AT&T Throttling Former Unl., Now 5gig Plans, At 3gig. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

So I've been having some speed issues lately and decided to call AT&T because, as a grandfathered Unlimited Data user, when they got rid of the plan, I, like any other users, got put on a 5gig data program, with unlimited, yet throttles data, above 5G.
Well, long story short, I just got disconnected with AT&T and during a reboot, they called back and left message stating they throttle at 3gig.
This is news to me. Is this how it is, as I was under the impression it was after 5gigs that we get throttled.

Few additional points.
1. The title should've been less "matter-of-fact" and perhaps, asked in the form of a question by now I'm in the General forum. Don't know if a mod can love this.
2. Back on the line with AT&T and this rep is stating what I thought - 5GB, then throttle above 5GB.
3. Website states the same.
4. Now the lady on the phone is also agreeing, they throttle at 3GB and is stating they haven't updated the website to reflect the new policy. I have immediately asked for the next level of support. I will try to keep everyone up to date.

Got second tier support who verified it's a 5GB cap with throttling afterwards. Which means either there's a network issues in my area or once again, iphone has broken AT&T in Philadelphia like they did when they first came out. Lol.
But just as a note, if you have speed issues and call in, be prepared for to be told something different from what is on their website and be prepared to challenge them on it.

If you're on LTE they throttle at 5 gigs.
If you're on 3G they throttle at 3 gigs.

Suckness if true
I'm no longer under contract, but I'll ride the unlimited data for the time being.
FML .
The question I have, though, is if using a non-AT&T radio could stop the ability to be throttled. Anyone care to chime in?
The throttling isn't done on the device, it's done on their end.
EDIT: ATT FTL if this is true.

I don't discount your having worked for them and what you experienced, but if I have it in writing, it ain't happenin to me.
It's all a money grab.
Combine cellular data limits and AT&T's home DSL data limits along with Netflix (and every other provider) trying to force us into using streaming media and VoIP, and we get screwed.

The top 5% feel the pain it looks like. I suppose if you are using 10+ gigs a month I am not sure I feel for ya. Personally I have never gone over 5 but I also have internet service at Home.
Here come the "I pay for unlimited" posts.
If it doesn't affect me I don't care. I use maybe 3 gigs a month..
If it adversely affects me then It will give me reasons to look else where when I get to re-up again.
Anyone know if this is enough of a change to the plan you signed up for to allow canceling the account?

I read on a post yesterday (can't find it now) that the expected threshold for throttling will be somewhere in the vicinity of 50gb a month. In my mind, reasonable.

they throttle the top 5% on unlimited plans. spoke to a rep yesterday. although your usage to me does not look like a 5%'er
My average usage is 2.5 to 3.8 according to the rep I spoke to. He is also curious why I got flagged. He said he will look into it and call me back.

Really??? I get a good 1-1.5 mbps continuous on 3g on my phone and computer when I use the hotspot. I font have 4g in my area to test that though. But when sprint launches their 4g lte in 2013 I will have it hopefully still unlimited too.

Yeah I was super dissapointed they did wimax and not lte.
Realize our 3g speeds are typically 1.5-5 , I have hit 12
When one gets throttled and can accomplish the apn trick...they are hitting 1.5-5 ...throttled
In my case here in Dallas i would get about 400kbps dload in most areas, which is why I left Sprint. Its different from area to area tho.

I Showed my phone to a friend that still has sprint and he was amazed at how fast thing were loading especially YouTube videos and I wasn't even on At&t lte. Unlimited Verizon Data plan anyone???

I hope that I'm not out of line posting this in the "general" forum. But I am getting ready to leave verizon so i can get the nexus 4 (and save a little cash on the monthly bills) and I really hate to see these two unlimited data plans i worked so hard to take advantage of and keep for so long just go to waste. Ive still got a little over a year left on the current plan and it has two lines on it, both have the unlimited 29.99 4g data added to them. I would feel silly just letting them go to waste if someone would be interested in assuming the remainder of the contract term. PM me if you happen to be interested. If i'm out of line in posting this then feel free to delete it with my apologies in mind. Also, I havent looked into separating the Lines yet in you only want one but I can investigate the possiblilty if you only need one...
Also go to androidcentral and androidforums. Plenty of people looking for unlimited data

Why would we get flagged? We have unlimited data. We chose not to buy a phone subsidized by Verizon so that we can keep unlimited data.
I am the IT guy for a church and school and I've upgraded 10 users to 4G phones through eBay and Craigslist. One of our staff members uses 40GB a month, I use about 15 GB. All of us go well over 2 GB, but what does it matter? We have unlimited data!
It would stand to reason that AT&T users with grandfathered unlimited plans are more abundant than us since they can still upgrade through AT&T and keep unlimited data.
I don't see why anyone would get flagged. The number of unlimited data VZW users will only decrease over time. Verizon makes more money than anyone. They add towers practically every week.
I say, sit back, and soak up the data!

im with you... I've tried everything imaginable... at least when verizon had unlimited, it was truly unlimited. I'll never forget a couple years ago when 3G/LTE went down in the Savanahh, GA area when I was stationed at Fort Stewart, I called Verizon and said "Im not getting data, do you throttle services?" Rep said "We shouldn't unless you're in the top 5% of subscribers, let me check your account"... clickety click click click of the keyboard "...oh my. I have to say, that is the highest useage I've ever personally seen. You're at 33 GB of LTE used.". I was only 12 days into my billing period at the time
There is a company called telcel America I used them for 4 months they had unlimited service for 45 a month no throttling whatsoever to the best of my knowledge they ran on on tmobiles network I used 5 gig a month 10 MBS down 2 up 2 weeks ago they stopped but they still have the $60 plan that you get unlimited talking to mexico I think sorry do the badly written post in a rush will update later

That's what I like about the $30 Monthly4G plan, I haven't hit the 5gb soft cap yet. And vonage mobile works great for extra free minutes.
I used to have the T-Mobile Unlimited 3G plan when I had a BlackBerry, and I would regularly break 20-30GB data on it when I was still going to school and still be able to maintain 3G speeds.
When I upgraded to the Blaze I was forced to switch to their new "Unlimited" plan, which seems to choke the speeds down around 5-6GB. Although this month I'm already around 7GB and I still pull in decent H+ speeds between 8 and 12Mbps, so maybe they only restrict the speeds during peak hours or something.
I have been doing research(ugh. feels like school lol) and I stumbled upon this. Since I've been using the UVMC Radio from the Hercules I think this should work. Note. It says to do these methods before getting throttled. I don't know if it works because I am getting throttled already..
