I installed LBE privacy guard from the companies website. It's unsupported, but in the best apps post, said it worked. As soon as it installed and started, my screen went blank, and I couldn't do anything. I've rebooted and as soon as the "protected by LBE.." notification shows in the notification bar, the same thing happens again. It happens quickly enough that I can't restart and get into apps in time to stop it or uninstall it. What the heck do I do now?
n/m. I finally was quick enough to get into apps and uninstall it before it booted up.

I don't think LBE privacy guard is compatible with JB 4.1. This app is nasty since it required root and unlocked device. Even if you found a way to disable the app from starting up, but your tab will not function correctly (FCs). The only way I think that you can actually removed it out of the system is either, factory reset or reflash at the worst case.

I would say it probably isn't compatible with JB. I can't read Chinese, and assumed it was ok since it was in the list of recommended apps. Shame on me for not doing my homework before slapping crap on there. I did get in and uninstall it. The tab seems to be running ok so far, and there's no sign of it in the apps list now. Hopefully it's all gone.

Nice to hear that...You are a lucky guy! The last person I helped with the phone (not tablet) ended up factory reset to get it back to normal. We managed to disable and uninstalled the app, but the phone wasn't running right.
here's a link to the translated lbe for jb.
installed on my tf700 and works fine.

I'm not aware of this latest version and no where it claimed it comparable with tf700. It may work, it may not. In my opinion, this app has full access to the OS permission module, you are taking a big risk.

This version exists for a long time on the lbesec site and play store but was only in chinese.
Someone on xda has translated it to english.
Get a look to the topic.
I installed it on my tf700 few weeks ago and it works as expected.

Working and downloading flawlessly! Even has a record of all my past downloads. The sync is almost instant from the time I click install to my phone.
Installing apps to device through market works like a charm, but now the big question, is there any way to uninstall apps a similiar way?

Not at the present time from what it looks like. Google would have to make a script to be sent to your phone to start a removal process of the app you choose to delete. Doesn't seem hard to do, hopefully in the future. That would make it totally awesome! ( not that the Market is not already!) Well within Google's ability.
The app push doesn't seem to work on a Custom ROM. It only has the apps listed that I installed before updating from Stock, it has my last used date as last November, and although it says it is pushing apps to my phone, they never show up.

Something like that is already implemented. As far as I know, Google is able to force a delete of an app from all devices, if it for example contains dangerous code or illegal contend. So the feature is already there, they just need to configure it for personal use.
But I figure, that they have safety-concerns about something like that. (like accidentally deleting an app from a wrong device and loosing all app-data)
Cuz Roms
I'm using Cognition 2.6b (I know I know just tired of flashing right now and its been working perfectly all this time) on a Samsung Captivate.
The market is working perfect for me. Shows all my installs even when they were installed with a custom rom.
Dont forget that your titanium re-installs from different phones wont show up.
Hello all.
I am new here and posted in the General folder because it wouldn't let me post in the android folder. My phone started doing this 2 months ago. Originally it started when I downloaded an app and then I got a window pop up and said 'Package file is invalid'. Now I am on my 3rd Triumph (returned for other issues) and the problem is still around. It seems like the problem follows my gmail account around. I only get this error with some of the apps. I need to know how to remedy this issue. I have read the other thread about this problem here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674725
and it lost me after the fourth post.
Phone info:
My Triumph is fresh out of the box ( just got another one yesterday, 10/1).
Dont know what ROM I am using.
Not rooted ( and dont want to void any warranties)
If you need other info, just let me know.
Most of the things mentioned in that post regard a modified rom, which you probably don't have (in other words, "my phone is stock"). The biggest question is whether you have tried restarting your phone lately.
The second biggest question? Where are you installing your apps from? If from the market, here are my troubleshooting recommendations. If not, correct me here or feel free to PM me.
Market acts goofy on the Triumph, and for that I blame Android. Try going into Settings> Applications> Manage and go to Market (usually under Running apps). Clear cache and force close, then see if the problem continues. Second time around, clear cache and clear data and force close, and try again. If problems still persist, uninstall all your updates and then see what your phone does.
I rather like the old Market because it didn't have that overpriced junk in it. Either way that refresh might be necessary.

I have not restarted the phone lately mainly because I just got a new one yesterday.
I use only the market to download apps.
I did all the things you said in the order you said them and I am now running the old market but it still doesn't let me download certain apps. With the old market the pop-up window doesn't say 'package file is invalid' it now says 'Download was unsuccessful, please try...' and I cant see the whole error message.
I haven't been using the Market long enough to know the one. I am new to the android game.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674725
There is that way, but you will be breaking your warranty, since you need CWM and neeed to be rooted
Other Ways:
Go to settings, then applications, then go to market, uninstall updates(if you have)
or
Get titanium Backup(if you can), uninstall market, pull the Vending apk from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=320287&d=1272913729 inside /system/apps, put on SD Card, and install it.
If titanium backup wont(MAYBE NOT FULLY SURE) let you uninstall, then you need to be rooted.
Absolute Last Option that probably won't do much good is, factory reset.
Titanium Backup requires root anyway. Becoming rooted isn't hard, as long as you can download and run the app Gingerbreak 1.2. It isn't on the market, of course.
Although still, I find it strange you cannot just open certain apps. Are there any specific ones that do or don't work?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Yeah! If you use Gingerbreak V1.2, you can root, then unroot when you are done, they will never see it was rooted. ANYWAYS, they never check if your rooted when you return or exchange a smartphone, not even Virgin Mobile checks....

I got into crap with Best Buy because they checked, actually So yes, I would recommend getting rid of as many traces as possible... but yes, Gingerbreak is the meanest and cleanest method available on any of the three VM Android phones. At least, as of now.
They check WTH!?!?! What did they check for/what did you change?
I highly doubt that they dont check to see if someone did something to their phone that would void the warranty. Nevertheless I would like to not root the phone at least until I am sure I am keeping this one.

Have just pulled the update down my self, and the installation seemed to go well. The update has resulted in the following error: “Unfortunately, VirusScan Mobile has stopped.”, and with the options “Report” and “OK”. Regardless of pressing send or OK, the same pop-up appears half a second later. Power of and on have not help.
I don’t know what to do right now to get rid of the problem. The device is useless right now.
If you think about upgrading, I would think twice before jumping into the update. Might be better to wait until more success stories appears

Update: Acer Denmark was not able to help (unless I would return it). I succeded in getting into the settigns menu and killed the VirusScan Mobile, so I am able to use it for now (until I have to reboot it )

Ive had the same Problem.
With a taskkiller i have killed the app temp. and then i have erase the Data from Virusmobile in the Setup->Apps.
Until now no Popup.
But i don't konw if the Virusmobile is still running.
Calendar issue
The calendar keeps forgetting what calendar/calendars have be selected for viewing.

Also just installed it - Mobile Virusscan was a bit annoying to stop because the FC message pops up in the foreground like every second, leaving you unable to proceed, so you gotta be quick to get into app control...
I deactivated it and switched to Avast! which I already have on my SGS2 and am quite happy with.
That done I must say I'm a bit disappointed performancewise, I don't really have the feeling it got any faster or more fluid.
I had the A700 EMEA_DE but when check for update it say your device is up-to-date
How you got the update can anyone please upload the update zip file?
Awesome! I also got the update, but will this wipe all my current apps and stuff?
Edit:
I read after searching (hehe, sorry, replied too quick), that OTA updates never wipe the installed apps and data. It only updates system related stuff.
Edit2:
Phew, download is SLOW!
Edit3: Sorry, it's not slow, it's fast, but the tablet was almost out of range of the router.
I got the update too in Germany.
My download was quite fast though. No it doesn't change anything in your userdata.Apps and settings are the same.
For me it seems much smoother in the first 5 minutes i checked it out.
Big improvement as far as i could see.
Someone knows what about the A701?
Sent from my A701 using xda app-developers app
Nice surprise
Unluckily when I start a manual search for updates, I get the following error meaasge: "System update is not allowed on your device".
Haven't tried it before, because there was nothing to search for. I think it's due to rooting the device, right?
I used method 2 from this post.
Any ideas how to get the update working?
------------------------------
With temp unroot from OTA RootKeeper I can manage to search for an update, but there seems to be nothing available for my device until now.
(Installing might fail anyway due to the patched kernel.)
Yeah I said it is coming soon, I am made great acer muahah but unfortunately I do not have the update.

I have the DE version living in Germany but no update
The A500 ICS update. Also not push to all peoples at the same time.
So I thank DE JB version also like that.
Remember the "Power MANAHEMENT" update?
Also push to DE version first, than FR. and US will be the last.
And HK version need to wait one more month later.
Any feedback on the touch sensitivity after the update?
it will be really appreciated when a lucky german user will upload a cwn dump !
What this update does
The update installs the following stuff:
- JB, obviously. Which includes changing the time font, Recent Apps and colour of the soft button pressing (gray instead of blue).
- Google Chrome.
- Acer Cloud.
- Google Currents.
- Google Voice Search (Google Now).
The update installs the following widgets:
- Google Play Books (doesn't seem to work).
- Google Play Music.
- Play - My Library.
- Play Recommendations.
It Improves the touch experience greatly. Note that the option in the Settings is set back to "Normal", you can change it to "High" but it doesn't seem to be necessary.
No other languages are added.
Google Play Store doesn't seem to be updated. I still need to download the full app after an update.
All the apps start and shut down fast, only the launcher doesn't seem to work that smooth anymore. Maybe try another launcher like Apex?
Also, I can't seem to expand the notifications. Long pressing the notifications shows an option to open the app info.
Can't it play Dead Trigger with Ultra High setting smoothly?
The ics is fxxking lag when playing this game...
Good day all.
Last summer I accepted to install Google Now after some suggestion from Google. I quickly realized that this was extremely intrusive and overtook my pad time and again. At the time I blamed that on the fact that my pad was fairly new and was extremely buggy and unstable in every respect.
Now, after many updated and firmware fixes, my Transformer TF700 is much more stable. Lately Google Now has started popping up unasked overtaking the pad. It crashes whatever application I am using and just sits in the lower left corner as if waiting for me to use it. While my pad goes through these episodes, that can last from few minutes up to half an hour, my pad is completely useless.
I have uninstalled everything I can find that resembles Google Now but that does not seem to be enough. I simply can not do anything at all. Anything I try to do the Google Now crashes. I have been able to "force" my way into the app manager (meaning I just make continuous attempts to get into setting/Apps until successful) but there is no Google Now available under running apps.
I have installed all updates and am at version 4.1.1
Any ideas what I can do? This is just too annoying and just last night this behavior prevented me taking meeting minutes in a very important meeting.
Help! Please!

Google now should work fine on your tablet. You definitly have some issue with your OS, I suggest you should download the full firmware from Asus, do a factory reset then reflash the full firmware. This should fixed your Google now and anything else too.

I gather you are on the stock ROM? You cannot actually uninstall any system module on stock; you can only disable them (same result on the exterior, though).
You could give unlocking and installing a custom ROM a thought: they generally either do not include Google Now at all or only at your own discretion (with CROMI, for example, it is an optional install). Are you rooted? If so, you can try installing Titanium Backup and freeze system modules in the app list and hunt it down that way. It seems to be starting up now, missing some component or access. I do not have it installed at all anymore (I found it useless out of the box, and although people recommended it as becoming better with time as it 'learned' what to present me with, I didn't find any improvement on finding the info myself by hand, and it is too US-centered for us Europeans, anyway -- I have no use for yesterday's American Football results.

I suppose I will attempt this and try to choke Google Now after reflashing.
I found the firmware on ASUS web but now I do not know how to proceed. I will look for info about reflashing.
What is mu best option regarding backing the tablet up? I have rather a lot of stuff locally on the tablet that I wish not to loose.
Thanks.

You are correct, I am on the stock ROM and I have not rooted yet. The tablet was so unstable in the first few weeks after I got it so I did not dare void the warranty yet. After it has stabilized I might root it if there is a reason to.
Google Now is WAY to intrusive and, like you said, to US-centric to be of much use to me.
Is there a usable backup solution that does not require me to be rooted?
Thanks,

Download the full firmware from Asus, unzip the file then copy the unzipped file to the root of your micro sdcard, you should see a notification for update, tab on it and let it rip! BTW, without root, not much you can do even try to backup your device.(it's not going to be a complete backup but a half ass one).

Hi. ASUS has an Unlock Device App on its support page. If I get that and, backup, and reflash will I not be back to untooted? If that is so,will I not have trouble restoring my stuff?
As you realize I have not given this much time. I just want to use my devices and not have to be plagued by stuff like this. To me, my phone is a utility first, toy second. I do not have the time to play with it as much as I would like and therefore this kind of operation is all a bit blurry.
I am an IT manager and have been for over 20 years so I am technically aware but have not given my current Android platform enough time yet.
Many thanks,

Well, if you want your device to run really well, then you need to unlock your device and flash custom rom/kernel. Many ppl kicked themselves in the bud for not doing this sooner. Sure if you unlocked, warranty is voided, but it well worth the hassle. OK back to your topic, in order to root, without unlocking, you need to downgrade back to ICS version .30, root your device, install OTA root keeper, then do incremental upgrade back to JB. The only advantage with root is so you can install rooted backup app to backup all your apps (system apps, user's apps and all the settings), rooted will not improve your device performance at all, but if you unlocked and flash custom rom, you will see a huge improvement on performance.
This is gonna be long, so please bear with me.
New Android user here, since December and never looked back.
But I have a big problem that just started two days ago, and coincided with the installation of Vonage for Android.
My N7100 is rooted and I also installed a new kernel (Perseus), but kept the stock ROM for the time being, but I'm getting closer to installing CyanogenMod ROM through ROManager Premium.
I just read the article posted here by Will Verduzco on Android security which led me to a bunch of articles on VOIP and it's scary.
My problem is that my N7100 will kind of do a half-baked reset without my doing anything... and then after watching the download light blinking on my router here in the house, Airport is downloading for about five minutes and then, BANG!!!, up comes the screen asking me for my language, and to set up a Google acct, Samsung acct, and I have to re-enter the passwords for my WiFi, etc, etc... you know the drill.
What's causing this?
I've been on XDA hundreds of times doing research on one thing or another, and I've removed all the Google bloatware possible except for the few things that I want to keep, and I got that comprehensive list from the XDA site... but after my device gets done doing it's thing, everything is back with dozens of notifications... AND Titanium Backup, ROM Manager, Triangle Away, SuperSu, Root Explorer, ES File Explorer/Task manager, etc are all missing and no backups on the SD card. WHAT!!!
One more thing which might be peripheral to my problem.
A couple of days ago I installed the new OS for my Mac... 10.9.
With my prior OS, I uninstalled almost all of anything that said "Google" from my computer but have to go through it again and repeat.
This morning, I do a search for anything Google on my drive, and came up with files with executable update files that all had "Android/GT-N7100 in the path.
Yes, I did connect to Kies by USB just once to check things out there but I don't think that's the underlying problem. Maybe it is.
I've seen some REAL genius help on this site, and hope that somebody that has a grasp on my problem can help.
I joined this site a few minutes ago just to ask this question, by the way.
If I went off track as to the posting guidelines on the site, just tell me.
Hey, I'm pushing 70 and the mind wanders. Haha!
Thanks in advance, guys!

Haha!
Thanks in advance, guys!

as for your note 2 problem, so your saying you flashed Cyangenmod on it correct? if so did you flash a the current gapps for whatever version you flashed? im thinking that's the problem, otherwise another flash of the cyangenmod ROM might fix it.

No, I haven't flashed CM yet, but as I said, I'm moving in that direction after looking a a bunch of ROMs.
This is gonna sound kind of dumb, but the reason that I'm holding on to the stock rooted ROM is just because of one active screen saver, and that's Windy Weather. Like when it's raining here, you get rain drops sliding down the inside of the glass. HA!
And believe it or not, I agonize over the small stuff... like whether or not I want to go with an AOSP or AOKP ROM.
Believe it or not, when I got done with massaging the stock ROM today, all of the junk that I had formerly removed through Titanium Backup were still gone even though it showed that it was all re-downloaded in the Notifications.
I just have a sneaking hunch that the Vonage VOIP App that I installed had "something" to do with my problem, so I have not reinstalled it, and I also destroyed all of the Play Store links with Titanium Backup and still no problem.
I'm still running the stock 4.1.2 stock ROM.
Even if I do go with CM, I'm a little worried that if I download Gapps, something in there just might want to gain control and zap my device again.
Anywhooo... for the last several hours, I'm not having any problems.
Thanks for your reply.
