So i just got my tf700 and I am trying to catch up on what I can and can't do with it as far as OTA updates and custom roms. I have some major questions before I do too much and make an unreversible mistake.
Scenario 1:
Can i unlock the BL, make an NVflash restore point, and then flash any custom rom or perhaps the official CM10 when it is available?
Scenario 2:
Do I need to update to .30 or JB in order to unlock the BL and use any of the newer JB roms or an official CM10?
I have really been reading around, but I can't seem to get the tue answer to these questions. Thanks!

Before you start with anything, follow the nvflash guide. Next you can unlock on any version of the OTA, doesn't matter.
so if I follow the NVflash guide, I can then revert back to day-zero at any time? I was under the impression that after I took the OTA, that I would not be able to use NV flash?
Basically, I would assume that I should be able to stay on .26, unlock the BL, and then flash anything that I would want. I have never played with a device with an unlocked BL. Thanks!

If you have a backup of NVflash, you're god of your device. You could do practically anything and still get yourself back to factory. (flash custom rom with different bootloader like between .26 and JB, relock/unlock bootloader, recover from brick...just named a few).

How can you relock the bootloader if unlocking, which is a requirement for NVflash, permanently destroys the locked bootloader?
As far as I know you *cannot* relock the TF700 bootloader, even if you have NVFlash capabilities.

Guys,
a post with a flashable bootloader for both ICS and JB would be useful.
I've borked a JB rom and my CWM backups were not working because of the bootloader.
I had to flash ASUS stock back to get the bootloader.
Some zip files would be useful in case someone wants to go back to ICS
Much appreciated.
Abe
what if the JB bootloader sets some e-fuses and reverting to the ICS bootloader bricks the tablet?
without NVFLASH I wouldn't even attempt such a thing.

Asus wouldn't b that nice would they?
On Galaxy Nexus I do that all the time. They have an ICS bootloader and a JB one. I can check the version in Fastboot mode.
I am trying to flash some JB ROMS and if I fail all my CWM backups are useless since the bootloader is the incorrect one..
The tab gets stuck after restoring I assume because of the incorrect bootloader.
Thanks
Abe
I attached the ICS bootloader, I would strongly suggest you wait until NVFLASH
for the tf300t is released to mess with the bootloader because you have no way
back if it does not work (no fastboot).
I Will

Yea,
any news on NV flash?
I saw a tweet from Asus in some thread saying that they are not going to support it at ALL.
I hope is not true
Thanks for the zip.
Always good to have files just in case.

In the official cm10 thread it states that nvflash is not going to work with the jellybean bootloader. I think they where close to a release before jellybean dropped.
here is the post.

Move to dev if better suited there.
Thanks goes to saltxyz for this find.
For those of us on the TF300 JB bootloader you can revert back to ICS using my instructions in my other post here only be sure to grab the new .30 firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873635
Not only is ICS running smoothly again thanks to the bootloader but THE .30 BOOTLOADER ALLOWED THE JB KERNEL TO RUN!!
That's right I was able to flash my own TF300 ROM which has everything but the kernel removed from the blob and it ran JB while leaving the bootloader intact.
nice! good to hear asus has things figured out.
I'm guessing this is part of the prep for JB with the bootloader supporting both.

Yes, but you have to extract US_epad_user_9_4_5_30_20120907_UpdateLauncher.zip to US_epad-user-9.4.5.30.zip and flash it.

I've flashed it several times today. You will have to re-install TWRP via fastboot, and then flash SuperUser, if you care about root.

I know it's stated that you have already done this, but I really don't want to screw something up and I don't have NVFlash to recover from a hard brick. Can you, or others, confirm that you can indeed move from the .13 JB bootloader to the .30 ICS bootloader successfully and then be able to use the NVFlash?
Edit: Oops, I guess this is for the TF700 only, or will this work on the actual TF300 as well? Anyone know?

No, not yet. For now, you have to flash back to .30, root it then use OTA keeper to save a backup, then upgrade to JB, then restore root.

You could try to flash Superuser with this recovery and maybe it will work.If after you flashed the Superuser zip you still don't have root, downoad the SuperSU app from market.

How would one flash back to .30 if they're already on JB? I did the same thing...updated to JB without saving root. I do have an unlocked bootloader.

If you are unlocked just follow the method i've posted in my previous post,it should work without going back to 30.

Yes this method does work if you are unlocked, thanks for the idea......
Yes, I can also confirm this method works.
Woohoo! I have root again!
I was gettin worried, downgrading seems like such a hassle
OFFICIAL JB, TF700, WW SKU, C70 serial 64gb
I just wanted that 3.1.x kernel SO bad.
Now to finally start tweaking/debloating it. I can't believe this BLOATED STOCK firmware runs as "smoothly" as it does, compared to stock .22, stock .26 and stock .30 it is hands down worth the hassle.
I have JB that has portrait mode, IPS+ and I can still plug my NTFS formatted portable hard drive into it, that NEVER worked on any of the custom JB roms working around the 2.6.x kernel.
now to see how vnc-loopback-linux-over-android works!
all the excitement, all over again. I've only had this thing for a little over two weeks, but it's so much fun. I love being on the ground floor with new devices, so many risky experimental things to try.
I'm f'n stoked! Haven't gotten bored with it yet!
Keep up the good work everyone!

Yes, you can follow the soft brick recovery in the "All-In-One" thread to downgrade from JB to ICS .30 without unlocking your boot loader.
So, let me get this straight.
Revert to .30, then root, then use Superuser (I have Elite) to OTA save, then apply the JB update, then use Superuser to un OTA save?
Well, all stuff in title.

OK, if you plan to stay on stock the rest of your life then just do the OTA upgrade, however, if you going to mod your tab, then couple things you have to do first and they are very important as it will be your life saving some day.
1. Root and Unlock your device and install latest CWM (not twrp, this one will not work once you on JB)
2. Use NVflash tool to make a backup of your bootloader (very important, life saving). You can not do this step once you on .30 so you are one of a few very lucky person here.
3. Install Voodoo OTA root keeper to temporary save root and restore root after the upgrade.
3. Do the upgrade to .30 then JB
Following the below link for detail instruction for everything).

Thanks, you are saving my life. I will put here issues
Can I install recovery not using ASUS tool??
Should I do root first before ASUS tool unlocking??
No need to use Asus unlock tool if you just want root. If you want to flash cwm, custom rom/kernel, root while in JB, then you do need Asus tool to unlock your device first.

you do not need to be rooted to unlock.
you do need to be unlocked to install recovery.
I am currently on cromi-xenogenesis 5.0.3 with bootloader 10.6.1.27.1 and twrp 2.6.1.0. What I want to do is switch bootloaders to 10.6.1.14.4 so I can install the new nvflash for jb. Will this work with my current rom setupd? Will I be able to simply install the bootloader with my recovery? If not what steps would I have to go through in order to get onto this bootloader?

You should never flash a bootloader from a different device, this is a sure way to brick your device!
If you currently have a 10.6.1.27.1 bootloader, you apparently don't have a TF700 and are in the wrong forum. Or you are confusing bootloader version with ROM version.
edit: nevermind you are right, I do have a tf700 but i was looking at the rom version. So how do I know my bootloader then?

Hi, just saw this post, and was wondering the same thing.
My build is: JOP40.US_epad-10.6.1.14.10-20130801.
This is a bone stock TF700, still locked, and not rooted. All updates have been from ASUS.
I'm guessing that 10.6.1.14.10 is the bootloader, and I'm interested in using the new Flatline version of NVFlash.
Looking at the instruction page, they only mention 10.6.1.14.4, so I'm also wondering if either the Flatline is compatible with .10, or do I need to find a way to downgrade the bootloader to .4
Any advice?
Thanks!

It says the boot loader version when on the screen before you boot the recovery image. You have to flash a modified boot loader. If you have 10.6.1.14.10 then you'll be fine since you are installing a different bootloader
