 installed, and after many weeks of perfect bahaviour, it was giving some messages like "gapps has closed", so I restarted the tablet. To my surprise, I saw the Moto lgo, the Tam EOS animation, and the "wheel" that appears before booting completely... and that´s it. Stuck.
I tried wiping dalvik-cache and cache and restart. Same result.
I tried restoring a nandroid backup. And here's the strange thing, because it can't restore data. The error message reads:
Error removing /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/webview.db-wal!Error formatting /data!
I tried wiping userdata, same error message
I tried with another recovery, in case it mattered (cwm and rogue). Same error
EDIT (Update):
I tried accessing the Xoom through ADB, and try to delete manually the pesky file. I was succesful. When I tried another "wipe data" from the recovery, I got a similar error:
Error removing /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/autofill.db (another file)
When I tried to delete it, I got the following error message (through adb) [why did it work the first time and not now???]
rm: can't remove 'autofill.db': Read-only file system
Any help, please? I'm at a loss here...
I post some photos of the errors

Yes, I did try that as well. It flashes without problem (rom + gapps), but does not restart (same original problem). I flashed it after a cache and dalvik-cache wipe.

ok backup your recovery to your desktop just so it is safe
try this
wipe cache - wipe dalvik cache - wipe/reset factory data - flash rom only then reboot - if it bootloops again enter recovery and go to advanced settings and run fix permissions and reboot

Thanks for your reply.
The problem, in case I wasn't clear, is that I can not make a WIPE DATA (that's when I get the error). It doesn't help wiping cache and dalvik beforehand. So I am in the same bootloop situation. tried fixing permissions, but I continue in the same situation.

I will try this, as a last resort. Now I am making a backup of my internal sd card, because this process will delete everything in it. In case somebody wonders how to do this (I didn't know it myself), I used adb. The exact command I used was:
adb pull /data/media .
It's taking ages to backup my internal sd files (at a rate of 7Gb/hour aprox).
Meanwhile, anybody knows what possibly is happening to my Xoom?
After wating several hours to back up my internal sd card, I have been able to wipe (format) /data from fastboot. In case somebody needs to do something similar:
Once in recovery, type in your computer:
adb reboot bootloader (wait for the xoom to reboot into fastboot)
fastboot erase userdata
I then rebooted into recovery, and restored a nandroid backup. This time, no problems.
Now I am in the (again) long process of copying the /data/media files back to my Xoom, but I was VERY relieved to see that it was booting normally after this...
glad you got it fixed dude

G2x got stuck in CWM, and cant mount.

Could you please help me on this?
I have LG G2X. Today, I successfully flashed it to EB 4.0.3 using CWM via NVFlash. After that, I couldn't use internal SD, then I changed a number in a file in etc folder( based on instruction online). I messed up after that. It said that my External SD card is corrupted. I tried to format it.
After that, it kept booting to Recovery mode with 5 line error : E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command ...
I cant wipe. I can flash the zip files but nothing's changed.
Please help me on this.
Thank you so much,
PSC.

I tried several ways of flashing through cwm and heimdall, all go through but end up with the same results :S
Can i get some help? I'm kinda lost here and don't know what to try next.

Hi,
After a weekend lost searching for a fix to my problem I've decided to take the Tab to repair at the dealer. my tab has an insurance and i will activate it.
for a small resume, i've scanned for partition errors, having received I/O error on mmcblk9 / 10 / 11.
i tried re-partition without success
at last i 've flashed my tab with pit file modified for devices who have bad sector issues and i nearly succeeded, because get an ICS boot but gave me a message that need to do a data wipe because of some encryption. when i made the wipe with the CWM recovery i get mount /data and /sdcard error...
so once that i have insurance i'll use it .
the bad news is that it can take up to ninety days, i'll prai that does not happen and take much less time.
tks

Failed CM11 install on Wingray (E: can't mount /cache) Help! :(

I was trying to install CM11 on my Stock unrooted xoom, so I went ahead and followed cyanogenmod.org's guide.
It was great until the flashing CM part. And then, I got this error: System is not bigpart . (something along those lines.)
I found a same guy who had posted a solution to this.
So I go ahead and follow this, and when I flash BigPart TWRP 2700, I get this error on the device: Installation aborted. I used the sideload method for this.
I looked up some forum threads on how to fix this, and there was a thread which told me to install another version of TWRP BigPart, the R.A.H version. I did that by sideload, it installed, and I rebooted into recovery (after wiping dalvik cache). Teamwin loaded up fine, and I headed into the wipe section. According to the solution at ditoforge.com (link above), I had to go to advanced wipe and wipe everything BUT the sdcard. I did that, and I got this error: E: Can't mount /cache. I went ahead and flashed CWM through fastboot again, repeated the process, and no luck. Then, I went into fastboot and flashed TWRP Bigpart 2.7 directly using adb. It worked, though I got a series of errors upon trying to wipe (unable to mount /system, /cache, /data, etc)
I panicked, fearing a brick, and flashed back CWM. Luckily, I had taken a backup of Stock 4.1 and I restored back to that, thankfully finding it working. *phew*
I also tried fastboot format cache but I got this error on cmd:
Code:
C:\Users\User\Desktop\adb>fastboot format cache
formatting 'cache' partition...
Formatting is not supported for filesystem with type ''.
FAILED ()
Strangely, fastboot erase cache seemed to work.
I wanted to call quits, but I love CM11 and I would really like to give this a shot. Any help and tips would be really appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
Bump. Tried to use CWM recovery again after flashing, but now ADB doesnt work in recov. :\
