[Q] New to the S3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Whats going on people!???
I use to be up here all the time rooting every Android device I have owned and recently last year I went and switched over to Apple. Very pleased with their products I still decided I wanted to try an S3 out so I just got my hands on a Verizon S3 and wanted to root up and put a custom ROM on it, my main concern is the battery life on this rascal and I really want a ROM with great battery life.
What thread or video have you guys followed to root your device because I see a few diffrent videos on Youtube but I see that the rooting process is different for different carriers rooting. Any help would be greatly appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction in trying to root my S3.
Thanks!

Yeah I have it rooted now but when I try to flash a ROM it keeps giving me an error saying
E: Failed to verify whole signature?
I looked it up and I see that they say you need to dowload a new or different recovery but where do I get another one from?

Download the E-Z recovery app from the play store. It is helpful for flashing a new recovery like clockwork recovery or twrp.

As far as battery life goes...

That is stock non rooted.this is the first phone I've had that I had no reason to root.
With that battery life keep in mind that at my kids party I snapped off about 300 pics and 5 2-5 minute videos

Unable to boot into Clockwork Recovery on Nexus S

Hi all,
You may need to bare with me a little with all of this, I'm extremely new to it all.
I picked up my Nexus S on Monday after previously owning an iPhone and then a Windows Phone 7 handset, firstly I have to say that I can't believe I didn't get an Android phone sooner - they're leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in my opinion and offer a much better!
With the help of a set of instructions I was able to unlock the bootloader and flash the recovery to use Clockwork 3.0.0.5, from there I was able to install Superuser from the ZIP to root the device.
Everything is working and rooted but whenever I try and get into the Clockwork recovery it keeps chucking me into the standard recovery, I've tried from the bootloader and from ROM manager.
The problem I have is that I can't backup my ROM because it just takes me to the standard recovery and sits there.
I had a look around but couldn't find anything relating to this on the forum.
There was mention of something called 'sgs kernel flasher' but it states it wont run on Gingerbread which I'm running.
Any ideas?
If you have any questions of something I may have missed out I can answer those!
Sosmething very similar to me recently. I just reflashed the clockwork recovery via adb/fastboot and works like a champ now.

Thanks for the help guys, as I said I'm quite new to all this so sadly the thread title:
"Q about cwm 3.0+ and 2.3.2"
Didn't quite stick out to me!
Problem sorted now though, all backed up and new ROM installed - happy days!

Mobile Odin Pro firmware flasher

As per OP, Mobile ODIN is the on-device firmware flasher of choice. Just throw those firmware files on your (internal or external) SD card, start Mobile ODIN and flash away.

Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has been showed in supported device. I would like to have comments of our senior developers/members before trying that.
As stated before, does not work on the Infuse.
Some one has posted comment on Google Play Store and i thought v1.30 is working on Samsung Infuse. lol

Re: Infuse 4G
I need a CF-Root-based kernel with CWM that can mount both RFS as well as EXT4 partitions. The CWM does not need to actually mount them, but the kernel needs to be ABLE to. Big difference.
I dont know much about technical stuff what does it means (will it work or not )
First post in attachment says that it didn't work.
I bought it and when I ran it, it said that it was not compatible. Grabbed a refund right away.

[Q] Is this wise?

Hi everyone, I have a Samsung Galaxy S WIFI 5.0 and when trying to put an apk into the system/apps folder I accidently the apps folder out of the system folder and now it dosn't start. It runs through the boot animation but then displays a black screen playing the force close vibration pattern. But it boots into recovery and download mode fine so I may as well try a factory reset. So I did and still the same. So now all I can do is flash a ROM. And the one that I want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689310
Cannot be flashed by Odin but only CMW. So now I have to flash a new kernel to get CMW, This one:
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-player-5-0-s-wi-fi-rj-custom-kernel-overclock-84994/
But is it wise to do this in the state my device is in? And also I don't have usb debugging enabled.
Can You help?
I dont have hardly any experience but from a general from a general idea/thought, why dont you flash the latest official rootable firmware from Samsung, thus succesfully rooting it, install CWM recovery, from there install the rom you were talking about

I know that is the sensible idea but i'm not a one for flashing roms or kernels as I get worried about bricking and I would prefer to do it all at once.

Buut yeah, factory resetting only wipes the /data & the /cache partition, if you don't have stuff in the /system partition it won't start.
Just go to your device's forum, follow the procedure and your phone will be running like butter again ^^
Its almost impossible to hardbrick a Samsung phone ;-)

I feel really silly asking this question cause i'm new to all this you see but what procedure?
Dosn't matter now. Fixed it by installing a different ROM

Yeah, I having this same exact issue. It's driving me nut because all I want is my stock s7 back :crying:
So after three days of constant research, I have come to the conclusion that I'm slow. This entire time I was trying to flash unroot a phone with links to firmware from forum post made four months ago. Im pretty sure we can see the problem in that. So long story short I found this beautiful website with (great) download speeds called sammobile, from there I was able to find the latest firmware that led me to bring my beautiful phone back to stock goodness! So in my concluding statement I have to thank you xda for actually making me learn something.
I can't put a link but for you sfear2ugf just go to sammobile and look up G930T in the searchbar and use the latest kernel.

[Req] CPL2 Update

I have been trying for days to download the new update.
I've tried kies, smart connect, dismissing through sammobile (I do have a sammobile account) and it just never completes or tells me user not logged in, when I'm clearly logged in. Would sanguine be willing to capture it from you cache partition and upload it for me? It would be greatly appreciated, just want the boot loader and modern more than anything.

Thank you sir. I have been banging my head against a wall trying to get it. It wouldn't even Download via ota on a completely stock TW rom. Your a life saver. Have you noticed anything better about the update? Battery life, signal strength, dependibility or speed?

So I was able to flash the newest firmware via ODIN and got CPL2 on my phone after two tries (the first flash would not get past the Sprint logo for boot). I then as previously stated else ware was able to perform 3 more updates bringing my firmware up to CQB3.
However, once I got to that step my phone would not root using CF Auto root as before.
I tried it a couple of times and RootChecker confirmed that something was still missing.
Not a big deal as I got TWRP back on the recovery and was able to restore my RR ROM from before.
Just thought I would give people a heads up.
