Okay guys, I have been searching for a comparison between these 2 stock Roms and can't find anything. I have read that the leak is better, but would like to know if anyone has ran both stock and rooted on their phone? If so, what are the differences? I am running the radio and can't tell much of a difference, if any.
If there is a dev that would care to weigh in with any technical differences, that would be great!

It supposed to help with signal reception on the Galaxy S III and may provide better voice quality. No new features!
Is there anything in the firmware that is different or is it basically a radio? I would assume firmware fixes as well, would just like to clarify from someone that knows and is not assuming like me.

I've ran both and have not really noticed a difference speed wise. I did notice that my GPS is fixed from the G7 radio. G7 I couldn't connect on the brightest, cloud free day standing on top of a hill. Now it finds me instantly (again). The only other thing I did notice ( and this may have been fixed in the G7 build is when you are looking at your phone and you hit favorites, it doesn't swap the favorites and contacts tabs like it used too. Other than that, phone quality seems the same.
Okay, here is what I did. I don't have access to a PC so I downloaded the Odin image of the HD build and flashed it via Mobile Odin. I wiped the caches and everything appeared to be okay. I started restoring everything and then gaps started force closing, then the message app started force closing. I figured wipe caches again and reboot. Same problem. Wiped again and fixed permissions, gaps seemed to be okay for the short time that I ran it but messaging still wouldn't work. Tried again, still no luck. Tried restoring with Titanium, installation failed so I uninstalled, but it wouldn't reinstall the app. I had to revert to a nandroid to get everything back running properly.
I have not had very good luck with Mobile Odin Pro. It could very well be user error, but I have yet to get it to work properly. Also, in addition to the force closes, I could not get a very good signal. I thought this is strange because I am on build 7 running the HD radio and it appears to give me the best signal that I have had so far with this phone.

ran 5 tests on this and last radio. Average was PRECISELY same. I also literally did not move the phone an inch.
Will flashing the new modem in odin trip the counter??? Im still on stock and thinking about flashing the HD radio.
I didn't notice any speed difference but I did notice on HD that I get lte in low reception spots where it would go to 3g so it's great for me.

The HD is a leak. You will not get it ota. If you want to try it, you will have to flash it.

To get the VRLHD modem head on over to this page.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34053-of...zon-sgs3-sch-i535-odin-or-recovery-flashable/
It also contains all the modems available for the phone. There is Odin and CWM flashable formats available.
Flashing via Odin should not trip the flash counter. I really don't know what trips the counter. Mine says 4 but I've done a ton of flashing in the last week.
Just buy a $8 USB JIG to reset the counter or try Triangle Away.
I'm not a dev, only an enthusiast.
I should point out. The HD update is not a ROM is only a modem upgrade.
@OP,
if you did your TB restore settings under all apps and system data that could be why you're having a buggy device. It's best to only restore Apps + data..and not System data with it after an upgrade like this.
As far as performance of the leaked modem goes,I have not noticed any real difference since coming from the G7 Modem. But still it's always good to have the latest..and supposedly..greatest..
Also when using Mobile Odin pro, it's a good idea to acquire the TAR files instead of the ZIP files to do the flashing. Just saying...lol..

Yeah, I knew not to batch restore. I individually restored the apps without the data to attempt to try and avoid any problems with that. Nothing much to restore data wise anyway, I hardly ever play games. My contacts are the biggest deal. I am currently running G7 base with HD modem and it seems very responsive and stable so far. If I don't see any reports of big gains from the HD base, I intend to stay put for awhile.

Quick questions. 1. Just got my Nexsus S Saturday; coming from iPhone 4, and I have managed to root and installed CM 7 build 150 nightly and want to know. Do I have to do a complete wipe every time a new nightly comes out? Or can I just update? I have done the backup of my ROM the very first time and have actually backed up my ROM twice just be safe.
Other question maybe someone knows is, anyone using the Nexsus S on AT&T? Want to know if adjusting the build.prop files to speed up the download and upload speeds works? Reason is my I phone's download up load are much faster than the Nexsus S. Would like to at least match the speeds to my iPhone. Thanks.

Between nightlys you don't have to wipe. If they are changing the kernel (or you're experience other problems) wiping cache and dalvik cache might be necessary (in case of "other problems" fixing permissions in cwm recovery might also help).

I just installed the KD1 radio on my Nexus S and now my upload speed is uncapped. not as good as my iPhone 4, but now I am getting 1.9 - 2.8 download and upload .83-.99.
This is without any mod to the build.prop file. Don't if i should try it.
I might have take back my Nexus S back to Best Buy since I am getting the bug where the find button goes crazy without touching it.

What do you get on your iPhone 4?
You can always add the build.prop very easily. Once you change that file and save it a back up is created automatically.

On my iPhone 4 I normally get from 2.0 - 3.0 and sometimes as much as 3.3 download. Upload is always 1.2 and 1.5 unless I'm at home which is around .80.
Which radio are you using? Also what settings you end up using for the build.prop file? Did you just add them at the end if the file and rebooted twice? Will test out once I see what settings you used and radio.
I'm having a really bad issue with the search key going off in its own. Now it does more since i changed over the KD1 radio.

does anyone know if flashing the leaked ics update will remove clock work mod recovery from my phone? i just flashed it and made a back up of my stock gb rom but i want to be able to flash back to gb if i dont like the leaked ics rom.
Either way you can flash it through Odin in case you lose it after flashing ics. I did flash ics but I can't recall whether it removed cwm recovery or not

You can also just backup your Nandroid backup you made with CWM to a PC, so you can use it later.

There is no best, it's personal preference. Look through the DEV section and browse the roms. You need to read and then try some and see which works best for your needs

Things I've learned today that you all may or may not know. If you are having any lag issues with this ics update this worked for me. And you must be rooted. First freeze or remove any unused apps att bloatware etc etc. For a list of the ones its safe to remove or freeze search the dev forum. Since my phone is still under warranty for now I just chose to freeze those apps but if you are out of warranty you may just want to remove them which you can do with titanium backup. Now I don't know why but this second thing really made my phone a lot faster. Install apex launcher like I said I don't know why but it did. So try it it just might work for you. Now if I could just figure out the battery drain issue I would be ok. Any ideas on fixes or tweeks for extending battery life on ics???

better battery stats will help u figure out whats draining your battery. Also, i don't know where this "warranty" idea u have came from, but u voided it the second u flashed that ics leak, which hasn't actually been released yet. Also, if u did use the oneclick ics, i high recommend u flash a different ics custombrom through cwm, stock is too buggy. Superlite 5, team perfection, and ics - the real thing are all good choices
Well from what I was told if it didn't trip the flash counter they could not tell if it had been flashed and the flash counter when I got done with everything flashing the update flashing cwm and rooting when done the flash counter said none. It only moves if you flash a custom rom from what I read and been told by others on here. I will try the battery stats app to see what is draining my battery it might just be ics is more battery demanding than gingerbread???? Oh and the third I done to speed up my phone that I left out of my last post was get rid of any and all task killers task managers. My phone is way faster after those three tweaks.. if I'm wrong about the warranty let me know thanks for the advice on battery stats headed to download now....

You don't wanna get rid of the stock task manager, if that's what you did. What exactly do you think you just did? You flashed cwm with odin, you flashed a rom, you flashed a kernel, and you flashed a radio. All custom and not official=warranty void. You can get away with this by flashing the sammobile tar and unrooting, but as of now your warranty, well, you don't have one. I would also advise you read more before you go flashing, deleting and freezing anything else. This is how bricks happen.

Okay, I read on here every day on my cell and can't find the answer to my question. I, like alot of people have a stock, rooted, unlocked phone and want to update to the latest OTA. I would like to, if possible, do this without Odin.
I was wondering if they're was a file like Scott's stock Rom that could be dirty flashed over stock without any problems? If there is no other way, I plan on using Odin to get back to stock after I relock the bootloader, take the update, and then reroot, unlock, etc.
The big reason that I would rather do it without the computer is that I am on the road 90% of the time and don't have access to a computer. I depend on my phone for GPS as well as entertainment, so being without my phone isn't an option for me. Are there any options?

I am the same way and would like to do it without going completely back to locked/un-rooted/stock. I was able to find a ROM that Scott just updated with the new VRALG7 from verizon here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892670

What I ended up doing was a full wipe and flashed CleanROM 2.5, which is based on the new VRLG7 updates. Then I flashed the new VRLG7 radio form here:

Can I ask why you guys want the update anyway? I'm also on stock/rooted/unlocked and all I did was freeze the apps called 'sdm' and 'fwupgrade' and there's no chance for it to update to the OTA. I hear all it has is dumbed down search and a Verizon remote-help sort of thing.
It blocks a security issue and is different framework from what I understand. I would lock the bootloader, unroot, OTA, and then redo everything but will not be around a computer until tomorrow at the best.

After reading the posts on Scott's CleanROM 2.5, that's what I am going to do this weekend. I will feel a lot better knowing I received the most up-to-date software from Samsung as the framework and then customize my phone the way I want. Plus, that's what a lot of the more experienced posters have been recommending, and for a noob like me, it would be dumb for me to not take their advice.
Thanks for getting back to me about the cache wiping question!

Hi a week ago from today i got the ATT USA samsung galaxy s3. I rooted it last weekend and yesterday i wanted to be able to use the volume button as a shutter button. I searched this up and found this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844374 im pretty sure i did it wrong because i didn't read the entire post and couldn't find exactly how to. I'm new to all of the android stuff (i previously has an iphone). So idk about the ROMs and other terminology. Bassically what i did was downloaded the zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844374 to my phone. I then turned it off, held the power button, home and volume up. i hit install from zip and installed the file from that link. Idk if i was supposed to or not. Now i cannot use camera. Everytime i click camera nothing happens and it just pops up with "unfotunatly camera has stopped." It also made it say "android upgrading applications started" everytime it turns on. I need to know what to do next please and make it simple if possible. Thanks in advance.

It says android version 4.0.4
Damn, we'll it looks liked you tried to flash a jellybean camera on ice cream sandwich. Try searching the at&t Samsung galaxy s3 forum for a camera app and try installing that over what you got. I got to wake up for work in 5 hours otherwise I'd try to find it for you.
Worse case scenario go to the forum I said above and find the ariel rom and flash that.
All you would do is download the rom which will be a .zip file. You go into the recovery like you did before.
***Make a backup first by going to backup/restore and clicking backup.*** Once that's done you format data format cache go into mount and click format /system then go to advanced and format dalvik cache and then go to install update and select the ariel. Zip you downloaded. Ariel is a very stable ics rom. I used it for months. It's basically the same thing as the stock att gs3 but without the bullcrap bloat.

I searched for the camera and couldn't quiet find it, or know exactly what to look for. Would it be possible for me to just upgrade to jellybean now before i do anything else or what and if so how
I mean... It's a possibility you could do the ota update of jellybean (the normal att update) I personally would be afraid to try since you're rooted and have change system files by flashing that... Idk I wish someone else would jump in and and would confirm or deny that because I'm not 100% sure.
Personally I would just flash a custom rom anyway. I'm running the customized "stock" jb rom someone posted in the forum. It's running great and you can flash stuff like the one you originally tried without issue.

I personally would. I'd flash either the ariel rom which is ice cream sandwich. It's very stable with great battery life. Or the new jelly bean rom by enewman17
I've been using that one since last night and it's been running great so far. I was at work all day and I'm at 82% battery life with like 9 hours being on. If you have a microsd card in your phone you should put your data (pictures, music, etc.) on it anyway but you will basically lose all the apps and stuff. So put any data you want to save on your sd and use the instructions I said before to flash properly.

alright well i don't have an external sd-card but ill probably get one soon. I'll save those instructions and do it later so i dont have to worry about losing my apps and having to redownload them. Thanks for all of you help
Don't worry about losing your apps. Your Google account will always save them. And the instructions are the same no matter what rom your flashing. So don't worry. You'll pick it up quick
If you need help just let me know.

Still running the stock 4.4.4 Rom that is rooted. I am s-off already. Finally going to pull the trigger and upgrade my firmware tomorrow and switch roms. I am pretty firmly decided on Cleanrom but wondering if there are any perks of one version over the other? Obviously 4.4.4 vs 5.0.1, but meant more day to day usage. Like battery life, usability, etc.

OK, so I went with 4.0 and for the most part it has been flawless. The only issue I am having is occasionally when in hangouts and I try to bring up the keyboard it exits the conversation and goes back to the selection pane. A hot restart fixes it, but was wondering if there was a permanent solution. I had taken the webview update so uninstalled and dirty flashed 4.0 that in case it was the cause.

The webview thing shouldn't be a problem anymore. It's been fixed. As far as cleanrom 3.0 vs 4.0 goes, I'm seriously considering going back to 3.0. Lollipop is a turd in my opinion. I've been on it since before Cleanrom 4 was released. I've run stock lollipop, Cleanrom and Adrenaline. Since I ran stock for a while and it had the same problems, I know it's not due to the roms. My biggest issues with lollipop is the battery use and handoff issues from 3G to 4G and vise versa. I can live with the battery thing but I've about reached the end of my rope with the handoff issues. I'm constantly having to toggle airplane mode to get data to work. It shows it's connected but any app that uses data will complain about no data connection. Yet, messaging continues to work fine. I had this issue every once in a great while on kit kat but the times were few and far between. Like once a week or once in 2 weeks instead of a dozen or more times a day on lollipop. It gets old. Too late for you now though. Run it a while and see what you think. Maybe you won't have that problem or the battery draining issues. Time will tell.

I probably should add that I've never had the keyboard issue. I've seen others that have (not sure if it was on this rom though). Since I don't see it, I would have to assume it's some app or setting or some such thing that I don't have. I'm not using the stock keyboard. I use Swiftkey but I don't know if that would make a difference or not.
Thanks for the reply. Using the stock keyboard so far. Never really liked Swype but might give it another try.
BTW, I thought I had read going back to 3.0 was okay even though it's KitKat. That not the case?

I've tried both Cleanrom 3.0 and 4.0 as daily drivers.
Lollipop is not at all battery-friendly.
Have my M8 back on 3.0 setup the way I like and battery life is GREAT again.
I can easily live without "new and improved" thanks to scrosler's great rom work on 3.0....
Be sure to save an xlnt nandroid in case you want to go back to it after trying Lollipop.
I have a nandroid of the stock rooted rom. Can I just restore that and boot it up? Then go back into recovery and flash 3.0? Or do I need to change hboot and run an ruu in order to go back?

You could put in the newest firmware: VZWm8Lfirmware.zip, then put in the newest TWRP for M8, then install Cleanrom 3.
Thanks. I actually updated the firmware, then ran that for a few days. Then took a nandroid, did a factory reset and then installed 4.0. So I should be able to just woke it again and restore?

Yes, that ought to work. After a stop at Play Store to update a bunch of things, it should be what you had before.
Thanks. I thought I had seen somewhere that if you wanted to go back you had to flash the older ruu then go to a rom. Good to know.
Might try a clean flash of 4.0 first and then freeze webview to test. ROM was fine for the first week so not sure if an update caused the issue.

I tried all the lollipop roms and I am back on 4.4.4. I think lollipop roms suffer from the start. The stock software base has been known for overheating and memory leaks. I have seen allot of developers try to just fix the base. Do their best and just find no reason to work on it.
