Just upgraded to the latest version of Kies and I continue not being able to connect my GT-P6800 to Kies...it just hangs there "Connecting" forever
My Ace Duo connects fine...the 7.7?...Nothing...not in MTP or PTP USB/PC connection modes.
Utterly puzzled...

What OS are you running on computer? Check Device Manager. Installed Samsung USB drivers? Connecting directly to computer and not via a hub? Try a different USB cord. Some just won't work.

It's the one provided with the device. It used to work. It still does, as Windows recognizes the tab as an MTP device.
I've now left it a long, LONG time trying to connect. After several minutes I got a pop-up window with: "This device is not supported by Kies 2.0. Make sure that your device is supported and try again"
What the....!?!?!?

If you've installed a ROM from a different country, a custom ROM, or rooted your device, KIES will not recognize it. Actually, it is possible that KIES won't recognize the device if the binary counter is above zero (or, if you've ever installed anything through Odin).

I did install the Austrian P6800XXLQ2 P6800OXALQ2 firmware with Odin and have also rooted the device.
Rooting must not be the cause, since Kies connected fine with stock HC and the device already rooted.
What's the "binary counter"?
Is there any way around this? I would like to have Kies centralizing my contacts and backups.

Well, I downloaded a zip file named "P6800XXLQ2_P6800OXALQ2_ATO". It uncompressed into "P6800OXALQ2_P6800XXLQ2_HOME.tar" and "SS_DL.dll".
I installed using Odin. I can only believe the CSC is the ATO one.
How do I check this?

Binary Counter is Samsung's internal method of tracking how many times a ROM (or other alteration I believe) was made to the device. Some say a method of tracking for warranty purposes. Chainfire has an app (TriangleAway) that resets the binary counter on Google Play but unsure if it is supported for the 7.7. Have it on my 10.1 Note.

Please, tell me how to change the CSC?!
I've been trying it for a long time without success... I flashed the ATO ROM (P6800XXLQ2) to my Hong Kong vendor code device. But this ROM doesn't contain special CSC folder, so, I couldn't change it with the dedicated CSC Change app. I even thought that I should go back to honeycomb and change the code on that ROM but I didn't find a proper ATO ROM among the HC ones on Samfirmware. So, what to do?

Thought: I love Android because of the versatility and the superior support given by a knowledgeable, generous community of developers.
...but I am starting to wonder if the efficiency of those developers coupled with the said versatility isn't resulting in such a gargantuan number of combinations that they are actually killing any chance of effective support, as our own incarnation of Android is always slightly but irremediably different from the next one.

No.
I asked for help regarding Kies not being able to recognize my 7.7 on another thread on the same subject...funnily enough, one where the OP specifically asked for a solution and that was (...and still is...) filled under "Galaxy Tab 7.7 General" without being subject to this aggressive moderating zeal...go figure...
This thread of mine merely stated the fact (not question) that it still does not connect under the newest Kies incarnation.
Although generous posters advanced with possible solutions, that was not the intent.
The reason I prefer international forums to Portuguese ones is because my countrymen have a tendency to turn into little arrogant dictators when the slightest modicum of power is entrusted to them (...especially under the cover of anonymity...)

Ok so I just got back from writing an exam and will try to reinstall Kies. I tried 2 times to update through my computer this morning and once on my wife's PC (She has a Captivate as well)
All 3 attempts it says that Its downloaded the update but then it fails when it tries to install. Now remember I've not rooted or anything, so i think that there might be a newer version of kies or something...going to look now.
But anyways it tries to update it says a bunch of stuff like: You phone Jsomething1 and the update is supposed to be Jsomething2...I dont get it.
Remember I dont hack or mod phones in the slightest, so I have no clue what this J1 (mine) and the update of j2 is...?
The update is big though, takes a few minutes to download and I have a 16mps download speed...
Downloading this version of Kies and will try again:

No, not recovery mode.
PC runs W7-32 for what it's worth.
In the meantime, I did some research on the error I mentioned above.
It appears it's a very common issue with KIES.
There are a few workarounds.
So far, I tried the "SIM-out" method and it doesn't work for me.
Next, I'm trying the regedit method.
Will report on results.

Nowhere you have to check Kies server to know it's been released. There is still no confirmation from Rogers last i checked.

Hello. Suppose I have a brand new Samsung Galaxy Ace running stock ROM Android 2.3.4 and want to upgrade to 2.3.5 or later version.
1. Is it safer to use KIES or Odin?
2. OTA means over the air, correct?
3. Is using KIES considered an "OTA update"?
4. If there IS a 2.3.5 or later for Galaxy Ace, is it OFFICIAL? Is it stable?
5. In this link, http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-S5830&r=2#regiona
It's for Singapore (Singtel), can I use that even if I don't live in Singapore?

Do NOT use it (Do not ever use a rom for a different country/carrier you are not in/on - Unless you know exactly what you are doing and why you are doing it).
ODIN is better, but there is the possibilty to brick the phone if something doesn't work. But updating with ODIN make you lose the warranty of the phone.
Thanks guys. How do I know if there's already a firmware update for my country? Do I always have to look in sammobile.com? Or do I just plug my phone in my laptop and open Kies and it would automatically detect if there's a firmware update available?
Thanks!

Why not do a factory reset and go from there. If that does not get you to where you want to go, give Samsung support a call.
Keep us posted on what ou find out.

iUnfortunately I can do neither soft nor hard reset.
Due to the failed attempt to install the wrong firmware the tablet does no longer boot.
And nothing happens when I try to access the recovery menu by pressing volume up and the power button.
But even if I was able to reset the device, this would not bring me closer to my ultimate goal of installing ICS on it.
Is there no firmware of another model similar enough to be flashed safely on this model?
Samsung Support would be my last shot.

You'd probably have to as garyd9 or another dev to give ClockWork Recovery support to your model number, install that, make a backup, then you can ask to have your model number added to the what they support in this thread

While I personally think that CyanogenMod is great, it is no option in this case.
I need a stock rom.
Samsung gave us this device in order to test our apps on it.
Seems that it is some pre-release device or a device that never will be released.
I guess I will have to get in touch with Samsung support.
Update: The first Samsung Service Center rejected the device, stating that they do not handle unofficial devices.
At the second however (halfway across the city) they told me that they would have a look at it. The technician there said that the IMEI number printed on this device did not even exist.

Looking to root and install a custom rom/kernel. I have came across many different ways of rooting and flashing roms, and I was looking for the least dangerous way to root and flash ClockWorkMod and CM10.1. I also was looking for a way to flash back to a "stock version" that is compatible with my warranty, because I don't want the $50 that I spent on the "2-year extended warranty" to be a waste. I have only ever rooted one device before(Boost Mobile's Samsung Galaxy Prevail), I have CWM and CM7 on it. I also read that the IR functionality of the P3113 is not working on CM10.1, is that the only feature that isn't working? I un-installed Kies from my Win7 PC because it wouldn't connect with my P3113 and i kept getting "Hardware ID Missing" errors. When I un-installed Kies it also un-installed my USB drivers. I re-installed them and now the P3113 shows up as a "portable media device" in Windows Explorer. Is that connection sufficient enough for Odin to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :good:

That's what you'll see from a normal boot. You'll have to boot into download mode for ODIN to work. There's no reason the drivers with Kies wouldn't work, however. Note that there's a checkbox when you uninstall Kies to leave the drivers installed. That's what you should have done.

Vancouver, Canada. I'm getting the same thing. Came from Galaxy Note 1, was told my Kies didn't support this device (note 3) and I needed to download Kies 3. Then I get that message you quoted.
So kies 2.6 doesn't work with Note 3 at all? I tried and couldn't get it working. Kies 3 works, but it seems to be missing the podcast options. It's the only reason I'd like to use Kies since downloading podcasts on my phone uses up a lot of data.
