[Q] 3g/4g dongle - Asus Transformer TF700

With the JB update does the Pad infinity now support 3g/4g dongles? The pad not having 3g/4g is the one thing holding me back from buying it but if someone could confirm usb dongles work I'm sold!

Do you have a 4g/3g phone?? usually people tethering the Pad through your phone to access the internet.

I bought a mifi 3G unit by Huawei. Works much better than a dongle that I could only use in the dock.
I now have 3G in my pocket that the tab sees when ever I am out.

[Q] Asus Transformer from US for UK Use

I've been pretty anti-tablet since they started releasing them (I have my Desire HD...why would I want a tablet?????) but after seeing the Asus Transformer I've started to change my mind......partly due to the keyboard/battery dock but mainly because I'm in the US for a while so purchasing one now would mean big savings!!
My question is what problems (if any) would I encounter if I tried using one bought from the US in the UK? What is the charger like (does it have a transformer like laptop chargers which allows variable input voltages)?
Also, if I purchased the dock from the UK would it still work or am I limited to one bought from the US?
So do I assume it should be fine?
The Transformer itself charges via a USB connector, so it should work fine in any country. You'll need a UK-mains to USB3.0 adapter to replace the one that comes with the US Transformer if you want to charge it directly while "undocked" from the PC, but USB is USB everywhere, so the part of the cable that connects to the Transformer should still work fine in the UK.
I have no idea if the docks are region specific, but I'd bet they aren't just because it doesn't make much sense for them to bother going out of their way to make them that way.
i think i would be more concerned about warranty, rumours has it that us transformer is only protected by local warranty, not international warranty

Hmmm good point!
Did a little searching and came across an xda page here asking the same question and it seems it does come with global warranty, but in Europe I think you have to find a local reseller for any claims rather than online.

Ive read elsewhere that the hardware itself is universal, but you may need to continue using the US updates instead of the UK updates (unless you root and install cwm, but that's a different story). But anyways, the keyboard would work from anywhere.
The plug it comes with accepts 240 volts, so you would just need the us/uk plug style adapter (couple bucks i think?). You wouldnt need a voltage adapter though.

It needs 15V to charge I believe. It uses a USB receptacle, but won't charge unless it gets 15V. I plugged in my transformer to my USB 3.0 port and it did not show a battery charging icon. The adapter outputs between 5v and 15v.
To answer the OP's question, the adapter accepts an input voltage of up to 240v, so all you need is a US plug -> UK plug adapter

[Q] USB Ethernet Adapter

I Just bought this tablet and i am wondering if anyone had some luck to get a usb to Ethernet adapter running. Quite a few worked for the prime and original transformer.
Its just i travel a lot and some many bloody hotels still have cables in the room....I am sure some people must have run in to the same issue as me here.
I have scourged through the tf101 and 201 forums earlier for this
Mine working with belkin gigabit USB 2.0 network adapter. simply plug and play . I get a notification Ethernet adapter connected ..touch it to go into settings ..switch Ethernet on...done..costs rupees 750 (US$ 17)...attached a pic of it
Known adapters working:
1. Belkin EN and Gigabit adapters
2. Apple mac air Adapter
3. D-link DUB adapter
4. Trendnet, Sabrent, monoprice, maplin electronics are other brands reported to work
others depending on your luck ....I tried an unbranded one in the shop...with Ethernet ..did not work...

I suggest listing the chipsets for compatibility, not the brands

Well I know but trust me it is difficult to search for the chipset on the box of the adapter ..it is not mentioned on it...so better and easy way to go buying an already proven brand because unlike in the US..in other countries you can't return back stuff you bought unless it is faulty. "They never claimed it works for Linux or Android or your tf300 "
Well but if it helps....ASIX AX88772A is the chipset which is said to be working ....well further you can contribute if you are aware...I am a doctor not a software guy. ...ha ha ha

It depends on the brand, but yes, the chipset is generally not mentioned on the box
Still, a compromise: list the chipset, and the brand/type that make use of it?
Still, every adapter compatible with ICS should work with the TF, as drivers are generally a kernel thing.
Thanx Once Again
This is very good news indeed. Now i just have to find any of these in Germany
dont really want to get the apple one.....
This one supposedly has the ASIX chipset and is supposed to work with Android:

Has anyone been able to use a 2.4/5ghz usb dongle on this tablet

I am looking at buying an Asus Transformer TF300T, and the only thing missing from making this tablet perfect is the lack of 5ghz support for this tablet. Has anyone been able to make a usb dongle work with this tablet. (Note the dongle has to be dual band otherwise it defeats the purpose). I am hoping that it will plug and work, but I am open to installing a driver. I am waiting on imput before I go out and buy the brand of Usb dongle that works.
Thank you for your time and effort

Just wondering, why 5ghz? In my experience, 5ghz is slower and less range.
I am in a dorm where everyone has there own networks.

but no one has a network on the 5ghz and I have a dual band router. I dont need the range. I just need some free spectrum. and the ability of all of my devices to use it, and I love this tablet because of price and features, and I can live with a dongle that I only need while in my dorm room

3G or 4G USB dongles that work with the Surface R

I am looking to buy a 3G or 4G USB dongle to use with the Surface RT...
Can anyone confirm if they have a 3G or 4G USB dongle working with their Surface RT?
Can you confirm Dongle modle number as well please?
I am interested in this as well. AT&T LTE specifically.

I bought this specifically for my Surface and it doesn't work. I'm hanging on to it just in case I decide to get a Surface Pro later on...

The ones that will work are those with NDIS 6.3
Anyone happen to have the Sierra Wireless AirCard 313U to test out on a Surface?
Google for Netzero4g 4G hotspot. I think that so far that type of device are going to be the only option.
My Clearspot works well.
I really need an AT&T solution. Anyone test anything? I am tethering via my iPhone 5 right now, but want to get away from that.
Why not look into the "mobile hotspot" type devices as opposed to a USB dongle. All of them will be compatible being that you only connect to it via WiFi. Much more convenient since you don't have to plug it in to anything.

I am tethering via wifihotspot off my Android phone - Verizon. Only thing is in Hotspot mode it kills my battery on my phone, and wifi speed is a bit slow.

[Q] Ethernet Connection

I just traveled to Japan last week and most hotels over there are still not big fans of wifi. So, they usually have ethernet wired rooms for internet. I tried to use my OTG to ethernet adapter to connect the ethernet connection to my Razr Maxx HD. Unfortunately, it did not work. But I noticed on the phone there are settings for the ethernet connection but they are available to make changes or selectable. The adapter that I used came from my cheap travel tablet that uses an OTG/mini usb to ethernet adapter to connect to the internet. The tablet and my laptop connected just just fine. No recognition or anything when plugging the adapter into the Razr. I would like to skip taking the tablet in the future if I can just use my phone. Or quite possibly use the ethernet connection to enable the phone's hot spot connection. I am wondering if anyone on this forum used an ethernet connection with there Razr HD and if so what is needed to get it to work? Thanks in advance.
