presents....
A guide to root the new ICS UVLH5 firmware update.
This guide will try and make it very easy to root your stock firmware for those of you who are having
problems or don't want to wait for a stock rooted rom
anyways here goes the step by step assuming that you have a Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4g T769 and are on ICS
UVLH5 firmware.
Before anything of course you'll need the files and here they are:
ClockWorkMod Recovery
Blaze Pit
Odin 1.8.5 Zip
SuperUser Zip
After downloading all the files first move the Superuser.zip to the root of your sdcard..not internal sdcard but the removable one. Then unzip the Odin zip and once unzipped:
Step 1:
Run Odin 1.85.exe, and prepare Odin:
Check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
Click PDA and select the TAR for clockworkdmod you downloaded. Click PIT and select the Blaze PIT your downloaded.
DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOU HAVE REPARTITION UNCHECKED
Step 2:
Connect the USB cable to your PC, but NOT your device.
Remove the battery.
Reinsert the battery.
Hold down Volume Up + Volume Down
Then while holding the voume keys plug in USB cable
You should now be in Download Mode
Step 3:
Make Sure repartition is still unchecked and click START in Odin.
Step 4:
When done the phone will reboot to the OS after this you have to reboot to recovery, here are a few ways.
1. adb command: adb reboot recovery
2. volume combo.
a. turn off phone.
b. hold volume + and volume -
c. while holding the volume buttons hold the power button for 10 seconds
d. after the 10 seconds release power button but keep holding volume buttons until you get into CWM recovery
Step 5:
Flash the SuperUser zip file
Step 6:
Reboot to System
Step 7:
Check whether root took or not.
Step 8:
If it did come back here and click thanks

Do we need to update via kies first?

Wait I did this a little earlier and I didn't flash the pit. Will this cause any problems down the road?

Yes or use the tar file a user uploaded around here a bit earlier.

I dont think there's a MAC version of Odin.... if you can somehow flash the CWM, you're golden. until then... ::shrugs::

Do I just drag the superuser zip to sd? gotta make sure..

you can. or download it. the important part is remembering whether its on your internal or external SD card when you go to flash it in CWM. as long as the MD5 is good, you're good as I figured out yesterday, my work computer messes with MD5's like a mutha******

I didn't expect to be able to do that so easily, but it all worked! Thanks much.

I had used the first stock root posted here, but didn't bother updating it to the minor patch that was released. I updated to ICS using Kies, knowing that I would lose root, and since my phone was rooted I was half expecting it to not work.
Well it did, and it almost worked too well. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't even lose any apps or settings in the process. I lost root of course, although surprisingly superuser is still loaded on the phone. (I've confirmed the phone is not still rooted)
Anyways, my memory is a bit foggy, but doing this process is a total wipe on the phone right? I might even prefer that.

honestly, as am i, as my reply had nothing to do with your post perhaps a lack of sleep, perhaps a miss click, idk. but I guess we never will

I wish I read this thread sooner.
Here's my situation:
I had a rooted Gingerbread stock ROM that I upgraded to the official ICS update using Kies. I then used the same ODIN method to root the phone and now it won't boot up past the "Samsung Galaxy S" loading screen. Any ideas on where to go from here? I'm afraid if I do anything else haphazardly, I would only be digging myself deeper into this hole.
Thank you!

You flashed a GB kernel on ICS. If I were you, I would flash a GB .tar using Odin (unless you can find an ICS .tar somewhere?). Then, boot into recovery and wipe system and data, because you'll see a blue ICS menu flickering in the background upon booting up into the GB phone setup screen. At least, that is what happened to me. Then, upgrade to ICS using Kies.

[AT&T][2.3.6]Heimdall One-Click Back-To-Stock UCKJ4 + Easy CWM install

Introduction
This package will totally reset your Infuse 4G to UCKJ4 . This package is intended for use on AT&T, however it will work with any device if you reset APN.
This package includes:
Repartitioning: Repartition to stock KJ4
Reloading: IBL/PBL, PARAM, SBL, SBL2, Kernel, Recovery, FactoryFS and modem
formatting:Cache and DBdata
This package does not wipe:
EFS(Where your serial number and carrier information is stored)
Data(where your market apps are stored)
SDCard (where your pictures are stored)
You may use this code to reformat the Data and SDCard *2767*3855# There is no way to do this from Download Mode. The code will leave the EFS untouched.
Download:
Download Total Stock UCKJ4

Instructions:
Get the latest version of java here: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
Put your phone into "Download Mode"
Run the program once, and if it does not work, then check the "Flash Bootloaders" checkbox and flash again
Your device will end up as it came from the factory. You will be asked to set your device up again.
If you would like to install CWM on your device to restore or flash a custom ROM, I have prepared LinuxBozo's Defuse 1.5 kernel in a One-Click package here:
Download Defuse 1.5
To flash this package, follow the directions above.
Please note, this may not boot your device, but it will allow you to use CWM recovery. Hold the 3 button combo without USB plugged in to activate CWM mode.
How I created these package:
I obtained the stock 2.3 bootloader from a link LinuxBozo gave me
The stock part.pit came from my device using Heimdall(Download Pit option)
Uploaded the UCKJ4 firmware to my device
Performed "wipe data" in recovery mode
Exploited the root prompt at the battery charge sequence using UART and grabbed the stock, wiped dbdata/cache partitions and params.lfs partition
Created a Heimdall tar.gz package using Heimdall 1.3
Finally, I used my Heimdall One-Click *BETA* packager to generate these one-clicks
This procedure can be reproduced for any custom ROM in the future by using the dd command to obtain the factoryfs and kernels from any device. Bootloaders may be obtained from within this package as it is an executable JAR file which can be unzipped.
Thanks

Any downsides we should be worried about?
I copied the first paragraph from another post I made. That was a typo.
You might want to put the defuse kernel in another thread. Don't want people flashing 2.2.1 kernels on 2.3.6
Also might want to make a Hellraiser kernel version for people that Odin'd the leak or Rogers users that want a quick root/cwm without Odin

This package is posted as a method to get your phone back to stock and the defuse kernel provides easy access to cwm.. I had it around and it works. I tested before posting. Its there because it will give CWM. I will probly post a new one later with a 2.3.6 kernel but for now, this is how you get CWM on your device from Linux or Mac with one click.
I needed to flash the bootloader in order to get mine to boot up, but its been running for ~1 hour now and looks pretty nice. Offhand, do you know if HDMI is working for you? I'll go ahead and test after posting and I'll include my results here.
Edit: Nevermind, found cross-post with the results I needed. Stock kernel, HDMI works, rooted kernel (Entropy, etc.) breaks HDMI as they're based on Rogers roms.

After running stock UCKJ4 for a few hours, I seem to be having an issue where I get an error message saying my Google Talk authentication is not working, to make sure Chat is enabled on my account, as well as returning errors any time I try to install things from the Market. Anyone else running into this? Going to try removing and re-adding my Google account.
Edit: Crap, apparently you can't remove it without factory resetting. Damnsauce.
After factory resetting, things appear to be fixed. Thanks again for this package!

oh boy, there is always a risk of permabricking when flashing bootloaders, (unless you did the unbrickable mod or have a jtag)
ok to start to see if you are actually permabricked;
1 pull your battery out
2 get a good micro usb cable, try this with more than one if you have to, if you had a problem flashing it may have been caused by the cable.
3 insert the cable into the usb port and into the computer.
4 hold both volumes with the phone face down, while the volumes are held slide the battery into position. see if the phone enters the download warning screen, it will ask you if you are sure you want to flash custom firmware, hit volume up. it may also go into a phone + computer screen or strait into download mode. all are good signs.
if you end up in download mode congrats! reflash!
if the screen is still black id recommend sending the device to connexion for jtag flashing or to adam if he is willing to repair it, these methods will void the warranty do to hardware modification (the repair may require soldering) . you may also atempt a warranty repair with samsung or insurance replacement with att but if they find that you are responsible samsung will charge you for the repair and im not sure what the insurance company will do.

[Q] Flashed Samsung Vibrant rom into Galaxy S 4G

I have my friend's galaxy s 4g and he wanted me to root it then flash custom rom,
I didn't pay attention since it says galaxy s on the back, I just downloaded a rom and flashed it but phone already messed up.
right after flashed it, got this screen http://i.imgur.com/NIYK2.jpg (!) and somehow i was able to skip it and get galaxy boot logo then phone keeps restarting.. tried to put it into downloading mode, but no luck, computer say usb device cannot be recognized, I even tried different usb ports and different computer, noluck.
Tried to find solutions by using search but nothing.. I am thinking to buy usb jig.
Any advise?
Lol. That sucks. Maybe next time you will do a little searching and reading up.
Now would be a good time to learn to search. You are the 10000 person to do this.
Look and you will find your answer.
Also.. this should be in Q and A.

Well, this does happens a lot. It'd be nice if odin could recognize which phone does the ROM you're about to install belongs to, and what phone is connected. If they didn't match, odin could warn you before flashing. And this wouldn't be happening as often.

Have you tried:

Plug in the USB cable
Hold down the VOL UP & VOL DOWN at the same time while putting the battery in
That might get you into download mode.

Ok I did, I used odin and stock firmware to flash then this came up and wont go away,
BUT ODIN still can see the phone
You probably need to flash a good ROM with good bootloaders. If you're not worried about going to GB, you can do this:
Grab chadster's KG4 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1183413
It has 4 files:
Put CODE_T959VUVKG4_CL1385158_REV00_user_low_noship.ta r.md5 in PDA
Put Hawk_Sidekick_VibrantPlus_831.pit in PIT
Put SGH-T959V-CSC-TMB-VIBRANTP.tar.md5 in CSC
Put T959VUVKG4-Phone-CL1037720.tar.md5 in PHONE
Let ODIN decide what needs to be checked & flash.

Awesome, glad it's working If you're wanting root, the easiest way (for me) is to flash one of drhonk's kernels from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032
Make sure you grab the one that matches the ROM you're on (KG4 in this case). Flash it via ODIN (put it in the PDA spot), and flash. Those will give you CWM, root, & voodoo.
Before you do that, though, I would update to a newer GB ROM. KJ6 is the latest & people have reported better wifi with it. I'm running the KJ6 ROM, drhonk's KJ1 kernel, with Adrenaline Shot v12 and my phone runs great.

[Q] Weird Root Issue

A couple months ago I decided to root my phone (first time). Everything went well using the RootDebugFS in Windows method. I ran rootchecker after rebooting a couple times and it checked out fine.
About a week ago one of my root apps (Quickboot) started to just freeze my phone when I tried to do a quick reboot using it. After trying rebooting the old way and doing a battery pull, I ran rootchecker just to see, and low and behold it says I'm not rooted anymore. The strange thing is that other functions that require root (tasker enabling GPS when firing up Maps and disabling it on exit for example) still work just fine.
I haven't done any of the OTA updates since I rooted, so I can't imagine why it would unroot like that...
I'm not running any roms or anything, only did the root and stopped.

I just tried that and it failed. It was already up to date, but I tried updating it anyways. A popup from Superuser came up and said " Superuser has been denied superuser permissions".

I ask because if you didn't install a custom recovery then an OTA can still be pushed to your phone successfully without your having actively approved it.

I have not installed a custom recovery. The only thing I did was root. I wasn't aware they could still push it without approval. I do not have CWM or TWRP installed.
I'm a little confused on how some root functions still work when rootchecker says I'm not rooted...?
Anyways, what do I have to do from here? Thanks for your help!

Well how about this, could you download a root app that you do not currently have installed and see if that fails to be given root access? Maybe "Adfree" or "Titanium Backup" then open the app.
Aside from this, what you need to do are the following:
1) re-root using the Debugs root tool you used. All of the existing official Verizon updates can be rooted with the same tool: VRALF2, VRALG1, VRALG7, VRALHE. For example, you should be on VRALHE right now, just run the tool like before and you're rooted again.
2) Install a custom recovery. You can download "EZ Recovery" from the Play Store then install ClockWorkMod 6 (CWM for short).
3) At this point you should be all set. You can boot into your custom recovery by turning off your phone then hold: power button, home button, and volume Up OR by using EZ Recovery and pressing "Reboot Recovery." I strongly encourage you to perform a nandroid backup while in your custom recovery so that you have something to restore to if you have serious issues from day to day use. However, we do have a wonderful program called Odin to restore you to factory settings in case you ever need another more thorough method.
Verizon (or any carrier) OTA's will fail if you have a custom recovery installed. OTA's will prompt to download but now they will immediately fail to install because they require you to have stock firmware AND stock recovery. This may be why you are in the situation.
**Optional** If you eventually want to flash roms/kernels then you will need to unlock your bootloader using EZ Unlock v1.2. This is more of a step if you eventually want to flash roms/kernels, but completely unnecessary if you want to remain stock rooted.

Awesome I will try all that a little later when I have more time and let you know how it goes. Thank you so much!
That worked! I went and did the backup through CWM as well. Thinking about flashing a JB rom now. I'll read up on that a bit. Thanks again!

Sorry for the late reply, I was at work. Awesome, I'm glad that worked for you! Before you flash any roms:
1) unlock your bootloader using EZ unlock v1.2. You can download that specific file from the GSIII section of the Rootzwiki website.
2) backup your IMEI using the Comprehensive IMEI Backup thread in the GSIII xda dev section. You must be unlocked AND rooted.
In order to flash roms/kernels you must be unlocked and rooted for them to successfully install. Otherwise, you will run into issues. When you've unlocked once then you are all set to flash roms/kernels!
Good luck and feel free to post your results.

Not trying to step on your toes snoop but I thought it might be important to state when you install easy unlock 1.2 DO NOT allow it to automatically update or do a manual update through the play store because the new version is having issues of keeping the boot loader unlocked.

Very true statement!
I will say this though, if you sideload it (like above) then it will not show up in the Play Store unless that's changed on these recent Play Store updates.
By all means feel free to comment or correct me anytime! I try to be thorough when helping others but I forget things just like anyone else.

This may be a noob question, but once you unlock it shouldn't matter and you can uninstall correct? I had 1.4 installed and agree it was a pain but managed to get unlocked after several tries, haven't used it since I first unlocked it though.

[Q] i727 stuck on samsung logo on boot

Hello.
My i727 was working seemingly fine. I left it to charge overnight. In the morning it was off and would not boot past the black and white samsung logo.
I have tried various battery swaps and power combinations. The recovery mode does not load past the samsung logo.
I can load the 'download OS' menu, when I continue, the text reads:
1, ddi : mmc_read failed
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I727
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
I don't know if that means it is completely bricked? I have never attempted to root or flash custom firmware onto this device.
However, it is out of warranty, so if loading a ROM might bring this back to life, then I'm certainly willing to try.
If there is any other information you need to help me troubleshoot this please let me know.
If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it!
Thanks!
Do a factory reset in recovery mode. If you can't do that you'll probably have to flash the stock rom with odin.

I don't believe the recovery mode works either.
Holding VOLup + VOLdown + POWER when the device is off simply brings me to the same b/w samsung logo and does not go further.
Can you get into download mode? Have you ever used Odin?

I was looking at flashing the stock rom as an option. I downloaded Odin3 v1.85 and the suggested stock rom via this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348
But, this happens.

but including the pit file doesnt matter. Odin still crashes.
For some reason the pics don't show up. But go to the development forum for the i957 and look for vincom's stickies on odin.

Go to sammobile.com and download the stock rom. You'll have to register but it's free. It'll walk you through getting the Rom. Download the oldest. It'll be a zip file. From that zip extract the .tar.md5 file using 7-zip. Use that in Odin, PDA. Have auto reboot and f.reset checked

The sammobile site has 3 firmwares listed.
The oldest doesn't list a version #, is that still safe to download?

Did all you said.
Odin still crashes at PIT mapping.
If I add the PIT file as well, it auto-checks re-partition, is that the next step?
if you got "1, ddi : mmc_read failed" u could have nand(memory) hardware failure
when trying to flash the pit file, actually called "celox.pit", repartition should not be checked, but not to sure on that for flashing the pit file
when trying to flash stock firmwares and/or recoveries and it hangs at "Getting PIT for mapping" or getting pit errors in odin, download celox.zip and "unzip" the file, select the extracted "celox.pit" file in the pit option for odin, with all other options unchecked hit the start button in odin, once flashed you can then flash the stock firmware and/or recovery in odins pda section.

Same thing. If it is a hardware failure, then that's the end of the line I guess?

AH jijo
I have a similar problem and I thought I'd share my experience.
I have two of these phones: one is white and the other black; the black is liquid damaged, stuck in a boot loop and the white was working fine.
I have/had one goal; to transfer raw EMMC data from one phone to the other. The information on the black damaged phone is very important.
Now, I successfully made a complete backup of the damaged phone's EMMC. I then pushed that raw data onto the working white phone's EMMC.
When I tried powering on the phone with the new info the phone had the same symptoms as the black damaged device.
I then attempted to just get the white device back to its working state by trying to flash multiple stock images WITH a PIT file.
There is where I received the same error message in Odin as the OP. I then tried a 3.+ version of Odin and it finished successfully but the device still does not power up.
I am short in time so I will stop here.
Don't use a pit file. Just Odin a stock tar

Does the SAMSUNG logo go out and the phone keeps vibrating every few seconds? My roomates did that and nothing I did fixed it. Finally found somewhere that the power buttons on the Skyrocket gets stuck. So after about 10-15 minutes of installing the battery while flicking the button with my finger, it finally booted.
Don't know if yours is doing the same but worth a shot.

Just an update to my previous experience. I successfully restored the phone back to it's original state.
For anyone curious; externally re-partitioning the EMMC took care of the issue.

[Q] I bricked my Samsung Infuse

Did I completely hose up my Samsung Infuse?
All the phone will display is this:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue.
Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
Nothing else - no recovery menu, nothing except the above message.
Samsung Tech Support says the Infuse is incompatible with Kies.
I was trying to updated the firmware to ICS.
Is there anyway to recover this phone???
Thanks

Note 3 ???
I contacted Samsung Tech Support and they say Kies does not support the Samsung Infuse.
Guess that is why when I enter SGH-I997 as the model # in Kies, it says its not a valid model #.
Wonder if Samsung is just abandoning the Infuse?
What I need is a procedure to do a complete Factory Reset where my Infuse phone does
not have any menu selections for download, etc. The phone will only display "Firmware
upgrade encountered an issue ..."
Yeah note 3 bought it yesterday.
As told u can flash it with odin,

I did try odin this morning. Odin reported success but the phone won't do anything.
I checked PDA and selected a Clockwork Mod (CWM) hoping I would get the boot menu but no go.
I had these checked: Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, and F. Reset Time.
Now that I think about it, should I have selected BOOTLOADER rather than PDA?
Phone this afternoon is at Best Buy where a Samsung Tech is looking at it.
I watched him work with it using Kies, etc and while there it was not fixed.
Carl
Got the phone back from Best Buy -- no joy.
Tried everything to un-brick this phone.
Did learn that Kies is not compatible with Samsung Infuse.
There might be a setup with Odin that will unbrick it but I really think its going to take some
other software because apparently data is not being placed in the phone.

THAT DID IT -- Thanks very much, I have my Samsung Infuse working now.
Those files worked perfectly with ODIN -- I did choose the rooted one.
What confused me was that my Samsung Infuse screen had only this on it:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue.
Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
BUT, when you provided me with those tiles above and I setup Odin
to use files for PIT, PDA, and PHONE, a blue progress bar started
appearing just below that "Firmware upgrated encountered ..." message.
Thanks much.

I found these Jelly Bean files:

BUT, when I try to boot ICS in Recovery, all that is displayed is ...

I had to remove the battery to get the phone to work again.

resulted in the GALAXY S screen.
Any advice?
