[Q] How to root Asus tf300t Worldwide version - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I was wondering how to root my Asus tf300t WW (build number JRO03C.WW_epad-10.4.2.13-20120907), Android 4.1.1? All those that I found was on with US type firmware.
Cheers..

I am in the same dilemma, I am using the TW build.
But I decided to unlocked the bootloader first. The APK for ICS works fine for JB.

Ya... Is essentially the same steps as I found. I have manage to unlock. Will try to flash recovery and root later. Wish me luck... :fingers-crossed:
What I have understood so far, the steps are affecting the recovery and install su into the /system partition (no wipe). It does not affect the kernel nor Android itself. So, technically, it should be generic for all build.

Ok, I'm glad for you
But it will be better to explain how you have root your tf300 with this process.
Could you explain for other users.
Thanks

Awsome work again Roach2010. Thank you
That doesn't make sense to me. If its for rooted tf's, it shouldn't matter what rom you are running.
No? I'm no expert though.

It's patches rather than a full rom so it can only be successfully be applied over 8.4.4.11 stock.

Sorry, It upgrades stock 8.4.4.11 to 8.6.5.6 (3.2) and adds/keeps root. It also needs to be flashed with CWM recovery.

That didn't take long... Amazing work Roach, thank you!
Once someone applies this to a stock ROM, can't they remove all the patch files from the zip, copy the files from their 3.2 ROM into the zip, and update the updater-script to remove the patching instructions/replace with copy instructions? That would essentially give us a zip file that could update any version to 3.2, no?
Yeah this didn't work for me...it fails to install and got a message about tegra zone....

didn't work for me either, got error for kindle-oem.apk i removed kindle before and wheni put it back in still getting the same error, pls fix this can't wait to get to 3.2 lol
So this flashes 3.2? If I have Prime 1.6 now, and flash this, I'll have Stock 3.2?

Thanks Roach! Trying this now....Seems to be installing just fine atm.
Any idea when you'll have Prime updated for this? Can't wait for it.
Thanks again! I'd buy you a beer if my kid didn't cost so much.
EDIT: Flashing it in CWM worked just fine....taking a while to boot, but whatever. I'm sure it's all fine....
EDIT2: Just cause I'm wondering, should we be flushing our cache and data and such in CWM before rebooting? Just wondering.....
And just booted into 3.2. Works great!

It's a rite of passage, lol. Serioulsy though, he's right. It clearly states you've got to be on a STOCK Rom. You stated you were on 1.6 Prime, so there was no reason for you to think it would work directly without flashing back to stock. =\
It's meant to be flashed on top of Super's Stock Root Repack ROMs for example

How to root the latest JB

Hi, sorry for noob question, but what is the easiest way to root the latest firmware? I don't want to unlock bootloader.
Downgrade to ICS? Aslo I would like to save my data (game progress etc.).
I read a lot of tuts, but I ever don't know what to do.
You can't downgrade. At this time, the only way is to unlock the bootloader and flash root in.

I have the same question, I have a stock firmware, locked (I guess), updated to the latest version.
Can I use the following guide?

I have modified the part 3 of this guide and you will find here:
Small guide for Install recovery and rooting when you are already to JB
When I'm trying to reboot bootloader - "no device found"
I have installed USB drivers.
Do I have to unlock bootloader?

Sure you can IMO
You can do it on first.
Click to my sig, goto my index for tf300 and you will find the Asus unlock tool
But is it necessary? Can I root without unlocking?
As I said, if you are on JB bootloader, you cannot root without unlock your device...for the moment

In JB i can't root if i'm not unlocked. Is that "forever" or a "just for now" thing? Because ASUS's unlock tool is giving me the error that it can't connect to the server. Should I just ditch my tf300 now?
I have the same issue about this error message and I search how is possible to unlock my tab with different method. Someone have idea?
Thanks

I think it's "just for now" and they're going to develop one tool for JB 4.2. Don't forget that this tool has been built in first for ICS version.

Thanks for your reply. I want it to be the 8013 because that's the US version and it comes with an app I really want. (The KNO textbooks app). It's only available on the US version. I have seen the two rooting methods, but neither explicitly says if I can change the 8010 to US firmware.

so just edit your build.prop, change the stuff from 8010 to 8013 and that will let you install that app. That was what I did to get the 4.2 camera working on this tablet before other librarys were put out to have it working right, switched to make it think it was a nexus.
So make those changes and then install the app, making a backup first of course

That's not what you said in the OP. In the OP, you said you had the 4.2 bootloader and flashed a -JB recovery. The -JB recoveries are for the 4.1 bootloader. Your brick doesn't have as much to do with the T vs. TG mixup as it did with you missing the sticky thread that the warned against flashing -JB recoveries with the 4.2 bootloader.

[Q] I made a newbie mistake, I updated!

Hi All!
I updated my Nexus 5 to 4.4.3 OTA and didn't backup. I didn't think I would loose my root but, it seems I did. The phone is still unlocked but I can't boot into a recovery.
My question is, Can I root the phone again without loosing my data?
Thanks,
J
