How to force ICS to tablet mode? - General Questions and Answers

Hello every1. My question is quite simple and I have searched for it for quite a while now.
I have a chinese 7" tablet with 800 x 480px resolution using 240dpi, ICS is in phone mode. Model: FreeLander PD10 Deluxe.
My question is, how can I force ICS to use tablet mode? I love the tablet statusbar, that is the only reason I want this.
Please can anyone help me with this?

You need to change its dpi to less tham 213 i think. If your rooted there are apps on the market to do it
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

you can search for a custom rom which supports tablet mode and/ or pm a dev for whom it would be easy to fix it

Changing dpi works, but also try to find if there is a PARANOID Android for yours tablet, I don't know if they are doing it for small tablets too. Else just change dpi. Look there. I think this app will work on every rooted device.

Okay so actually the solution was 120 dpi, half of the original one.
Unfortunately there is no custom ROM for this tablet and I do not know how to port roms
Could any1 help me with that?

128 is the limit for tablet UI, i also looking the same. The tablet is fine and speedy but takes minutes to boot.

Have you searched for parandroid rom in your device section...
I don't know it supports your device or not but if it, then your problem is solved...
Rom: CodeBox 1.4.0 Unofficial
Kernel: Horsepower 3.1 by fuss
If you like my post please hit thanks button...

Too bad but for my device, there is no Custom ROM yet.
this is my device: http://devdb.ru/freelander_pd10_deluxe
There is no custom rom yet, and even the CWM has been ported a few days ago, it's not a new device, but not much people have it. I would love to get some help with porting CM10 or Paranoid Android to it...

Hey mate I'm leaning to compile ROMs ...
I will make my first CM ROM for my SG s2 then I will definitely will look yours ...
ROM : CodeBox 1.8.5 Official
Kernel : Horsepower 3.1.0 - Fuss

I'm working on a custom rom....
But my usb conector is dead (my kid kick it), so the develepoment will be a little slow.
So far i have ported some of the xperia apps... (launcher, widgets, keyboard). works very nice even at 240 dpi.
Well my usb is broken, so i can't continue (until i manage to solder it). but the only missing part is systemui (the menu button don't show so i wan't ala nexus solution)
if i set qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 in build.prop. The button bar appears, but it's layout is not the standar android layout, with apktool i try to change the status bar and navigation panel with the aosp ones, but it crashed...
Maybe if someone can continue and port a standar system ui, (status bar on top, navigation on bottom), i will really apreciate it, to complete my work.

[Q] [ROM] Custom ROM - Samsung Galaxy 3.

It would be great, if somebody create a ROM for our Samsung Galaxy 3. I just got fed up of my stock ROM.

JXD S18 Mini Pad Questions

Just received my JXD S18 Mini Pad and was wondering what ROM I can install on it.
It's running Ice Cream Sandwhich, Version 4.0.4
This device is already rooted, so that is not neccesery.
Is it possible to install Cyanogen mod on this device?
Are there custom ICS 4.0.4 roms with less bloat?
If I install a custom ROM e.g. Cyanogen mod, will the tablet still be rooted??
heres mine

Hello, I'm quite new to android and
I was wondering if the skelrom for jxd s601would be compatible with my JXD S18 tablet version 01? Because I have been looking for a custom rom for my JXD S18, and sad to say that can't find any. I find using the S18 with the jxd provided firmware a hassle as the battery drains very fast. I'm looking for 3 or 3.5 hours (minimum) to 4-4.5 or even 5 hours (maximum). And since the S601 is very similar to the S18 in terms of specs, perhaps i can use this rom as a base for me to modify into something for the s18, or even use it directly on my s18. Any ideas? Thanks & Regards,
Is there a way to add a change apps button?
Hello.
Does anybody know a way to add the virtual button for overview / switch between apps and selecting which ones to close, so you release some RAM? I uploaded 3 images to show there's no overview button on the home screen.
I recently bought a S18 tablet from a small store in Bogotá and despite being so limited in functions, RAM and battery life it's not that useless, at least it's good to read some texts and listening to music (I just installed AIMP, which i consider as the best offline audio player for Android).

[REQ] How to make custom compatibility pack for CyanogenMod 10?

Hello!
I'm dealing with some branded tab KIANO BLADE CITY 2.
It has Alwinner A10 soc with 512 mb RAM and Mali-400 video.
So would like to install Unofficial CyanogenMod 10 from this thread, but I came to conclusions that I need my own compatibility pack first.
At this point I have fully working ROM with Android 4.0.3 for this tab
http://www.my-server.pl/kiano/cityII/soft/android4-BLADE-CITY2-ver2.img
As I have no previous experience with Linux or android I request some help with creating custom compatibility pack out of original rom.
Thanks.
To be sure. What does a compatibility pack mean to you?
I'd recomend posting this on the rom thread btw.

Compatibility pack is the one created for each device in that CyanogenMod 10 thread. It contains kernel modifications for each device. For ex. without it you can get not working wifi or touchscreen and so on.
I can't post myself anything in developer section because of newbie restrictions. If you don't mind, you can post it there for me.
Thanks.
I'd recommend helping out people like I did .
I don't own such a tab but if you want me to ask it just send the thing you want posted and the thread as a private message .

Did you ever get an answer on this? I am looking for a compatibility pack for my tablet.
Thank you!
Sorry, but no. I have too few reputation to post my request in the appropriate thread so I stuck...
But you have 8 posts already, so +2 and you good to make a request yourself.
I hope that guys in the original thread will be able to help, especially as we have working ROM, which can be used for making compatibility pack, as I presume.

Hi! I have good news!
I was able to "port" original drivers from my stock rom for CarbonRom 4.2.2 and for CM10!
Both roms have full support for touch, gsensor, camera and wifi (CarbonRom has wifi drop issue but it is common problem for all devices).
CM10 is slick and fast. About ~1 min boot time (faster than stock one), a lot of drivers for usb devices.
I have goodix_touch_811 touch driver and dmard06 gsensor if you are interested.

SOOO lost -total N00B

Hello everyone,
Ive spend the last hour or so trying to find a basic step by step for me here, but so far nothing I can understand- Please pardon my ignorance...
Ok-
I have a fully STOCK galaxy tab 2 7.0 Plus:
-GT-P6210 (US model)
-4.0.4
-Kernel: 3.0.15
-Build: IMM76D.UELPC
I would like to get 4.1-4.2 running on here, but ideally- 4.1/2 running a stock(nexus like) ROM. I am def. not a fan of Samsungs interface as time has gone by, but seem to favor the nexus's (unless there is better?) . I know I need to root the device, and I am fine with that, along with all the risks that go with this (I killed a atrix a few years ago).
So, if someone could direct me to the proper link(s), or if your willing to help me a little (we can work something out PP/BTC) Id greatly appreciate it!
I have the ability, just have 0 teacher to show me the way. From what I understand some of the ROMs available here are great, and id really like to learn. I am a hardware guy for a living, swimming in this world of software is daunting at times...
There is no such thing as a Google / Nexus style ROM for this device. there are variants of CM 10 but that is custom CM, not Nexus UI.
In fact there is no such thing as a pure Google version of Android for any device. Google does not supply the kernel and device drivers so Google Android from Google source runs on none, nada, zero, devices out of the box. Each hardware vendor takes the base Android and adds their own parts to the kernel, adds device drivers and in Samsungs case some additional UI and frame work features (Touchwiz).
The CM 10 JB variants work ok, but some hardware features like the IR blaster will not work on those since the HW is Samsung specific. A better experience if you don;t like the TW launcher might be to install the stock Samsung JB 4.1.2 ROM and then install one of the nice third party launchers on the market to get a different UI look. The launcher is really the major visible difference between Nexus UI and Samsung. Apex, Nova, and Holo are 3 launchers that work well.

Hello, and thank you for you reply!
That makes sense, regarding the Nexus/android ROM- again, please pardon my ignorance...
As for the IR blaster, i am not too concerned about loosing that function. I never really use it, and its never worked great anyway...
Id like to try a stock samsung 4.1/4.2 ROM, and try a 3rd party launcher, or even give the CM10 a go if the stock rom doesnt work. It is my understanding I will have to root the device before I can proceed anywhere. Is this a hard to do process, or pretty simple now a day (I would imagine)?
I again thank you for your help!

You can install JB without rooting , right over ICS. Using ODIN.
If you want to customize, Rooting is the starting point. Root and install a recovery module , CWMR or TWRP. Haven't had to install root in a few months, I'll have to look at the current threads to give you a recommendation on that.
One caution, install JB or install the custom recovery and root before you wipe anything on the ICS ROM . Samsung had a bug in the system wipe routine that can cause permanent damage to the memory. It is fixed in JB ROMs and also in the custom recovery software. Just be sure not to do a factory reset on ICS.
Here is a link to the Samsung JB 4.1.2 for P6210. Using ODIN you install this over your current Samsung ICS ROM. (NOTE: the only 4.1.2 P6210 Samsung release so far is a UK ROM and some people have reported Wifi issues due to this, but I run this one and have encountered no issues at all. )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2278740
This appears to be the latest instruction for rooting JB.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41800762&postcount=216
Once you perform the above, you can return to stock Samsung ICS later if you want, but that would most likely return you to factory stock and wipe your programs and settings, so be sure you know the consequences before you jump.

I have one final question for you, or anyone out there running this same JB/ODIN process...
Will this, and if so how much, bog the performance of the tab itself? I notice that the tab even with ICS tends to be a little "jerky" going from menu to menu, etc... Is this because of my hardware, or lack of the "project butter" being part of the OS? (I think that was part of JB?)
If I were to have the wifi issues, would I be able to flash back?
Other than that, i am ready to hit the "Go" button!

Why would this bog down the tablet?. JB is much smoother than ICS. That was one of Goggles goals in JB. However, some people expect PS4 like performance ..... ha...., all of these phones/tablets use cheap / low power processors. You get what you get, That being said, I am very happy with my P6210 on JB
You can always use ODIN to go back, but you will lose all your settings and installed apps when you do that.
The Wifi issues I have seen reported seem to be that some US Wifi channels do not show up. Not surprising, there are differences in the UK spectrum.

More just a thought about the S/W being much newer than the hardware. I most certainly do not expect superformance out the device, but more or less was making sure the hardware is up to the task. Would you rec. I do a backup of the system past the basic "app back n restore" app?

When you install the JB over the Samsung ICS, your settings and apps should be retained. For all brands and ROM, You can backup and restore apps with something like Titanium Backup if you are rooted, but you should not restore data between ICS and JB using most backup apps. the storage areas are different and doing so will cause bad things to happen.

Done n Done with success!
As you stated, everything held perfect and no issues on the wifi side of things. This OS really made a good difference on the tab as a whole, feels more complete.
I thank you again for all your help!!!!!!!!
What would be a reason to "root" this tablet other than being able to run custom ROMs and maybe be able to off load some bloatware? I feel like I am missing out on what is possible with android and really should get on the bandwagon.

For this tablet I don't feel that any of the current custom ROMs offer any advantages or features over the stock setup. I keep it rooted in case I want to drop in a custom startup screen or backup things. Other than that, there is really no good reason to root for the tablet.
Hopefully some of the developers will update to JB and add some of the Note 2 or S4 features soon though.

[Q] Need Help with any Compatible Custom Rom for Measy TV Box

Hi all,
I'm new to the XDA-Dev Forums... and i'm desperate :crying: .
I recently purchased a Measy B4K android TV-Box / Stick. I want to upgrade this to at least android 4.2.2 or 4.3 if possible as it came with 4.1.1, but I cant find any custom roms for this product anywhere. It's supposed to support up to 2160p output, but for some reason even if i set it to a 1080p display setting it still looks like its just upscalling from 720p. Would really like to get a true 1080p kernel on the device.
Is it possible to use a "Generic" 4.2.2 or 4.3 android build? I unfortunately don't have a lot of experience with custom rom builds or installations, but i really want to learn if ANYone can assist I would REALLY appreciate it so so much!
i know this an old thread but i'll answer anyway as we just found some intresting stuff & upgrade that helps a lot
also to be sure it's this a31 device we have and i'm guessing your talking about the same thing : http://www.measy.com.cn/product/showproduct75_en.htm
not a custom rom but we've gotten hold of a developpers 4.2.2 RC3 firmware for measy b4k. We had trouble getting installed but another person found a way to do it. You need phoenixcard 3.09 (http://www.freaktab.com/showthread....S918S-firmware&p=131526&viewfull=1#post131526)
this rom https://alimail.alibaba.com/alimail...eb961&[email protected]
burn the rom as product using phoenixcard, install terminal app, erase nanda then, insert phoenix burned sdcard in measy b4k box, reboot. because the boot is gone (nanda) it will try to boot from sd card and start the firmware upgrade the normal methods using the hidden reco button on the left did not seem to work. but this did, i did as well as someone else.
To give you an idea with original firmware that came with the device i had around 10000 - 11000 antutu score with this dev build firmware i have 19000 antutu score and everything feels a lot smoother & faster.
1st succes upgrade
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread....S918S-firmware&p=132832&viewfull=1#post132832
how to erase nanda on it
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread....S918S-firmware&p=132947&viewfull=1#post132947
do note if you fail at doing something but you erased nanda your device will not boot ! it's a bit risky but worked without a problem with me
Thanks for the info!
