[Q] Bootloop only when starting up with SD card - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hello everyone, this is my first post here even though I have referenced the xda forums for some time now. I've spent a bunch of time trying to fix this problem on my own but now I feel that I have exhausted all of my options and I could use some help from anyone who has heard of or encountered this problem before.
The problem:
My Samsung Infuse will boot up completely and perform the SD card scanning but the SD applications won't show up on my phone (they only exist as SD card icons), which leads me to believe that it's not mounting properly because of some process or application that interferes during the scanning process. The phone will continue to run for a few minutes, slowing down exponentially as time goes on until it completely freezes and reboots to my boot animation which starts this whole process over and over again. However, the phone will boot fine and run normally if I remove the SD card. Occasionally, it will randomly boot normally with the SD card if I let it bootloop for a long period of time.
What I've already tried:
This problem started happening when my phone was completely stock so I researched it and tried:
- getting a new SD card (which actually seemed to work for awhile which led me to believe the original was bad)
- downloading a new launcher, switching to it and clearing the TW launcher data (this works occasionally when I can actually make it through this process without being interrupted by a reboot)
- performing a factory reset and manually loading all my data back to avoid restoring any potentially problematic settings
- recently rooting my phone and running UCLB3 firmware with Entropy's Daily Driver kernel with CWM to see if it was just a bug with the factory software
Since it's been rooted it seems to have gotten worse though. When everything was stock it would only do this occasionally but now this problem will occur every time. However, I was thinking that it might just be that the sd cards have to be reformatted every so often for some reason (I will try this out soon to see what happens). But if anyone else can help with this issue it would be greatly appreciated. It seems like this is a fairly common issue with Samsungs so I'm hoping that someone has figured out exactly what the problem is that would be causing this to happen.

Phone won't turn on...keeps restarting

I've read in other forums of this problem but have not been able to find a solution (not entirely true).....when I turn the phone on in the morning, it just keeps restarting without going to the home screen. Sometimes it take 2 reboots sometimes more. The only way it will boot up correctly right from the start is to take the mem card out, so I think that's probably the problem, but it's not a corrupt or problem card. Once the phone starts and I put in the mem card all is fine.
I want to try to format the memory card from the phone, but don't know how to. Anyone else know how to do this? Also any other suggestions or solutions?
I got this once. Somehow i got the phone on. I just took the card out and put it in when its about to restart. Mabye it was luck, but i dont know. But if you get your phone on again, I would certainly format it (clear storage)
Does your phone ever act up again after that? Mine still does. It turns on fine without the memory card in. By the way, how do you format the memory card on the phone?
Mine rebooted all the time until I removed Facade. Hard Reset the phone and didn't install it and haven't had the problem since. I know Facade isn't "compatible" yet with WM6, but other than rebooting it worked fine.
Really....I'm going to try that and see what happens.
For those that have this problem, it's true. Once Facade is uninstalled and a soft reset, the problem went away....
I had this happnen to me for the first time today. I had the phone off all night (was testing another device) and then when I put my SIM back in and powered up it went into this reboot cycle. powerd off, even took the battery out still no luck.
Then I took the SIM out and tried to power up and it came right up. Powered off and put the SIM back and it worked agian first time.
Not sure, but maybe the SIM was not fully seated... since this was the first time I actually took it out since I get the VOX...and this was the first time I had the problem...
Regards -John
I had the same problem, although I never installed Facade, Initially the phone was fine and the it started re-booting on startup. I saw a suggestion of running SKtools and removeing duplicates in the Notification table, this worked for a while, then it came back again.
At first the only cure appeared to be to re-boot without the sd card inserted - inserting it again after the phone was running (it even had the same problem with a blank card inserted)
I then read abot someone putting the phone in Flight mode before turning it off - this also solved the problem - better than removing the card each time.

After hard reset - lost option to store attachments on storage card
I had the same problem and solved it by hard resetting the device. However after the hard reset the option to user the storage card for email attachments has disappeared from the pOutlook options screen.
The SD Card is OK and I tried to solve it by a new hard reset, but it is still not resolved.
I would be very graefull for the one that has a solution for this.
I have the same problem with my SD card.
With the card inserted the phone keeps rebooting.
With the card removed it starts normally.
When I insert the card when WM6 is running the card is normal accessible.
Tried an other card and also a 1 Gb card. Same problem over and over.
I'm going to try a Kingston card.
If anyone has a solution, I'll be happy to hear it.
i have my microSD inserted when i power on my Vox but didn't have this problem. what rom version do you have? my rom version is 1.15.405.2.
I have a friend with a similar problem. Would appreciate any further input on this situation. Has anyone taken a look at Paul's (from Modaco) answer to soft reset loop????
Check it out and see if it does anything. Want to know if that'll fix it before I take the phone off his hands.
Hi all,
Like many Vox users, I've also suffered from this problem.
I've noticed two scenarios which helped me solve the "boot-loop". Hopefully they'll help others.
I once had a GPRS monitor application installed to my strorage card. Re-installing to the phones memory helped me.
Also, when I had bluetooth turned on, I powered down, powered-up again, and the phone booted okay!
I think theres a few variables involved in this, and no single "silver bullet". Hopefully HTC will provide an official fix soon.
Michael.
Friends,
Thats all humours. Don't need to remove/install any software. All work fine except you reboot and remove your SD card.
Its simple: if rebooting occurs, just remove SD card and once booted, reinsert SD card, simple! nothing else need to do.
Its true that its a bug with WM unfortunately; i don't know when would it be resolved.
i have tried to boot up with 512MB & 1GB sd card but never had this rebooting problem. Maybe you can let me know your current rom code version and i will try to verify the problem?
I have got the same problem my phone keeps on restarting...
when i put the mem-card after restarting it is being opened as storage card 2, and default storage card option asks for turning on the bluetooth.
Re: Rebooting of Vox
Hi,
Had this problem once (and drove me nuts!, I was out on tour, no PC access nothing).
I formatted the SD Card (Its always better to use a card reader and format it from a PC.
Another I had this problem (hope you are not as dumb as me ):
I use TPC and set it to ultra slow . So every time I booted up, the CPU was not simply powerful enough to cater to the power requirement and rebooted. I had to do a Hard Reset. Hope you have your contacts backup before you go for a hard reset

If you have bluetooth file explorer turned on, it will show as a storage card
i had it long time ago with one of the official htc roms.
The solution is to make loose the simcard-slot in the middle of the booting.
Vox will turn off.
Close and start the phone again.
It should be over then.
Re: Official ROMs
Yeah! The official ROMs suck! actually the best solution will be to switch to a custom ROM from Dr G/FH / fireburned, they are much much better feature wise/ battery backup wise and speed wise. I think HTC should try using one of those ROM as there official ROM

Severe system lag with CM

Hi,
I could do with some help relating to severe lagging with Cyanogenmod.
I've been a (very) happy Cyanogenmod user for a few months now on a rooted HTC Magic. Some time during December I upgraded to CM 4.2.10.1 (the one with the ext2 bug). This severely slowed down my phone, so I jumped onto xda-dev to see what was up. After reading about the ext2 bug, I decided it was time to partition my SD card, so I created a linux-swap, a ext2 and a FAT partition, then upgraded the ext2 to ext3. Next time I turned on the phone, apps2sd kicked in in the background and I was again a happy CM user.
The next day I was trying to move a file onto my phone from someone else's SD card, so I popped out my own one with the phone on - unaware that I REALLY shouldn't do this. Shortly afterwards, my non-standard apps all started disappearing and the phone started to play up. Realising that apps2sd had moved everything to the SD card I put mine back in and restarted the phone. Unfortunately it seems I'd already corrupted permissions for the apps, so after backing everything up I decided to wipe the phone and reformat the SD card with only a linux-swap and FAT partition so I didn't have this issue again.
After the wipe everything seemed to work very well for a while after reinstalling all my apps, however after a few days things started to slow down again. It's now been 2-3 weeks and even with all the CM updates the phone still lags most of the time although the speed varies. Restarting the phone sometimes helps for a short time, but I often get 'System: Force Close/Wait' screens just after turn on. Flashing new versions of CM does speed things up more after reboot but the performance quickly degrades again.
I could try another wipe, however seeing as the problem came back after trying last time I thought I'd ask for some advice with my problem as I don't want to reinstall everything only to be back to where I am now.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Paul
Food for thought : ive tried using cyanogen since ive got my magic, and it was always like this (Tried .12.2 and .13). And i've never even tried using app2sd. I asked the gang down in irc, they told me to get some bacon :/
OR you could have a damaged sdcard, badsectors and all. Try not using apps2sd for a while.

Fuze lags 1-2 minutes between commands ( on multiple roms)

My phone froze last night while i was sleeping.....so i attempted:
1.hard resetting the phone. It booted up again and became extremely slow in initial setup (taking about one to two minutes between each point in the touch screen calibration.
2. I tried updating to the tael rom again from SD card: same slow responsiveness.
3. updated back between tael/nrg/geny roms; the initial rom installation moves along quickly but phone becomes slow when its done booting the img from the SD card.
Phone seems to be getting increasingly hot often and things of that nature.
anyone has suggestion....
Hmm, definitely sounds strange. Just some ideas for you to try, since nothing else is working
1.) Back up what you need to (PIM Backup, Contacts to SIM, Media and Files to SD card AND YOUR PC), then remove your SD card. See if its still acting up.
2.) Without your SD card inserted, re-flash a ROM (TAEL or any other that you want to try).
3.) If it really comes down to it, I suppose after that, I'd let it sit for a day or two... strangely, I have had (namely computers) come back to life and work fine with just a day or two to let them sit....Then you could maybe try flashing back to the stock SPL and ROM?
4.) warranty service?
My guess is that the sd card is royally corrupted and slowing things down. Just try removing it and soft resetting. If that doesn't fix it, you may be hosed.

Phone Randomly Restarting

My new Z3 has randomly restarted twice today when sitting by itself on a desk. Any thoughts as to what's going on?
i experience once while i was sleeping in the middle of the nite. it suddenly restarted which cause me to wake up.
same here it happened while it was sitting on the desk, after the restart it did updates for apps from the google play store
Same here, soft reboot today when Phone was not in use. No need to enter pin.
The first night with SIM card inn it, it restarted a bunch of times. The two previous days I did not notice any restart but cannot say for sure that is did not. It has restarted only at night. Last night it did not restart, but it restarted this morning. I have not found any logging feature or app that could point to the reason for the reboots. Annoying!
random reboot
I still get this random reboot problem every now and then, phone was on stamina mode whole day today and restarted twice randomly. Have you guys found a soln on that?
I have literally the same issue. Have you guys found a solution or a culprit yet?
I think that I've just found the solution. I had the same problem for a while, at the beginning I had some reboots once or twice a day, but the other day I had 15-20 reboots in the same day, I did a factory reset but the problem was still there. Using the phone I noticed that I was in TeslaUnread settings when the phone rebooted, I tried againg and it rebooted always when that app was opened. So, I uninstalled it and I had no reboots for days. Today, I reinstalled it and after 5 minutes the phone rebooted. Now I'm pretty sure that the problem was that app. Tell me if you notice the same thing
Try to uninstall the apps who are not update for long time( such 4-5 month or more ) and see the result. For me works, after I uninstall one app ( I having 2-3 rebooting by day ) who are updated last time in 2013 my phone not have anymore random rebooting ( passed one month ! ) . I am pretty sure you have installed an application that does not support Lollipop ( is not updated for lollipop ).
Sorry to bump an old thread, but this problem has been driving me nuts and I think I may have a solution. Specifically for my phone (a Z3c), it seems to be related to the SD card. I had a similar problem last year where the SD card would be corrupted and cause lags/data loss. I then bought a new SD card. Now, the phone has been randomly powering itself off and will not even charge when powered off. Then, at a random future time, the phone will be able to be charged/turned on as if nothing happened. This behavior has become increasingly more common
I've tried reformatting, deleting unnecessary programs, clearing caches, etc. The reformat seemed to help for a few days and then the problem returned. Last night I did some more troubleshooting and removed the SD card. It remained powered on for the whole night (for the first time all week). In the morning, I put the SD card back in and the phone wouldn't power on.
Right now I'm wondering if anyone else having the same problem with their Sony Z can cure it by removing their SD card? I'm going to next try to reformat the SD card and, if that doesn't work, buy a new (maybe slower) SD card. My current SD card is a 64gb class X which I've anecdotally heard can have timing issues with some SD controllers. I find it strange to have problems with two separate SD cards in my phone though. Either I'm very unlucky, SD cards aren't made for longevity, and/or the Sony Z has a controller that eventually kills or corrupts SD cards.
I still have reboots on the latest firmware, full stock, no mods and no shady things installed. It seems like this phone is not able to last more than 10 days without crashing and rebooting at least once. Today I thought the problem was solved as I didn't have any reboot for the last 9 days but as I was reading a page on chrome, I left the phone unattended for 5 minutes as I went to get some food and when I was back I was greeted with the boot animation. This is absolutely shameful, feeling the buyers remorse already. If course there is no way to tell why it happened.
if your phone is under warranty, get it fixed.
Huge waste of time if it's a software issue. Also I already had the phone serviced and factory reseted and I still have the reboots. Does anyone of you guys have these kind of reboots? You can see in diagnostics, system incidents.

Random Reboots (OG shield tablet)

Hi
Can't remember whether or not this has been asked and answered, but here goes...
Shield tablet
5.1.1
Non-root
For the past 2 months or so I've been plagued with random reboots ( up to 2-3 times a day)
I've tried to
wipe cache 2 times
delete a whole bunch of apps
Change power settings
I have NOT YET tried to do a full wipe, due to the fact that I've got waaaay to many apps that don't sync data with google so it would be a major hassle to fix settings, copy data out and so on.... But am looking at backup solutions that include DATA ( helium)
I haven't been able to ascertain pattern.
Any suggestions on what I can do , or for that mater any way to find out why the hell it restarts.
Thanks in advance!
D
That's strange. So just reboots, no shutdowns?
I can only assume, maybe a rogue app with reboot access.
Just reboots
And It seems totally random.... everywhere from 4 times a day to non... Load dosen't seem to matter . From netflix and web to plain and simple spotify. It's driving me up one wall and down the other... can't figure it out, and really don't want to factory reset
Any form for event viewer or something that I can take a look at?
Worst part is I use it to take work notes and on a few occasions it's died (rebooted) on me in the middle of notetaking... starting to really mess with things ... and yes I know, do a factory reset, and I will if I run out of options. But my fear is that after I reinstall all the apps I'm back to square one, and it all starts all over again.
Maybe hibernating all non stock apps with Greenify could solve the riddle; if it's indeed a software issue. Once the problem ceased, activate one app at a time till the reboot bug reoccurs..
Hi
Sry for the slow reply
Been testing the Greenify for about 2 days and the same is still happening. I've more or less put all non stuck apps into hibernating list.. and run it every so often, as well as activated the hibernate at screen off. And it still happens... wish there was an event log or something that could point me in the right direction.
That's too bad. What if it is malware? I'd say make a factory reset. Stay clear of non stock apps and watch and see. If it still reboots, it must be a hardware issue. You still have warranty, aye?
Nope warranty is out, I think. I mean 2 year but got it back in 2014 at some point.
A damn it, was hoping to id the damn offending app and fix it without having to factory reset....
No one knows of any event / log feature in android ( akin to event viewer in windows)...??
I just read on Amazon that someone had the same issue inconsistent reboots and the culprit was a micro SD card.
Do you have on inside your Shield?
I had this problem like 3 months ago. When tablet was charging the led indicator was blinking on green an orange. The problem was that the cable from battery was connected bad, I just had to connect it with solder. (My tablet is replaced )

Yeah, I do have an NTFS formated sd card installed...
Do you know of any easy way to check...or even better fix it?
Replace the SD card with another one or don't use one for now. You can still backup via USB or WiFi.
It may be a incompatible issue or a damaged SD card.
Backup via usb? As in copy paste the content of the SD card?
I have a lot of apps on the SD card, and not enough space on local storage to move back to tablet ....
Was hoping for some software based diagnostic or test to check the sdcard
Yes, you can copy n paste. Or save new data on a new SD card etc.
I presume there are Android SD card checker apps. But I think that won't help if it's an incompatible issue. Anyway, unmounting the current SD card won't erase its data. It's the sour apple you've to try.
Just somehow experienced the same.
Android 7.0 - no root no anything.
It's weird. Now it rebooted with 1% and then died. Before it just rebooted around 40%. Anyone found a solution?
Thanks
