[TUTORIAL] How to flash back to a Stock ROM! (@mod: Sticky idea?) - Galaxy S Plus I9001 Android Development

Hi all,
This is an basic how to for reflashing a Stock-ROM.
I made this so the newbies can reflash their phone to stock after trying out any other awesome ROM.. And to prevent these questions in the threads!
REQUIREMENTS
Original Samsung Cable
Odin V4.43 (Click me!)
AriesVE.OPS (click me!)
Samsung Drivers installed ( Download and install Samsung KIES!)
Patience
'
STEP BY STEP GUIDE
You have downloaded Odin and AriesVE.ops (Yes?)
Great, lets get started!!!
First: Open the taskmanager on your computer (ctrl+alt+del). Go to "Processes" and search for:
Note: Samsung KIES has been updated to version 2.5
Code:
KIES.EXE
KIESPDLR.EXE
KIESTRAYAGENT.EXE
KIESAIRMESSAGE.EXE
Close all of these... :good:
Next: Download your ROM ( for stock ROM go to Samfirmware.com and make an account and search for GT-I9001) Download the correct ROM ( it is an .zip file so unzip it, if it's password protected the password could be samfirmware.com )
You can also download from here: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9001#
For an easy way check this list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002171 (©Outerh3aven) here you can find every stock rom atm availeble.
Then: Open Odin, if your computer is running on Windows 7 or Vista select Odin and press the right mouse button in and select "Run as Administator"
Then: In odin select "One Package". In the line OPS you have to put AriesVE.ops, so click browse and search for the file.
Then on the bottom of Odin you'll see "One package" Select the StockROM you just downloaded.
Then: Turn off your phone and turn it on in Download mode ( Volume Down + Home + Power) and connect your phone to the computer.
You'll notice a yellow square with COMM(3)! and in the log you'll see Detected!! and Added!!
Simply pres START and grab a beer .
Your phone will reboot in recovery to finisch the job. After this it will reboot again and your phone is back to Stock. This proces takes time so be patience!!
Pro's:
- Stock so you have your warranty back :victory:
- Stable (only the launcher is not stable.. )
Con's:
- Full with bloatware
- No root and not able to use apps which require root
- No theming
- No OTA
- No ICS or JB
Some things that can happen during flashing:
- Odin gets stuck at Setup connection!!
> Just remove phone (you'll see FAIL!! dont worry!) remove battery for 10 sec and try again..
- Hang at boot
> Remove battery, turn your phone on in recovery and wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset
-Odin is not responding
> Dont do anything!!! Wait and see what happens!
Some advice:
When the flashing process gets stuck at System.img.ext4 download. Try it again for at least 2 times.
If that doesnt work for you. Flash BroodROM RC5.
You'll wonder why :silly:
Well, for some reason it fixes the partitions and after the installation of BroodROM RC5 your phone will reboot succesfully.
Hit thanks if you think it's usefull!!

How to root and unroot your stockrom and many more
If you flashed your phone back to stock, you wont have root anymore. If you want root on your stockROM follow this little guide:
How To root:

- Scrol with Volume buttons to "Apply Update from SDcard"
- Press the "Home button" and scroll to Root-I9001-signed.zip
- Press the "home button" again scroll to "Yes" and press the "home button" again
- Reboot you phone and it will be rooted and it will have SuperUser
How to Unroot:
-Download this file (Click me!)
- Put this file on the internal SD card!!! (very important beacuse StockROM cant acces External SD via recovery!!)
- Scrol with Volume buttons to "Apply Update from SDcard"
- Press the "Home button" and scroll to Unroot-I9001-signed.zip
- Press the "home button" again scroll to "Yes" and press the "home button" again
- Reboot your phone and it will be as normal as it was before rooting and the applicaiton SuperUser will be gone

Nice TuT and Compatible to Beginners!

Hi, thanks for posting. I'm glad you did it. But one thing is the title is a bit confusing. I think you can try renaming it to How to flash back to Stock ROM.

One more question by the way. What is the SS_DL.dll file for It's put along with the md5 in the zip file.

It's useless. Just delete it

No I didn't do that. Is it necessary? Because last time i tried flashing to others without doing that.

Yes. I would fail sometimes if you didn't run as admin. Also disable kies, anti virus and firewall.

this sucks

Can't anyone explain roms and kernels. How do you do it and why can't anybody tell me now? All I want is a new kernal and from there on put dlevrom 5.0 on my infuse! Why is it so impossible? show me how instead of sending me some stupid link
For one...are you rooted? If so..you don't need a kernel to flash dlev rom ...if you don't have recovery just put phone in download mode flash Odin community kernel to get recovery go to recovery and flash dlev rom ...not rocket science if u read...

^THIS.
If you read instead of complaining and giving up, it's simple. Everyone here has been in your shoes at some point, but they searched, read, and figured it out. There's nothing hard to do here. Just read and follow simple instructions.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
1) You must be rooted.
2) If you have a /Voodoo folder on your internal SD card, delete it and reboot.
3) If you're already running a custom ROM with Voodoo lagfix FULLY enabled, you can skip to step 7.
4) Download*CWM-community-kernel-v8.zip
*if you're on Froyo and place it on your internal SD card.
5) Install SGS Kernel Flasher from the Market.
6) Open SGS Kernel Flasher, select choose kernel, select the file you downloaded, and select flash kernel. Your phone will reboot and begin to enable Voodoo lagfix. Let it do that and boot all the way up. It will take a while (5-10 minutes) because it's converting all partitions to ext4.
7) Download the rom of your choice and place it on your internal SD card.
8) Power off your phone.
9) With the phone powered off, hold both volume keys and the power button for about 10 seconds and then release. This should boot you into*RED*CWM.
10) Select "install zip from sdcard" and select the ROM zip.
11) Once that finishes, select "wipe data/factory reset".
12) Select "reboot system now".
13) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
I don't know if English is your second language but i do not understand why you don't want to read.
You are going to brick your phone if you don't read.
Up above are the directions I followed to get modified recovery. From there you need to go to cwm (red) and you can flash whatever roms you want.
I stole these directions from GTGs infused rom. So thanks gtg.
I'm not a fan of CWM either. Prefer to flash roms with Odin.
Just in case you give up, heres how to get into download mode (being that this is your thread and you don't need a lecture):
1. Power off
2. Pull out battery
3. Plug in USB cable
4. Press and HOLD both volume buttons together and replace battery
5. Keep holding both volume buttons together till yellow download screen appears (newer roms may have an "Are you sure?" screen. Press volume up and you're good to go.
I'm glad y'all explained this...thanks...I can't count how many times I've explained it in the last 3 days..please with all due respect...read...I learned how to port and now building my own rom from READING...ALOT...and studying...and some advice along the way...but they were thru pms ...I did not make a whole thread on it...thanks yall

How To Root Stock Droid Charge FP5

Typed this up for a friend I thought it would be nice to share with any new droid charge owners looking for a guide to how to root FP5.
Major Credit goes to:
trparky
I learned how to do this from his website:
Tom's Android Knowledge Base -- Offline
Root Stock Droid Charge FP5:
First download this tool:
MD5-Checker
It will be used to run an md5 check on the files before they are flashed to your phone.
Next download this:
http://www.toms-world.org/android/download/ftp/ODIN3+v.1.82.exe
MD5: 3D8E8240F2A4F66E63A6622F65C7C909
This is Odin the *Windows* program used to interact with your phone.
Next download this:
0817_charge_recovery.tar.md5
MD5: 925D33E1AD40518AAC09B179DFDB0F76
This is CWM your main interface that will be used when loading roms, etc
Finally download this:
http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
MD5: 6462AC14CD38ED7C539CE3E29A6B92A8
This is the file that you flash to root your phone.
Run MD5 Tool to make sure all the MD5's match the previous MD5 checksum!
1. Open the MD5 program
2. Select create an MD5 checksum
3. Browse to the file that needs to be checked
4. Verify that the MD5 created matches the ones above (if they don't re-download)
5. Repeat for all files
Now you have all the files downloaded to root your phone. The steps to root stock droid charge are as follows:
Copy files to SD card
1. On the home screen select settings
2. Select USB setting and turn on USB debugging
3. Plug in your phone to your computer (give it a min to install drivers)
4. Pull down your top bar and select "Connect storage to PC" button
5. Create a new folder called Downloads
6. Drag the Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip file into the Downloads folder that you just created
7. Hit the "Disconnect from storage PC" button on your phone
CWM
8. Turn off your phone
9. Once the phone is completely off take out the battery
10. Open Odin then while holding the volume button down plug your phone into the computer
11. When you get the Yellow triangle with android in it your in download mode, plug battery back in.
12. On the left under option uncheck Auto Reboot (you and leave F. Reset Time checked)
13. Once Odin picks up your phone (a yellow com box will show up) click on PDA and browse to the CWM file and select it
14. Click start (it should be a quick flash)
15. Once the flash says successful take out battery and unplug phone
Superuser
16. Put your battery back in the phone
17. Hold down volume up and home (button on bottom of phone that has an up arrow) and the power button
18. Once you see the Samsung logo release the power button but continue to hold down the volume up and home button down
19. Once your phone has booted into CWM(there will be a banana at the bottom of the screen) arrow down with the volume button and select mounts and storage with the power button
20. Arrow down to the option that says mount system and use the power button to select it
21. Arrow down and select go back
22. Arrow down and select install zip from sdcard
23. Select choose zip from sdcard
24. Arrow down and select Downloads
25. Select the file that says Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
26. Arrow down and select Yes - Install Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
27. Select Go Back
28. Select Go Back
29. Select reboot system now
Let the phone boot up go the market and install root check it should say you’re rooted. Then your all done your phone has root that wasn't so hard was it
If you still are unsure or run into any problems feel free to send me a pm I would be happy to help you through the process via skype.
The link to the recovery file you mentioned in this post points to http://www.imnuts.org/downloads/charge/1209_charge_recovery.tar.md5.
Please update your link.
I no longer have permission to distribute the CWM file that imnuts made. The file has also been removed from the file system path that the web server has access to, meaning that it's outside of the public_html folder.
I do realize that some people still want the older 4.0.1.4 version of CWM but you will have to ask Imnuts for that file. Like I said, I do not have permission to distribute that file anymore.

Sure thing just updated post thank you for making me aware
I cant get the md5 for match for this file. I've downloaded over and over and it still doesnt match. what do i need to do?

The others matched with no problem.
Help!
The correct MD5 signature for that file is 9C41377FDCDB341310BC8C25D0794D6D.
A one-step ODIN using dwitherell's deodexed odin rooted stock file as described here is so much simpler, IMO.
how to get the Root? There is a method in one click.

Didnt think there was a one click for our device? Didnt see it listed.
No, there isn't a "one-click-root" for the Droid Charge.

I'm pretty sure there is no one click root for our DC. Im not a fan of one click root learning how to root manually will get you comfortable with flashing with Odin and CWM which you will need to flash roms, kernels, etc.

Props to you ztkryan!!
Spent hours trying to find something simple to explain this process. There are tons of people trying to explain this but nobody can seem to do it in a step by step list.
Simple, clear and concise ;D
I did all the following steps as stated, and when I run Root Checker, it states "Sorry, you do not have proper root access."
Am I the only one receiving this error? Does anyone know what I am doing wrong perhaps?

[ALL STOCK ROM] [DEODEXED for newbies]

PLEASE DONT MIRROR
This is totally for newbies who want to easily deodexed their stock firmware
At first i made this for a specific stock rom (dxli1) but then after try severel stock rom with the same deodexed apps and firmware it works like a charm!
As i test it without errors, u guys can use it to deodexed your stock rom
for stock DXLI1, follow this step or skip it if prefer your own stock..
first...download this Odin pack firmware to pc and extract it...
>>STOCK DXLI1<<
Download Odin (this is the latest) extract it
>>ODIN<<
run Odin, on your phone make sure to tick USB debugging in settings> applications> development then turn off phone and enter download mode (press vol down + home + power) then connect usb to pc, u will notice [com port] with yellow color on Odin.
now choose the following:
PDA = pda
PHONE = modem
CSC = csc
dont tick others, then START to flash the firmware...wait till the box turn green and you're done
your phone now running DXLI1 (check in settings> about phone)
Click to collapse
After fresh install your stock rom via Odin, take this 3 files and place it on root of sdcard (not in any folders)
>>ROOT<<
>>CWM<<
>>DEODEXED STOCK DXLI1<< (normal)
OR
>>DEODEXED STOCK DXLI1<< (ICS app icon)
Turn off phone, enter recovery mode (press vol up + home + power) as u see samsung word release power button, u are in recovery mode when u see the red text
once in, use vol up and down to go up and down, use home to select...
choose Apply update and choose 1_ROOT.zip...install
reboot....then u will get Superuser icon in app drawer, your phone is now rooted (so the waranty)
enter recovery mode again, now apply update and choose CWM.zip...install
u will now enter CWM (ClockWorkMod recovery)
Choose install update from sdcard> choose zip from sdcard and choose DXLI1_deodexed_by_encik_racun.zip...install
wait for it to finish then reboot
check if you still have root access, if not please install 1_ROOT.zip again in recovery...
your phone now running deodexed stock rom enjoy....
TAKE NOTE!: if u get force close or busybox not working, please download Buaybox Installer from Playstore and update your busybox.
Extra (if u want more) ;
LIDROID TOGGLE
ENABLE CUSTOM BOOTANIMATION
6 VISIBLE TOGGLE
note:
1. Flashlight on Lidroid is not working coz i not add it coz its useless since galaxy y not have camera flash, the white flash on the screen is just a white background not a flash
2. U need to remove bloatwares coz i added full app including Samsung default apps (u can take bloatwares remover script from my signature).
3. Note that i change the default 4 dock icon launcher to 5 dock icon launcher.
4. I also add Link2sd app for convinience (u can remove it in /system/app/ using root explorer if u dislike it)

Installing recoveries directly on your phone
Installing a recovery without a PC can be annoying and sometimes confusing. Here's how to do it anyway (make sure you do know what you're doing):
Both ways require you to download a recovery and put it in your sdcard.
The n00b-Friendly Easy Way
1. Install Flashify from Play Store, open it, and grant Superuser permissions.
2. Wait for it to finish reading recovery info.
3. Select Recovery image, browse to your recovery image, and press Yup!
4. Flashify will now install your recovery. It will prompt you afterwards. You can either reboot to recovery or choose to flash more stuff (or exit the app).
The Geeky Dangerous Way
CAUTION! Using a terminal is extremely dangerous and you might just brick your phone if you enter a bad command.
Note: I will be referring to my recovery image as /sdcard/recovery.img.
1. Install Terminal Emulator from Play Store, open it.
2. Type su, press Enter, and grant Superuser permissions.
3. Type
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
YOU MUST TYPE THE COMMAND EXACTLY AS SHOWN. You have been warned.
The last word in the command is mmcblk (zero) p (eighteen)
The command varies with every phone, but the command above is what works with ours.
4. You can either type "reboot recovery" or exit the app.
How to restore to a Stock ROM:
1) Reboot to STOCK recovery (Vol Up + Home + Power). TAKE NOTE OF YOUR 3-CHARACTER SALES CODE, LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF RECOVERY IN YELLOW TEXT. You will need the code later on. Wipe data three times and reboot to download (Vol Down + Home + Power, press Vol Up when prompted)
2) Download your stock ROM from SamMobile. Find the firmware that matches your sales code.
3) Download Odin 3.07 and install. Also install Samsung Drivers if you haven't already. Connect phone to PC. Make sure Kies.exe or KiesTrayAgent.exe is not running (check in Task Manager)
4) A blue box should appear in Odin. Click PDA, browse for your .tar.md5 file you downloaded from SamMobile, and wait. Odin will freeze. This is normal. DO NOT CLOSE ODIN IN ANY WAY. When Odin unfreezes, uncheck Auto Reboot, and click Start.
5) Odin will commence flashing. When it finishes, disconnect phone from PC, press and hold Power, and go thru Initial Setup.

If you want a custom recovery with all the options of CWM then get shabbypenguin's OUDHS-based version found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240989 . But to get it to remain as your recovery instead of it reverting back to stock every time you reboot just follow my instructions found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240989&page=4
If you do this you will have all the options of CWM at your disposal. I have read it is compatible with the i8730 but that you just couldn't get it to be permanent. Follow what I have written here and ENJOY!

I tried Shabbypenguin's recovery back in early May, but I was stuck at the "RECOVERY BOOTING..." screen. I left it like that for like 15 minutes and nothing happened. Also there is no "install-recovery.sh" file.
Is that supposed to happen?

You are rooted and did use a quality app for your filesystem explorer, right? If any of this isn't true you won't be able to find the file. If it isn't there, then it is like the newer i437s and isn't like mine which allows you to just rename a file to allow a custom recovery to be permanent and name it back to get back to the stock recovery. Also, when I installed shabbypenguin's custom recovery version 1.0.3.3 I couldn't do it with the .exe file. I had to do it thru ODIN.

If X-plore, ES File Explorer, and Root Explorer count as quality apps, then yes. I am rooted, I can su from the terminal, I can remount partitions as rw or ro, so that's another yes.
You mean I need to use the .tar.md5 file and not the odin oneclick?

It was worth checking. I am sorry you don't have the files. They make working with custom recoveries and then reverting back to the stock one so much easier.

All I can tell you is that the oneclick didn't work for my phone. It just locked up or went dead or something just like it. I had to use ODIN with this file "Express-OUDHS-CWM.tar". It is a .tar file not a .md5 file. You can get that file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240989
It is the first file shabbypenguin posts there. Use it with ODIN 3.04 which is posted right below it. But you must make sure that your drivers are properly installed first. You can check it by attaching the phone and after a few moments go to My Computer or File Explorer and see if it is listed as a drive.

No worries. I much prefer using dd on the terminal anyways.
So umm. Do you think I should try again or wait for the mysterious CWM that was made by @jt1134?

What would it hurt to try again? Just verify that you can see the phone on My Computer first when it is hooked up to the USB cable before you try going into Download mode. I don't see much reason to wait. Shabbypenguin's version does everything the regular CWM does. It just has a few tweaks to get it to work with the Express. But if you want to wait so that your phone says 6.0.3.3 then I guess you might want to wait for jt1134. I do not know what it would have that shabbypenguin's doesn't but its up to you.

I have spent thousands of dollars just because I always want the latest and greatest, even if it hasn't got any improvements over the old. So yes, I understand. Don't worry, the shabbypenguin version has all the bells and whistles and you can make your nandroid. That was the first thing I did.

[Guide] Root Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 P5200/P5210 without pre-rooted firmware

Hello everyone,
my english is not too good so exuse me.
This guide is for Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 P5200/P5210 only.
i take not responsibility for bricking your device so please be carefull.
*NEW* video tutorial of this guide (made by @hamsturcio)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9TSr-5P20Y
i have rooted my galaxy tab 3 10.1 P5200 without pre-rooted firmware and i want to show you all how i did:
1-Download TWRP Recovery (make sure to use the version that matches your tab model):
Link for the P5200 model: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952613332
Link for the P5210 model: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952613346
*or you can use CWM recovery incase if TWRP recovery doesn't work:
Link for CWM recovery non-touch (works on both P5200 and P5210):
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23125694133305802
2-Download Odin 3.07:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23060877490002273
3-Download the ROOT file (SuperSU)*:
https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU
*Incase if the SuperSU root method doesn't work, try this one instead (Superuser):
http://www59.zippyshare.com/v/96195148/file.html
4-Reboot into download mode(hold volume down+power) you will see a warning message, press volume up to continune, and your tab is now on download mode.
5-Open Odin,Connect the Tab to the computer and click on PDA,then select the TWRP recovery,
-make sure to uncheck 'auto-reboot' before flashing, because the tab might reinstall the stock recovery (thank you @Benzoman for telling me that).
6-When done, reboot the tab,and copy the ROOT file directly to the internal storage of the tab (or even external sdcard) and reboot into recovery (hold volume up+power).
7-Select install zip from sdcard, locate the root file where you have copied it (Internal storage or sdcard) and select it.
8-Flash the root file.
9-Reboot the tab,you will see a new app called SuperSU or Superuser, and surprise your tab is rooted
Credits goes to the developers who made the rooting method possibe on this device,i didn't make them so im only here to share information.
Have a nice day!!
Great guide. First one using twrp for the 10.1
Works great. Only suggestion is to uncheck auto reboot in odin because some people have issues with the tab reinstalling stock recovery with auto reboot.

Yes it nice to have root. TWRP is a little laggy though. It take a few swipes to get it repond sometimes. CMW is another alt but it takes up a whole lot of room for a backup. Almsot 9 gigs! TWRP is closer to 2.5 gigs for a full back up.

You should download TWRP to your PC since you're going to flash it with Odin and the other to the tab because you're going to use it in the new custom recovery ie..TWRP

quick question about step 7
In step 7, we are instructed to "install zip from sdcard and choose the root file." I downloaded all the required files onto my computer. To complete step 7 as instructed, do I have to copy the file to the sd card that is in my Tablet so the zip file installs from there or is this a step that is completed through the Odin program and installed off the Root file on my computer? I hope this question makes sense...
Thank you!
Hi depkat,
extSDcard is what I used..
The whole process of rooting was very simple
Sorry EDIT..for clarity
When you complete 'Step 6' you will see where it's needed
(Very clear option top left hand corner on Tab 3's screen - at beginning of step 7)
Last question!
Once the root is complete, which I successfully done, how to we move apps to the sd card? on my phone i used FolderMount. I tried that on the Tab and the errors were great! I could not see storage availability and it just did not work right on the Tab3. Any ideas?

1. If you look at the Tab 3's 'built in' "Application Manager" you will see an option move apps
Can be found "Settings">>"Application Manager">>select app you wish to move>>"Move to SD card
(or the reverse "Move to device Storage" from SD)
2. ES File Manager <<- great tool - worth spending the time reviewing all it's options, doing so will surely save 'anyone' time later on.
(Hint: add/remove apps withOUT prompts (true batch) - back up apps with data etc etc)
Hope this helps
What we really need, is a thread with "Must have Apps for our Galaxy Tab 3s"
with notes on apps to avoid
Best browser I found 'so far' is Dolphin with it's 'Jet Pack' add on
I think you need to add little bit more info to your OP
Because right after the first reboot. You need to immediately press and hold power + volume down button. Reason for that is Stock rom replaces the recovery in the first reboot. So you want to get in to recovery before rom replaces with stock one.
When you exit CWM it will ask you If you want to disable recovery flash.
This info would save a lot of time for other people.

Im a bit confused.
Benzoman told me to uncheck the "auto reboot" when flashing the recovery with odin to prevent the stock ROM from replacing the recovery, and you told me "after the first reboot,to press and hold power + volume down because the stock rom replaces the recovery on the first reboot"What do you mean by the first reboot?before or after flashing the recovery?

If you uncheck auto reboot you avoid the replacement of stock recovery. Giving you the time to boot into the new recovery and reboot without stock recovery installing. Hope this makes sense. Some people have had success not unchecking auto reboot and haven't had any problems with stock recovery reinstalling on reboot. So it seems to suggest using the method of unchecking auto reboot would work for everyone even if they weren't going to have the stock restore issue.
