Hi there!
I have a HTC Wildfire S with S-Off and it is very easy to root it and install custom recovery.
I also have a HTC Desire S with S-Off but with HBOOT 2.02.002. there is any methods to root it and install custom recovery?
P.S. Both phones are xtc-clip s-off.
Thanks a lot!

Ok, could you share your method? For Wildfire S I used files like pg76img.zip.. This is also working on Desire S?

The method has been shared and posted so many times that I would suggest you simply read the stickies and the indexes and use the search function as well.
Maybe I am ignorant...but I couldn't find a method to root my phone.. could be the hboot 2.02.002 the cause?
And anyway.. I belive that this is a helping forum.. or not?

Actually XDA is a Developers forum - that was the key purpose for its creation. Yes, you can come here and ask for help; but I am suggesting that you read the information that is freely available so that you understand what you are doing and why - and how to get out of any problems you might encounter.

Hi there everybody,
I'm probably in the wrong section of the forum, and my questions are nubby I know, but I get confused.
My Desire S is S-ON, and I would like to get is S-OFF. Is this possible, because it is needed to be able to root the phone right?
And an offtopic question, what is a flash-able app, and what is the difference with a normal custom .apk which can be installed from the sd card.
Thanks in advance

It seems that HTC reverse its decision to block everything on the latest versions, after the petition that circulated on the net, requesting the release.

Actually, no.
From the same article:
"In short: custom ROMs, kernels, and recoveries (like ClockworkMod) may never come to the EVO 3D, barring some kind of epic HTC screw-up."

Read read read read read before u try anything. Just fyi. Learn about what you doing and what it does to your phone. Learn how to recover and backup. Jumping into this game isn't easy. And could brick your phone. But for starters you need to check here revolutionary.io to unlock, root, and install recovery. Also get S-OFF aka security off. Aka locked boot loader.

As RANDYRKELLY says: First thing is to read carefully, understand and learn. Search this forum for everything about rooting, s-off and flushing ROMS. There are great step-by-step how-to's in here, so that there's no need to explain it once more in a separate thread.
You should start here for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Yes, it is said to read well and understand that you want to do and unlock the boot with better revolutionary than http://htcdev.com/, good luck

Do not use the htc unlock. Will not give you read write state. U need to use revolutionary cause it roots, unlock boot loader, and installs recovery. Please don't miss lead him.

I said that after http://htcdev.com/ will not be able to flash custom kernel, and unlock a better revolutionary
your best bet is to stick to xda it has everything you need to root and flash whatever you want there are alot of threads that will explain what root off is and how to get it. it will aslo explain how to flash roms, and what that is good luck you can always post here in the q&a with any problems you have
thanks randy & kaym....
anyways its S-off...

Actually, your the one misleading people, revolutionary doesnt actually root a phone, it just gives an unlocked bootloader. Installing superuser from market is what gives apps root and a line in the build.prop file gives the user root permissions

I'm sorry because you're not going to like me much - but your problem is that you are too lazy to read. If you have read through the Index thread and still can't work it out then leave your phone alone.
EVERYTHING you need is there or available by searching and reading.

In the search tool or find your device first. Then, in every section you have stickies where you can probably find that kind of information
What ROM and how are you flashing it? You shouldn't need to flash the boot.img if you are truly S-Off. Did you get S-Off manually?

Do you have a custom recovery installed? If so, flash SuperSU.zip from somewhere on XDA.

Did you check...? Reboot holding power and volume-down, navigate to "recovery" with volume keys, select it with power key. What does it say? Your Android version is irrelevant.

there is no reason to s-off any htc device. You can flash custom recovery, superuser.zip, roms and customise your phone the way you want with s-on. I would recommend keeping s-on because it prevents you from messing up with your radios, hboot etc.
in simple words a device with s-on will never be hard bricked. You can always recover your htc from its bootloader interface. Thats one of the reasons why i like htc

Yup, you're right. Maybe that's why thewisenerd's device trees have the hboot and bootloader creation parameters as null.
