[Q] HTC Incredible S or LG Optimus 2x? - General Questions and Answers

Hi there, i want to buy a new phone and im having a hard time picking between the HTC Incredible S and the LG Optimus 2x.
My first android phone was the HTC Desire :
I loved it! was a very nice phone and i am a fan of HTC , loved Sense UI, loved the screen and everything. Really enjoyed flashing custom roms on it thanks to this site! i spent most of my time changing roms every 2-3 weeks lol (very friendly in that matter)
then i sticked to the MIUI rom towards the end
After a while i got fed up of this phone.
My second android phone was a Samsung galaxy S I9000:
This phone was notably faster and smoother than the HTC Desire! the screen was VERY nice, bigger, clearer sharper, more vibrant and despite it's size, it was still light and pocket friendly
the HD video was smoother than the Desire's one (no lag).
Customized it quite a bit but the phone didn't seem to like the custom roms as much as the HTC Desire did (MIUI would have problems like when i call someone, the other person can't hear me; when i put other roms they would work for a week and then start slowing down...) and didn't have much of a problem with it, battery life up to 3 days!!! until it fell from the 3rd floor and the LCD screen broke lol fml
I'm taking this opportunity to change phones and am thinking of these two
Galaxy S II is too expensive here and i can't afford any other phones atm.
I like the Incredible S because it's a much better version of the Desire which i fell in love with, it has a newer sense version and a lot more to offer (8mp camera etc etc). But im afraid i might get fed up of the sense again like i did for the desire... i can always change roms but i heard it's harder to do with this phone.
The LG optimus 2x also looks appealing because of it's dual core processor and 1080p video shooting ( which i heard lags quite a bit ).
The software is definitely a turn off and seems laggy... but i am hoping to fix that once i put a custom rom.
What are your insights about this? It would definitely help me a lot!
Oh and Battery life is also another important factor. I managed to pull almost 3 days most of the time with my I9000 with some tweaking. (no 3g network in Bangladesh).

[Q]Torn between Phones

Hi all,
Since the Evo 3D was announced I was determined to get it but just near the launch i hear they removed 1080P video recording :S which is sh!t if you ask me. Now you know I love technical features and im pretty sure the whole 3D pictures and videos thing is a bit of a gimmick. Ive seen 3d Movies in the cinema and all it does is give you a very slight feeling of depth in a 2d picture. Nothing like how they advertise in IMax where it looks like someones coming out the screen lol. So if thats the capabilities of IMax what will it be for this tiny HTC phone?
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S and I love it. The camera is good the features, the power and especially the Super Amoled screen. Its gorgeous.
Im sure many have pointed out before that the touchWiz interface is absolutely boring. There is no sense of design or thought in it. Im sure people just sat around and decided "well lets make some icons and then stick it in an iPhone-like menu". On the other hand HTC give a higher resolution AND the amazing HTC Sense 3.0 interface. It is absolutely lovely. I had an HTC before (TyTN) and when i changed the crappy windows UI for the Sense UI it was well worth all the hassle of learning to flash roms and so forth.
So now I present you a summary:
Samsung Galaxy S 2 Pros - 8MP camera, Full HD Recording, Super Amoled Plus, better benchmark results than the Evo 3d
Samsung Galaxy S 2 Cons - No 3D (?), Annoying TouchWiz interface, Same old design (of the phone)
Evo 3D Pros - 3D Cameras (?), Dual LED, Nice HTC Sense Interface, HTC Speaker is always LOUD, downright sexay lookin
Evo 3D cons - no 1080P Recording!!, Alot less powerful than the galaxy s 2, no amoled
So what do you guys think i should do? any opinions?
I'd go with the sgs2 just for the raw power then put a sense rom on it....many of them are great. But at the same time, if you are looking at an evo 3d that means you are on sprint like me, and we dont have sgs2 yet. It depends on if you want to wait or not. Personally, because of the power an sleekness i believe that the sgs2 is more future proof. Or you could go the same route as me and just wait for the Nexus 3....if it ever gets announced
See the thing is im in the middle east im not on sprint and the evo 3d has not been released here yet
tell me more about the sense roms is there one for the galaxy s i9000? And is there already one for the gs2? If there is something like that for the gs2 then i will take that although i do think the evo 3d has better design the gs2 could have used more buttons at the front so what about these roms?
tmobile g2x vs the sensation
anyone has any experience with these phones
and which do you prefer and why
sorry is starting a new thread and forgot to go back to general
Evo's camera is really messed, get the sgs2, it'a much better phone under every other aspect as well imho. 3d feature is bull and will bore you after a day i bet...
how bad exactly are we talking? and i had a look for the htc sense rom on galaxy s but its still in development... i have to say i really really like the htc sense UI and the last htc i had has a pretty nice camera and that was only 2MP
Edit:
I was browsing around the reviews and i saw a few clips of Evo 3D recording... Was disappointed that such quality can come from an expensive high end 2011 phone. i mean i think the original galaxy S has better quality from its 5MP camera.
So instead of constantly baiting myself with reviews about Evo 3D and comparisons (which mostly turn out in GS2's favour anyway) I thought id look at a GS2 review.
I gotta say its amazing, its absolutely blazingly fast. I change my opinion there is no more competition the GS2 is way better Why? because:
Evo 3D has worse quality than what i originally thought
The Evo 3D scores ~1900 on benchmarks (quadrant)
My Galaxy S scores 1600 on benchmark after darkys rom so why should i shell out so much cash for 300 benchmark points??
Some people said Evo 3D is still new and I should wait for some optimizations. Taking this into consideration it occured to me that even if the Evo 3D manages to hit 2800 (and i guarantee there is only so much optimizing you can do that it will not cross 2800) it still wont be as powerful as a SGS 2.
Think of it in terms of cars, I have a V6 and i can race quite a few V6s on the roads. Now if i were to modify my car i can easily beat a V8. But what if the V8 gets modified too? So as such wait till darkys crew gets their hands on the SGS 2. I mean they added about 700 benchmark points on my i9000! It just shows the durability of the SGS series to allow a huge optimization and customization. For example the headphones volume was not loud lo and behold there came the Voodoo kernel app to give a boost. Now you tell me, if a phone allows you to fix every single niggle that u hate about it is that not a perfect phone?
Im not saying the Evo 3D is bad but the galaxy S 2 really kicks its ass in terms of speed.
Now about the UI:
Sure HTC sense is nice but I never actually saw the TW 4.0 UI up close. After watching a number of reviews my conclusion is, its not bad at all! Seriously, check it out. Its got 3D rendering, its got folders in its menu. It no longer looks like a cheap iPhone clone! It is really really slick. Its got a video editor a native chat application and FULL 1080p recording with flash. I was never too concerend about camera quality because im not much of a photographer but man oh man can you see the difference. As for the screens? the AmoLed doesnt even give the Super LCD of the Evo a chance!
Ive decided, SGS 2 it is!

Motorola ATRIX 4G or Lg Thrill 4G?

Kindly help me to choose from ATRIX or Thrill
i have ARIX but i got an exchange deal with Thrill + Rs.1500($30) INR
From all specs i understand Thrill is overall better phone but
atrix has 1GB ram where 512 in thrill(but still its fast)
thrill has very poor life where atrix has 2000 mah battery.
atrix has better developer support.
thrill has 4.3" 3D screen
What i am concerned is:
1. if thrill play 1080p mkv download from net without convert
2. Games compatibility with thrill
3. video Gtalk
what you people wants to suggest?
I was faced the exact same decision a couple of months ago and went with the Atrix.
So far pretty happy with my decision.
The Atrix has Gingerbread went the Thrill is currently on FroYo (wtf?). Plus the Atrix has some pretty cool ROMs (CM7 with all hardware working excluding webtop, Darkside Blur Based ROM which has HDMI Mirroring along with the option for Webtop over HDMI, couple of other cool ones but not that many which are still being supported. Not sure about the Thrill's community as I do not have a Thrill). Though the Thrill might be the first to get an ICS ROM due to the OMAP processor (Atrix can't get it until the Tegra ICS drivers are released) but I am not 100% sure about that (hoping Moto releases them soon after the Xoom is updated but not sure if they would be the same as tablets).
Thrill probably has the better display due to the Atrix's PenTile but it really isn't as bad as people make it out to be (it only looks bad to me alongside a phone of similar PPI which isn't PenTile). But I am not really a display expert.
And Motorola quality in general is far superior to LG (at least based on previous experiences with LG as well as friends with LG devices).
Call quality on the Atrix is outstanding (it is still a phone and Moto has a very rich history in the area of making phones), GPS is a CHAMP (locks in quickly and is accurate), signal strength seems to be strong throughout my area (though that is probably more carrier related than hardware). The fingerprint sensor is a cool thing to have and works great (I wish more phones had this).
Not sure which one has a better camera, the Atrix's is not great imo but not terrible either (then again, I never expect much from phone cameras. The quality on the front camera is terrible so if you videoconference, it might not be the best option. Thrill has a 1.3MP front camera and should be a superior option for that).
3D seems like a gimmick to me so I can't comment on that. It did look cool but I don't see any real uses.
I've had both a the Atrix and Thrill, I would stick with the Atrix. The Thrill to me was bigger and thicker it ran ok on Froyo but it got quite hot a lot of the time, also the 3D is a gimmick I played with it in the beginning when I had the phone but towards the end of my time with it I didn't even bother to play anything in 3D. Over all the OS does lag its really noticeable when installing apps even though I was on the leaked GB from the O3D and the battery life is very poor I couldn't even make it through a day with moderate use without charging and that was a big deal breaker for me. Development for the phone was OK at the time I had it no where near where its brother the 2x has, but I've upgraded to the Skyrocket now and I am quite happy with that, hopes that helps you

[Q] Pros for Sensation in face of SGS2?

Hi, I have dilemma, the time has come to buy new smartphone
I know this question was considered many times but let me describe my point of view.
My adventure with smartphones started with Nokia N82 and now I have HTC Desire Z. I was really happy having Desire Z and HTC made a real impression on me. Now I am considering to buy HTC Sensation or Galaxy S2. I really liked dev support for HTC and Cyanogenmod ROM and also other ones. I didn't use stock ROM. I am reading about many positives for SGS2 like display, camera, RAM and cons like Touchwiz, display resolution.
I would prefer to choose HTC maybe beacuse I know their product, I didn't have any samsung before.
My preferences:
For me the most important is performence, customization possibilities and dev support. I don't care about outside but only what is inside. I like sometimes to grab a picture or record a movie. For sure I am using the phone for multimedia: playing, web browsing and waching films. It would be nice if some newer games could be played smoothly. And I was really impressed by HTC custom ROMs (especially CM7).
Could you give me any view for situation repsecting my preferences? I wouldn't like to miss HTC and would like to have sure I will be satisifed if choose SGS2 (it said better performance/hardware).
I hope you understand my uncertainties.
Honestly, I think you'd be happy with either.
Both should be able to play new games smoothly e.g. Modern Combat 3.
Both seem to have a good range of dev support over here there's MIUI, Sense and CM ROM's so quite a few choices. Not sure about the GS2 but I'd expect there to be even more.
Overall, comes down to whether you want a Super AMOLED + Display or a Higher resolution screen, solid build quality or a slimmer phone and Sense.
Understand, but I have a little mess after all reviews I have seen and would like to know actually which differences are exaggerated and which are really negligible :/
For SGS2 in comparision to HTC Sensation I get known:
- SGS2 salmoled display better than LCD but worse resolution
- SGS2 1 GB RAM, for HTC left 200MB RAM free on stock ROM
- SGS2 pretty nice photos, better than for HTC
- SGS2 better movie recording
- SGS2 better movies playing
- SGS2 faster GPS sattelites localization
- SGS2 10 multitouch counted, HTC only 4
- SGS2 worse built than HTC (personally prefer HTC onecast built)
- HTC "death grip" issue
- personal - no experience with samsung products
- personal - fall in love with HTC - THE MAIN REASON OF PROBLEM TO MAKE CHOICE
- will CM ROM look and function similar on both phones?
So I am asking you to make some objective assessment of both phones.

Saying SAMOLED is better is subjective. I don't find it's greenish hue all that tempting. Also S-LCD is actually legible in sunlight.
As for ram? Who cares, both phones have zero memory issues, so that in itself is a non-issue.
The Sensation is a decent phone, but it does have a known heat problem (Use it with the screen on for 15 minutes and it's noticeably warm, sometimes hot). Also, the speaker isn't too great. Performance and customizability is very high though. MIUI, that one WP7-esque rom, AOSP GB and 4.0, Senseless roms, and of course Sense 3.0/3.5/3.6. We have a lot to choose from.
Ok, but SGS2 isn't so much customizable and do you think the same ROMs probably except Sense couldn't be find?
I never said the Sensation is a better option - they're both wonderful phones, but two of your points were kind of off is all. Screen type is 100% subjective and RAM doesn't matter as long as the OS has enough. I don't care if the SGS2 has 1GB of ram if either phone can get away with 600-700MB.
Htc sense, camera, screen resolution. Build qualitu

The Sensastion does have memory issues. The only reason I rooted and flashed was because Sense kept force closing even when I opened the smallest of apps. Granted, the update to ICS and possible Sense 4.0 may help things but if you don't want to root/flash, I would definitely go with the Galaxy S2.
I love my Sensation right now but the Galaxy S2 has a really, really great screen and it has great performance as well because of the killer CPU/GPU. But if you can, I would really really encourage you to wait for the new HTC One X or S or whatever.
No point in choosing either option IMO after MWC. Wait it out, get used phone, or maybe play with another OS in the interim. Come back for quad core, better camera, bigger battery, and HD screen. Also some of the quad core phones may be Playstation certified by end of year.
Superamoled plus is definitely better than super lcd except resolution. But there is not a big difference between samoled and super LCD. This is the only difference. But think about the future of your phone. Because samsung is the worst company i have ever seen. They won't publish ics for galaxy s ,plus and others. But htc community is bigger so sensation has a future. But galaxy s2 s future will be end by galaxy s3 s release.
I choose htc because I have used samsung before. And they really really pissed me off...

[Q] XPERIA Ars S vs HTC Sensation vs HTC Evo 3D?

I presently have Galaxy tab P1000 and i'm looking for a proper phone now.
Usage:
Heavy texting,
2-3 phone calls a day,
Occasional camera usage,
Moderate music playback and
Absolutely NO gaming.
Requirements:
Faster UI operations, (tab is a bit slow even without any 3rd party apps in background)
Good camera with LED flash (Camera on tab is crap),
Good loudspeaker,
Pictures in gallery must load faster (gallery in tab takes ages to load)
Powerful enough to load poweramp player faster,
Last but not least. Should look beautiful.
I'm confused with the above three.
Reasons:
1st preference to beautiful Xperia arc s. It has a single core processor and 512mb RAM. I heard that android 4.0 is very slow in it and the HW isn't future proof.
2nd preference to the HTC Sensation (not XE or XL). Deathgrip issues, touch screen issues, battery issues.
3rd preferance to the EVO 3D. Costlier than the two, not much good looking, lower camera resolution than the two
please help me chose one according to my usage.
My choice is HTC Senstion-Dual core 1,2ghz-768MB Ram.I think is better for You(no Game...).Don't care about battery and Screen issues it can be fixed in last update over OTA(in GB 2.3.4) and so many Cook Rom to test(if You want to test Cook Rom).

[Q]one last desicion to make, and i want yours first ; Xe vs Xperia S

hi,
i know some of you wont bother looking at this "another comparison" thread and most of you will think "this is Sensation forum, what do you expect us to say" but i have opened the same thread to the sensation Q&A section too..
so my last phones were; HTC sensation XE and One X..
and my criterias are, in the using time order;
1) most of the time i ll be listening music,
2) checking my e-mail.
3) using GPS (i travel a lot and alos live on of the most cunfusing citys in the world)
4) web browsing
5) camera using for the places i travel
6) games when i sm not traveling with my car ..
7) messing with the phone, trying to OC (sometimes to get better everyday experience but to be honest most of the time just to feel the power for ego satisfaction and its not like buying the most powerful phone, its more like watching and making the phone grow stronger in your hands)
the 7 is very little time, ones the occupation occurs i am not playing with my phone anymore, i want it to remain as a good assistant and a journey-mate for me.
according to my needings i crossed out SG Note from the list due to its eMMC bug and screen burn problems.. a phone which is famous with its screen should not suffer from screen problems. and also crossed out nexus for not having FM radio and limited storage option (only 16 in my country), and i also crossed the SGS3 and the HTC One X for one being so ugly and having screen burns, and the other for having lots of problems to get over.. i have waited enough android to get mature and i wasnt willing to wait for a phone to do the same and catch up with its software on the quality side, not in 2012..
so let me get to the quick advantages and disadvantages comparison, this is where i want your help about what i list under and add your opinions..
This is %100 my opinions and please change them and advise me if you think any (or all) of them are wrong
Sensaiton XE over Xperia s
- expendable storage option
- good headphones comes with it
- since its the cuisin of the sensation, it has very big development out there and with the way we can S-off and S-on there is no risk of losing the warranty
- since adreno is not designed for fill rate like mali-400 but its good for effects and balancing the load it gives superp performance on the games with a qHD screen
- and the GPU is also OCable when i feel like the performance is not enough (it was alwasy enough, to be honest but still... you know)
- about the development, i am not talking about having lots of kernels and roms out. i have only used CM9 and ARHD so far. what i am talking about is having s-off and not losing the warranty, and having camera mods to have 1080p videos at 30 FPS/40Mbps and photos like 5 MB, and having bravia engine with ARHD etc..
Xperia S over XE
- XEs screen is almost unusable under sunlight and gets dust collected under, but sony has a perfect screen there is no doubt to that.. (but i am afraid of yellow spots, some people says its coused by heat and the S3 Soc is heating on average usage
- GLONASS GPS support. i never used it so dont know about the real life performance but it must be a good thing to have 2 different satelite type instead of one?
- 12 mp camera is better on the stock comparison but i dont know if it can race with the modded sensation camera
- the UI seems smoother overall and litgher then the sense but still i wonder; how is adrenoa 220 doing with that 720p screen? and will there be OC chance in the future?
- 1 Gb of RAM is sure going to be better than the 768MB one especially when it comes to the multitasking
so to sum up, my main concerns are about the camera and the GPU and the screen when it came to the Xperia S even though it is the newer one.. i feel like "ok sensations screen is not good but it will always be that bad in the future too but what happens if my sony's screen loses its quality everyday just because of regular heating of the device? i have given up from all amoled screens because of that thought.
and the camera, since the memory is constant i can understand sony wanting to reduce the image and size but i want less compressed video and photos, especially at night
and the GPU.. will i feel like i need stop one day admit that my device is not enough for playing the newest games just beause it can not handle the georgeus screen in a year? this really scares me. with the development support of sensation it gets 52-53 FPS on the nenamark 2 without OC with the last drivers but the sony is stock in only 37 (i know it will do every game unless it gets under galaxy nexus since it is the referance device for now but still...)
thanks to everyone who is bothered to read this.. and thank you for help..
so, you already have a Sensation XE and wanting to get an Xperia S? or looking into getting one or the other? Will you be purchasing the phone with an upgrade or straight up?
the external speaker isnt all that great on the Sensation, so if youre listening to music I hope its through some headphones or Bluetooth! E-mail, GPS, and web browsing are great also. I pretty much use my phone for everything, just as you are looking for. The camera, with the mod, is just amazing. Sometimes a bigger MP camera doesnt mean its better Ive never had a problem with running low on RAM so I think the 768MB is sufficient. The only thing I dont do really is game on my phone. I mean c'mon...with a PC and Xbox why game on cell phones?! lol But I can see if youre always on the go and hardly stationary that mobile games will come in handy. From what I have experienced, games run butter smooth once you OC the phone a bit. Oh and btw, youll love the dev community for the Sensation!
I havent messed around with any Xperias so this is experience only from the Sensation
thank you for quick answer. i had sensation xe and sold it. now i am looking for buying a noew phone and it will either be a sensation xe again or xperia s.
about the games; i play my games on PC and think gaming on PCs or consoles is professional hobbie but playing a game on a cell phone is just a good way to spend time but here in Istanbul i need to find many ways to spend my time because of the traffic and i travel between cities a lot.
sony is fooling me with its screen and the RAM.. on HTC the blacks are grey-ish a lot (not like a LCD-AMOLED comparison but still sony's blacks are better even though it does not have the auto brightness settings) and there is this dust under screen problem .. and i saw many times that my sensation XE had to reload the sense UI after i quit a game.
Haven't tried the Xperia S, but being a Sensation user I can say that it's camera is really good. I could get good pics in low lights too

a) Screen of the sensation has similar performance on direct light than the Xperia. I have no problem at all. Dust under screen was a problem on the first units, but my unit has no problem at all.
b) Glonass support is not really a plus. As per the info available both GPS systems are similar, the standard GPS has better accuracy.
c) agree, Sony has always very good cameras.
d) If you don't like Sense there is no sense to buy an HTC device.
e) agree
On favor of the Xperia, it has a HD720p screen.
On contrary of the Xperia, I never liked the Sony Android UI. it feels cheap.
At the end is just a question of price and taste.
