Hello Together,
it's quite confusing and also disturbing to read about Bugreports in the different Rom threads because sometimes it is not clear, if it is a rom specific Bug or a "CM base Bug".
So I will now start this Thread to collect the Bugs that are CM-Port related and not ROM related in the big hope it will help the devs to find the source of a bug.
Please only Report a Bug here, that happens on more than one different ROM, so we can see it as CM9 related.
Also please only Report Bugs with "clean" installations, so no "I have Ivendor RC4 with CastegnaIT 6.6 Kernel" because there is no way to find out, if this Bug comes from Ivendor CM9 or the customized Kernel.
Also don't repeat Bugreports "Please no +1 Posts" to keep it clear.
I Will Update Firstpost with Bugs and Solutions frequently.
For now, I observed the following Bugs in every CM9 based ROM (ivendor and acro68 Versions and customized version of that):
Bug: "Blank Screen Screen" Bug
Description: The Screen stays clear when opening an Application, no content is visible, also the scroller shows the correct size of area, so it seems as if the content is rendered but not visible
Affected Application : Every Browser (Stock and custom like Boat Browser) and eMail (Stock), different Reader like Google Reader and Facebook. Seems as if every App with a Scrollview is affected (maybe a bug in Scrollview code itself ?)
Workaround : Kill app with taskmanager (also remove from cache) and then restart
Also it seem, that current Version of Maildroid(Pro) is not affected from this Bug, so it's a workaround. Also Mail Sync for Exchange seems to be quite more battery friendly.
Update:
User "kaarl" maybe found reason for the bug: click me and further click
Bug: Wake freeze/slowdown
Description: After phone wakes up (by using powerbutton or by events like alarm or phonecall) it sometimes seems, as if it CPU isn't able to go over Min frequency. The phone don't really responds to touchscreen or buttons, screen mostly stay's dimmed
Workaround : Waiting up to 2min or pull battery out , wait 5 sec. put battery back in restart
Bug: Battery voltage reading seems to be corrupted.
Description : There are readings from 3mV up to 3V, depending on used App (AndroSensor shows 3V at 90% battery what seems a bit way off)
Bug: Faceunlock don't work
Regarding Battery drain with different signals (tested with acro's Beta Build 2 with IMAP all 15min and Whatsapp installed):
3G : 1,5-2,5% / h
WLan : 2,5-4% / h (AVM Fritzbox as WLan Router)
2G : <1%/h !
This values are nearly same numbers as BOKQ6 so there seems no longer an issue with battery !
I found, that exspecialy 3G drain is very much affected by signal strength. In my office I have quite good signal strength and have a drain @3G by around 1,5-2%/h. At home the 3G signal is very poor, it often swaps to 2G, there I have a drain like 7-10%/hour.
On the other side, I have the feeling, that with acro's current Build(Beta Build 2) I have a slightly better 3G signal then with BOKQ6 (GB-Rom) when signal is low. Maybe there is some output limitatation for radio antenna in GB Roms that our ICS Roms don't have ?
Battery voltage bug, every app report 4mV, but its actually 4.xx Volts.
Browser lags on stock cm9 rc4 and other cm9 ROMs even though I set the governor to 1800mhz. And sometimes it freezes my phone and I had to remove the battery and power on again. Even though cm is stable. Its still laggy, Arco and Ivendor are only focusing on WiFi and BT problems and adding new features but cm9 will always lag

Checked with AndroSensor and that shows me 3.0 Volt currently, so maybe more a bug of Apps ?

Couldn't find any big lags with Browser, testet it with Arco's current Beta Build 2.
Maybe you have installed to much Apps that fill memory ?
Also it depends on the Sites you visit (bandwidth, content etc.)
Besides of this, I think, acro and Ivendor focus their work on the Basic bugs (like deepsleep problems).
Even if there is a problem with the Browser it's work for CM-Team, not for Arco68/Ivendor....

Currently testing Arco68 Beta Build 2 and I couldn't confirm any such lag for the moment, so maybe it's only ivendor specific and therefore you should write there for it. Here I want only summarize Bugs, that are NOT Rom specific but something that we can see in both versions.
But I will keep an eye on it.
Extreme battery usage on all cm9 based roms when on gsm radio signal 2g or 3g. Battery drain is about 8% per hour, phone is in deep sleep with lot of little wakelocks..
On wifi its 1-2% per hour...

Can confirm it for 3G (added it to OP as Important issue), must test it for 2g as it is reported as far better than 3g.
Anyway thanks, that you have remembered me to observe this issue.
Nova 3 dosen't work...incompatible .

Something wrong not with the apps but the sensor. Your device cant work with a 3.0V battery. Androsensor report 4.0V battery voltage.
I think the numbers after 4.xx and 3.xx is not show or report. Something is not good thats sure.
Ad hoc wifi is buggy! It freezes on "obtaining ip address"

OK I've got it...At first moment I wrote about this bug because it that appears in all CM9 except for arco build...
I changed my daily ROM from cm9 to cm10. CM10 by doomsday is so smooth that it is faster than cm9 with init.d tweaks and castagnit kernel and geeky engine with JB Libs. I'm playing gangstar with 0 lag. But only videos make cm10 reboot.

No. I mean that cm10 runs better, smoother and faster than cm9 that has an over clock kernel.
White screen bug appears in:
- Facebook
- Gmail app (from Gapps or downloaded from Google Play)
- Stock Email application
Sound is "blurry and Cracky". With and without an equalizer (DSP/Beats) Caused by the bass in music (ringtones/notificationsounds/mp3/flav/wmw files)
BLN is not working properly (kernel related)
3G/Wifi drain when they are used (kernel related, perhaps the drivers?)
Wakeup lag when cpu is at 245mhz or less ( just change min freq to 368 mhz and there is no bug but it can use more battery)
I havent found any other..
Thanks for detailed Report, will Sort it out later.
This thread is not Form CM10 or customizations (CastegnaIIT Kernel counts to that) also please No +1Posts !
Will mod ask to clean thread up....

The white screen bug also affects Facebook app and some rss readers (goodnews yes but not hd reader).

Updated first post (exspecially about white screen).
About your bugs:
Can you name me a example for Sound problem ? Because with acro's Beta 2 the Sound seems ok for me, I couldn't hear any heavy cracks or blurrs, and I tested all notifications that comes with CM9. Also the sound of phonecalls is quite ok.
BLN is not a normal function of CM9 Rom, it's a customization and only in ivendors Rom, acro's rom has no bln support. So please post any bugreports regarding BLN in ivendors thread.
3g/Wifi i tested with acro's last Build and it seems on par with BOKQ4 (used same baseband for testing), so this also seems no longer a big problem (think, ivendor will merge the changes from acro into his next build)
If you mean with Wakeup Lag the first Bug i've reported: did 368mhz really do the trick ? That would be a good information for workaround. Or did you mean something else ?

umm no audio...
edit - reboot solved it. Audio is slightly tinny and volume seems to be low.
I love it but really really miss sense is it possible to install sense somehow on cm7?
I had a problem getting wifi working so I nandroided back until I have time to fiddle with it tomorrow.
I also had a problem with wifi - the reboot that fixed audio also fixed the wifi issue.
*
My two wishes for this are now:
The camera app that came with inspire - I think it was superior
Sense
Have you tried rebooting? First boot WiFi won't work. It's a common problem..

randomblame if you want Sense you don't want CM7. The Camera is part of the HTC framework and can't be added.
Meh I can want a lot of things that are not possible - it's my god given right as an xda forums member
Do I have to flash a different radio in order to do this?? I did the ace hack kit and did the little upgrade thing and now I'm on coredroid Tom with telus kernal
This rom is awesome. Installed, rebooted and everything worked. No need to flash anything else

What is the difference between using 3.0.0.5 and 3.0.0.6?
Is anyone having issues downloading from the Market after flashing this ROM?
I have updated the ROM to "Extra Fluffy". Also I have applied the TurboniumX audiofix and installed a newer version of the hrkfdn kernel with up to 1.5GHz OC.
I lost wifi completely after this update. Tried rebooting 3x still shows "error" under wireless settings wifi...thoughts?

Ah crap. Problem fixed, I have uploaded a fixed ROM. You can either download it again or simply push the attached file (extract zip first, obviously) to /system/lib/modules and reboot.
Looking forward to giving this a spin. Would you happen to have any screen shots? Didn't see many on the original thread in the desire HD forum. Secondly, is there a huge difference in battery between 1.2 and 1.6 kernels?

I could give you a screenshot, but I only have a Desire HD, which is why I rely on you guys to test it ;p
It's basically just CM7 with a lagfix that fixes UI delays on some devices.
It definitely does make a difference, can't tell you how significant it is, though. It's up to you what frequency range you want to use (change with SetCPU).
I don't believe that 1.5GHz is really necessary, but it was requested quite often.

What's not working
- Camera Auto-Focus when shooting videos.
- Camera Manual-Focus when shooting pictures.
- Video playback 2/3 blue in portrait.
Thanks!

Battery
I seem to be getting about half the battery life with this ROM as I did with the sense ROMs, is this normal? or just me?
Seems like idle battery use is always about 18 to 30mA, at least for me. Anyone else?
r2doesInc has been kind enough to give me permission to start a new thread dedicated to the OMFGB (made by Team t3hh4xx0r) Nightlies on XDA, as he no longer posts here. No0b guide!
Upon the recommendation of one of the thread followers, I decided to put together this thread to help noobs getting started. Hope it helps, but if you need more assistance, PM me and I can help in greater detail.
Kernels
It comes with the up-to-date CM kernel, however there are other ones that you can try! You can always use the Kernel Manager app in the market, but I'll also provide links to the threads and basic explanations of the most popular ones below.
Godm0de: toastcfh is a legendary kernel master on XDA, and he constructed this excellent kernel a ways back. It is the best non-SBC kernel, in my humble opinion. It includes overclocking and underclocking capabilities, undervolting, uses CFS, and is based off of Linux kernel 2.6.38-8.
Tiamat: an excellent kernel, available in both SBC and non-SBC. It also includes overclocking and underclocking capabilities, undervolting, uses CFS, and the most recent version is based off of Linux kernel 2.6.38-8. I personally have used the most recent SBC version (4.1.0), and really like the new lagfree governor. Personally, however, I use the famous 3.3.7 kernel, which gives unparalleled battery life.
Savaged Zen: although it is no longer in development, this kernel is absolutely wonderful, and I was a staunch supporter for a long time. The final version is 2.2.1, and includes overclocking and underclocking capabilities, undervolting, comes in both CFS and BFS versions, comes in both SBC and non-SBC versions, and is based off of Linux kernel 2.6.38-7.
I won't go into detail about all of those individual features (that is what Google is for), however I will single out SBC because of previous debate on the topic. SBC is essentially a “trickle charge” of the battery, or charging more than 100% to fully maximize the charging amount. Non-SBC kernels charge to 100%, then discharge to 90%, and recharge to 100%, and continue this cycle while still showing 100% in the top bar. This is why when you pull the phone off of the charger it instantly drops down to 90%. There have been reports of exploding batteries when SBC was first introduced, however these were quickly dismissed by many as cheap Chinese batteries (or other rumor-based exaggerations), and there have been no reported cases since this time. Point is that SBC is considered use at-your-own-risk, although I've used SBC kernels nonstop for nearly a year and have not had problems. Just an advisory notice.
SetCPU
To control how your kernel works with your CPU, you can use the SetCPU app that is available for $1.99 in the market, or for free from that thread (support the developer if you can, its worth it). This app will let you set what minimum and maximum frequencies you want (to overclock, underclock, etc), and how the CPU scales within that range. You can also use different governors, which affect the timing of that scaling from one frequency to the next based on different heuristic algorithms.
Vipermod
Vipermod is a mod that allows you to undervolt to a greater extent than what most kernels will come with. You see, kernel developers make their kernel with the target of stability, so they provide appropriate power at various frequencies to allow most users to enjoy it without further modification. That said, many phones are capable of using less power to effectively run at these frequencies, which will increase battery life. The tutorial to install and use the mod can be found on the thread, but just keep in mind that if a phone cannot handle a certain frequency, you'll get random reboots when the frequency scaling is tested. Hence, the general philosophy is to start by undervolting by -100mV, and if you get a random reboot, to increase by increments of 25mV until you no longer get those reboots. Personally, mine stopped rebooting at -50mV, and I've seen significant battery savings at this level.
Keep in mind that only certain kernels have the structure to allow this mod to work. When you try to run it, your phone will tell you if it can't run on that kernel (don't worry, it doesn't break anything, it just sucks).
Sysctl Config
The Sysctl Config app is available for free in the market, and allows you modify how your kernel frees up system resources (i.e., closes background apps, manages open apps, etc.). I won't go into what the settings mean (Google can do that for you), but the basic premise is this:
Ratio Values mean that the higher the number, the greater the percentage of app cache is stored in memory before being cleared by the system.
Cache Pressure means the pressure the system exerts on apps to close when pushed to the background.
Most kernels default with the settings of Dirty Ratio=20, Dirty Background Ratio=5, VFS Cache Pressure=100. If you change them to Dirty Ratio=95, Dirty Background Ratio=70, VFS Cache Pressure=1, it means that apps will keep cache handy longer (system resources used less frequently and smoother app use overall). Of course, you can experiment with those values, but this is dabbling with advanced kernel stuff so don't get too crazy.
V6 SuperCharger
I haven't gotten the opportunity to use the SuperCharger mod too much, but it looks to be beneficial in aiding how the internal memory structure works with OOM Groupings and lowmemkiller values. Some users report drastic increases in multitasking and battery life. It requires the Script Manager app, BusyBox 1.18.2 or lower, and the Autostart Script the mod's creator developed. The installation details are available on the thread.
I'll add more later, but this should get you started!
Sweet it might be easier to follow now I hope LOL.

Haha I hope so! Hopefully we can also get some more users of this rom, it really is underappreciated just because of its low profile on XDA.

It use to be more popular lol.
I have a suggestion for all the noobs on the forum these days maybe post the kernels that work with aosp with some links in the op so you don't get that question over and over again.
Just a thought.
Edit: another thought that would be cool if you posted links and howtos on V6 and vipermod in op .
That might draw some noobies in to this ROM and save on some questions being asked.

Definitely a sweet rom. To me it had a different feel than most other

Good idea ... made that into the second post.
I didn't include the supercharger mod because I don't use it, so if you (or someone) could PM me with the thread its on (couldn't find it) I can check it out and provide a tutorial there too.

BTW this ROM is amazing but I'm still having massive battery drain! Could it be an app? Im using Vipermod @ -75mA, V6 Supercharger, Tiamat 4.0.7 SBC and this newest nightly. It's like the most amazingly beautiful combo ever, yet it's owning me =(. Also did Fix Permissions in ROM Manager twice.
I'll try it...

Is this based on latest CM7 nightly #180 ?
so I can use metamorph themes?
Great AOSP ROM. Silky smooth even clocked down to 768 mhz and undervolted -100 mV.
Question: anybody else using GoLauncher? I'm having issues with GoWidgets (calender and message) loading after a reboot. No problems with any other widgets. I can uninstall and reinstall and they show up fine. I'm testing the 1.3.1 nightly. Tonight I'm going to try a stable release and see if I get the same thing.
Looking forward to getting more time with this puppy.
Very nice OP. Good Luck. By the way, Thanks for the links on your sig.

Have you checked spare parts? It sounds like there may be an app that is causing a wakelock, check to see if there is any partial wakelocks, sensor wakelocks, etc. There is also a number of battery monitor apps available in the market that will tell you what app is using all that power, so you can sniper it a bit more effectively. The only other thing I can think to recommend is a battery calibration, if you haven't done one in a while. It absolutely NEEDS to be done when coming from a Sense rom, but every once in a while I need to do it even though I'm an AOSP all-the-way guy. It just happens when you try new kernels. PM me with some photos showing the drain (after trying those methods, of course ) and I'll see if I can help you out.

It is not based on any CM7 nightly ... they customized AOSP from scratch. I can't tell you if metamorph themes will work, but if they are built for CM7, I would venture not. Just the T-Mobile Themer app.

I am an avid GO app user, and swear by Launcher EX. The widgets not showing up after a reboot does happen with me as well, but ONLY on a reboot after I clear dalvik cache and cache. The secret I've found to geting them back is that when they show up as that white box, remove them from the screen and reboot. Once rebooted, put them back on the screen and they show up fine. They will stay on reboots too, at least until you clear those caches again.
Btw, don't ask why it does this, I have no idea haha.

I've checked spare parts and the highest partial wakelock is Android Systen with 1m 57s and the highest sensor usage is Android System again with 46m 51s of total time. Nothing came close to those. Could you name to me one good app that monitors apps that drain battery? xD I'm using Battery Monitor Widget and System Panel Full. I've also calibrated the battery, no dice. I noticed on my Battery Monitor Widget that something is using 2mA while I'm charging with SBC. I know it's supposed to be using 0 mA -_-

It's theoretically SUPPOSED to do that, however it stays between 0 and 4mA (not a constantly 0 charge). The longer that you've had your battery, the more it does this.
One of the things that is rarely talked about with SBC is that it shortens the overall life of the battery. By gaining that 10% extra per charge on the frontend, it shortens the lifecycle of the battery significantly. Considering we replace our phone every year it rarely is a deal breaker, but the battery's ability to retain that superfull charge we all love about SBC lessens over time. Personally I believe it is totally worth it, but for people that hold onto their phone for more than a year, they sometimes need to get a new battery.
Out of curiosity, what kind of "massive battery drain" are you incurring? What kind of overall battery life / screen on time do you get, in hours?

Release / Update News for 4.14.2012
For this update I've resynced for new commits from the AOKP repo. The new build doesn't seem to crash often like the first build. However AOKP doesn't seem to like live wallpapers. I've just noticed that if you select a live wallpaper it will freeze after a while then you try to change the wallpaper to anything else the background of the launcher will remain black. This can be fixed by restarting the phone. Or it could be something that needs more testing.
I've added in the official boot animation but it doesn't seem to fit the screen perfectly. There was a similar issue with the first MIUI build. I'm still testing to see how well GPS actually works.
So this update seems to be really fast. It doesn't seem to crash or slow down like the first build.
-See how different wallpapers behave.
-Check ROM Control options (I saw some issues with the Navigation Bar settings. I think its a Team Kang issue.)
-Stay clear of the Start-up Scripts options. It doesn't work for now.
Other than that the ROM should be much more stable and faster than the previous release. Try and give me as much feedback as possible.
Thanks
I only tried it out for a few minutes. There was no boot loop, and it seemed to run smoothly. Nice work.
Can someone put up screen shots and working and non working please?

Once I get to a desktop I'll upload some screenshots. Right now everything moves relatively smoothly but some bugs do exist. For example, spell check is not working right now and most words are considered mispelt. Also, the Play Store did not sync correctly and I had to download all apps manually rather than the automatic sync. Some usability bugs such as freezing screens do occur, but not enough to be a major nuisance. The special AOKP settings work fine. If you prefer the software buttons of the Galaxy Nexus they will work, although the action overflow button does not seem to show up in the bar and the physical menu button must be used. Backlighting on the keys works while the softkeys are enabled as well. I am yet to encounter any of the screen blowups Kemikal referred to in the OP. Benchmarks (for you benchmark nerds) will arrive with the screenshots.
Edit 1:Never mind about the later comments. Screenshots are attached.
Edit 2: Found the screen blowup in the battery portion of the settings. Music and mic are working.
Edit 3: Once the ROM seems to run for a couple hours without a boot or anything the system bogs down and system ui crashes occur at a relatively high frequency. Home screen redraws are more prevalent than Jocala's CM9 ROM.

I've noticed there is an issue with like a sleep of death where the screen stop working randomly except you can see what's on the screen during the CRT animation.
Gerrit style bug reporting. One person to report something another to review and confirm the issue. I didn't get much of a chance to test everything before I released it.
This is in Alpha stage so expect some bugs out of it. This is built from the same source as CM9 so in theory there should have been any other than a borked camera. Yet something must have messed up during the compile process and minor parts are broken. The touch drivers were half baked. I'm assuming from your reports that somethings also wrong with the dictionary files.
Some things haven't compiled properly and they cause issues.

Camera is bad from CM9 so its the same source so its broken here too. New thread so I haven't completed reviewing the bug list.
Also, The issue with your apps not auto-redownloading from the market is something I've seen on many different ROMs on many different devices. I have no idea what causes it. I believe its more of a universal issue for Google to address.
hmm this seems nice ill try it out
Thanks for working so hard for us in making this ROM. I think that if you can get everything working on this one, I might stray away from cm9. Big thank you to jocala as well.
Thus far, the main things that I have noticed issues with are as follows:
No notification for wifi networks,
Start up tweaks do not remain enabled,
Dictionary believes that no words except for a select few simple ones actually exist.
Automatic time zone thinks I am in the middle of the Pacific ocean instead of in Atlanta, GA.
There are some other assorted small things, but I'm more interested in helping you test out the major issues.
I have not yet tested the GPS. Work and sleep make spending the amount of time I want to on these things impossible. I hope that this info is helpful to you. And thanks again.

Yeah same here. First lock was set by GPS accurate to 20 meters. Second lock in different location was set by Network Triangulation, accurate to 40 meters. Maybe its just because I'm indoors. I'm expecting to release an update on Saturday. No word yet on what might be improved or fixed.

I had this same problem when flashing to a rom, and then going back to stock. I found this solution:
1) go to settings>applications>manage applications>all>google services framework>clear data also go to >all>market>clear cache and force close finally to all>market>clear cache and clear data then Reboot phone
2) Open and sign out of GTalk, then re-open and sign in.
3) Open Market and accept agreement. Let it load your apps. Close Market.
4) Go to market.android.com and sign in. Go to My Market Account>Settings tab>Edit>Nickname your phone and click Update.
5) try Installing application from market.android.com

very good, great options in rom control.
i did have a glitch, and since you asked.....
whilst connected to wifi, and using opera mobile, and, big buttons keyboard,
i attempted to type in the embedded google search box.
this proceeded to cause opera to freeze.
whether opera,or,big buttons was the cause i can't say,but the rom did not seem to like this combo.
LOL I never thought my moms phone would be getting ICS I'll flash it on her phone in a bit!
I just flashed to this rom to try it out, runs great and has very cool controls. But I still prefer CM9 AOKP feels like a overly customizable launcher but still nice!
I've noticed that after rebooting the phone, the sliding is choppy.I mean,if a slide slowly ,the page dosen't move, and after a while,it jumps where it should be(where my finger is on the screen) . Could be a few things...
- Things are still opening in the background (scanning SD cards, etc.)
- Starting to cache the pages
- Things eating up CPU in the background

if your on stock rom then we have conservative governor and cfq io scheduler , this not good for performance
also with cfq media scanning at start causes lag for about a min
u should try a custom kernel with good governors and io scheldulers
Tnx for your reply guys.
Well. the SD card scanning was finished, and I always clear my cache and keep my phone with minimum programs running in the background. And this continues to happen(the choppy sliding) until I do the camera thing.:|
And yes,I use a custom kernel. But this happens even though I use Stock or custom kernel with the governor set to performance and i/o to sio.
I've been having this issue since i bought the phone, but never discovered how to fix it. until a few day ago.

Firstly , this issue has appeared in every 2.3.5 and above roms(stock or custom) . My previous rom(stock JKPK5) was not having this issue(or at least not that severe). But roms such ar XXKPQ , XXKPU etc (2.3.6) had this issue.
My current rom is [ROM]CleanValuePack[2.3.6][XXLE4] with [email protected]_PC#13 kernel.
I must say that I have not tried the camera thing except on JPKP5 . And my current rom.
A permanent solution to this issue is upgrading to CM9 (not kidding), browsing is waaaay faster than stock roms.
HOWEVER CM9 comes with other bugs:
No H/W acceleration (HD videos can't be played unless you use 3rd party apps)
No Video Recording
No WiFI tethering unless you use 3rd party apps.
Now the most annoying is video recording, but if you don't really need it for now upgrade (Bugs are getting fixed really fast, thanks to dhiru)

Hi,
I wanted to know if there are reasons of why we should try IceCreamSandwich or JellyBean roms for daily usage that still have bugs, other than keep with Gingerbread, and in my case, Frankenstein´s rom.
What I really want to know are if ICS and JB have some benefits, or we just want to use them because they are new.
I only have my SL phone, and that´s the reason I don´t want to start flashing lots of roms again... just want one that works well and in which battery lasts reasonable time.
My normal daily use is:
· 1 hour speak
· mostly 2g or wifi connection. Almost no navigation.
· lot of whatsapp
· 30 min average of bluetooth
· sometimes some gps
With this use, my battery lasts aproximately 2 days.
I don´t play games, I don´t watch movies... I just use it as a regular mobile + whatsapp, gps, adidas micoach, jefit, and small apps.
I think it would be good to receive some advice of those who tried different roms.
Thanks for your time, and hope this thread is useful to solve other questions also.
The reason is that people get bored of same old UI.
So we try ICS and JB.
They do support UI flexibility.
Also performance of phone increases in games[That's not for you]
And They also support more number of apps than GB.
But be sure that you won't get same battery backup though.

some apps dont work on GB (google chrome, google now, etc..), thats why i switched to JB...
battery wise, mine last a day (using an internet simcard and switched to 2g), used only for updates, whatsapp and viber...
if you were to switch to a custom rom, i would suggest you use jellybam...
But jelly bean and ICS have lower autonomie than GB
About 1 or 2 day

Hi there.
I m currently using Frankenstein Mod (v 3.8) and i want to go for some JB or ICS mod which should be at least equal to Frankenstein in terms of Performance. Please .. and i want a fully functional Keyboard, To play 'Agent Dash', possibly error free GPS and full whatsapp.
Any good suggestion will be appreciated. And i have REMICS-JB in my mind!! what say

That's the risk to use JB or ICS, but if you use Jelly Bam the recommend version + Revolution Kernel = your phone live about 1,5 day or 2 day (I'm on Jelly Bam)
Of course, your phone still need some setting in the performance menu, suggested governor: SmartassV.2 with min speed 300 and max speed 1000 or 1200. That should give you no lag but battery saving phone. If you think your phone taking too much power, use CPU Spy, you can found it on Play Store

According to this, there's no reason to go for ICS or JB (Plus, these are NOT totally stable/reliable/functional).
Stick to good GB kernel/roms.

Well..
I tried to install CM10 Alpha 4 with no success. I don´t know if it is some trouble with my modem (I´m from Argentina), or what, but I tried 4 times to install it and couldn´t make it work fine.
Now I´m on CM9 Alpha 14, with Alpha´s 11 Kernel.
I like it, but I find it a little bit laggy.
Is this just a characteristic from ICS in our phone?
Any other Kernel to recommend?
Now that I´ve tried ICS and JB, I can say that a big difference I find is the way some shortcuts work.
For example, when you pull down the notifications menu, you can access the setting from there, and in JB, you can go to alarms or calendar.
Also I like the new recent apps.
What has to do with the design, I find ICS and JB really pretty. Spaces between things in menus, and other stuff look very well.

Hi,
I wanted to know if there are reasons of why we should try IceCreamSandwich or JellyBean roms for daily usage that still have bugs, other than keep with Gingerbread, and in my case, Frankenstein´s rom.

Defntly for daily usage i strongly recommend GB over ics/jb.. The main issue with later 2 os is battery. I m nt getting even half day with moderate usage..(at present i m using REMICS 1.7) bt still m using it bcs it is more user friendly, support more apps finally, atleast to my frnds i can say "i m running more advanced os than u"
Some user have good battery life with jelly bean (2 days) !!!

For me, I use Jb instead of Gb because:
-Video call with Gtalk. No Gtalk vid call on Gb.
-Beautiful UI. The spaces, the consistency of usage of colours, the fresh new look of android.
-Built in Data Monitor. I can track my data usage and warning if almost reach limit.
-Expandable volume control(we can set media volume, ring volume and alarm volume just by pressing the button)
-Great keyboard.
-more apps supported.(apex launcher, some games, Chrome, stuff)
-settings button accessible in notification
-Swipeable notification (I like this because i can keep my text message to be read later while deleting other notification)
-Quick reply text messages using button on notification area without opening the messaging app.
-Google Now cards. It shows stuff without having to search for it.
-Very organized system settings.
-Different Widget displayed.(eg. Google+ widget in GB is a text bar to post new statuses. In JB, it shows people from our circle's posts.)
-Fast stock browser. (Updated html support)
-Can save web page for offline reading.
-can place shortcuts on lockscreen.
-apps on the market had given guidelines on the app layout.(not making apps that looks like iPhones and Windows phone apps)
-No pre-installed bloatwares.
-Can show to s2 users that I already have JB while they still ICS
Benefits of Gb over Jb(at this time):
-Tethering (tethering in cm10 is not yet possible)
-Have FM Radio in stock rom. Good to hear free music when bored.
-Have UMTS Video Call in stock rom. Can Video call using carrier charges(its the same price as voice call in my country. Very good to have)
-Can create folders INSIDE the app drawer.(value packs only)
-Good battery usage.
I would prefer JB more because I could use my phone more effectively. About the lag, I used the performance tweak and the Project Butter enchanter mods by Top Droid and the lag is gone!

amifiq which rom are you using & how good is the battery backup?
Im using cm10a3. Usually it last like a day if i use it like sms, whatsapp, calls. But if you want good battry life, use gb. Cm10 isnt stable yet so have not as good battery as stock.

As rightly pointed out by amifiq in earlier post
My views will be similar to what he said.
But to be frank Battery lasts only for a day at the most.
leaving it I would rather prefer the JB instead of GB.
Above all it is the firmware created by our devs.
That is more important to go for JB.
My SL is currently at -->
Jelly Bam v.4.0
SIRI KERNEL rc2
Performance Tweaks - Version 1.4.1
issues found as below ,
1.whatsapp
-heavy lag at times while switching from other apps (5sec delay)
-hang / or black screen when using camera , have to remove battery and reboot
- force close
2. MX video player
- phone reboot after watching 25 mins
3. copying files in debugging mode connected to pc
- become slower in day 2 and 3
attached is the catlog when i experience reboot while on MX player
sorry i have to put it here because my post is still less than 10
