More Ram Being Used. How much Ram is your infinity using. - Asus Transformer TF700

I installed the JB update without factory resetting my infinity. Im running everything stock but I noticed my ram is using a little over 700mbs and leaving me around 150mbs free. Just wanted to see if this is the norm. Can you guys post ram usage and can you state if you did a factory reset or not. Really trying not to factory reset but if doing so will lower my ram usage then I will. My tab is running smoother but still kinda jerky once in a while so maybe this is the culprit.

565MB in use, 405BMb free.
Running: Settings, PlayerPro, Transformer Services, NvCPL Service, com.asus.keyboard, Clock, Hacker's Keyboard, Fresh Leaves LWP.
No factory reset, no root, not unlocked. Turned off all bloatware, though. that's probably what's eating your RAM.

Android & Windows utilize RAM differently. While you want to keep more free in Windows, free RAM matters much less in Android. The OS intentionally loads up apps & consumes occupies RAM. I can dig up some technical articles explaining this id you don't want to believe me.

The transformer series (or atleast the tf700) seems to handle it differently, plenty of games will crash unless you free up RAM.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T

that was in ics wasnt it? due to a nvidia driver bug or something. I use to crash in plants vs zombies after a few minutes in ics, but now it works fine in jb

Just did a hard reset to have a clean boot and my Infinity is using 640mb.

Is there a option to turn off bloatware or I just go to apps and turn off each stick app I think I don't use?
I know everyone is diffrent but which apps did you stop?
Thanks

You have to go into Apps and disable each one you won't use, independently...
Some apps won't disable until you go back to factory. So uninstall any updates, to that particular app.

Thanks xRev gonna try that when I get home.

I noticed with ICS that if my RAM got below 200MB, things would get wonky. I would consistently see hangs in the browser and severe lag on most apps below this threshold. I was using Startup Cleaner on boot and activated the setting to limit to 2 background process at most. This kept my ICS RAM around 300MB and above and things were relatively smooth.
Now with JB, it gets down to around 200MB on a fresh boot. Even with limit background processes to 2 it struggles to get above 300MB. I can see when I launch a Flash and java script heavy web page the whole thing just stalls for several seconds. On some pages I can see the RAM going down below 100MB and this is when the browser will just crash. I am using the Cool Tool RAM monitor to see usage real time.
I have not disabled any apps yet, and that may be the difference. Doing a TB backup now to factory reset and see if I can clean this up. However, ICS or JB, things run smoother when the RAM is at 300MB or above! It does seem like JB is more RAM hungry and this could be an issue.

Just did factory reset and its much smoother and ram is using 580ish and 380ish free.
Factory Rest is a must.

I was just wondering about the RAM usage, as I have noticed that with the same applications installed, I had about 400-500MB free on average on ICS, and now I'm at 200-300 on Jellybean.
Also, seems to eat up more and more RAM as time goes on, only fixed by restarting the tablet.
I use SystemPanel Lite as a task manager and even that couldn't free up much RAM.

I notice 150 - 200MB increase of RAM consumption after the JB update (last value 680). And I use Android Assistant to kill the unwanted apps..

Guys just factory reset. I know it sucks having to install everything again but it levels out. Runs smoother and more ram free. I know have like 400mbs free and Im running alot more widgets. Its good

I did do a factory reset. Right after I updated to Jelly Bean.
I rebuilt my homescreen to how it was back in ICS, and configured my widgets. From a fresh boot I have around 450MB free memory, over the course of half an hour it drops to around 250MB (and this is with constantly killing all applications too). Seems to stabilize at around 250MB.
In general, it just seems that JB uses more memory than ICS. Hope they address this in a follow-up OTA update or something.

Don't worry about the RAM usage - Android handles it for you - especially with Jelly Bean. Really, there is no need to even worry about it. There was a *bad* bug in ICS with OpenGL "out of memory" issues, but that bug has been resolved in JB and everything runs smoothly now.
It may even be all of the monitoring software you are using to check for "low RAM" that is causing your performance issues!
You actually *want* Jelly Bean to use all of the RAM - that's why it's there! It will cache all sorts of things and then free up some of the cache memory as it needs it for other things.
Just like the old saying goes - if it aint broke, don't fix it!

Using Asus app backup I just backed up to the external card prior to the JB update.
All my apps and data showed up.
I have always regularly moved my pics, vids and stuff we don't want to lose onto a PC too for safe keeping.

Game crashes

What games did you have problems with?
I had weird flickering in Six-Guns which I was not able to play at all and now in Siegecraft THD Lite (= demo) which just crashes after hitting play (or play / next)
Some others crashed randomly, but not so much that it would be worth mentioning with all the problems with T3 / TF700...
Update: I've found out that a reboot actually might help when experiencing problems with games (not sure why yet).
Update: After excluding some lines from build.prop and rebooting the device Siegecraft works. Will have to find out what influences the games in general.
It seems that switching off these two in my build.prop file helped with Six-Guns too!
# debug.sf.hw=1
# persist.sys.ui.hw=1
Montezuma 3 starts flickering now and then for no reason, only way to stop it is to kill the game with a task manager and restart it. No other issues found so far with games or apps. Don't have Siegecraft though.
I have issues with Grabatron on my Bionic, a game that I really enjoy. Anyone want to test that one for me? I'd love to play it on the Infinity when I pick it up.

I've had problem with most THD and 3D-games, heavy flickering and constant crashes. Its better after the latest update though, games still crash but not as often.
Seemed to be memory related as my log showed this error with every crash:
D/NvOsDebugPrintf( 5793): NvRmChannelSubmit failed (err = 196623, SyncPointValue = 1319148)

I had flickering effect in a few games, but after build.prop changes, two of which I've excluded lately. Apart from that, I think that data wipe + flashing TW firmware helped me with a lot of these issues, might be worth a try (you could use MyBackup and store it on external storage manually)
After a bit more testing the crashes are as bad as before and heavier games are as good as unplayable because of this. Anyone else having the same log error as I described above? This is really starting to piss me off...
@d14b0ll0s Might try the build.prop changes you suggested but a data wipe only seems to temporary delay the problem. Might be a memory leak somewhere or in the worst case scenario its defective RAM.

If you hadn't done any build.prop tweaks before, you don't need to exclude these lines, as they are not there.
It may be just system memory settings. Are you rooted?

Thanks for the info...my phone won't load it whatsoever. I'm wondering the issue is...it loads the first time, but if I try it again, it will turn the screen landscape and then go back to portrait. Glad to know I can try it out on the Infinity when I get it.
Can it be the openGL driver? Sounds like the problem i have with Sygic navigation. Screen goes black on heavy 3d zooming.

You are not on Power Saving mode, are you?
Power Saving mode saves battery but makes whole process stutter especially opening application you can see frames stutter and wish you had Buttery smooth Jelly bean there. But on balanced mode, I don't notice any and not sure if Jelly bean would do anything there... as it is already so smooth.
But as far as browser, if you have many applications running behind that may cause keyboard input delay. If not, recommend Cold reboot.

I have the same problem as you as well as others. I'm on the updated firmware and am incredibly disappointed. I've been supporting Android since it was first released and absolutely love my Nexus phone. I've had a few Android tabs and they have all been lacking. I finally did something I swore that I would never do and used an iPad. I really didn't like it except that it operated so smooth and didn't crash. I ran out and bought this tab as I hoped it would work better so I could ditch the iPad. Unfortunately, my infinity lags when loading pages and Gmail, crashes when watching movies and Gmail, and refuses to open desktop version of websites. I am going to wipe and reload one more time and if it doesn't work, I will have to send it back. I really really want this tab to work.

Huh, after updating I thought this was the only non_lag android tablet I've used besides the Nexus 7 which is even faster. I've also not had force closes and the Primes browsing was ruined by that. Of course it has other issues because that's how Asus rolls.

no. mine came with .21 and i wasn't getting .26 OTA. you download it from the ASUS site, unzip it and put the resultant zip on the root of an sdcard. slot the sdcard in and you'll get an item in notification that there's an update available. bam.
search the forum for detailed instructions.
THAT SAID - although .26 is MUCH better than .21 IME, i still have performance issues with the 700. not so much that it's sluggish - but that the digitizer just stops accepting input periodically. it's definitely a software problem and it's definitely frustrating. haven't sussed out any culprits yet.

Games started to flicker...

Hey guys,
I guess my infinity has a serious problem. Today I was playing TW Battles suddenly screen started to flicker.I was able to touch the screen and give commands but screen didnt change. Then i tried Dead Trigger,it happened again. I shut it down and opened then played for a while (like one hour) it started to flicker again. After that I cleared all tasks from Asus Task Manager except the game, I was able to play then.Anyone has the same issue? Can it be repaired by firmware update or is it a hardware issue? Any advice to solve?
By the way my infinity is unrooted and C70 serie.

This is a known issue. It originates from the NVIDIA driver. It is rumoured to be fixed in the upcoming JellyBean update.
For now have a look at this workaround: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31177808&postcount=8
So, the only solution is clearing the ram before starting a game?
Is there a app that keeps the free ram at the same level?

That is a really good question. If an app could just clear out all apps, like advanced task manager, and then free up all the ram, that could be used before running a game in the meantime. Does something like that exist?

There are many memory cleaners, I use this workaround: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...08&postcount=8.
Cleaners cannot "reconstruct" fragmented memory, only a reboot will do that. The real solution would be for ASUS to update the (already fixed) nvidia driver(s) to fix the NvRmChannelSubmit failed errors.

slow - especially browsing

Ever since the last update, my TF300 is slow, especially browsing. I've cleared caches and even did a factory reset. Not much better. Any ideas?
I would suggest a custom rom and kernel if things are to slow for you. Not sure what else to say since you don't say which version of android your on etc. A lot more info will help someone help you. Also read around the TF300 forums plenty of guides and answers to most questions and there are tons of people working on making our tablets faster.
I use CROM-X 4.4.1 upgrading to 4.5 and Hundsbuah's Kernel which make the tablet 50-60% faster then stock IMO.

funny this is asked because certain devices behave differently when rebooting. with idevices I found that rebooting does fix glitches more than say an android device, because mainly there arent many free mem apps for a jailbroken iDevice, whereas android natively lets you free mem within it's OS. Ive always felt its like flushing a toilet and cant hurt! lol!
You don't have to unless there's a Problem.
