How to go back to stock? - Asus Transformer TF700

What would be the best way to go back to complete stock (no root). Having some trouble updating to JB and just want to do it the old fashioned way.

Are you unlocked? If so, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803343
It says .26 but it should work for JB
Edit: if unlocked you need to flash the new JB compatible TWRP or CWM too!

I assumed that you either have twrp or cwm installed since you're unlocked. The below instruction is much better.
CREDIT to Pretoriano80:
========= Recover Factory Restore with custom recovery =========
1) Download the latest firmware from Asus site (based os your SKU,eg. ww 9.4.5.26 * firmware)
2) Extract the download zip file somewere on your desktop. The file name should be EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip
3) Copy EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip to the root of your MicroSD card
4) Insert the MicroSD card in your tablet and use button combination to go to recovery --> Start the tablet by pressing Volume Down and POWER together for 5 seconds ,a message will inform you that you have 5 seconds to enter the recovery, press Volume UP before the 5 seconds expire
5) From the recovery menu press Install and select the "EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip" file ...wait until the install process ends and then restart your device.

Ok so this worked to bring me back to stock, but when I went to update it was still telling me "no update available". So I booted to recovery to make sure i didn't have twrp anymore and it went to stock recovery. Unfortunately the little android guy had a red "!" and it said it couldn't find "/sdcard" and that the update failed.
I just want jellybean :/

Borrow a microSD card from your phone temporarily if you need to.....
I have a very old 2 GB microSD that I keep lying around for situations like this....might not be a bad idea to pick one up at a local store.

Because you have unlocked bootloader, that's why you can't use OTA to update, you need re root and with twrp/cwm, you could install the OTA patch version of JB (incremental update). You could use the stock recovery to update to full version JB, but then you will lose root. If you don't know how I can provide some instructions for you.

[Q] Restoring stock firmware

I'm running a custom ICS rom with CWM recovery but want to revert to stock so I can sell my Transformer. Is there an easy way to flash back to stock in one step?
You should search the forum for NVFlash...
NVFlash is not necessary to return to stock ICS. Just download official Asus firmware from the asus site and flash it like you would a custom rom. It will return you to stock firmware and recovery.
+1 To above, that's all you need to do.
I might be wrong, but it is said by many that official firmware zip cannot be flashed by cwm recovery until it is repackged for cwm. Wolf just
published a new way to root/unroot/degrade rooted and un-rppted TF:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622628
Why don't you have a look there.

Agreed I'm interested in this as well as I'm giving mine to my dad and I don't want to have to worry bout flashing it a lot for him.
Ive just downloaded firmware from asus site put it on sdcadd and in cwm i tried it to flash, but no success update aborted or something similarafter opening update package
Edit: do not forget to unzip the package downloaded from Asud site before flashing!
It worked like a charm. After flashing in cwm it restarts it update apps as after rom update and then you have pop up that firmware update is avaible, the same as with asus ota

i can confirm that this is the proper procedure (because i did it just seconds ago literally)
1. download the firmware from Asus (http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=20&s=16&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+TF101&os=32)
2. extract the zip in the zip.
3. copy the resulting zip file (the zip in the zip) on the sdcard (or micro sd if you are using roach's 3.2.0.1 like i was)
4. reboot in recovery, that is, shut down, then pwr + vol down until there is a prompt, then vol. up.
5. select apply update from sdcard, select choose zip, navigate to where you placed the zip file on your card
6. Flash it. (and cross fingers, never hurts)
7. normally it will work, then reboot the tablet using the reboot system now function
8. Once its rebooted, it will apply updates to application and a "warning/exclamation" sign will prompt you to install the firmware you just downloaded. install it.
9. once that is done, you will have reverted to stock firmware. leaving your transformer to feel like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eRd923m9go

After this is possible to see if transfomer was rooted or runned a custom rom? Might sound dumb, but i read some time ago (cant find where) about some "not so easy" procedures to return stock for warranty.
i can vouch for my TF being unrooted again. simply open ROM Manager and it should tell you right away that you need to be rooted.
an expert could confirm but im pretty sure that after installing ASUS's firmware all binaries themselves should be stock. after, you always have the option to factory reset the TF and that should clear any possible leftovers.

In step 8, what is the firmware I need to install? Has not the update do the install of the tf101 firmware?
the tf will install the firmware you just install "for real". its the best i can say, i cannot really explain why a real expert could. im just a guy who followed indications
but i know that te TF will detect the firmware you installed in recovery and re-install it for itself and this time it will completely re-stock and un-root your TF.
oh and about re-rooting, if you stocked the TF, you'll need to search the forums here as you'll need to apply the same rooting techniques for an unrooted TF. best way to find out if you don't know is to install rom manager from the market. it'll tell you right away if you are rooted or not.

Yes i didn't think the whole number was a requirement for everyone to see after I sent it to you, do you have any other suggestions? apprentley I can do it manually using these instructions:
Check your device’s SKU through the following procedure.
On the tablet, go into Settings » About tablet. Then, check the Build number.
If the build number starts with “TW”, your SKU is TW. Similarly, if your build number starts with “US”, you must download the firmware for the US SKU. Similarly for WW, you need to download the WW firmware.
Download the update for your SKU from the official ASUS website. Select Android from the drop-down box, click on Firmware, then download the latest update’s file.
Extract the downloaded zip file once to obtain another zip file.
Now, we need to copy the obtained zip file to the tablet.
If you have a custom recovery like ClockworkMod or TWRP installed on the tablet, copy the zip file obtained in step 3 to the internal SD card.
If you are on stock recovery on the tablet, rename the file to ”EP201_768_SDUPDATE”, then copy it to the external SD card.
[Important] Now, further steps depend on whether you have stock recovery on the tablet or are using a custom recovery like ClockworkMod or TWRP recovery. Follow step 6 if you have stock recovery on the tablet, or step 7 if on a custom recovery.
For stock recovery
Shut down the tablet. Hold Power + Vol Down buttons until a message appears saying “Press Vol. Up to enter RCK (5s)”. Here, press the Volume Up key within 5 seconds to enter recovery.
The update will automatically start installing, then the tablet will reboot after the update is finished.
You can now stop following the guide as your tablet has now been updated.
For custom recovery
Shut down the tablet. Hold Power + Vol Down buttons until a message appears saying “Press Vol. Up to enter RCK (5s)”. Here, press the Volume Up key within 5 seconds to enter recovery.
Select wipe cache, then select Yes to confirm cache wipe (if using TWRP recovery, select Wipe, then select Cache/dalvik cache).
Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Scroll to and select the update file that you copied to the tablet in step 4. Confirm installation by selecting Yes on the next screen. (if using TWRP recovery, select Install, then select the update file)
After the update is installed, select go back then select reboot system now to reboot the tablet (if using TWRP recovery, select the Reboot system button to reboot the tablet).
After the tablet reboots, it will be running the latest firmware.

Don't worry about the OTA, this is the incremental update, you want the full version update anyway. Just follow the direction that you posted above. Do you want to root your device? if you do, you need to do it now before upgrade to Jelly Bean. Once you're on Jellybean, you can't root anymore.

I was able to get to Jellybean per the below method with my stock Infinity. The issue is that OTA Root Keeper doesn't seem to keep root with installing from/with a EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip.

First most important, you need to make a NVflash backup of your bootloader, BEFORE PROCEED to upgrade. This is very important, once you upgrade you will not able to do so.

Let do one step at a time. NVflash is very very critical, once you upgrade you will not able to do this. NVflash backup help you to recover from a soft brick situation. After you done with NVflash, here is how to manual upgrade to JB.
1) Download the .30 verion firmware from Asus site (make sure if you in US, you should download the US version of .30)
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ASUS+Transformer+Pad+Infinity+TF700T&p=20&s=16
2) Extract the .zip file somehwere on your desktop (the result will be another .zip file, use it for step 3)
3) Rename the extracted file to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.ZIP and copy it to the ROOT of a MicroSD card or INTERNAL SD card.
4) Use this button combination to get to stock recovery mode
Turn off tablet. Pressing Volume Down and POWER button together until you see white text message appeared on the screen, now release both buttons. Now press Volume UP button (before the 5 seconds expire). At this point the device will go in recovery and should start updating your firmware .
Once done, I will go into how to root.

1. Yes, if you DON'T want to UNLOCK to root your device. Once you're on .30, you root then use OTA root keeper to save root then upgrade to JB.
2. If you went straight to JB, then you need to unlock in order to root. This will be more complicate, since you need to install custom recovery, fastboot and SDK.

Most of bricking caused by operators' errors, like using the wrong recovery, wrong bootloader/wrong version for the rom etc.., but if you careful, by doing search and ask first then it's pretty safe to flash custom rom.

None at all. Let assumed you did the nvflash (backup your .26 bootloader). The simple process would be, download full .30 rom from Asus site, place on root of your external micro SD card or internal SDcard, boot into stock recovery and flash it. Next root your device, then download OTA root keeper to save your root. Let OTA upgrade your device, if OTA is not working, then manually upgrade to JB. Once on JB, use OTA root keeper to restore root. That's it.

Well, if you plan to run custom rom, you need to unlock and custom roms come pre-rooted, so you don't have to worry about losing root.

On your PC you need the following:
1. Android SDK (should comes with ADB and fastboot commands).
2. USB driver for your device.
You are going to use fastboot command to install custom recovery, or you could download Goomanager from Googleplay and install TWRP this way. Once you have TWRP/CWR, you boot into custom recovery mode (hold down volume down and power button), then find the custom rom then flash it, pretty straight forward.

Download the latest version from Asus site.
Unzip the download file and you see another zipfile named US_epad-user-10.4.4.20.zip, copy this file to the root of your sd card (don't put it in any folder). Reboot your device, once device boot up, open up the notification and you should see the update, tab on this and it will update.
does not give me the option to install the 4.20.zip something still must be wrong
I encountered this error once. I was able to troubleshoot it, but I cannot remember very clearly what I did. It's probably because either 1) you have not unzipped the file (you need the zip file that's in the zip file you downloaded), 2) because there should be no spaces in the file name (and yet some have reported success when they renamed the file to contain a space where normally the underscore would be located; and 3) it should be located on the root of the microSD card-- no other location seems to work dependably.
If all three are OK, get back in here and well take the matter from there.

I had the same problem. here is how i solved it:
1- root you device
2- install Goomanager from the market and from the menu install open recovery script
3- power off and then boot to recovery (power + volume down)
4- once in in the recovery flash the update

TWRP is custom recovery instead of stock default recovery come with your tf700. It uses to flash rom/kernel etc.. You need to unlock your device to use twrp. You are no where near this step yet. Do you plan to unlock your device?
OK i got it without having to root it or anything have to re name the file to a certain name... but what asus has posted on there site with an 11-7 date is actually from October 26 ......WTF Asus

[Q] docking station does not work

Hi i got my docking station to day and the only thing that works is the mouse function, i cannot write anything anywhere, i have it to default swedish and i have uninstalled swift key but not sixaxis, i have restarted it several times, is it possible that my custom rom makes it incompatible? Same procedure as with stock or with custom rom. Go into recovery, select the Android Icon with vol down then hit vol up twice to execute.

Haha you're in luck. There is a new tool that allow you to root while on JB rom. So I recommend to download the FULL ASUS rom from Asus website, unzip the file then use your twrp to flash this rom. After this, you will be on the latest 4.2 but you will lose root and TWRP. Then go here to get the tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230763 and root your JB. Once done download Goomanager from the market and install the latest TWRP. From here on you can flash what ever you like.

Since you only have stock recovery, you need to do this:
1. Download the latest Asus full firmware from Asus site. Decompress downloaded .zip file (it will be another .zip)
2. Rename the new zip file to EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip
3. Format FAT32 the MicroSD card that you will be using for the update process
4. Copy the file to (the root directory of) your MicroSD
5. Insert it into the tablet
6. Shutdown (power off) the tablet
7. Power it on by pressing and holding VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons simultaneously
8. When you see white text in the top left corner of the screen, release the buttons, then press VOLUME UP button twice, the upgrade process
should start...
9. Wait patiently for 10 minutes or so
Once done, use Asus unlock tool to unlock then use motochopper to root and once rooted download Goomanager app from the market to install custom recovery (TWRP). Finally use TWRP to flash ROM/Kernel.

If you device is NOT unlocked, you can't flash TWRP or custom rom/kernel. You only can do root.
Edit: You need to unlock your device first using Asus unlock tool (Version 7) can be download from Asus website.

Oh no ..not good. You have 2 options: 1) keep trying or 2) Need to escalate to Asus tech support, more info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187777&page=2
