As the title says i am quite new to android world and in particular with Asus.
I have understood the tutorials of how to root my device and how to unlock it, but no matter how hard i have
read the thread about nVFlash i still can't get it how to do it.
Is any of you guys willing to tell me what to do in simple steps in order to have an nVFlash backup?
I know the All-in-one guide thread, there it was where i found about the nVFlash but no luck in understanding what to do in simple steps.:crying:
Could you please help me out by giving me a How-to for newbies?
Thank you all for you time,
This is a video for the Transformer Prime, but the steps are very similar. At the very least, it may clear up a few points and help you follow along with the official TF700 guide a little easier.

Pretty scared on my end. This seems like the most informative video. I've read through some threads but I'm not too well versed on all the different things involved in rooting/unlocking this guy. First step is to download the ADB Tool V3 so I can push the unlock tool onto my device. Is this the right way to start the process? Thanks in advance!

If you want to unlock, you need to go Asus website and download the Asus unlock tool v7. You need to intall it on your tab and click to open the app. It will walk you through the whole press. It is very easy and simple. That was how I unlocked my device.. . I am very sure there are different ways to unlock but using Asus app is probably the safer way.. :fingers-crossed: Good luck.

That video is way outdated. Do not follow it.
The only way to unlock is using the Asus unlock tool.

Thanks! I will redirect my reading towards that link. Thread is packed with info that I need woot woot!
Just two more questions sorry.
1) What is the order I need to follow? Follow the root process THEN do the unlock process on that thread? I've read through 10 pages and there is nothing to specify that.
2) Planning to install Cromi. After successful root and unlock, do I need to upgrade to the bootloader necessary from what I understand then flash the rom?
* this one on the Cromi thread: 10.6.1.14.8 US Bootloader and TWRP 2.5.0.0 DOWNLOAD 2
I apologize if this should be common knowledge but I just want to make sure. Thank you for your time!

The main issue you have is you need to get twrp onto your device. To do this you must unlock, rooting will not help.
Once unlocked you could root, then use goo manager from the store to flash twrp and then follow the thread you linked or you could flash twrp over fastboot as also detailed there. I also updated an automated twrp recovery installer from a PC in that thread as well.

Sorry if i have posted in the wrong area.
I have
Device: Samsung-SGH-i957
Android: 4.0.4
Kernel version 3.0.8-1167230
I used Odin 1.83 (I believe cant remember the exact version but those of you familiar with the process will know immediately what i used) to try and root my device. Now goggled several different tutorials on how to do this. Downloaded all the Samsung device drivers. Odin and Kernel and went step by step. Now according to all the tutorials and my experience. I was successful in rooting the device. Everything works as instructed. BUT after installing Superuser, Root Checker, and Terminal Emulator, then trying to change boot screen animations, my device and above said applications have informed me that I do NOT in fact have a rooted device or permissions to access any of the root folders. Now I am all about full customization of my device. In fact that is the real reason I am trying to root it i just want to be able to do what i want on it. Ithe Samsung-SGH-i957 is a little old but I believe it is a good place to start to learn about rooted andorid device and how to work them. I believe the direction I really want to be taking is to just install a custom ROM from scratch there for not even having to worry about trying to root it. If this is indeed the direction those of you out there believe i should take i would appriciate feed back. If not and just rooting what i have is the best approach to full customization let me know. Either way I am good at following directions. Now finding good ones or perhaps googling the right key words to find good directions I am not so good at. So please suggestion on end game actions and pointers to good instructions.

Oh ... it's up to you. Only you know what you want to do with your device.
Here is the specific forum for your device on xda: Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.
If you have questions about your device, please post in the Galaxy Tab 8.9 General (as there is no dedicated Q&A forum for your device).
And here you will fnd latest (ROM, kernel, recovery, etc.) development for your device: Galaxy Tab 8.9 SGH-i957 Android Development.
Take some time to read through those threads.
And always create a complete system backup (nandroid backup in custom recovery) before flashing anything. So in case something goes wrong, you can go back by restoring the last backup.
Thread closed and thank you.
I have an HTC droid incredible 4glte and i'm interested in rooting it and/or installing cyanogen on it, since it's already past its warranty. i've done a fair amount of reading about rooting and whatnot on this site and others, but i don't feel i know enough to get started w/o bricking my device or loosing data that i want to keep.
I have no software downloaded on my computer pertaining to my phone, and i've not actually done anything to my phone either: everything is stock.
is there a list of instructions somewhere that can guide me step by step (or more accurately, click by click... i really don't want to screw up my phone, especially since i'm not sure i'd know how to fix it) through rooting my phone beginning to end?
also, is there somewhere/someone who can answer these questions:
1. do i have to have a custom recovery if i'm rooting/flashing a new ROM?
2. what does the stock recovery do that's different from a custom one?
3. most importantly, can i root my phone and keep the stock OS/other stuff?
a million thanks to anyone who can answer these questions!
Hello,
Well I am giving you a link to an "index" thread. What it contains are links and guides to anything you need for that device. You will be required to do some reading and research on your own. Xda assist is for helping you find your way.
Look here
Good luck

i doubt you will find any general rooting guides. reason being, there are countless roots for different devices, and each has its own way to install.
roms are pretty straight forward, every one i have ever used is flashed in recovery, which is not much more than clicking a few buttons once you have a recovery installed.
your best option to learn would be to go to your phones forum and read any threads in development titled root and recovery (likely titled "twrp" "cwm" or "phils")
before trying any of that, you will want to learn thoroughly how to return to stock. those threads are usually in the general forum of your phone. it is really important to learn how to fix your phone before installing any mods, then you wont be so frantic when you break it, and dont know how to fix it.
Thank you and I assume the same applies for tablets right ?
Its difficult finding a thread specific to my tablet reason being its not a branded tablet .

yes
it really doesnt matter what the device is. you can only use roots, recoveries and roms that support your device, and have to follow the instructions contained with them.
I tried everything to root my SM-N30F UD. I'm very new to rooting and it all seems extremely complex. Every tutorial I followed wasn't nearly specific enough and left out vital details. In light of all this, my device seems useless. I've tried whey root process imaginable. I just want my phone to be functional again if at all possible. I tried to restore it with Odin, but it keeps failing. I'm lost.
Can anyone give me a VERY DETAILED step by step (How To) walkthrough including the superfluous details that most people probably wouldn't need?
Thanks in advance.
