this sucks - Samsung Infuse 4G

Can't anyone explain roms and kernels. How do you do it and why can't anybody tell me now? All I want is a new kernal and from there on put dlevrom 5.0 on my infuse! Why is it so impossible? show me how instead of sending me some stupid link

For one...are you rooted? If so..you don't need a kernel to flash dlev rom ...if you don't have recovery just put phone in download mode flash Odin community kernel to get recovery go to recovery and flash dlev rom ...not rocket science if u read...

^THIS.
If you read instead of complaining and giving up, it's simple. Everyone here has been in your shoes at some point, but they searched, read, and figured it out. There's nothing hard to do here. Just read and follow simple instructions.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium

1) You must be rooted.
2) If you have a /Voodoo folder on your internal SD card, delete it and reboot.
3) If you're already running a custom ROM with Voodoo lagfix FULLY enabled, you can skip to step 7.
4) Download*CWM-community-kernel-v8.zip
*if you're on Froyo and place it on your internal SD card.
5) Install SGS Kernel Flasher from the Market.
6) Open SGS Kernel Flasher, select choose kernel, select the file you downloaded, and select flash kernel. Your phone will reboot and begin to enable Voodoo lagfix. Let it do that and boot all the way up. It will take a while (5-10 minutes) because it's converting all partitions to ext4.
7) Download the rom of your choice and place it on your internal SD card.
8) Power off your phone.
9) With the phone powered off, hold both volume keys and the power button for about 10 seconds and then release. This should boot you into*RED*CWM.
10) Select "install zip from sdcard" and select the ROM zip.
11) Once that finishes, select "wipe data/factory reset".
12) Select "reboot system now".
13) Do NOT restore system data with Titanium Backup. Do NOT restore ALL apps with data. If you absolutely must restore something with Titanium Backup, only restore MISSING apps with data.
I don't know if English is your second language but i do not understand why you don't want to read.
You are going to brick your phone if you don't read.
Up above are the directions I followed to get modified recovery. From there you need to go to cwm (red) and you can flash whatever roms you want.
I stole these directions from GTGs infused rom. So thanks gtg.

I'm not a fan of CWM either. Prefer to flash roms with Odin.
Just in case you give up, heres how to get into download mode (being that this is your thread and you don't need a lecture):
1. Power off
2. Pull out battery
3. Plug in USB cable
4. Press and HOLD both volume buttons together and replace battery
5. Keep holding both volume buttons together till yellow download screen appears (newer roms may have an "Are you sure?" screen. Press volume up and you're good to go.

I'm glad y'all explained this...thanks...I can't count how many times I've explained it in the last 3 days..please with all due respect...read...I learned how to port and now building my own rom from READING...ALOT...and studying...and some advice along the way...but they were thru pms ...I did not make a whole thread on it...thanks yall

[Guide] *NOOB's* guide to flashing FROYO <> With the GB release

I am putting this up for new users of the Samsung Galaxy S 4g that are having issues with flashing, well, pretty much any rom right now.
1) The main issue right now is our recovery and rom manager not working together....NOT THE ROM's!
2) Here is a walk through for problem free flashing (I have officially flashed every rom posted here right now and have no issues whatsoever)
So here we go:
1) I'll start this assuming you have already rooted.
2) Download the update.zip and recovery from HERE
3) Place files on the root of your sdcard (not in any file) DO NOT UNZIP THE UPDATE.ZIP!!!
4) You must have a file system explorer with root permissions (IE...Root Explorer or equivalent)
5) Once in Root Explorer, your system MUST BE MOUNTED AS R/W, navigate to your sdcard, find the recovery file you downloaded and long press....select "copy"
6) Hit the back button until you return to the file marked "/" and make sure it is still mounted r/w, then navigate to system, then bin. Once you are in bin (this is important) hit "paste" on the bottom of your screen. It will ask if you want to overwrite the existing recovery. Select yes. DO NOT REPLACE IT, ONLY OVERWRITE IT!!!
7) Keep hitting the back button on your phone until you exit out of root explorer.
8) Power off your phone, then, after fully shut down, holding volume up AND down plus power (yes, hold all 3 of them) you will enter a blue stock recovery screen. Scroll down 1 option to "reinstall packages", press power........you should now be in the orange Clockwork Mod recovery.
9) Scroll down to "backup and restore" and hit power, then go to "Backup" and hit power. Let it do it's thing. This will create a backup on your sdcard in a file called "clockwork". Keep this so you can restore in case something goes wrong (or like me, like to change things up all the time).
10) Now, again, I will assume that you have the rom of your choice on the root of your sdcard. This is where things get screwy....so pay attention to the OP's instructions for mounts. Scroll to "mounts and storage" and hit power.
11) The first 4 things you will see are : /cache, /data, /sdcard, and /system. This is where you need to pay close attention to what you are doing.
A) For KD1 and Bionix Frost your mounts must appear like this:
/cache : unmount
/data : mount
/sdcard : mount
/system : unmount
B) For Trigger your mounts must appear like this:
/cache : unmount
/data : unmount
/sdcard : mount
/system : unmount
If they are not in this order, change them so they are, or it will flash but will not boot. YOU WILL BE IN A SOFT BRICK STATE THAT REQUIRES ODIN TO FIX!!!!
12) Install RomManager if you wish, but DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT FLASH CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY FROM THE LIST, this will cause your phone to get stuck at wiping a file called /.android_ secure in recovery.....so once again, HELLO ODIN! Also DO NOT REBOOT RECOVERY from rom manager, this will also cause /.android_secure to not wipe.....so once again, HELLO ODIN!
Last but not least, follow instructions on the OP to the "T" and you will be fine, unless you enjoy odin that much.....personally, I hate it.
If anything here is wrong or not working for you, please let me know so I can fix/update this. Please double/triple check everything that you did and make sure it is correct before *****ing "It's still not working".......because it does work. I have flashed and flashed and flashed with only 1 soft brick, and that was my fault.....not these instructions fault.
To see if I can make this make a little more sense now, here we go: The reason for changing mounts is that, by default, /system is not mounted. To be able to flash and boot successfully, it has to be. When you are looking at them, it will say "mount", this means that it is NOT mounted. If it says "unmount", then it means it IS mounted, confused yet? Just remember it like this: It is the opposite of what it says...so make sure that system says "unmount", which actually means it's mounted. This step is absolutely CRUCIAL.
Enjoy the hell out of your bad ass Samsung Galaxy S 4g, because I am
This should definitely make the sgs4g bible. Its a great tutorial on getting through the flashing issues people are having. Thank you this is ( . ) ( . )

Great job! I just came from the HD2 and was wondering if any of these roms helps the ****ty battery life?
They are all better than stock for sure. Also if you use the battery recalibration trick.....its much better.

yes im a noob and yes i approve of these directions lol ya followed to the letter got clock work installed and bali installed ty
I got a question. I have this problem since I screwed up flashing the first Trigger, and then, with a brain fart, odining with the Vibrant .pit file. I got it fixed but now it will not let me change the /cache mount. I am running Trigger .4 with no problems but just curious why I can't change that mount. When I go into root explorer the only file in there is "lost&found"????
Let me do some research on that one, lol.

Nevermind, figured it out.

[ROM][UXKG3] Stock rooted packages (fixed versions up now)

About:
These are both stock Rogers UXKG3 Gingerbread packages. The Odin package is odexed and the only thing added to it is root. The CWM package has root as well and is also de-odexed.
WARNING:
Neither of these packages includes Gingerbread bootloaders so the rainbow bug will be present on these ROMs unless you own a Rogers Infuse.
Odin Instructions:
1) Make sure the drivers for the Infuse 4G are installed. (Installing Kies is the easiest way to accomplish this.)
2) Download and unzip Odin_UXKG3_rooted_no_bootloaders.zip.
3) Run Odin v1.81 as administrator.
4) Place your phone into download mode. (Pull battery, replace battery, and press and hold both volume buttons while plugging in the USB cable.)
5) Make sure your phone shows up in Odin as COM##.
6) Click the PDA button and choose PDA_UXKG3_rooted_no_bootloaders.tar.md5.
7) Click the PHONE button and choose PHONE_UXKG3.tar.md5.
8) Press Start.
9) If the phone doesn't automatically reboot after it completes the flash, just pull the battery and then replace it and turn on the phone.
10) You should perform a factory reset after it boots. Go to Settings > Privacy and select factory reset. Warning: This will clear everything on your internal SD card, so move everything you want to keep to the external SD card first.
CWM Instructions:
1) You must be rooted and have CWM recovery set up.
2) If you have Voodoo lagfix enabled, disable it. Instructions can be found below.
3) Download CWM-UXKG3-rooted-de-odexed-update.zip and place it on your internal SD card.
4) Power off your phone.
5) With the phone powered off, hold both volume keys and the power button for about 10 seconds and then release. If blue 3e recovery comes up, you need to select reinstall packages. This should boot you into CWM.
6) Select "install zip from sdcard" and select CWM-UXKG3-rooted-de-odexed-update.zip.
7) Once that finishes, select "wipe data/factory reset".
8) Select "reboot system now".
9) If it doesn't boot, it probably means CWM couldn't mount the partitions for a proper install for whatever reason. Apparently this is happening to some after disabling voodoo. You'll need to flash to stock and start from there, but it should work then.
How to Disable Voodoo Lagfix (2 Methods):
-Method 1: Create a file or folder named "disable-lagfix" in the Voodoo folder on your internal SD card and reboot.
-Method 2: Boot into CWM recovery and select "voodoo lagfix" > "disable lagfix" > "reboot system now".
--Downloads--
Odin_UXKG3_rooted_no_bootloaders_v2.zip (177MB)
CWM-UXKG3-rooted-de-odexed-update-v2.zip (173MB)
I do this for fun so you shouldn't feel any obligation to donate, but here's a link if you want to. Donations of any amount are very much appreciated.
Very nice!

The first dump we had was clean, but it was a test build so it had a bunch of extra development stuff. All of the extra stuff was removed from my ROM however and the apps and framework in my ROM are based off of this non-test release build. So my ROM is essentially this package plus all of the goodies I added and changes I made.

Step by Step how to install your 1st Rom

Is there a Step by Step, From A-Z guide for "dummies" on how to install a Rom? Let's assume that the phone is rooted and you have SUPERUSER & CWM installed.
A guide that includes things like; do you download the Rom to your p.c. or can you just download the Rom to your external or internal Sd card, & if so... does it matter which?
Can you use CWM to reboot your phone, or do you HAVE to use the volume/ power?
When you choose a Rom, do you start at the Original Post.. or is there a way to just download the latest version?
I'm pretty sure that there a lots of people with these questions... Some, like me that are really nervous about mucking up their phone, have read lots & lots & lots... but don't know anyone near them that could provide some hands on help... just in case..

1. Download ROM to PC. Copy ROM to phone sdcard.
2. Charge phone to 100%.
3. Reboot into CWM Recovery through:
a. ROM Manager app > Select Reboot into Recovery. Or,
b. Shutdown phone. Press and hold Volume + Power button.
4. Do a Nandroid backup. Using volume, scroll down to back up and restore. Press power to select. Scroll down again and select backup to internal sdcard.
5. Go back to main menu. Select Wipe data/factory reset. Select Yes. Maybe do this at least 3 times.
6. Go to advanced. Select Wipe Dalvic Cache. Select Yes. Also do 3 times.
7. Go back to main menu. Select install zip from sdcard. Select choose zip from internal sdcard. Select the ROM you wish to flash.
8. Reboot.
Some devs have extra steps so be sure to read their install instructions.
Also, read up in the Original post. It should contain the latest version and instructions for the ROM.
I download the ROM to my phone then use root explorer to move/paste it to external sd card.
Here is noob guide that will help you. Just scroll down and read I believe everything is there and after reading it you will be able to start flashing. If you think something needs to add up please post in the thread.

Thanks, that's Excellent!!
A couple of follow up questions...
1) Do you HAVE to download the Rom to your p.c. first?
2)Which SD card do you need to copy or... depending on the answer to #1 download the Rom to?
3) Once you have wiped everything & installed the Rom with CWM, will all your apps & settings be erased?
Do you need to use Titanium to restore the apps & data?
I realize that these questions may seem ridiculous to some people... but I figure it is better to ask How before ...rather than crying for Help after.
I for one REALLY appreciate the guide... I hope that it will help some others too!

1) Do you HAVE to download the Rom to your p.c. first?
No you can dload it to ur phone.
2)Which SD card do you need to copy or... depending on the answer to #1 download the Rom to?
It does not matter where you put your rom. You can either put it in internal or external sd card.
3) Once you have wiped everything & installed the Rom with CWM, will all your apps & settings be erased?
Everything will be erased once you wipe data in cwm.
Do you need to use Titanium to restore the apps & data?
Yes do titanium back up of your system data+ apps before flashing anything so after flashing you can restore that. Plus do nandroid so you can have stock rom saved.

[Q] Installing Hellfire Phoenix

I'm about to get a g2x very soon, and i heard that the stock rom sucks and that Hellfire Pheonix's is best. The instructions given on the op was not very beginner friendly, so i'm a bit confuse. This is going to be my first android and i would appreciate it if someone could link me to some sort of reference and tutorial for the installation of Hellfire Phoenix.
I've searched and google, but i had no luck. If you guys know if a detailed tutorial is out there, then just tell me and i'll put more effort into finding my answer. Thank you very much.
EDIT: To be more specific, what threw me off was "DO NOT use CWM to load the rom to your SD card. CWM has been known to cause file corruption when using it to transfer the zip file.". From all the tutorials that i've read and seen, they all use cwm. what are the alternatives?

What it means is don't boot into CWM and mount usb storage and copy files to sd card from there because it is known to corrupt the file and then could end up in a bad flash and it could harm ur phone.
When ur gonna copy the rom ur gonna flash to ur sd card, make sure ur booted into android first and mount usb storage from there.
Hope this helped

Correct.
Now, to fully answer your question:
Ok, adding this in after I wrote this to make things clearer: before starting make sure you:
1. Have G2x scrubber in the root of your SD card
2. Have the zip for your ROM (HFP in this case) in the root of your SD card
3. Have a copy of gapps (Google Apps) in the root of your sd card, get it here
4. After flashing CWM make a back-up (nandroid) of your stock ROM via CWM
First you need to flash Clockwork Mod (CWM) on your phone go here for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Also, note: NEVER use ROM manager to flash CWM.
Second grab G2x scrubber from the HFP thread.
Next boot into CWM by holding volume down and power at the same time as the phone starts up. I find it helpful to count to three (eg, one one thousand, two one thousand, etc) after the blue and white (as opposed to plain white) LG logo first appears, that way you will have your finger off the power button when CWM starts. And in case it needs to be explained: you navigate CWM via the volume keys and make selections with the power button.
So, having downloaded G2x scrubber to your phone, go to "install zip from SD card" then "choose zip from SDcard" and navigate to G2x scrubber, run it twice.
Once that is done, use the same install zip option and this time choose the HFP zip.
Next select the gapps zip and flash it.
You're all done. Reboot and enjoy.
Thanks for the helpful replies! I feel very confident about modding my g2x when i get it now!
EDIT: Do i need to root my phone if i'm going to install HFP?

No, just use NVFlasher to flash ClockWorkMod Recovery, then flash your rom. You'll be rooted when you finish.
I found good guides on TheUnlockr. There are links in the thread discussing Hellfire Sandwich (HFS). If you don't need wifi calling or the ability to take video I would recommend using HFS v1.2. It is an update to ICS (Android 4.0.x) but it is not completely stable yet.

{REF}New User Guide to Flashing CM7 via ClockWorkMod

Well, It seems we are having a rash of new users obtaining used and refurbed G2x(s). A lot of these guys are jumping into rooting and flashing and as the XDA G2x community shrinks, the remaining "senior G2x members" are trying to help as much as possible. I have decided to write up this tips and install help guide so the new users have updated information. You may ask how I may be qualified to write this guide? I can say I've been on XDA shorter than the time I've owned and modded this phone. I think I've had this phone 15 months now. These are the procedures I follow to a T every time and always produce a solid and stable setup. I have flashed everything for this phone, literally, and find CM7 is the only stable choice for custom ROMs.
POST 1: INSTALLING CM7 via ClockWorkMod
POST 2: <reserved>(CM7 Setup Tips)
POST 3: <reserved>
I am writing this guide assuming a few things:
1. You are already running ClockWorkMod Recovery that was installed properly via NVFlash, NOT ROM MANAGER. If you used ROM Manager to install CWM, STOP, and follow this guide to properly flash CWM using NVFlash.
[RECOVERY][APP] 4-28 One-Click NvFlasher ClockWorkMod Touch 5.8.1.3/5.0.2.0/4.0.1.5
2. You want stability and have decided to flash CM7. This guide will always support the night-lies, although I am sure the stable CM7 release can be used in place, I have ran into troubleshooting issues that were resolved by moving them over to the updated source... night-lies! (or monthlies now? lol)
3. You will be flashing a custom kernel, meaning you will not be using the stock CM7 kernel, which sucks anyways. I will only offer support in this thread for users who have flashed Faux 054 or ANY Mazout360 (v0130 and up, OC variants only) kernel.
4. You are on the March 11, 2012 BASEBAND (LG Stock Android 2.3.4)
5. You have basic knowledge of file extensions (.zip,.apk,etc.), and have basic knowledge of how to manipulate and navigate files and file directories.
6. That you have an External MicroSD card and a MicroSD card reader for your PC.
7. That you have backed up any personal data from the phone as you will LOSE EVERYTHING on the phone.
8. Phone is fully charged and/or plugged in.
9. You are fully aware that using any ROM other than LG Stock 2.3.4, or a rooted LG stock 2.3.4 variant on the March 11, 2012 baseband WILL BREAK BLUETOOTH CALL AUDIO, MEDIA AUDIO (music, games, movies etc) WORKS 100%
That said, now for the fun stuff.
You will need the following files:
The latest CM7 release for our P999 from Cyanogenmod The latest release as of this guide: 3-1-2013
Gapps Pack (Required for Playstore etc..)
Kernel (if not using CM7 stock kernel, find in link in my signature or over in the development section.
The Fix for the March 11 2012 baseband, newbaseband.zip
So now you should have 4 files, ROM, kernel, Gapps, and newbaseband. And they should all be in .zip format. You will need to place these on the ROOT DIRECTORY of your MicroSD card.
And now we flash your new setup!
1. With your phone off, boot into CWM (I use CWM 5.0.2.0) by pressing and holding the Power & Vol - buttons until you see the second LG logo with the blue streak and release. Welcome to CWM.
2. You need to wipe the phones previous data. To do this use the Vol +/- keys to scroll up and down, and tap the power key to select options and than select:
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-select advanced-->wipe dalvik cache
-GO BACK to CWM Main Menu
-select mounts and storage
-format /system
-GO BACK to CWM Main Menu
That's it for wiping.
3. Let's flash this so we can play with our new shiny toy.
-select install zip from sdcard
-choose zip from sdcard
-scroll and select your ROM from the file list
Now you will repeat this process and flash
-Custom Kernel
-newbaseband.zip
-Gapps Package
That's it! Go back to CWM Main if not already there and "reboot system now".
-First boot can take up to 10mins depending on kernel used.
-After the phone boots, LET IT SIT FOR 10MINS, DO NOT USE IT.
-Reboot
-Wait 5 mins and than proceed with inital phone setup.
-Reboot and wait 5 mins and than proceed with using the phone as you see fit.
I will be adding in some CM7 and kernel related setup tips tomorrow in post #2, as well as re-formatting post #1. It's 4:33am as of this writing, I need to go sleep!
