Thanks for the memories - No more LG for me.... - LG Optimus 3D

Well, after countless hours wasted flashing roms (as great as they all were) to have features we should have had in stock firmware. A broken power button (because the build quality is rubbish) choppy video recording at full HD (defcomg, your work was and is amazing) and now a failure of the wifi module - I'm done with LG.
I bought this phone so I could take 3D video footage to show on my lovely 60" Panasonic 3D plasma. A phone was perfect to capture those everyday moments you might miss if you had to rely on a dedicated camera.
HTC Evo 3D was rubbish, the Sharp 3D camera phones were too low in quality and LG screwed up on so many levels - its incredible to think that they are still even in the Android mobile phone market. At least they have persistence.
I wish they had shown that kind of persistence in updating our phone. Before the latest problem, I lived in hope that ICS might solve some of the problems but I'm going to go to the new Galaxy Note 2. Amazing battery life, beautiful screen, smooth jellybean OS, great video playback and recording, multi windowed support, no ram/memory issues and the Wacom style stylus will add great functionality for me (work related).
Thanks to all those that made the O3D easier to endure. Thiaiz, Samno, Meemo, Defcomg and countless others, thank you for all you offered, free of charge and out of your own Valuable time. I salute you for your efforts!
However, I'm at the end of my tether regarding LG's lack of support and rubbish craftsmanship.
Never again......

Optimus 3D Quadrant Score & Linpack

Ran a few quadrant test on the optimus 3D and this was the best one, the average was around 2350-ish.
I'll be uploading the linpack scores in a bit.
Linpack is around a steady 35-36
great, could you please tell us more about it?
does it reaslly support tmobile 3g?
how is the 3d display?
plese update us
Well ill try my girlfriends tmobile sim in the phone. I personally have sprint so im not sure update ya in a few hours.
Okay, so I wasn't able to test t-mobile functionality but I'm sure it won't be a problem after devs get ahold of the phone (i currently don't have a sim card in it, nor a gsm card currently available). and as far as the phone itself it's quite enjoyable. The software I have on here is the same they had at CTIA (hell it still has pics from CTIA on there lol) which isn't that stable. But the custom interface is nice and definitely caters to the 3D for the phone with the 3D+ menu. The 3D+ menu you can get to either by pressing the 3D button (where i personally think the camera button should be) or by a shortcut or by a widget which has all the options available. those options they have in the menu are 3D apps and games, 3D camera, 3D youtube, 3D guide (very helpful, ill get into that) and of course the gallery. Now for the 3D itself, as long as you hold it at the right angles and distances it looks pretty damn awesome. I myself hate 3D glasses and don't enjoy 3D movies just for the eye strain, but this seems to be a lot easier on the eyes. It came with a bunch of demo 3D videos, which are awesome and show of the potential quite well. The depth on it is great, I've seen as much as 4 fields of depth (like 4 different objects at different distances). 3D youtube also works very very well. The only thing I don't like about the 3D media is that you get slight scanlines (interlaced) look on it which doesn't really hold you true HD values. But still looks quite great. Now the peeve that I have with the current software (which i'm sure will be worked out in the final release) is taking pictures and videos for yourself. you have to become quite acquainted with the placement of the camera and how it will affect your pictures and videos. As soon as you take a picture the settings are off enough to where it will hurt you eyes, but there is an option to change the 3D formatting (which camera is placed where, i.e. left picture as main or right picture) and the 3D depth adjustment (your best friend) which allows you to manually adjust the lining up of the pictures. In this version of software I've noticed crappy battery life, but I'm sure the new kernels will make a world of difference, the web browsing and 3D gaming (in 3D too, like NOVA in 3D, which is awesome) is very fluid and powerful thanks to the dual-core OMAP4 processor.
So in essential everything works as promised, just wait for the final that they release and you should be blown away. All of my friends reactions, and retail people at staples (cell phone area) were amazed by the quality. The phone is also quite light and the screen is bright as hell.
anymore specific questions? let me know =)
thank you for the description!
can you post a 720p and a 1080p video?
720P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-goLd9HoQZA
1080P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmQiPWnLVIc
Keep in mind this isn't the final software version. Also, sorry about all the traffic noise, lol
How is it possibile.. damn!
From MWC of Barcellona, during the official presentation, it lost ~500 points in Quadrant bench????
At MWC LG show us a 2900 points in quadrant...
Ok by the way...
1) Can you post the original file of videos?
Because I'd like to know how is the original Video bitrate.
2) have you any lag during the game?
3) Can you bench with Neocore? I'd like to know the FPS
4) Can you tell us, how many FPS it does during the quadrant? I'm curious because during the "test of the planets" and the "DNA" it show a really slow FPS...
5) The photos can be taked in 16:9?
6) The Fix of GPS at cold? how many seconds takes?
7) How many seconds for the Boot?
Sorry for a lot of question... but I really wants buy this phone! and i want to know more and more about the 3D.
A REALLY BIG BIG THANK YOU!
Hmm... I hadn't know the previous quadrant score lol.
But I'd be glad to get you those things =D
I also forgot to mention I don't have a micro sd in this phone right now... so the quadrant may not be 100% accurate.
1) I'll do that once I get into work.
2) I've seen no lag, just small framerate drop during cinematics but still extremely fluid. (I've been playing NOVA in 3D a lot.)
3) I ran 3 on Neocore, 57.9 for first run, 58.7 on second run, 57.9 again for the third.
4) Planets it stayed at around 13-14 FPS for the planets and 24-27 FPS for the DNA.
5) As far as the current software that I have, there is not an option to change the ratio.
6) I couldn't trust the true functionality of the GPS since I have to use wifi. But it seemed to get signal quite quickly.
7) 20 seconds to get to splash screen, 30 seconds to load into launcher, 38 seconds to fully load the loader and lock screen.
What do you want to know about the 3D? truthfully from all the reviews I've seen about the two 3D phones (Optimus 3D and EVO 3D) all they say is "it really works!" lol. And it does. But what do you specifically want to know about the 3D?
Thanx for the info and the video posts.
I would also like to see the video clips posted in their original quality, for example a 3D 720p at the best quality setting.
Maybe using http://www.megaupload.com or similar place to upload a clip.
alrighty... well heres the two videos I uploaded to youtube in original format...

The lighting seems to be more stable w/ the 3D? hmm... but that could just be where the sun is right now, It could have been interfering when I was turning. But anywho, enjoy.
Please could you post the phones current firmware and phone version and date, please
hi, can you sell me the phone ? As the release date is june??

Thank you so much!
It seems the LG Optimus 3D have a lot of street to do for going better!
The bench of the Planets and the bench of DNA have really low!
Optimus 3D have the same GPU of Samsung Galaxy, but in the bench the GS is faster then LG OPT 3D.
I hope they do a good work with the driver, because this is the best that they can do... I think I'll buy a LG OPT DUAL.
I've a couple of other question
1) Battery life?
2) The effect 3D is "stable"? because I've read that if you move a little bit, the 3D effect "go away"
3) Volume speakers?
4) How fast is in the net? Flash player is working good?
5) Can it read MKV files at 1080p with the standard player?
6) Can you record a video @1080 with REALLY FAST MOVEMENT of the hand? becuase it seems the LG Optimus Dual have a Bug in the camera... (see this video, and you'll see to much compression! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq0O8mQDTns)
Now i go to see the original video files!
thank you so much!

1. Battery life sucks right now... they need to update the kernel and software. Final release will probably much better, and when they release 2.3 for it. It will be much better.
2. The 3D is semi-stable... But yeah it is really easy to lose the 3D angle, but if your stationary it's easy enough to keep the effect.
3. Speaker volume is eh... the quality isn't impressive either. It's not as good as the evo, and the EVO is quite mediocre.
4. The browser is pretty awesome, especially with flash 10.2... it works quite smoothly.
5. It looks amazing, but slightly unstable as far as playback, it works for about 10 seconds then starts lagging.
6. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26057377/MOV015.mp4

cant decide

guys im 50/50 on EVO 3D or Optimus 3D
i do need your pros and cons to which device to buy
O3D is much better with 3D capabilities, both capturing and viewing. Probably it is better on the performance side too. LG's hardware is rock solid and with the new 2.3.5 software I think it has no cons against Evo3D.
Tried both, using the 4Ever now, effect is better!

My first phone was lg optimus one, I bought that just for its price. When I compared My phone with my friend's one (Htc wildfire), I saw that mine was 10 times better.
And I decided to go on with lg.
Now I have Lg optimus 3D....
Fast,smooth,no bugs, cool 3d .....
LG annonced for ics update, waiting eagerly ;-)

performance, 3d capabilities, price is so much better with Optimus.
New 2.3.5 Android rocks, solid, stable and very fast, I think choice is easy.

For certain go for the LG,htc is crap in comaparition with this phone
I'm pretty sure posting this in the O3D/E3D forums would result in completely biased replies...
Regardless, imo the pros of each device are:
E3D
Better 2d Screen (Higher res). I don't really notice that much of a difference in normal use.
Better UI (Sense 3.0 is 3D, has better widgets, apps etc)
16:9 - Widescreen videos wont have small black lines at the top and bottom
1GB Ram - Can Cache more apps, however stock sense 3.0 uses 500MB of it.
Better photos? (Photos/videos turn out the similar, however the Sense 3.0 has a pretty good camera app with touch to focus and more options such as sharpness, exposure, etc). 3D Photos seem to have more depth
Touch to Focus video - The O3d just seems to keep focusing in the middle of the screen. Its somewhat useful.
More ROMS - Especially in the CDMA Version. The GSM has around the same but most seem to be more useful than O3D Roms (OC,UV,ETC)
Camera also opens instantly. The O3D camera takes around 3 secs to start up for some reason (Pressing the home button in the camera app and going back seems to be instant, so its probably a software problem. )
Slightly better battery life
O3D
3D App, video and Photo converters
The 3D Depth adjuster seems to fix most badly taken 3D pics
Faster - Lower res and better GPU. Does much better in 3d benchmarks, but currently existing games all run extremely well on both phones. (Some 3d games such as asphalt 6 are somewhat laggy on E3D, and smooth on the O3D. Pretty much all 3d converted games on the O3D Lag slightly [Even the preloaded angry birds and other 2d games.]
Better 3D Viewing angle (Slightly. 3D Quality is more or less similar, even tho E3D is higher res)
More internal Storage - Both have ~1gb, but the O3d has an extra 5.5gb internal SD (Although it can be annoying at times, since some games dont download to external SD)
1080p Video/3mp 3d photos
Although the E3d has more Pros, most of them are fairly small, whilst the O3D's better 3D Performance and 3D App Convertors are pretty useful (Although somewhat laggy)
The O3D Also is cheaper atm($400 USD, E3D is $500 GSM. CDMA is cheaper though.), and comes with almost every 3D Gameloft game.
----The E3D also seems to only be able to track 4 fingers (I doubt you will ever need anywhere close to that) whereas the O3d seems to be able to track over 10 (Infinite?) fingers - but it is slightly glitchy (Sometimes one touch point just jumps to another finger).
--------The E3D also seems to have bluish whites while the O3D has yellowish whites.

Better pictures? in 3d mode E3D captures 2MP whereas O3d captures 3mp resollution pics... Sense 3 is 3D? in theier dreams maybe. It is a normal UI unless by 3d u mean effects like most launchers have (cube rotation etc) cause both phones show 3d in landscape only. At least O3D has 3d space as a show off....
And lastly E3d has a bigger res screen BUT colors are more vivid in O3d and screen is a lot brighter

2 Megapixel 3d pics is more than enough. I doubt anyone even bothers to zoom on them anyways. Regardless, MP =/= Quality, the E3D's photos have more depth, possibly because cameras are further apart.
Sense 3 IS 3d (Not stereoscopic 3d though). Pretty much all widgets are 3d, just look for a vid on youtube (No other launchers have true 3d widgets). It also has a carousel effect which all other launchers lack, and one of the best lockscreens (Agile lock/Sense like miui lockscreens lack options such as weather and music widgets) Rooting the E3D also gives a tilt 3d homescreen option.
Brightness/Color wise, both are similar. O3D might have slightly more contrast, but its not that noticeable in normal use.
I also don't really see any situation besides showing off where the 3d space would be somewhat useful...
guys appreciate all you replies. ill be getting O3d next week. thank you so much..
the next thing i wanna know is the terms of this phone and the android community. im a custom to iphone and symbian phone, jailbreaking and custom frimware.
what i want to know on the android are:
what is a baseband and its uses, version, region?
what is the best firmware?
what is CWM,CM8,CM9?
what is the best Micro sd card for the phone?
have any one of you guys bought this dock + charger ?

is there an app to make 3D button for camera?
what are your apps?

There isn't really a best one. Some may be faster, while others have better battery life. You should just flash them all and see which one you like, there aren't a lot of O3D Roms
what is CWM,CM8,CM9?

CWM is clockwork mod - the thing used to flash the roms (Or firmware)
I'm not too sure what CM8 is (Cyanogenmod 8 doesnt exist)
CM9 would probably be CyanogenMod 9, the Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.x) version of cyanogenmod
what is the best Micro sd card for the phone?

A higher class card would usually mean the card is faster, but microSD speed doesn't make much of a difference most of the time

The Optimus 3d Gingerbread update turns the 3D button to a camera shutter.
I would also recommend getting a custom launcher - such as Go, Launcher pro, or Launcher 360. The LGHome launcher is somewhat laggy when sliding full pages and also uses quite a lot of battery compared to others
thank you for answering all my inquiries and the advice im so excited to get the phone. by the way what is the latest baseband

O3D 3D effect vs EVO 3D's?

Between the EVO 3D and the Optimus 3D/LG Thrill, which has the better 3D quality?
I'm not talking about 3D camera quality, I'm talking purely about how the 3D looks on the screen. I've probably seen an equal amount of answers going for one or the other, so I figured I'd go and ask specifically. Yes, I realize asking here I'll probably get a biased answer, but I'm hoping that somebody here has used an EVO 3D for more than a few seconds and can comment.
Reason I ask is because I'm basically deciding between getting a $600+ Galaxy Note and a ~$200 EVO 3D (one with a bad ESN) or a $300-$400 Optimus 3D and some 7" tablet down the line. If the difference isn't that huge, then I'd probably rather go for the first option partially since Otterbox makes cases for the EVO 3D.
okay. so if you are playing games in 3d or watching movies in 3d then both devices are gonna look equally great. the difference is if you are viewing images or videos you have taken with either device. in this case the lg optimus 3d will look much better... why? because the cameras have a greater distance apart between them then the evo 3d. the closer it is to the distance our eyes are actually apart the better the effect and the easier on the eyes.

So what you're saying is that the 3D effect is basically the same - as in, watching the same 3D movie on each phone, there wouldn't be much of a difference? Again, I'm not talking about 3D camera quality (I'll be getting a Fuji W3 for that, which I know far outclasses either device), I'm mainly concerned about the actual 3D screen quality/effect.
Viewing 3D video & photo on on both are most the same (using other media files). But if u r taking video or photo from both devices and viewing together, O3D will be much better as Camera hardware were installed differently.

Alright, thanks for the info.
So another related question - other than the better 3D camera, better 3D apps (like the specific 3D Youtube app), and better specs, is there anything else the O3D has over the Evo 3D? And speaking of specs, is there anything other than high-end gaming that the O3D's better CPU/RAM will do noticeably better than the Evo 3D? Don't try and sell me that it'll be smoother, because my 800Mhz single-core G2 is pretty smooth.
I'm asking because may be considering another phone instead of the Note (the Nokia N9), and figure I should know before I jump on the Evo 3D based mostly on price.
The O3D has a 2D-3D video/image/game converter. Evo3D does not to my knowledge. It is quite nice being able to take a video file that is not 3D and converting it on the fly. Instead of loading actual 3D video files, just use any ol' vid file. Even downloaded web vids. There is also the ability to take a game like Dead Space and play it in 3D. Or Angry Birds and many others. I am not knocking Evo in any way. LG has been engineering their 3D equipment longer than other manufacturers. They have just been in the game longer than htc (who has only one 3D device) and they don't use it on just mobile applications. IMHO LG wins based on its extra features which will come in handy later even if you don't plan on it until later. Hope I helped. ;-)

Hope I helped. ;-)

Eh, I've seen enough 3D movies to decide that unless it's made in 3D (unlike some 2D movies nowadays that tack on 3D for a cash-in) then I'd rather not bother, and same goes for gaming (had nVidia 3D Vision for a few months and played enough games to see that it's basically hit-or-miss as to whether the 3D effect is worth the inevitable headache I'll get after using 3D for more than 2-3 hours consecutively).
I guess it'll mostly come down to price when I end up buying either a month or so from now - if the O3D isn't much more than $100 more (if even that) then I'll go and buy it, and get the Evo 3D otherwise.

I have 3D Vision on my PC and I know about the hit-or-miss thing with some games in 3D. However this doesn't occur with the O3D, every game (if it runs at all in 3D) will look very good with the 3D feature, you will just have to worry about lower framerates on some graphically intensive games. It also has settings to change the 3D effect to your liking. The 3D technology used in the O3D is completely different from Nvidia 3D Vision, as it doesn't use active shutter glasses that can cause headaches from extended use.
If you aren't so concerned about performance, then why consider the Galaxy Note? The O3D is pretty close to the Samsung Galaxy S II in terms of performance according to most benchmarks.
As for Evo 3D vs Optimus 3D, I have not used the Evo 3D but I know the Optimus has better 3D software (Game Converter, Youtube 3D App, Video/Photo Playback/Editing), combined with more powerful hardware.
If you want a case similar to the Otterbox for the O3D, there's the Ballistic SG. I use it and can attest to it's quality.
Another note, I have seen some (used) Optimus 3D go for less than $300 on eBay...the Thrill 4G is even cheaper (if you don't need the T-Mobile USA band)

Hmm, that definitely makes me rethink it then, if it really is that good - although I can't say I'm that interested in mobile gaming (compared to watching videos in 3D, at least). I'm mostly interested in performance because one thing my G2 can't do well is play high-res videos.
And I'm interested in the Note for a few reasons, such as the stylus, high screen resolution and quality, and the actual size of it (I'd use a 7" tablet as a phone if I could).
The main reason I wouldn't want to use the O3D as my phone is because the main uses out of it - 3D videos and gaming on the side - would tax the battery a bit; that's why I'm also considering the Nokia N9 as my next phone (for the nice unibody construction, long battery life, smooth/sleek/simple OS, etc.), since then I wouldn't have two similarly sized Android devices with the primary differences being that one makes phone calls and the other does 3D.
Do they make any decent extended batteries for the O3D, particularly ones compatible with any cases? A nice one might make me just go for the O3D alone...
And I'm looking at the O3D over the Thrill particularly for the better official updates and dev community, and the fact that I simply can't buy a device without original packaging/accessories (kinda OCD about that) brings up the price to $350+ for me.

Managed to find it (it's 3200mAh apparently), but I can't find the case - unless you mean the battery door it comes with. I'm wondering if there's a case that fits with that extended battery door.
In any case, I'm really tempted to get one with that battery now - thanks for the info.
EDIT: Two more question, actually:
-Does the stock Gingerbread update include notification power toggles (as in, pulling down the notification bar and being able to toggle Wifi, 3G, etc.) or is that something in custom ROMs?
-Are there any major problems with the stock ROM? I don't want to deal with the instability of custom ROMs or losing 3D or Bluetooth or something

The phone has notification power toggles ever since first froyo version and yes they are here in gb as well. No major bugs in gb stock. Some people report wifi and network problems (ghostcalls etc) but given that they have been reportin it since froyo versions I guess it something else going on.I have never had any problems at all neither on froyo nor on gb. Phone is really smooth and works as it is supposed to. Battery drains within normal rates for dualcore phone with a 4.2inch screen and in anyway much more resilient than sgsII (which i used to have for 3 weeks or so...)

[Q] HTC Incredible S or LG Optimus 2x?

Hi there, i want to buy a new phone and im having a hard time picking between the HTC Incredible S and the LG Optimus 2x.
My first android phone was the HTC Desire :
I loved it! was a very nice phone and i am a fan of HTC , loved Sense UI, loved the screen and everything. Really enjoyed flashing custom roms on it thanks to this site! i spent most of my time changing roms every 2-3 weeks lol (very friendly in that matter)
then i sticked to the MIUI rom towards the end
After a while i got fed up of this phone.
My second android phone was a Samsung galaxy S I9000:
This phone was notably faster and smoother than the HTC Desire! the screen was VERY nice, bigger, clearer sharper, more vibrant and despite it's size, it was still light and pocket friendly
the HD video was smoother than the Desire's one (no lag).
Customized it quite a bit but the phone didn't seem to like the custom roms as much as the HTC Desire did (MIUI would have problems like when i call someone, the other person can't hear me; when i put other roms they would work for a week and then start slowing down...) and didn't have much of a problem with it, battery life up to 3 days!!! until it fell from the 3rd floor and the LCD screen broke lol fml
I'm taking this opportunity to change phones and am thinking of these two
Galaxy S II is too expensive here and i can't afford any other phones atm.
I like the Incredible S because it's a much better version of the Desire which i fell in love with, it has a newer sense version and a lot more to offer (8mp camera etc etc). But im afraid i might get fed up of the sense again like i did for the desire... i can always change roms but i heard it's harder to do with this phone.
The LG optimus 2x also looks appealing because of it's dual core processor and 1080p video shooting ( which i heard lags quite a bit ).
The software is definitely a turn off and seems laggy... but i am hoping to fix that once i put a custom rom.
What are your insights about this? It would definitely help me a lot!
Oh and Battery life is also another important factor. I managed to pull almost 3 days most of the time with my I9000 with some tweaking. (no 3g network in Bangladesh).

Camera / Image signal processor quality (unexpected)

Hi everyone!
Edit: The camera and camcorder response / accessing time is also 5 and 4 times higher than another Android device.
This tablet comes Full HD display, utilizing nvidia's 40nm processor technology (SoC).
The current IC fabrication technology is 22nm, 28nm and 32nm which is considerably more efficient than 40nm in terms of processing power.
I noticed on the first day of receiving this tablet I was overwhelmed by its full HD display, for this tablet being a high-end product.
When I look at the image captured by the camera I was somewhat not surprised by the image quality of the camera.
It has been one of the main features which was talked about in the launch / promotional video of the TF Infinity.
Where it talked about a 5th lens that adds on a superior quality but I don't see that quality. There are couple of problems with the camera.
1. The well known focus clicking problem in video mode (auto focus is unavailable in video mode).
2. The image captured in a room with fluorescent lighting has a refresh rate problem (with horizontal bars across the image).
3. The zoom feature worked fine but somehow the preview which shown on the screen isn't, the live preview is low resolution and produce undesirable sharp blocks (which is just as annoying as using a low ended product).
The camera software is primitive and is lacking lots of the standard features of a camera.
But I'd expect much more quality from them and nevertheless to say it is pretty unexpected to see the full HD display while still leaving lots of blanks for the critics to fill up (wondering why the reviewers never mentioned the negative points on the tablet) and usability problems which its users faces.
A lot of people probably don't care about the camera but hey this tablet isn't cheap to start with and it's made by a reputable brand name in the technology industry (& they don't make Cameras...).
If you watch the live preview closely, you can actually see the horizontal bars moving down the screen (just like the refresh rate of the good old analog TV).
Is there any experts with cameras who can tell me how do you capture an image without the presence of the horizontal bars?
Is this tablet with high-end specification and without quality?
But if you are just an average user; Do you still get really annoying about all of the problems on the tablet?
*# One other thing which is rather inconsistent, I noticed is the file modified date in the recently released FW updates "*_epad-user-9.4.5.22.zip", all of the files within it are dated with 22/3/2011 11:21AM. And the zipped file within "*_epad-user_9_4_5_22_UpdateLauncher.zip" are dated 15/6/2012 and this update was only uploaded a few days ago!
I remember my phone originally had a lot of issues with camera...it ended up being software. I tried Camera Zoom FX, and the pictures started to come out quite a lot better. LGCamera works great as well, and also has a video mode. Try those, that might increase your picture quality and also gives you a lot more control over pictures.
As good as the camera was built up by Asus, its still a tablet camera. Tablet cameras have a reputation for being kinda crap.
But I agree with KilerG's post. Try other camera software and see if that helps. Or perhaps try turning down the resolution.

I wasn't expecting to become a professional photographer with this tablet, much less shoot my next great film on it (even though if I did, that would be hilarious). I probably won't spend a lot of time using the camera, and when I do, I think that's it's adequate for what it is...a tablet camera.
Remember how Apple talks up their camera? It still doesn't take the most amazing photos, especially on the iPad (well they talk up everything that is basically worthless, so maybe that's a bad example). I can get a better picture from a Samsung or HTC phone 9 times out of 10 than on a fruit device.

So; I guess you didn't buy a tablet because of its camera, but you see the point of having a camera on the tablet is to make life easy and fun.
It should be expected of from a tablet, various components of the tablet works but its not perfect, why? Maybe the manufacturer can answer the question.

This is maybe philosophical.
Being the best does not infer perfection.
Ahhh, but I too would prefer perfection. Those cameras cost 10's of thousands and almost require a degree to operate. For 500 bucks and a ton of more relevant things it does I am happy with the best of crap.
So to speak.
Lets just hope for the best of apps to get us home.
+1 for Camera ZoomFX. One of the first apps i install on my devices.

The quality remains the same as the horizontal bars are still present in the still image.
I took this picture today and it seemed to come out perfectly fine. There were no lights on and it was starting to get dark. My phone's camera would have taken an incredibly grainy picture, but this seemed to work just fine.
That's. My grandpa and great uncle if you were wondering. I'm visiting my grandparents and great uncle currently
