How did I flame him by saying to use the search feature and telling him we really didn't need another thread on this topic because there are at least 3 already that were created before his? Umm that's not flaming.. I wasn't rude or nasty. I just said "how about using that search feature? Did we really need another thread on this topic? Like the other 3 didn't get the message across?" How is that flaming him? I didn't name call or put him down in anyway, just it seems in this forum(sensation) people create more duplicate threads then the other device sections I frequent. It clutters up the forum with redundant information and makes it tougher to shift through all the same crap to find a useful thread.

You know I have noticed more and more rude and sarcastic and flaming remarks as of late. I wonder if short tempers and faultfinding could be attributed to the following:
1. Locked Boatloader ( No definite time frame for resolution)
only vague promises and comments
2. No permanent root(temp root only)
A. No S=off for the majority so no custom roms etc.
3. Htc making vague statements and time frames(even the last blurb gave no real time frame for the US Sensation) and no realistic end in sight.(Hypothetically at least 2 months or more away, at least) Which leads to Feelings of hopelessness..
4. A great phone but many many issues(lots of returns and replacements)
5. Indecision as to whether to keep the phone or not.
Just some thoughts I know I have felt this way and if some of the above were addressed and accomplished I would have a better feeling about keeping the device and a better outlook about the situation in general.
Lets not take the circumstances surrounding the phone out on each other.

The frustration is coming from pushing the valuable info further away into the thread and on the first and second page we have 5 topics about the same thing. Xda should just take the search button away since no one uses it lol.

The point was good, the netiquette questionable. People just don't get "text" is NOT fully expressive. What do they say about not being able to have a picnic w/out ants?
I have seen a lot, and I mean a lot of threads turn into a flame fest immediately after the OP posts. People just want to contribute. Especially new members. Why is it so many of you feel the need to turn any thread you don't like into a total bash fest? REALLY?! I come here to see new things, learn a little, contribute and be informed... Instead I get to wade through a mound of worthless posts and constant thread resurrections. If you don't like it, don't post in it. Isn't that simple. Apparently not for a bunch of people. Why not spend your time contributing or not posting. It would make this place look and feel a lot more like a DEVELOPMENT FORUM than a kiddie pool. There is a general "talk about anything" thread already, so use it instead. Hopefully these words will sink in to a few of you. And don't flame this thread! I've been here longer and modded more than most of you so I feel I have the right to point out what a mess this place is becoming.

Some of it is just out of good clean fun and ball busting. I myself like to tease, kid around, and have fun. Most of the other people here do as well. Most stuff posted here isn't to be taken seriously. Although you are correct some of it does get a bit out of hand.
All the new topics in general of members telling us what to do and what not to do here is getting old. If a member has a problem with my comment I will tell them I was just kidding around. If they want to discuss a comment they can feel free to pm me and chat any time. But a mod nor a member here has never told me I acted out of line. One member snapped a bit until I told him I was just kidding and me and him are cool. Some people just have bad days and feel attacked.
In all honesty we are the calmest section on this board that I've seen. Everywhere else is 100x worse. We like to have fun here.

I have a problem with members making threads telling other members what to do, but I don't make a thread about it. Take offense? No, obviously though some people get offended easier than others.
My post today which has since been deleted was not meant to be trolling. In fact it was the first time i made a joke here at all.
I was trying to draw attention to a problem and it obviously worked.
Feel free to label me a troll if you wish but as far as i am concerned xda is not a trolling ground and i am far from it. Do i know how to push buttons? Yes but only when necessary.
Nrm and i did exchange a few cracks but as i said they were in jest.
So if my thread was seen as disruptive i apologize. I was just trying to help those like me who wanted to see a little change.

Same goes for you. You and I have no qualms and id love to see you jump in any future threads of mine (given they aren't development once i get there! LoL).
On one hand Im glad the mods cleaned up a bit. On the other i hope i didn't create a monster where no fun at all can be had. There needs to be a balance and a place. Only time will tell!
Regardless, as stated before i think our forum far surpasses others and Im glad to be here and can't wait to post some development! (a little trickier than i expected but Im slowly getting it)

Seriously, I've never seen any comment you've made on XDA that adds value or benefit to any discussion. He should post in a CM thread with 1,000 replies so his question can get buried under half a dozen ongoing discussions in the thread? OP had a legitimate question so he posted in Q&A. Get a life bro.

But back on track, to the op, ETA's for cm10 are unknown. They're currently working on getting the codebase stable, but once that's done second tier features like this one will be implemented

This was asked on my thread and the best answer is: it's up to you. If it's important to you, see if you can hack it out. Or try to get someone to work on it for you. And I used to give **** to illnevertell, who coincidentally is someone I'd call a friend now. Does he troll? yeah. Could it be called annoying to some? Sure, but he has a point and his hearts in the right place. As I've mentioned before, its like being a government employee; when you deal with assholes and morons all day long, you begin to think that everybody is one. Question after question that could be handled without wasting anyone's time gets annoying as well. I actually saw a thread begun a while back for a douche mad at XDA and everyone in it because the idiot asked a dumb question in a dumber way and got his panties all bunched up at some ribbing about it. I believe it was something to the effect of "I am going to tell everyone I know on the net to stay away from XDA". Seriously? This is supposed to be a learning and sharing forum, not ****ing tech support for morons who want a flashy phone without doing anything to earn it. Go on ****ing Craigslist and find one of those assholes who sell ROM flashing, ok?

Can anyone offer an explanation of the insidious posts and flaming of anyone who even mentions the possibility of a status update? Is it fear that the dev will abandon the work? Is it a chance to appear noble? A chance to seemingly gain the approval of the dev? What is the motivation?

Im no dev but I would imagine the requests for an eta for a devs work gets annoying. Kind of like kids in the back seat of a car yelling "are we there yet are we there yet!" So the get flamed. Sit in the car and be quiet. You'll know when were there.

It seems highly ungrateful to ask when a dev is going to be finished with something. They are doing this in their spare time and without pay other than donations. They don't 'owe' us anything.
As noted, these folks do this generally because they enjoy it. It's also a "spare time" kind of thing, I would hope ! They have NO schedule nor obligation. They aren't being paid to do this.
Also realize, official updates from the carrier or manufacturer happen what, once a year ? Twice a year if one's lucky ? A custom ROM probably sees 2-3x the number of updates if not more !
All good answers. However I'm more so asking about they mentality of the people who feel it necessary to "protect the dev" and why they feel it's their responsibly to do so ?

I dont feel I'm "protecting the dev" by telling someone to stop asking for an eta. It's unnecessary to ask for an eta. The dev will tell us when its ready until then just relax. Go back to a more stable Rom until there is an update if there is a bug you can't work around. It takes time to test for bugs and fix them.

Because 1) are tired of seeing "ETA?" posts and 2) don't want the dev to stop work because they like what they are doing
Is the asking for an eta what is inflammatory or is it the responses that chastise the asker what escalate the argument? What would happen if the post asking for an eta was just completely ignored by everyone as though it wasn't there?

Most devs see what's being posted, even if they just glance over threads. I'm sure it makes them angry to hear nothing but complaining about their hard work. And to top it off w/ ETA' s is ridiculous.

There's probably no "think" about it. Check the join date (not the 'post count' because many people are "lurkers") of those who ask for ETAs and I'll bet a pattern will be clear !
It would be nice if they just went back to lurking and let the devs worry about making the Rom and not etas.

Well it's not starting out friendly lol. Cardboard homes, jeez. It's a rough crowd in here. But seriously, I think it should be noob friendly and a no flaming zone.

I agree. Most of the time, most noobs still dont know what they are asking. Even after reading this **** a few times. Its still greek.

Agreed don't wanna scare them away. The point is to draw all their questions here and keep them away from dev threads and such.

Hey guyz! I found this Galaxy S4 ROM and, since I have a Galaxy S2, I figure it will be at least half compatible because, I mean, 2 is half of 4 right!?! Is this logic correct? Also, if I put this ROM thingy into my phone, will it make it equal to a Galaxy S3?

You'll have to stop the flash half way through or you'll get a bricked s4. If you stop the flash a quarter way thru your s3 will be fine.
Edit: if you get the bricked s4 just use the dbag service to get it fixed. Just Google dbag

I have since received a couple PM's by some very sincere users who want this thread to go on. So---- I have reopened and have also subscribed to continue to monitor this thread.
My opinion below still stands, there are already a couple threads that, if you used search, most users would find what they need. But, as this thread is covering all the other stuff, I have reopened it.
Trolls and flamers have no place in this thread and will be infracted, no more warnings.

There already is a similar post/thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427268, coupled with the fact that this type of thread does nothing but invite content-less flaming and trolling.
