Unable to boot into Clockwork Recovery on Nexus S - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
You may need to bare with me a little with all of this, I'm extremely new to it all.
I picked up my Nexus S on Monday after previously owning an iPhone and then a Windows Phone 7 handset, firstly I have to say that I can't believe I didn't get an Android phone sooner - they're leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in my opinion and offer a much better!
With the help of a set of instructions I was able to unlock the bootloader and flash the recovery to use Clockwork 3.0.0.5, from there I was able to install Superuser from the ZIP to root the device.
Everything is working and rooted but whenever I try and get into the Clockwork recovery it keeps chucking me into the standard recovery, I've tried from the bootloader and from ROM manager.
The problem I have is that I can't backup my ROM because it just takes me to the standard recovery and sits there.
I had a look around but couldn't find anything relating to this on the forum.
There was mention of something called 'sgs kernel flasher' but it states it wont run on Gingerbread which I'm running.
Any ideas?
If you have any questions of something I may have missed out I can answer those!

Sosmething very similar to me recently. I just reflashed the clockwork recovery via adb/fastboot and works like a champ now.

Thanks for the help guys, as I said I'm quite new to all this so sadly the thread title:
"Q about cwm 3.0+ and 2.3.2"
Didn't quite stick out to me!
Problem sorted now though, all backed up and new ROM installed - happy days!

HELP ! What after rooting???

Hello,
I have rooted my HTC Tattoo using universalAND root app. I want to know what can i do after rooting it?? and also if i want to install froyo 2.1 on it how do i do it ?
also will it work on my tattoo ?
Just search for Android Froyo 2.1 in Android Market and push the Update Button....
Wtf search the forums if you know nothing!
Yeah dude he's right do some research.. its not that hard.
I'l give you a quick list of what you can do:
Apps2SD (store apps on SD card)
CPU Overclocking (self explanatory0
FLASH A CUSTOM ROM (I highly recommend that is what you search for first)
Wireless Tethering (share internet connection with your PC)
And lots, lots more...
Your first point of research should most definitely be Flashing a Custom Rom.
But seriously how hard is it to just search google?
@ xtcislove : sorry for being so lazy...actually i was searching for things before posting this..but got really confused half way. thanks for your advice.
@ Android001 : thank you for the starting points..will get to it soon.
no problem..
you do realise he was joking about the market and update thing, you cant do that
yes... well i managed to root my tattoo with universaland root. installed titanium backup. its asking for busybox. when i try to do adb i keep getting an error. i searched the forums for an answer, but they r not helping. m attaching an image if u can just go through it and let me know what can de done..it will be gr8.

I cant see any picture?
I don't know much about the Tattoo because i use a Hero..
For BusyBox i know that it comes built in with most Custom Roms, I know for a fact that it comes with all Villain and Cyanogen Roms.
I think there is an application on the market that I have seen before that attempts to install BusyBox.. but that isn't guaranteed to work.
Does it not just install when Titanium Backup gives you the option to?
And why don't you just flash a Rom then you wont have all this trouble.
Okay a little bit i tell you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=544
Here you should have a look first.
1. Install a Recovery Image
2. Install a Custom ROM
3. Modify your Phone personally but carefully! Do not so much at the system and do not download things of other Phone Section´s!

[Q] Trouble upgrading to Gingerbread

I'm getting an error when I try and ugprade my Android version. I'll start with the history and spec first:
Google Nexus One, bought in April 2010, it had Eclair (2.1) on it. I wanted Froyo 2.2 (for the hotspot/tethering) but the update delays being what they were I ended up rooting it, getting clockworkmod, and installing CyanogenMod 6 (based on 2.2). It's been the same ever since and I've been happy with it. It's only because a month or two ago it stopped being able to update any of the apps that I'm even wanting to upgrade, otherwise I'd be happy with CM6. I can no longer update or even search for apps. If I can't go back to plain Android because I've gone CyanogenMod, that's fine, I'll just go for a newer version of it.
I'm not wanting to live on the bleeding edge with ICS4 on this old-timer (yes I've heard it runs but with bugs), so if I can, I'll go for a plain vanilla Gingerbread 2.3.3.
I downloaded 2.3.3 from here and renamed it update.zip and put it in the root of my SD card. I shut the phone down and then followed the instructions I found here.
It seemed like it would be easy, but I'm getting this error after choosing "Apply sdcard: update.zip". After the error I show two screenshots of how I got to that point.

For anyone with the same issue, you could have posted the solution here.Dont promote other sites.
I think the problem was with the file.
Sometimes the browsers get bugged and they dont download the whole package.
I have had this error a couple of times and re-downloading the rom fixed the solution.

[Q] Is this wise?

Hi everyone, I have a Samsung Galaxy S WIFI 5.0 and when trying to put an apk into the system/apps folder I accidently the apps folder out of the system folder and now it dosn't start. It runs through the boot animation but then displays a black screen playing the force close vibration pattern. But it boots into recovery and download mode fine so I may as well try a factory reset. So I did and still the same. So now all I can do is flash a ROM. And the one that I want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689310
Cannot be flashed by Odin but only CMW. So now I have to flash a new kernel to get CMW, This one:
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-player-5-0-s-wi-fi-rj-custom-kernel-overclock-84994/
But is it wise to do this in the state my device is in? And also I don't have usb debugging enabled.
Can You help?
I dont have hardly any experience but from a general from a general idea/thought, why dont you flash the latest official rootable firmware from Samsung, thus succesfully rooting it, install CWM recovery, from there install the rom you were talking about

I know that is the sensible idea but i'm not a one for flashing roms or kernels as I get worried about bricking and I would prefer to do it all at once.

Buut yeah, factory resetting only wipes the /data & the /cache partition, if you don't have stuff in the /system partition it won't start.
Just go to your device's forum, follow the procedure and your phone will be running like butter again ^^
Its almost impossible to hardbrick a Samsung phone ;-)

I feel really silly asking this question cause i'm new to all this you see but what procedure?
Dosn't matter now. Fixed it by installing a different ROM

[Q] New to the S3

Whats going on people!???
I use to be up here all the time rooting every Android device I have owned and recently last year I went and switched over to Apple. Very pleased with their products I still decided I wanted to try an S3 out so I just got my hands on a Verizon S3 and wanted to root up and put a custom ROM on it, my main concern is the battery life on this rascal and I really want a ROM with great battery life.
What thread or video have you guys followed to root your device because I see a few diffrent videos on Youtube but I see that the rooting process is different for different carriers rooting. Any help would be greatly appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction in trying to root my S3.
Thanks!

Yeah I have it rooted now but when I try to flash a ROM it keeps giving me an error saying
E: Failed to verify whole signature?
I looked it up and I see that they say you need to dowload a new or different recovery but where do I get another one from?

Download the E-Z recovery app from the play store. It is helpful for flashing a new recovery like clockwork recovery or twrp.
As far as battery life goes...

That is stock non rooted.this is the first phone I've had that I had no reason to root.
With that battery life keep in mind that at my kids party I snapped off about 300 pics and 5 2-5 minute videos

Question Help returning T Mobile Oneplus 9 to out of box settings

Hello all.
I have a Oneplus 9 T Mobile variant that my son and his friend tried to install a Global Rom and I would like to return it back to stock. Problem is they lost track of what they did and now I do not know which way to go. I've read many threads and tried to educate my old ass before reaching out to you all. I used to be tech savvy but have been out of the game for far too long to remember most of the tricks. I would really appreciate it if someone can patiently guide me. I like to thank you in advance.
What I got out of them is they used THIS thread as a guide and magisk to root. They never backed up the stock rom and may have only flashed Slot_a. They uninstalled root to see if that helped. The phone works but can't update due to the unlocked bootloader that is greyed out. This is some info

Find the msm tool for your variant. It's here. Hold all 3 buttons, vol+& vol - plus power . This reboots edl and allows you to start msm tool. It restores to factory condition and locks the bootloader. Google msm tool for op9 to find out how to use properly.

And btw the device will update properly with just the bl unlocked. It's when you get into rooting and patching partitions that Google -ota runs a checksum on the partitions ,detects tampered and update fails. Enjoy your device
