[Q] How can I install a new battery icon? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Here's the problem
I was using a ROM that had a battery I didn't like so I installed a different one using the ROM ToolBox app and now I have a combination of two icons.
I'm looking for the blue ICS battery, the percentage would be nice, and how to apply it to my status bar.

i used rom toolbox pro from the market lets you in change the status bar icons i use circle green for mine
this one is the one you need from it because you need to replace every battery icon png file if not you will have a mix
if not you can decompile the framework.res apk replace the png files witb the mod/pics you want then recompile the apk and flash
i dont have any links ob me to show you how decompile/recompile but you can find them in xda look for apk ics decompile and apk tool

Did you try going to the UOT Kitchen? You'll need to upload your framework-res.apk file.

Take the attached zip file and unzip it and then take all the images and drag and drop them into your theme's framework-res.apk. Just open your theme with winrar then goto services/framework and double click on framework-res and then goto the res/drawable-hdpi and drag the images from the attached zip into that dir then when you close that window it will ask you if you want to update the file say yes and then you can reflash and you will have your blue cir battery.

Can someone show me how I can personally change my top taskbar menu (if it's possible) and where can I find the themes for it?

It all depends what you're actually trying to do?
Just change a color? Change the pull down background? Add quickpanel toggles?
I flashed my phone back to stock rom and I just wanted the taskbar to look like the octane rom that I was running on before.

You can try pulling the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk from octane and replacing them in the appropriate spots in your current ROM as long as the rom you are on is deodexed. But it may,not work. Or, you can replace the .png files using 7zip and then replace those files with your new themed ones (less chance of fc or bootloop). But the second method is a bit more detailed.

transparent status bar?

i am on a rooted german ICS rom and was wondering wether its poosible to have a transparent status bar?
I'm searching for itit too, i know it is possible but how?
I think that it is possible, but to make it happened you have to change some .png for the statusbar.
I believe it requires smali edits in systemui.apk
Sent from my GT-N7000
actually you can mod the apk file and edit the color of status bar as alpha blending = 1
this is the method the status bar is drawn as far as i recall it doesn't have PNG files for the actual background though you can define that too.

As mentioned before, its a smali edit. Then you can either set the status bar colour to transparent or set the drawable to look for an image. I'll post a quick tutorial when I get to my computer. Really easy to do providing you know how to (de)compile properly

Im writing this presuming you already know how to decompile ICS apk's, if not.......google is your friend
Make a backup of your systemUI just incase.
Decompile your SystemUI,
Navigate to /SystemUI/smali/com/android/systemui/statusbar/StatusBar.smali
In StatusBar.Smali, search for this line;
Code:
invoke-direct/range {v11 .. v16}, Landroid/view/WindowManager$LayoutParams;-><init>(IIIII)V
A few lines above this change;
Code:
const/16 v16, [B]0x4[/B]
To
Code:
const/16 v16, [B]-0x3[/B]
Save the file then navigate to SystemUI/res/values/drawables.xml
Look for the following line;
Code:
<item type="drawable" name="status_bar_background">[B]#ff000000[/B]</item>
Change the hex value (#ff000000) the what ever you want ((ff = 100% transparency)(000000 = black)
#00000000 - completely transparent
#7f000000 - roughly 50% translucent I think
Save the file then recompile SystemUI.apk, and then push the apk back to your phone with the correct permissions and if compile correctly you should have a transparent status bar
If something goes wrong, I'm not responsible....blah blah blah!!
Iv only done this on CM9 & AOSP/AOKP but it should work with stock/tw roms as long as they're ics.
I'm still not next to my computer so I can't remember the line of code to set the status bar as an image rather than a color, I'll post it as soon as I get home.
Handwritten by my AOKP'd up Desire HD & Note
How do I get a background Image, Like the attached Screenshot ?
Thanks!

Noob question - change battery icon?

I've never done it before but the UOT kitchen seems pretty straightforward. Except that XBSA's ROM is an img file.
So does anyone know how I can modify the icon to show a percentage? I don't want to use an app that clogs up my bar cos they close when you free up RAM.
Cheers

I'm not telling how to, just a suggestion: decompile SystemUI.apk and you will find the answer.
Sent from my LG-SU760 using xda premium
Ok found it. Do I need framework-res.apk as well? I will have a go at this later.
Edit - can't get it to work with UOT kitchen and don't fancy decompiling the apk and inserting the files manually.
Sent from my LG-SU760 using xda app-developers app
Use 7zip to open the apk as an archive delete old icons then copy the new icons ( by drag and drop method ) . If you do not have the icons you can get it from many themes or costume roms .
OR
you can use "Rom Tool Box" I think it's a famous app . Go to interface section and then choose "theme manager" do not choose "theme chooser" it's completely other thing . Then you will find many themes and icons for every thing .
But I use the manual method because I think it's more stable (does not make problem) do not trust apps or UOT Kichen , do it by your self .
Sent from my LG-P920
OK I'll see how difficult it is. Cheers
Sent from my LG-SU760 using xda app-developers app
If you just want to see percentage got to system settings/power saver and choose there.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
Cheers, that's better than nothing but its ugly. I'll try 7-zip and/or ROM Tool Box this evening
ROM Toolbox didn't do it - said ROM isn't deodexed and also there were quite a few files missing.
7-Zip next I guess
Sent from my LG-SU760 using xda app-developers app
I changed the icons in framework-res.apk and nothing happened. I don't even know where the old icons are coming from now as they've been replaced and don't exist but they are still there in my status bar :/
Did you delete the old icons before copy ?? 7-zip does not replace it . Delete the old icons then copy the new icons .
Sent from my P920
Hit thanks button if I helped
I didn't delete them but it does seem to have replaced them.
I have something sort of working - I also changed the icons in SystemUI.apk and now my new icons are working. However, its still not perfect as the charging icons are still not changed and the increments are only every 10% or so. I think I'd need to edit some of the XML files.
I am going to try replacing the framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk files with ones from a GB ROM. Wish me luck :/
Edit
AND.........boot loop. Oh well, I will try something else
I had the same problem (increasment 5%) but at that time I get the framework-res.apk from a costum rom (King_3D_Rom) and I changed the icons and now It works perfectly .

I'm using the ICS rom. GB files caused me to boot loop and UOT kitchen doesn't work for this rom.
I do have it working now with the charge animation as well (kinda) but still got the 10% increments.
Edit: its not bad though. Much better than stock at least. Increments are more like 5% or less. Less than 2MB so an easy install. Charge animation is still screwy though.

Black status bar for sense 4+

Ok, that was easy.
This worked for me. First im on JB_by_luxandroid_v2 (one s s3). I copied the systemUI.apk to my pc. Added .zip to the file and unzipped it. Searched for status_bar_background.9.png and used gimp to make these all black. Rezipped all the files to systemui.apk and copied back /system/apps using twrp file manager. Restart and all black status bar.

Hi, I'm using nova launcher with trickdroid 5 s3. HTC status bar annoys me. Would like to get it all black. Would appreciate any help with getting it. The option was before in the tweak packade but that isn't available anymore. Is there a zip to flash?
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
I did not encounter any zip to flash, but you could try decompiling systemUI by yourself, which I was too lazy for, so I flashed Pacman ROM.
However, you can download ICS Status Bar or Jelly Bean Status Bar by Team Syndicate, they overlay the Sense one with a AOSP one.
Tried the overlay from play store already. Would work fine on ics. Problem with jelly bean is whn you pull down the notifications status bar goes away, but the overlay does not. So that cuts away half of the clock and settings button.
Dont want to have to go back to ics

Just plain flat black.... i love it... the closest ive gotten is setting status bar transparency on home all the way in Viper ROM, either one 1.2.1 or 2.0.0, and having a black bg... But only good on home...
EDIT: I would love to remove the beveled look of the status bar....

I managed to decompile the SystemUI.apk couldnot find the obvious status bar file to modify to black, I assume there are several. Someone know witch png files need to be modified to get an all black status bar?
I have done this a long time ago on HTC touch but it seemd easier back then
been googling for hours, but cannot find clear tutorials on how to edit status bar pngs
ok think I found it. should be status_bar_background.9.png

I found another way. Probably you saw that you can apply some themes in the "customize" app from HTC. Well, the devs of Virtuous ROM made some more themes for that theme chooser, including a holo-like one with a black status bar!
